Just looking at the league table now and the table from 2014 when Moyes was in charge. Looking back that has been labelled as our worst season since Fergie left but although we finished 7th we only won 19 games that season (50%) and finished on 64 goals scored and 64 points. We currently sit on 17 wins and 62 points with 63 goals scored. Yes we may qualify for CL next season but we still have so much work to do to challenge for the PL and CL. Luckily for us those around us have not performed as well otherwise we would have missed out on CL again.
I really hope we don't fudge this up and we get CL and build from there.

Once upon a time you needed to reach the magical 40 point mark in order to avoid relegation.

I think West Brom were the first team to survive relegation with less than 40 points with 39 back in the mid 00's.

Unless Brighton and West Ham win all of their remaining games this season then as many as THREE teams will avoid relegation with less than 40 points.

I'm not sure how helpful looking back at past seasons are at judging a current seasons performance. Certainly not beyond last season.

The league changes every season, new teams come in, some teams improve others go backwards.
