Hi ed, with regards to ronaldo and his little outburst would there be any serious takers for him in January? Or does he need to take a pay cut for anything to happen? It has been said previously that Joel had the final say on the situation and that's why he didn't move on in the summer, has his stance changed? i'd hope so after Ronaldos latest antics. Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - He would need to take a paycut regardless. His agent has been looking for options since last summer - as has been previously explained.}

In these circumstances where there is really no good option for either club or player, and there's been a total breakdown in the relationship, would it be conceivable for United to simply let him walk away from his contract, perhaps as long as he does it before the World Cup so the club is not on the hook for paying him for the next 6 weeks? Would the club be prepared to write off the unamortized part of his signing fee?

CR37 is not going to walk away from his contract because of the money he is on, it will take the club paying him off in a mutual termination of his contract.

I think it'll be similar sort of situation to Bastian Schweinsteiger in 2017 when he left the club and was paid off, could be wrong on that but think his contract was paid off.

Zero clue about football contracts and legalities surrounding them but is there any ground for Utd to be able to terminate contract due to his interview without the need of financial compensation? Might suit all parties?

{Ed002's Note - Of course not.}

Hi Ed002,

As I get the feeling that you are legally qualified, woukd United have any grounds to terminate Ronsldo’s contract because of what he’s said in the interview?

Daily Mail are suggesting “ material breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence as well as express terms regarding bringing club into disrepute. '

But they usually speak a load of gollocks.

What’s your learned opinion please, if you’re able to offer one?

Thanks as always for any response!

{Ed002's Note - They could spend a very long time in court trying to do that if there is no mutual agreement to do so and they would have to continue paying him. The best option would be to allow him to leave in January to join another side - if one could be found. Next up would be to pay up the remaining £12M or whatever it is and let him move on in January.}

Brilliants, thank Ed002, your info very much appreciated as always.

Let’s hope he’s got somewhere lined up for January….

{Ed002's Note - As I said, there are options already.}

Last year there was lots of negativity swirling around the club, it was constant and things kept getting worse.

This needs handling fast and with minimum of fuss by United now. Just make arrangements with his Agent for him to depart, thank him for his years at Old Trafford and move on.

United need to stay away from keeping this headline going on and on, deal with it whilst the World Cup is running which is going to be the bigger story and let this become chip paper. In

Is Chelsea one of those clubs trying to sign him Ed
?

{Ed002's Note - Many clubs have been approached but nobody will be trying to sign him until they understand the situation the amateurs face and what they want to do.}

Thanks Ed ?, I feel Erik Ten Hag didn't want Ronaldo but it was imposed to him by the owners, too bad to see Ronaldo leaving like this but I don't think he is being fair to Ten Hag with his comments, let's hope the club finds a solution asap as this distraction needs to end soon.

{Ed002's Note - It will be complicated by money but I suspect a way out in January.}

Surely the club will not consider paying out the remainder of his contract. He's messed up royally here but I do think it's best to grant him a free transfer, as I think would have been considered regardless of the interview. In any other industry he'd be done for gross misconduct as he was already given a warning for refusing to play for the manager and now he has made public statements against the club. However bigger picture is that to attract players in future the club needs to give an exit ramp here to Ronaldo that allows him to save face somewhat. All in all CR7 has done himself a lot of damage with this, and given his refusal to accept an impact role I think he'll find it very difficult to get a club that matches his CL ambitions.

Ed,

Would you have any idea just how much say (if any) Ole had in the Ronaldo signing?

{Ed002's Note - He was part of the decision process.}
