Ed,

Any truth in rumours regarding us looking to sign Houssem Aouar this summer.

bilko!

{Ed002's Note - None.}

Ed,

I saw a rumour about us being interested in Ismael Bennacer of Milan, do you know if there is anything to this?

bilko!

{Ed002's Note - Ismael Bennacer (DM/CM) Scouts from Manchester City, Napoli and Manchester United watched the player although interest of Manchester City has gone with a different player signing. And with Labotka extending his contract Napoli no longer need to add another DM player. With Bakayoko departing his loan early Milan are trying to persuade the player to extend his contract. For Manchester United he would be a potential Matic replacement but not at the top of the list.}

1.) 18 Jul 2022 14:01:19
Thanks Ed.

2.) 18 Jul 2022 14:20:19
Are you able to share who IS at the top of the list for Matic’s replacement please, ed002?

Of all of the midfield names we’ve been linked with, they all seem Pogba replacements, rather than Matic.

{Ed002's Note - Done to death.}

3.) 18 Jul 2022 15:01:17
Wonder if United don’t get FDJ, they might try their luck for Declan Rice?!

Though perhaps he might be more of a target next year….

4.) 19 Jul 2022 07:53:31
Would hazard a guess we don’t have the money for Rice that West Ham would want.

5.) 20 Jul 2022 00:04:05
Rice isn't for sale, the interested clubs will revisit next year but considering he's under contract to 2025 he still is not going to be cheap.

Rice should be the player to build a team around, the leader, the Captain
For the next ten years.

Ed,

Anything in rumours of United trying to sign Sven Botman?

bilko!

{Ed002's Note - They have spoken with his agent but another club are in discussions with Lille, but has no agreement.}

1.) 18 May 2022 12:19:36
Thanks Ed.

2.) 18 May 2022 13:33:16
Ed002 is the other club ac Milan?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

3.) 18 May 2022 15:22:23
Wouldn't his lack of pace be an issue?

4.) 18 May 2022 18:12:15
Mad Hatter, that depends. Maldini was never quick, but was still the best defender of his generation.

Pace is always an advantage, but if you can read the game well and have the defence work well as a unit you can be a a top class defender without being quick.

That said Botman has excelled at Lille who tend to play with a fairly deep defensive line. While he wasn't really given much of a chance at Ajax under EtH who play with a high line.

So while we know he is an excellent defender in a deep sitting the, we have no idea how well he performs in a high line. For that reason I think he would be a risk.

All signings are a gamble, you never know if the player will take to the team, the style of play, the country or culture etc. Yet personally I think the best signings are when a club buy a player from a club that plays a similar style of football. It means you have seen exactly how that player can perform in that sort of set up.

5.) 18 May 2022 20:34:37
Fair points Shappy.

Who would you like to see signed this summer?

Fair points Shappy.

Who would you like to see signed this summer?

7.) 19 May 2022 06:39:18
He’s basically a left footed Maguire. Good when allowed to play deep and come onto the ball, but has the turning circle of an artic when balls are played in behind him. Avoid.

Eds,

See talk that we tried to get Corentin Tolisso from Byaern on loan in January, but due to an injury crisis they would'nt let him go .

Any truth in this and are the club interested in follwing up with an offer in the summer?

bilko!

{Ed002's Note - Corentin Tolisso (CM) An apt time to ask. Bayern Munich have made the player available for sale as they look to a shake up of the team and want to clear some out in the summer - and with Gretzka, Thiago and the up and coming Cuisance all playing in the same central midfield position, Tolisso is seen as surplus. Tolisso also had a serious injury issue last season but apparently all is well now - aside from niggling stuff. His representatives fielded several requests for loans from France and England in January but, like the agents of Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, he knew Bayern Munich would not be doing any business over the winter. There has been a discussion with one specific French side about the possibility of a summer move and the lady involved they may just be interested if a suitable price was proposed given the injury history. There has also been a discussion with Napoli as a potential Fabian Ruiz replacement - but they are still sorting themselves out from their problems and have no immediate interest. If the price suits it is expected Arsenal will be approached to see if previous interest remains given the situation with Dani Ceballos - but right now they are heading in a different direction as well. A return to Lyon will no doubt have been discussed with the player but even if they let Houssem Aouar leave this coming summer the addition of the vesatile Bruno Guimaraes will already have covered that.}

1.) 13 Feb 2020 10:45:31
Thanks for that Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

Inaki Williams may just be the final straw for this particular transfer window.

Has Rooney packed in his job with DC United or does he just do it part time in between his running commentary on all things United?

bilko!

1.) 19 Jul 2023 21:57:16
What do you think bilko!? Rooney was interviewed. Rooney answered said interviewers’ questions. Odd question really.

2.) 19 Jul 2023 22:33:30
I'm with bilko, he has a lot to say about a lot of subjects. Each to their own but heading thousands of miles away from your large young family also strikes me as odd. For some reason he is seek as some. kind of guru, he has a column the Sunday Times, not sure when he became such an amazing expert.

3.) 20 Jul 2023 05:00:14
Like Fabrizio Romano? Why are we so keen to slam our ex players for having opinions yet we will drink up the clap trap served to us week in week out by keyboard plagiarists?

Anybody can associate every player with every club and say "may" or "could" after stating the bleedin obvious again and again and calling is an exclusive! Grrrrrrrr!

At least Rooney is relatively recent and hey, our best ever goal scorer so may well have some relevance.

4.) 20 Jul 2023 05:32:15
If Ten Hag was being interviewed and was asked for his opinions about Ajax and what players they should sell or sign or what the Ajax manager should be doing, what do you think he would say?

5.) 20 Jul 2023 08:15:12
He would say none of my business Bilko wouldn’t he.

6.) 20 Jul 2023 09:00:38
Whatever he wanted.

7.) 20 Jul 2023 10:54:48
Oh look, Rio Ferdinand, Juan Mata, Patrice Evra and Peter Schmeichel among others, appear to have had a say. Up against the wall the lot of em.

8.) 20 Jul 2023 11:35:27
Are they currently managing a club?

9.) 20 Jul 2023 11:51:38
No. But as far as I’m aware he wasn’t who the club should sell. He was asked what particular players should do given their situation and he responded by suggesting they move on to resurrect their career. Quite different and I see no issue.

10.) 20 Jul 2023 12:00:11
Its his opinion similar to a lot of yours. Most times nobody asks ours and yet we put them here isn't it? Have better things to discuss, do them.

11.) 20 Jul 2023 13:07:17
I think if he managed a European team, he maybe wouldn't comment so much. Let's face it, the MLS is pretty irrelevant to Utd. It's not like we'll be in direct competition or trading players, so I don't see the harm.

From a selfish point of view i'm not exactly unhappy to see Denmark going out if it means Eriksen gets a few weeks rest before the season resumes.

18 Nov 2022 13:39:59
Anyone get the feeling that some of the stuff Ronaldo was spouting in that interview was coming from Fergie?
e. g. the stuff about Ole not getting enough time, i mean it has to be pretty clear that Fergie recommended Ole getting the managers job ( who else would have ) , and he also played a part in bringing his golden child Ronaldo back to the club.

bilko!

1.) 18 Nov 2022 14:51:30
No, I think he just liked Ole because he was a soft touch.

2.) 18 Nov 2022 18:39:19
Hubris is Ronaldo's greatest flaw here. He's doing this interview like he's 27 not 37. The fact he's attacking everyone who has merely questioned his conduct and performances shows he's living in denial. Keane, Ole, Fergie. All have been on his side. Rooney, Neville Ten Hag have questioned him.

He must have known joining United he wasn't going to win anything of note but instead of taking a pay cut and joining a team with potential to win, he took the money to join United. I'm a huge Ronaldo fan but he needs to come to terms that his career is now on the steep slope to retirement. His performances this season have been quite poor and I'm sure he's hoping on a decent world cup to secure a new team.

I was delighted when he came back and I'm not one bit unhappy he's leaving. He should head off to the states and enjoy semi retirement and just retire fully after the world cup but I think he'll slowly go down kicking and screaming until his legacy is slightly tarnished.

3.) 18 Nov 2022 20:00:09
Mumbles, ????.

4.) 18 Nov 2022 23:42:33
Mumbles that's a really good post.

5.) 19 Nov 2022 00:10:28
Eric is the King again.

22 Aug 2022 12:07:11
Fair dues to Wayne Rooney, not many people could manage a football club while also being a full time commentator on all things Manchester United.

bilko!

1.) 22 Aug 2022 12:26:54
Between him an Geville they don't leave much unturned!
I like the passion of both, could probably do with Neville being more involved with the club as he probably personifies pretty much everything the typical fan believes in. Just don't let him kick a ball or manage it in any form!

2.) 22 Aug 2022 12:54:28
Although I agree with much these x-players are saying I don’t believe they should necessarily be ’involved’ in the running of the club.

They are great at highlighting issues as followers and the rest of the media will take note. However we need special-ists in roles for running the club not mates of the Glazers or ex-players. We have been down the sentimental road and that hasn’t worked, also Arnold and Murtough should be replaced by people who know how to run a football club.

3.) 22 Aug 2022 13:08:50
I’d give g nev some credit he’s also a successful businessman!

4.) 22 Aug 2022 13:54:16
I know, what's Rooney thinking of having a job AND an opinion on what goes on at Old Trafford!? Wouldn't catch any of us doing that.

5.) 22 Aug 2022 14:18:19
Are any of us the manager of another football club telling the manager of Manchester United who he should be playing? . and given DC United's current form, if i was the owner i'd be telling him to concentrate on his day job.

6.) 22 Aug 2022 15:24:51
Funny how Neville wasn’t complaining about the Glazers when they were paying him tens of thousand pounds a week. Just crying because you’re not top dogs anymore.

7.) 22 Aug 2022 15:27:08
Old players should shut up unless they have something constructive to say. That includes old managers and SAF in particular.

8.) 22 Aug 2022 17:15:32
Redal spouting nonsense since 2022.

9.) 22 Aug 2022 17:28:10
Rooney's got good points though.

10.) 22 Aug 2022 18:29:28
Everything they both say is bang on! People on here are allowed to spout nonsense and they supposedly care about the club, and when two ex footballers who know a damn lot more than us lot do start speaking their told to button it because it goes against what some snowflakes think!

11.) 22 Aug 2022 18:54:49
Very well said Chris.
I'd happily shed some of our supporters before the owners.

Souness on Casameiro . "He was playing with great players, he’s not a great player. He’s never been a great player. I see him as a steady Eddie who will help Manchester United be more solid in midfield.

“I don’t think he’s got any great range in passing. I don’t think he’s going to make other people play. The Real Madrid team, midfield especially, is full of footballing types. He’s 30-years-old, and at £70 million, that’s too much money.

“I don’t see him making then any better when they have the ball. ”

Carragher about Martinez . He looks a little too short to play centre-back in the Premier League. We saw when United struggled badly against Brentford – a game where Martínez was subbed at half-time – how difficult it is for him if sides hit long balls into the penalty area to a striker relishing such service like Ivan Toney.

These people are clowns, i bet Merson had never even heard of Sabitzer before today and now he's passing judgement on him.

Would you have any idea just how much say (if any) Ole had in the Ronaldo signing?

The problem with AWB is that we apparently scouted every right back in football and then decided to pay 50 million for one who's not great going forward and not great positionally from a defensive point of view but does have a good recovery tackle.

If Ferguson has good advisers, they'll hopefully be telling him to stay where he is for another season . He's with a good club who play good football and will be in Europe . He's doing well with them and getting plenty of game time .

Red Man,

It was a cheapo loan with no option to buy in the January window, it's not like he had the option of Vlaohic, Osimhen and Weghorst and chose Weghorst.

Fact is, he got us into a great position and was let down by the leeches when he needed to strengthen up front.
