The team played like they didn't believe in what they were asked to do. I think it comes down to starting with 10 players. It looks clear the players do not rate Weghorst, the Burnley reject, who had was it 11 touches. It looks like the team can't give it to feet, put it in behind, or even on his head. 11 touches says they don't trust him. Oh he runs does he, so do I when the bar opens.

The players see the manager giving him starts and praise. It looks to me as I said on Live chat and in Match posts that the players are deflated by the standard of Weghorst and frustrated the manager continues with this selection. If Weghorst continues to start I think they will not have confidence in the team and it will contribute to lesser performances. It looks like a Dutch love in, I suspect some think that too and it has to stop. Right now.

ETH talked about United not having average players, then plays this below average Burnley reject, who, can't hold, run or head. One of the worst players at United in years.

ETH has to deal with this or his own credibility could suffer.

Red Man,

Weghorst is poor. But what options has he had? Martial only fit yesterday. Rashford much better from the left and Garnacho isn’t ready to play every single game and was hurt for yesterdays.

We can’t forget that we were scraping the bargain bucket for a signing given the fact we had no money due to how the club is being run.

Yesterday ten hag got lots wrong, the second goal is completely on him. His subs were baffling, but he was trying to change the flow of the game. Squad depth still isn’t there, but I trust him implicitly to get us right over the coming years.

I agree that Weghorst should be dropped immediately but I don't think the other players see it like that. There isn't really anyone being benched for him currently so the mood wouldn't be affected in that way.

When he joined we were winning games. The stats and optics pointed to us winning when he played. Now the goals from other areas have dried up its glaringly obvious he's a waste of a starting position.

If Martial stays fit then Weghorst goes to the bench. If he gets injured again then he comes back in. I can't see Ten Hag changing it unfortunately and it could be the difference between Champions league place and another cup.

Red Man - EtH must face some criticism for over selecting the languid Weghorst but I’m loathed to individualise yesterday’s performance.

As a fan base we’ve done this for long enough from Felllaini, Pogba, Lingard, Fred, Mctominay, Lindelof, Maguire even Ronaldo and now Weghorst the list goes on and on. I don’t have to tell you football is a team game and whilst I agree Weghorst is a very limited footballer there were several other players who also performed badly yesterday or who’s form has been equally frustrating.

The evidence was clear before a ball was even kicked that yesterday was always going to be a tough assignment especially without Casemiro. Our away form has been atrocious all season and against a partisan Newcastle team with ferocious home support yesterdays result or performance did not come as a surprise to me.

The important thing now is how the team reacts and navigates the next two home fixtures especially without Casemiro. 6 points is an absolute necessity.

EtH isn’t stupid, he has quickly jettisoned the Maguire/ Lindelof and Fred/ Mctominay axis but injuries dictate that some of these players are unfortunately still getting regular game time. Now Martial is back fit I’d be amazed if Weghorst kept his place, however we must not forget that Martial has also flattered to deceive more often than not and aggravated some Utd supporters just as much as the lacklustre Weghorst in the past.

May I respectfully request that your anger be directed at disinterested owners more preoccupied in lining their own pockets than supporting the manager in January when it was obvious a CF was badly needed.

Weghorst is on the Glazers not EtH!

Weghorst is like playing with 10, yet also brings disillusionment, in my opinion for the other players. At amateur level we have seen selection situations which left us thinking why do we bother if the boss just keeps selecting someone not performing at the same level.

A lot of years ago SAF made a strong decision on Jim Leighton, in a cup final. Leighton had lost the confidence of his team mates, dropping Weg isn’t as big as that.

I was directing my anger at the leeching owners from when I knew the financial deal at the start, then kept saying it when SAF kept saying there was no value in the market. Was Weghorst, who the club, at ETH insistence, was chased down from Turkey the best we could really find? Or the option the manager felt comfortable with? It was a wider malaise than just Weg, you are correct, but what caused that?

We have further games to put it right, but if Weg starts them, I sense unease both in the crowd and the players.

Red Man - I know you have been vehemently opposed to the Glazers from day one and my post wasn’t intended to antagonise so I apologise if it came across that way.

I agree Weghorst is a very limited footballer and share your frustration but I think our problems run deeper than just one player. We have seen the team struggle when Rashford or Martial have played upfront as well.

I prefer to concentrate on the collective and when everyone starts to perform consistently well then we can criticise individual players that are not meeting the required standard.

Like I said I agree Weghorst is poor but hand on heart can we really say that Rashford, Anthony, Bruno or Sancho when he came on were any better on Sunday.

I’m pretty sure that if Martial is now fit again Weghorst will move to the bench.

Weghorst is of limited ability for sure but people were nowhere near as critical when we were winning. If the others yday tried and played with the desire he has we probably would not have lost.

No you didn’t come over that way, no apologies needed.

Phlegmatic footballers, lacking heart are also the issue. There is more than Weg to deal with for sure. Rashford is one whose desire seems to visibly drop when the going gets tough. There again, why put himself into the thick of it, then watch Weg give it away.

Let’s see selection this week.

The biggest tragedy is that we don’t have a young player in the academy set up that’s good enough to be given a chance upfront. Homegrown number 9’s we’ve always struggled to produce. Only ones I can think of were perhaps Danny Welbeck and James Wilson.

Squad depth being exposed that’s all for what it is. It’s been a successful season, so far, and we’ve bagged a cup and still in all the others so playing lots of games at a higher intensity we’ve played at in years.

No investment available in January to push on for obvious reasons, so we brought in bodies we’d not normally look at. Rounding on Weghorst is harsh. Martial is never available. If anyone deserves criticism it’s him. He needs to move on in the summer or retire from football as he’s mentally and physically not up to the rigours of the game.

Little perspective needed.

Fireman we had the perfect goalscorer coming through, but he’s a prick off the pitch and unavailable.

Hughes and Ritchie but correct, however, I posted we picked up a young 16yr old forward from Cardiff recently. I would look at young Ferguson at Brighton, United fan as well.

Red Man, who else do we have to play as a striker?
Rashford can play, but his best position is cutting in from the left.

The management let Ten Hag down in the Jan window considering we played the most games in the world and kicking in all 4 competitions.

We need to play with 11 not 10, City managed without a No9 when they all worked together. Surely we cannot just play someone to make up the numbers?

ETH was let down, yet he supposedly pushed for Weg.

Its night and day comparing with United squad.

I'd rather Weghorst play over Martial.

If you want to talk about playing with 10 men then Martial is the best example around.

Red Man,

It was a cheapo loan with no option to buy in the January window, it's not like he had the option of Vlaohic, Osimhen and Weghorst and chose Weghorst.

Fact is, he got us into a great position and was let down by the leeches when he needed to strengthen up front.
