Do you guys find it interesting that LVG has said he wanted to judge the squad before making any decisions, but he let Rio go before doing that? Especially since Giggs said he would be starting if he had his way, which just doesn't make sense unless -

LVG wanted the old guard out irrespective, the ones who knew too much about the Utd of old (SAF), the ones he felt he couldn't mould any longer and may have been competing with, (what does that say about Carrick Fletcher even Rooney - one strike and you're out?)

If LVG wants pace and a clean slate I understand that, but it does seem rash.

We are crying out for some experience and Rio could do a job in certain circumstances especially as part of a 3, obviously slow, but we are very short at the back and it is odd that Giggs would tell Arry that he doesn't agree with LVG's decision knowing Arry has a gob on him!

I get the impression Rio would have been more than happy to have had a pre-season at Utd for LVG to assess matters, so it seems like a bit of a rash decision to me considering our lack of experience, numbers and quality at the back - what does it say about the trust in Giggs as well, undermined much?!

Maybe he just saw him play once or twice in the last 2 years?

Beast if that's the case would Rooney and Carrick not be offloaded as they played under sir Alex for quite a while? I just think rio left because we could see his legs were going and same for evra.

Maybe LVG was following Rio's twitter a/c last season and thought he's not going to do that to me

Beast, Rio wasn't up to it, why do you think he's at the massive club QPR. If it's true about Giggs wanting to keep him Ryan has a lot to learn.

Ithink Giggs was too close to Rio.both legends at the club but there comes, a time when you have to move on. Giggs will learn this hard nose approach from van gaal in next few years.
I think with 1 leader brought in Vermarlen/Hummels then Jones and Evans will thrive if they stay fit. Especially if we get Vidal as I don't see us getting over run like last year.

A hundred grand a week on a 35 year old with declining knees who was only going to be a but part player made no sense from either footballing or financial perspectives.

Th old guard needed moving on. For some of them it was long overdue.

I agree he needed to go as he is not longer great same as Vidic, but wouldn't have hurt to keep him if we don't sign the players we want and we have no experience at the back at all. let's face it we are hardly guaranteed to buy the quality we need at the back this window and LVG would have gotten rid of everyone based on last years performances pretty much.

I addressed Carrick & Rooney in my OP - they also have new contracts so it's not as easy as letting them walk like he did Rio. I also think Rooney could adjust to be a key player if he applies himself.

Obviously Rio has a mouth on him, but LVG wanted to judge things for himself apparently and with his No 2 saying he would be starting in his team it doesn't make sense.

It just strikes me as a bit rash and Rio would read the game very well at the centre of a 3. Wouldn't have hurt saying to Rio we will give you a 2month contract to see how you fit the new system and then you can be a free agent to join another team if it doesn't work - he would have accepted those terms imo.

The Beast; Rio would have been out of contract before the tour started. They surely would have had to extent his contract by a year, just so LvG could have a look at him. Knees, back, can't run anymore and is 35, that's all you need to look at.
