My worry if we sign up Darmian (which looks possible if the news outlets are anything to go by) is that if we believe what we have read and heard over the last few months then we haven't been able to persuade our first choice targets thus far.

Even with Depay signed up, if you go down the path of looking at some pretty legitimate sources then that would give you the impression that it was in fact Bale who was of main interest to us for the wing but it seemed to be a non starter so we got Depay.

Now before I get the usual 'your a negative nelly' comments, I am not knocking Darmian or Depay but if say Bale and Coleman were first choice it makes you wonder would a club like Real Madrid have stuck to their guns and got their man? I suppose we will see with De Gea.

No one knows who our first choice targets are or were. Plus that Is the reason you have options and move with changing information.
Ramos would not have been on a list because no one would have thought he would leave. there is nothing wrong with exploring that avenue if information suggests he might.

what makes you think we were after Bale in this window? and what makes you think he would have wanted to leave Real?

All these rumours have came from the papers speculating who our targets are, nothing more.

jmb i don't think so depay and bale have to do anything but o agree with darmian he surely 3rd choice but tat not really the club fault dani was our 1st choice he used us then coleman was our 2nd choice everton said not for sale and other clubs where closing on darmain if its ture v got him i m happy for the 1st time rather then chasing targets which we won't get and loose the other target we done good job

Coleman may well have been "first choice" but that's only in the correct circumstances. We wouldn't want to pay £30-£40m Everton would probably demand just to make sure we nail our "first choice" targets. For me, Coleman is a decent RB but doesn't warrant a bigger fee than say £20m max. So I'd rather move on if we get told by Everton we need to pay £30 odd million. Same for other targets

Well no British journalists knew we have been in discussions for over 4 months with Darmain until now. So they hardly seems very reliable to me JMB.

I tell u one person who was talking about Darmain a lot, ED02, he was putting his name out there quite a bit from what I've read on others.
Thats not a soppy we need ED02 back comment just saying we might of had a bit more of a clue he was coming if he was still about.

Anyways back to the point, i think this window is proving the British press know not much of our interest in many of our targets so who knows who 1st 2nd or 3rd choice transfer is.

Let's wait a minute here. The story of Darmian has only been running for the last few days for starters and as for Bale he has been linked to us for months and months through some reputable journals and sources like the Telegraph etc.

Ed002 has said that Bale would be available at the right price and that Untied was a possible destination for the player should Real cash in on him. Ed002 also spoke extensively about Clyne and Coleman for months in regards to United having possible interest, not Darmian. So was Ed002 just feeding us BS? I don't think so.

Ur right JMB we aren't attracting the players we want no matter how much money we throw at them! So your theory of players only care about money still isn't working out for me this window as I've not seen any examples yet!!!!

Some people will moan if we spend silly money on the likes of Di Maria and Falcao, then moan again when we try to be more savvy and get the right players for the right price - rather than a flashy name.

All the above is based on speculation jmb (altho in your head it somehow becomes fact) but don't let that get in the way of having a dig at the club.

I asked ed002 about Darmian approx 4 month ago after I spotted a story online. He was mooted albeit very slightly compared to alves, coleman an clyne. Woodward and man utd seem to be playing a poker style game in the transfer windows over the last 3 and imo are getting better at it playing 1 off another. I expect more signings like everyone else I guess but still think there will be 1 major shock that surprises the massess- atm I would guess at a punt on barkley
