I agree with a lot of this. Part of me would rather see Rooney's remaining goals needed to break Charlton's record scored by other player (s) . Why? Will Rooney be sat in the stands in his late 70's, his face pained when things are going disastrously? I think not.

Spot on in every aspect stand United.
Not even the most ardent Rooney supporters on this site can argue with any of that (but I can think of one or two that may try😅😅lol) the poll yesterday shows that 5 out of every 6 that voted would prefer to see Rooney out rather than Bastian.
But its now up to the manager top Gerry him out of the club. I would raster spend 20m passing him off than invest in another player. His presence imo is disruptive and counter productive. Big Sam should do the same he is finished apart from the odd flash and has been for a very king time.

I stopped reading after "having played in top sides for most of his career".

Until 2008 we were useless, then during the Ronaldo period he was shoe horned out right, after that, especially since 2011 he has played in horifically sub par teams.

I don't think he can be considered a legend but he's certainly a great.

For me the club only have 3 legends: Sir Alex Ferguson, Sir Matt Busby and Sir Bobby Charlton.

{Ed041's Note - scholes, giggs, keane, Neville?

Stand, so I take it that you don't like Rooney. Haha. You're right. He's not been good for the past few seasons. He slows the game down.

How can Uniteds all time leading goal scorer (probably) not be considered a legend?

06/ 07 season, PL winners, CL Semi finalists, players such as Rio, VDS, Vidic, Ronaldo, RVN, Giggs, Scholes.

07/ 08 PL winner, CL winners, enough said

08/ 09 PL winners, CL finalists,

10/ 11 PL winners, CL finalists

12/ 13 PL champions.

Don't try telling me Rooney hasn't played the majority of his career in a top side. The only years he hasn't have been the last 3, where incidentally he has been the worst performer in the starting 11, and continues to be. You mention he was shoehorned out wide to accommodate Ronaldo, who incidentally was the best or if not in the top two in world football. Ironic that he's the one keeping other better players out the side or out of position now isn't it. He's been good for us. Not a great, and certainly not a legend.

Schmidfield, it's not a case of not liking him. I just don't feel he is anywhere near worthy of being called a club legend, when he's acted fairly unprofessionally his whole career with us. I feel he's a big problem in the dressing room that needs removing. Not to mention he's a poor footballer these days.

Lastsanemanalive, I just wrote about 5 paragraphs why.
