I saw a team which will finish third maybe at best second in the league tonight. We still lack that clinical player other than a centre forward to score goals and create danger, someone who can truly fill the No7 shirt, a Sanchez, Bale type.

New season and Live chat contained the usual extreme negativity, yet we are playing the very best in a game they wanted to win, so for me it was a learning curve. Add a No7, Bailly back in defence and a full back and we would be closer to the top as long as we start taking our chances.

I think if we play like that we will finish outside the top 4. City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs are all capable of much better consistently than what we delivered.

However it's early days, we got a bit better as the game went on, but i fear that's more to do with Madrid being less fit.

I'd expect us to be a bit sharper and a bit more of a team after a full pre-season, but I saw the same performance we dished up week in week out last season. A few missed chances, but on the whole, laboured and lacking any real cohesion. Matic was a big plus, but he hasn't been with the team all pre-season so that is concerning in itself!

Who called Chelsea to win it last season or Leicester the year before .
It's not just about buying players .

It's still pre season.

The less said about that the better! Simply outclassed by a superior team.

Bailly was a big loss and Lindelof is going to need time to settle.

In my opinion our season will hinge on the form of Miki, Rashford, Martial, Lingard and Mata. As we've all seen we're still blighted by inconsistency in those positions and I still don't think any of them have Jose's complete trust!
I simply don't think he knows who to play out wide. Unless at least one of them can step up, support Lukaku and score 15 goals plus it will be hard for us to mount any serious challenge!

Still it's not all doom and gloom. I thought Matic looked very good, we've still got De Gea (we may have been hammered without him) Miki has achieved those numbers in Germany, Rashford and Martial both have talent, Bailly to come back in at the weekend and we won't be playing Madrid every week!

Let's not be to despondent the real business starts on Sunday and I thought Jose post match interview was very positive!
