Not that I think or want this to happen BUT where abouts do people think United will finish this year if we only sign Shaw and Herrera? We have slightly addressed our most pressing concerns in the middle of midfield and at left back so do people think we will already be an improvement on next years league position or have our rivals strengthened too much for us to already make an impact?

I know this will probably be irrelevant if/when we sign Vidal etc but i'd just like to hear other peoples views on this.

Everyones thoughts would be appreciated.

I think we are already stronger. The number of points lost in the first half of last year from the vacant left back position was unbelievable. Pat improved in the second half (or others learned to cover him better) but the damage has been done. Shaw will make a massive difference, and will rebalance the whole back line.

I see the loss of Ferdy and Vidic as a big plus. We can play a much higher line with any two from stock of centre backs (including M Keane). Even without a centre back signing I believe we would do better than last season - probably struggling against the top 4.

We have the midfielders to shut up shop and stifle teams, but we've lacked drive, creativity and support into the box from centre midfield. Herrera will add this in spades. I believe he will do really well to link our best players together. I also think Cleverly will link well with him, and may rediscover some of his early promise.

No I think we need at least one cb and a cm and maybe a pacey left sided player

We won't only be signing them 2 so not even thinking about it.

If we get vidal and hummels, I believe we will be in top three may even win the title but that will be a stretch.

If we sign nobody else - 5th/6th
If we sign Vidal and Vermaelen/De Vrij - 3rd
If we sign Vidal, Hummels, Vermaelen/De Vrij and a decent wide player - 2nd/1st

We are definitely stronger than last year, but the competition we need this year will be City with the squad they won the league 2) Chelsea w Fabregas and Costa 3) Arsenal w Sanchez 4) Liverpool w/o Suarez, but many more inflows. It doesn't look it has got any easier than last year to get into top 4, but when we won the league in 12/13, we were not the top favourites anyway. We can still hope!
