If van Persie is worth >£5m at 31 on the open market and at £12m per yr. How much is Rooney worth at the same salary and around 18 months younger? In my view less.

That is why he won't be sold.

It depends on the length of contract remaining among other things, doesn't it?

Yes, so many different reasons why prices are different for different players, who has said he is worth more or less?

Oi No.1midfield, he has a very valid question! I'd say he is worth more than Van Persie, but to sell him I think we'd struggle getting more than about £15-20m now, personally.

From a business point of view, whenever we sell him and whatever we sell him for the fee will probably be pure profit and a fat pay check off the books.

My guess is he's with us until 2019 when his contract expires, unless he really wants to be somewhere else and is prepared to take a pay cut. That's the dilemma LVG faces. He can't really put a 300k a week player on the bench for 4 years. I suppose he could try and do what Monaco have been doing with Falcao to get his salary off the books, but again, why would Rooney do that?

So, at least for this upcoming year Rooney will be given the chance to play in his favorite position. Personally I think he deserves the opportunity to claim his place as United's top goal scorer ever. I hope he makes it and I'm sure he will be going all out to smash the record.

In a market where sterling is worth 49m I honestly don't know where to start valuing players anymore.
