Apparently United, having agreed a deal in principle, opted for RVP over Lewandowski in 2012 - load of bull me thinks.

In Fergie's book he explains that they only turned to RVP when it became clear that Lewandoski had decided to join Bayern.

From what I can rememeber we were interested in both at the time. I think we opted for RvP in the end due to his premier league experience and because he really wanted the move and pushed for it.

In hindsight you may be able to look at it and think maybe it was the wrong decision. But RvP was a massive part of our last title, and we have no idea how Lewandowski would have adapted to the EPL. A million different things could have happened. He could have moved and had a career ending injury the following week.

It doesn't pay to look back and wonder what could have been. People only tend to do it when the chips are down. If we were defending EPL champions no one would care what might have been 4 years.
Its just another case of the press having a sly swipe at us. Ignore it is the best advive I can give you.

Like I said. i think its BS. I for one have no regrets about RVP, even though it was short lived.

If we didn't sign RVP, Manchester City would have and that would have most likely won them the title that year. He was hungry to win something and with Fergie wanting to go out with a bang, RVP was a no-brainer at the time. Although Lewy was definitely a huge miss for the long-term.

Like Danny says there are a couple of paragraphs in sir alex' book that explain it.
