Just saw on the euro page ed002 said that ourselves or arsenal could possibly go for William carvalho that's interesting from what I've seen of him he looks decent.

To be honest Carvalho is closer to what we need imo than Pogba. Obviously Pogba has far more potential and is a more complete player.

But when I look at our team we only really have Carrick or Blind to play infront of the back four.

Schweinsteiger isn't great in that role, nor is Herrera. Schneiderlin can play that role but it restricts his game. Rooney, Mata or Fellaini certainly can't play that role.

Personally when I look at our midfield options what we are really missing is that player who'll dictate the tempo from deep while offering a certain amount of protection infront of the back four.

Obviously Pogba would be an upgrade on what we have, but he isn't fullfilling a gap in our midfield needs.

Morgan can play that role easy Shappy.

For me it depends on how Mourinho wants to play. If he goes 4231 then at Chelsea he had a destroyer (Matic) and a flair player to drive forwards (Fabregas) .
We have looked at Carvallho for years and for many reasons (price mainly) we have never bit the bullet. that said Schneiderlins best play at Southampton was alongside Wanyama so they could actually build a good access together.

I have been hugely impressed with Carvalho.

Irish Devil, Morgan can play that role. In fact he played it all last season and everyone has panned him for a very underwhelming debut campaign. Schneiderlin plays best when he is allowed to push on and be a true box to box player. Him and Kante play a very similar game. Kante was a success last season as Drinkwater stayed deep and allowed Kante the freedom to move where he needed to to break up play and start counters. Wanyama played the holding role at Southampton allowing Morgan the freedom to roam forward or where ever to break up play and start counters.

Incidentally that is also Pogba's best position. our issue is that we lack a true holding midfielder, someone who'll stay deep and allow our other midfielders the freedom to move forward. Atm we only have an ageing Carrick and Blind who isn't good enough to play that role and got panned for it during his first season at the club. We could play TFM in that role, and many believe that will be his best position long term, but that would be chucking him in at the deep end.

Here's a name that I think could be a great signing for us and is exactly what we need in midfield imo Johannes Geis. He is fantastic at starting attacks from deep, while also acting as a shield infant of the back line. Him deep with Schneiderlin and one of Herrera or Rooney would make a great midfield three.

But that lacks a big name signing so most people would prefer us to spend a fortune on a player such as Pogba just to have the bragging rights.

Shappy please Rooney could never form part of a great midfield 3. He is not or never will be a great midfielder.

Your probably right Ken, I ment if Rooney was the most advanced midfielder effectively playing the No.10 role while the other 10 players play out of their skins and Mourinho has some massiah like effect on Rooney raising him to a level we haven't seen for several years. Then we might have a good team. Lmao.

I think he will play 4231 shappy and Rooney could win the central slot in the 3 but only if He contributes a lot more than He has done in last couple of seasons.
There is a chance of that.

I think the holding midfielder role is earmarked for TFM. Matuidi could be a good filler (this year, splitting time late in games or when we're in control) while mentoring TFM to take over full time in 17/ 18 season.
