I watched the highlights Tris and if that was United I would be fuming. VAR was lauded as addressing clear and obvious errors but it feels like it is constantly looking for things it can overturn. This geometric analysis showing a part of the body was a couple of millimetres offside is nonsense. People will say offside is offside but it’s not clear and obvious. Mane was obvious, Salah wasn’t.

We than have linesmen wait ing until the phase of play has finished and then raising their flag leading to more confusion.

And worse of all, VAR seems to get decisions wrong. penalties are given when they shouldn’t be, and some aren’t when they should. I think its farcical and ruining the game.

{Ed001's Note - it is making it difficult to watch a match. When it is your own team you put it on because you want to support your team, but any other matches are just too much like hard work at the moment. I can't understand how they have all this tech to help them and it has made things worse! Especially when you consider the English league put it off for a year so they 'could get it right' before they introduced it. What a joke.}

Clear and obvious is nothing to do with offside. It's on or off. Very close though.

I thought the pen was correct. Wellbeck won the 50/ 50 with a slight touch and got kicked. Anywhere else on the pitch that's a foul. Very soft though.

{Ed025's Note - and it cost liverpool 2 points which is good james.. :)

The offsides are a joke and as you say AJH if that’s your own team you are fuming. VAR needs to be used to spot a clear and obvious offside. 2mm is not that.

It was a penalty though, that was clear enough.

All the offside decisions were right, so I don't see what the problem is. other than the delay.

You could say that, without VAR, a team would win some and lose some, but that's not entirely true. The top teams attack more so they would get more wrong decisions in their favor. which is what the weaker teams always used to complain about. Not just that, but refs seemed to be swayed into giving the better teams the benefit of the doubt more often.

Or perhaps all the wrong decisions of the past provided a more satisfying metaphor for real life wherein most spend their existences with a feeling of being robbed.

If there's a problem with VAR making the right decisions then perhaps it is the rules that need changing.

If there's anything that makes the game difficult to watch it's the lack of crowd noise. Football is nothing without the fans. Now who said that?

I find it hard to watch other games now as you find yourself switching off or getting angry at a ridiculous var decision.

I even wonder, if they do magically get it right and start applying var "correctly", will it still be the same?

I don't even celebrate a goal anymore, I find myself waiting a minute or so in case it ends up getting overruled.
