Let's all wish David De Gea the very best as he ties the knot to his long time sweetheart. I am happy for him.

I am also happy that his contract has expired. His United legacy is assured, but he simply no longer merits being far and away the highest paid goalkeeper in the world. I'm not sure he ever did but United were scared to lose him so they overpaid to keep him. He may be a great shot stopper, but any great goalkeeper will pull off great saves. In many other respects, much discussed on this site, he is deficient.

The reality is that if De Gea is not going to be our future #1 goalie, and all things point to ETH having decided that he is not, then even a reduced salary of £200k per week is far too much.

We only have a load of journalistic guesses to work on but if he was offered this amount some time ago but failed to accept it until the last minute, after, perhaps, no better offers came in, then he is the one responsible for the situation. Based on intervening events the club is perfectly entitled to let its offer lapse. I don't see anything wrong with it doing so. Who knows, maybe David is quite happy too. Maybe he wants to move back to Spain.

If this process ends with us securing a new #1 keeper more suited to ETH's style, then great. The club does not have to continue paying for the copious mistakes of the Woodward era.

lot of emphasis on Oanna being our top target and how good he is with his feet, anyone ever seen him actually hold on to the ball with his hands? the amount of times he punches the ball or pushes it back into play is worrying.

Has a hint of a bartez about him. A few howlers and the media be all over him I fear.

Onana is a very good goalkeeper. Like pretty much every player he has some areas of his game that need improving. With him it's mostly a tendency to not fully clear a shot out of danger. Tha will always lead to dangerous chances given away.

The UK media will jump on any mistake by any player Manchester United sign because we are Manchester United and negative press around our club gets clicks and sells papers.

If we sign him you can guess the headlines already when he makes a mistake. Probably something like "Andre Oh-No-Na" when he makes a mistake (which he will, as will every player) .

Not point worrying about what the press will say. Personally I think he massively improves us as a team by enabling us to fully embrace EtH's stylistic vision.

I’m not convinced about Onana at all. Good feet yeah, but he’s like a human trampoline with balls pinging off him in all directions.

Fireman, I think Onana is a good keeper who excels with the ball at his feet. I think his shot stopping style is slightly unconventional. But it seems to work for him, he keeps a lot of clean sheets and saves the majority of shots he faces. He also hasn't been punished too much when those shots he saves are pushed back into the danger zone and not away from it.

I remember watching a young DDG make saves with his legs rather than get his hands down. Watching the ball sometimes not get pushed away in the manner you'd like to see. He made it work even though at times it looked uncomfortable or ungainly.

Just imagine having a keeper that plucks the ball out of the air, rather than stands on the line and hopes his defenders deal with the issue. When have you ever seen DDG like any commanding GK go for a cross and catch the ball? If we concede a pen I would like the thought that we could save this pen, that's never been the case with DDG. Guaranteed to go the wrong way. A certain goal for opposition. Time for a fresh start and a much needed change.

Anyone thought about having a crack at Robert Sanchez now that Brighton signed a new keeper from Brugge (I think) who I think we were linked too. could be a cheaper option claims crosses, good with his feet, good shot stopper. just unsure why he got dropped at Brighton ?.
