Hi Ed, Ronaldo is mysteriously ill after getting captain, and Martial returning to the team. With January coming of course soon after the World Cup… is there a chance Ronaldo can depart in January? Would the club and player consider a mutual termination?

Ronaldo is mysteriously ill to avoid picking up an injury before what will almost certainly be his last international tournament I suspect.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia beckons for CR37.

I wonder if he will recover in time for the World Cup? Nail biting stuff for Portugal.

You think so Shappy? I reckon he'll make the next Euros even as a morale-boosting bench option/ distraction. Guess it depends on the quality of the Portugal squad at the time, to be fair they've got some terrific youngsters coming through. Dark horses.

Spenno, I think he's being phased out at national level. If his contributions continue to diminish at international level like they are at club level then I'm not sure he'll be part of the next Euro squad assuming they qualify.

If he isn't doing it on the pitch then they won't take him as a distraction to sit on the bench. We have seen at United how Ronaldo copes with that.

To be fair he pretty much won them the 98 trophy from the sidelines with his energy and support alone. I can see how it wouldn't go down well in some quarters but it worked for them, they worship him.

Oops, 2016 sorry.

Think we’ll see him in a Utd shirt again?

Move to Sporting or US feels likely to me. It’s time to move on for both parties.

I think it depends on the money side of it. Can a deal between new club and United be struck over how much each pays of his wages. I can't see us not having to stump up a fortune to cover the wages and whether or not the suits agree to this.

{Ed014's Note - what club in their right mind what’s the nugget

His only motivator was to move to a CL club this season, so he could add to his tally of goals. Sporting are out. Could see Benfica take him for 6 months.

Spenno, I can't see that. Sporting and Benfica are big rivals.

Look at his little outburst tonight. He’s ruining his own reputation- not only his Manchester United one.

There’s no way back from a few of those comments. All part of his exit plan.

Just being friends with Piers Morgan should be enough to get rid even if he didn’t do the interview.

Ten Hag will be happy he has taken on the biggest name in football and won, Ronaldo has no where to go but to the media as his play doesn't back up his talk any more. Ten Hag's authority at United will be unquestioned now.

The biggest thing I can take from the Ronaldo interview is to be extremely grateful that we now have a manager capable of running that dressing room and the club! He’s in charge! Cr7 has had to run to his mate whose an absolute cretin to try and rally his fan club! He’s done with us and thank god for that!

Ronaldo is an absolute scumbag. Regardless of your thoughts on the allegations, this interview, the disrespect he has shown the club recently and the company he keeps all show him for exactly what he is.

He is poisonous and has totally destroyed his legacy here.

At least got 4 weeks to sort this out so no impact on day to day team.

Aye Wallace, the timing is good as theoretically he won't need to return now. Still leaves us with a whopping great hole up front mind. Wouldn't it be great if there was a giant exhibition of the world's best players coming up.

Maybe there will be another Karel Poborsky who will light up the World Cup and tempt us.

Shappy, he pretty much admitted he nearly ended up at City. Let's not pretend he'd put Lisbon ahead of Benfica if that was his best option.

Surely his contract can now be simply terminated? If there wasn't sufficient grounds with his previous recent behaviour then there must be now.

It's a fair point Fizz, if I publicly belittled my boss, the owners and workplace to that extent I wouldn't expect to be there the next day. Obviously it's his intention to ramp up the poor relationship he has with those above him until they give the nod to cut ties. Quite funny what he said about Rooney though lol.

This is the CR7 all united fans wanted back; now he is irritating and now Ten hag is the big cheese in the changing room.
How long will that last? With the big edds at the club could be a number of players moved on sooner than later CR7 has friends in the changing room. [From a Liverpool fan]
