Hi Ed. Not really related to the January window nonsense, but the club has a few key decisions to make it seems on GK and CB over the coming months.

GK aside as you've mentioned this a few times, but have the longer term futures of Maguire and Lindelof been decided yet, as I don't really a future for either under ETH?

{Ed002's Note - I don't know what decisions have been made but suspect both coupld be available in the summer.}

I know Shaw has played there previously but it says a lot if he’s starting over either of them. Assume neither are fit.

Both are fit.

I would have thought Maguire would definately be off if he can't even start at CB ahead of Luke Shaw.

ten Hag’s order of preference at centre half seems to be:

1. Varane
2. Martinez
3. Shaw
4. Lindelof
5. Maguire

With Casemiro and McTominay also able to play there, surely sell Maguire now and use the money to bolster the forward line?

Downise is right, our biggest issue the last couple of seasons has been our lack of goals, not sure we have a recognised striker at the club anymore, just converted wingers, and unless Maguire can play at No.9 he should move on.

For me someone like Niclas Fullkrug would be a good six month option, then he can be back up if EtH gets his No.1 option in the summer.

You're not wrong there Grim re: lack of goals. I was watching the table live yesterday as it updated and was stunned when I saw how poor our good was compared to everyone else around us.

What makes you think Lindelof is ahead of Maguire? Yesterday lindelof remained on the bench and Maguire came on.

GDS2 Maguire can be thrown upfront with his slab of a head in case he makes a mistake and we concede an equaliser. Lindelof cannot. On balance, Lindelof is faster, smarter, better passer and assumes better positions than Maguire. Maguire is simply horrible and his only good quality is his slab of a head (the outside of it) .

I'm not sure if Lindelof is ahead or behind Maguire in the pecking order under EtH.

However, Lindelof has just come back from an injury and wasn't a part of the squad for the Nottingham Forest game.

So he may be behind Maguire in terms of fitness and being "match ready".

Either way we can survive without Maguire, sell him asap and get Felix in or someone similar, a striker, we need funds to buy someone, harry would bound to raise maybe 35, 40 m if it's Newcastle interested.

Newcastle have bought smart so far, why suddenly would they throw this away for Maguire!

Lindelof is most similar to varane, shaw is most similar to martinez. Those two are least disruptive to the team and how they usually play.

35-40m hahaha I’d drive him there.

We paid double for an in-form player who we saw as the one to sort out our defence and be an inspiring captain for a decade. I imagine he'll go to the likes of Newcastle or Villa for half the sum we paid sooner rather than later.
Maguire isn't Beckenbauer and he's not worth the ridiculous sum we paid, but I do feel there is a human element to it all. Maybe a bigger conversation on how social media and being in the spotlight has amplified in recent years but the constant online abuse players at all clubs get (particularly Utd) when they're out of favour is ridiculous. Millionaires or not it clearly affects players differently, some rise and even thrive from it but he's one that doesn't. No wonder modern clubs have as many psychologists as they do coaches.

Simple answer is don't read it if it has a negative impact on you.
Also we don't know if maguire does read it.
Too many assumptions there.
He is not right for united. He may well do well wisher if he does good luck to him.
Daft fee for us to pay but we had a daft manager and a daft ceo at the time.

I seem to remember both City and United were in for Maguire, part of the reason why we paid the high price maybe. He started off well, but it has fallen apart over the last two seasons.

He should never have been made captain so soon, he was supposed to be a leader on the pitch but that never seem to materialise.

I think he will do well at another club where the spotlight isn't so intense.

Jose wanted Maguire, he suits Jose's scheme. We decide not to buy him for Jose but for a manager many people are still trying to work our what on earth his system was. What it was not though was asyatem playing to Maguires strengths.

What it was not oakbark is a system, it was nothing.
