Can I ask you then ed, do you believe if a suitable offer came in united would be willing to sell and Rooney would be willing to go? If so do you believe a replacement would be looked at or do you think united already have their replacement at the club?
Trickee {Ed004's Note - I reckon it would have to be a top offer for both player and club but I can't see that sort of offer being offered. However, if, and thats a big IF, he is sold a world class replacement will be sought after, although I cant think of many players I'd want to replace him. Gotze will be world class, Ozil oozes class, you could move RVP back which Im not sure about and move for Falcao or Cavani there are plenty of options.}

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I heard juve were thinking of signing him.
and apparently rooney has also said that if juve were interested in him he wouldn't be able to turn down the approach from the old lady.

(i know. it's lame)

JK92

Agree17 Disagree1

Haha, good one JK92, made me chuckle. In all seriousness though, I don't think anyone would pay what we would want for him, however you never know in a swap deal. Maybe swap him for someone like Vidal, or even someone like Modric plus cash (cash to us from Madrid).

whilst i'm not advocating we do sell him I can see it happening. I think that's the reason we signed van persie, not some huff on this season we'll try to outscore city. The whole contract thing annoyed ferguson and we know how he likes the last laugh. Then there's the weight issues, its not very professional especially for the young lads to see and of course you now have van persie there who's a top professional. His pace has gone, his first touch too, he's not good enough to play midfield despite his delusions. He does still have his workrate and goal scoring though. Like I said I can see the case for him being sold and it could happen especially as contract wise this is a key summer. But I can also see him staying as we have bigger fish to fry this summer - namely the midfield and nani. And just who exactly would we sell him to? It won't be to city or chelsea we're not as daft as arsenal and don't strengthen rivals like they do selling to us and city. So leaves abroad. Wont be dortmund they couldn't afford the fee. Wont be munich as think they other targets. Wont be milan don't need him and might struggle with the fee. Could be juventus but could they do the fee? Wont be barcelona they don't need him. Maybe madrid but do they need him and they have other targets. Paris could afford him. I think their mort likely bidders. As to replacements that's easy with fifty million from him plus whatever we get from nani bid for gotze and lewandowski and we should still have plenty left over to put towards a midfielder and we won't have touched our usual pot which could go on a second midfielder, left back and a couple of kids. Not saying it will happen but it could. MrE

Agree2 Disagree0

Unless Rooney has a Berbatov-like contract where there is an option to extend by a year, this summer will be pivotal to the rest of Rooney's career. We will not allow him to enter his final two years.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree1

One big thing being overlooked is whether Rooney could adapt to a foreign culture. He is more intelligent than given credit for but whether he could learn a new language and settle abroad. whether his family would want or be able to do likewise. is very very unlikely in my eyes. so that limits his and Utds options if a sale is to be made {Ed007's Note - You blew it with 'he is more intelligent than given credit for'. Think along the lines of a dumbed down Homer Simpson.}

Agree4 Disagree2

Word of warning for some of the posters wanting rid of Rooney - we once got £80m for our best player. Did we replace him with a ready made, world-class star using much of what we hade made from the Ronny transfer? No, we spent £16m on a player from Wigan.

Just be careful what you wish for peeps! If we sell Rooney for £40m+ I would still be very surprised if we paid more than £20-25m on his replacement, quite possibly less.

He is 4th choice I think after Di Santo, Kone and one other? He went there primarily as cover for Kone when he went to the AFCON. Now that Kone has returned and they are all fit I think he will find it difficult to get game time TBH. Still a good experience for him at 18 yrs old but would be nice for him to get some games under his belt.

Can I be allowed to make a statement of the (fairly) obvious?
Sometimes a poster (me included) posts a comment (or maybe a reply to someone else's comment) and doesn't get a comeback. We think we have a won a moral victory and the target of our comment has been put to the sword. The wiser amongst you (forgot for a moment who I was talking to) will realise that not ALL posts get put up. So we should all think of that when we go on our smug way. We haven't necessarily 'won the fight'
We might have been protected by a busy (or compassionate) Ed. By the way Disney - I am not singling you out specifically win this post

We have to beat Reading first, we should not get ahead of ourselves. If we do, then it's Chelsea. (sorry Middlesborough but you know. it's unlikely). Well, this is a good draw because: We're at home and it is a chance to knock Chelsea without playing them in Wembley, and it's a bad draw: because it's 5 days after Madrid. But we have to beat the best to be the best, and I'm pretty confident against Chelsea. As I remember a second-string United team almost beating a proper Chelsea team in the Carling Cup.

T-O-I

Believable7 Unbelievable6

It would have been nice to get someone like blackburn or burnely. So many big games against tough opposition in a short span of time. City are one lucky bunch when you look at who they have played so far and who they got. Anyway cautiously optimistic we will beat Chelsea.

Shahram

Agree5 Disagree1

While it would be nice to see us playing the odd lower league team, if only to blood younger players, I personally think the team perform better against better opposition. I also think it creates a momentum and a belief amongst the side, when we win these matches.

Not getting ahead of myself though as Reading won't lie down, but feel they may be more worried about premiership survival and field a team accordingly.

Sydney, your footballing knowledge is embarrasing wee lad. I am a blooded liverpool fan but give united players credit when its due. You stated because of a bad result midweek in russia liverpool are in a huge decline, wee lad are you on something or are you more obsessed with liverpools fall than man uniteds success? United lose matches in europe and are sometimes played of the park e.g athletico bilbao last season and your excuses are united players were tired when the true reason was that uniteds MF were played of the park because fergie has still yet to replace scholes with a worldclass MF. But we lose on wednesday night and you can't wait to rite lfc are in this s huge' decline, truly your a funny wee lad. A true fan of any team celebrates their own teams success more than of the rivals team loss.
United no doubt are have a great team and manager, but lfc are improving, slowly but surely. If I was a united fan i'd be embarrassed of some of your posts because most fans laugh at your posts whilsts acknowledging other united points which mostly are valid. Stick to posting about unitedbecause they do surprisingly show some footballing knowledge'

Agree3 Disagree1

I don't think Sydney came to the conclusion that Liverpool are in a S. t state because of the midweek result!

The fact you are 26 points off the top tells it's own story. You don't need a great deal of football knowledge to see Liverpool are shadow of the great team they used to be.

Just because you have a good result today doesn't change the fact you are still 26 points below.

If you read the Liverpool banter pages on a regular basis you will see most liverpool fans agree.

Liverpool have improved compared to the midweek performance but you need to put in performances like that week in week out not 1 in every 5 games.

Marky Mark

Agree10 Disagree1

Big Al you should really refrain from posting after having a couple of beers. How many times can a man refer to someone else as 'wee lad' in one post?

Says the Liverpool fan on the United page. Al, Liverpool are a mess and are still in massive decline whether you like to believe it or not. A win today means nothing, look at the table, you are nearly thirty points behind us and that gap will keep increasing. You are out of the cups and you are about to be knocked out of the lame Europa League. You are going to lose your only decent player in the summer and only second rate players will join your club, but only when they are offered a sizable signing-on fee. Keep on telling yourself that you are improving, but you are not.

quite interesting to see that a lot of the English media who have always been his biggest supporter and creators of most of the hype surrounding him are now starting to say that we have already seen the best of the Spud faced nipper and he will never reach his potential. I have been slaughtered on these pages for the last year or so for saying the exact same thing. I do feel that now RVP has stepped into the role of goal machine and shown the touch of a world class player young Wayne looks a bit lost and as if his nose has been put out of place. Maybe he got that massive contract that he held us to ransom for and thought he was untouchable. He certainly started this season a good stone over weight which didn't impress Sir Alex or any one else who was at Goodison to see him plodding around. He now has the perfect opportunity to shoot me and all the other doubters down. We have some massive games coming up and he needs to step up to the plate and grab these games by the scruff of the neck like he used to and not just let them run past him like he did on Wednesday. At 19 you had every right to speak about the boy in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo but now if you did people would just laugh at you. Who is to blame? that's a mystery maybe his build maybe the injuries or maybe he just burnt out. I make no secret of the fact that I don't like what he did to the club and where he was going to but on the other side I have met the lad several times and he has always been very nice. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong and makes me look foolish for ever doubting him but sadly I feel we have seen the best of the boy and now it seems that the media is waking up to it. I AM KLOOT

Whistler. {Ed004's Note - The problem is who will pay the sort of fee united will be looking for?}

Agree5 Disagree1

Tbh honest KLOOT he could score a goal every game till the end of the season and you would still keep to your opinion.
U say you have been slaughtered on these pages for suggesting that? When? people have there own opinions on rooney and I think they disagree with ure CONSTANT wazza bashing even when he has a great game, I dnt think I have ever seen a positive post from you about him and doubt I will.
I think the press are now suggesting this because of our lead at the top and without united on the back pages there's no stories to read really, dnt get me wrong he hasn't been worldclass this season but it was only last season he carried us in long periods of the season to just miss out on the title, last I knew us united fans get behind there players when they have a off season and support them through thick and thin, but then I guess he has been our only player to ever demand more money when in a strong position at the club, you would never see any1 else do that would u??

KLOOT

I have no problem with poster's voicing their opinion that Rooney has not reached the level expected of him, or that he is in bad form, or even that we should consider moving him on. All points which could be seen as valid to crtain extents.

Personally, I've only ever spoke out against your Rooney posts when you've singled him out for unfair critisism. You've told us all that you count his misspasses at games which implies some kind of vendetta and may cause you to miss a few other things that happen on the pitch. Also, when we do see a top Rooney performance (e. g. v City) you fail to recognise his input. In fact you still critisize him! That is my only problem with your posts on Rooney, I think you're being a bit precious coming on here saying 'I have been slaughtered on these pages. ' when your posts on him have been generally overly-harsh and damning, even resorting to abuse. Plenty other posters put together reasoned views on Rooney without resorting to the abuse and blinkered critisism.

Actually, this post is one of your more reasonable regarding this player, and I do agree with a lot of it! Wayne needs to step up between now and the summer. But at the same time I will continue to value the crucial goals (City, Fulham) and assists he has got whilst not being in top form.

Gav

Z

Agree12 Disagree4

I strongly believe we have seen the best of Rooney, still offers a lot, but you can see he is slowing down. Two years left on his contract, 27 and slowing down. Probably a good time to sell him if selling him is on the cards. Or will he move to midfield? Personally I think we need a better midfielder.

Sydney!

Agree10 Disagree8

He's not played well this season, but I would rather have him in my team. Trust me, he'll decide a few games for us this season.

He can still play up top had a good game only the other week for England
It's just the same people who give him a hard time week after week
Some think unless he's amazing he must if had a bad game
Can't remember people slating him at the end of the last season let's Waite and judge at the end if the season
Z

Agree3 Disagree5

Ed004, I imagine PSG would sign him if he was made available. But if we did accept an offer for Rooney the club would need to sign a player of star quality. Someone like Lewandowski could replace RvP as main striker, RvP would play just behind him & Rodriguez to the left perhaps.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - But there is a huge risk of moving RVP into a deeper position. Would you risk him not getting as many goals?}

Agree2 Disagree2

Z, is that you Jred?

Sydney ;)

Agree2 Disagree0

Sure not I've said my bit on rooney, think his performance against madrid has been blown way over the top, striker playing left mid asked for tactical reasons to do a defensive job, enough said for me

just look at the post's above same people saying the same thing no matter how he plays, so no point discussing it people have made there minds up
jred

Agree6 Disagree0

Ed004, I wouldn't have him playing as deep as Rooney does, Rooney is practically a midfielder at times. I would keep RvP up top, just not as forward as Lewandowski.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - I'm not sure RVP could play there. Especially if we start pressing teams he will have to do a lot more running}

Agree2 Disagree2

Looks like Rainfish can evaluate Rooney's and Cleverley's performance better than most of you. Or is he the only honest poster from your place?

Puzzled

Agree2 Disagree4

RVP practically plays there anyway. He would only have to do more running if we expected him to drop back help out like Rooney does but if we sort the central midfield out then that would not be as much of an issue.

TK-Red

Agree2 Disagree2

Jred, no offence mate, but this 'played out of position' argument annoys the hell out of me.

Where he plays on the pitch should have no bearing whatsoever on not being able to control a football and pass it correctly to someone wearing the same coloured shirt. These are basics that any decent Premier League player should be adept at, never mind someone touted as 'world class'.

The other argument that 'he puts a good shift in', also grates. I could run around the pitch for 90 minutes, well maybe a few years ago, but I don't consider myself a 'world-class' footballer. all it proves is he has a lot of stamina. Like I said before, if he wants to be considered one of the top players, he has to bring something more to the table than running around a lot.

Having said all that, an in-form Rooney is still an asset to the club - it just seems that the days he shows this form are getting fewer and fewer.

StevieK

Agree4 Disagree0

If Rooney is sold then we have the perfect replacement in Kagawa. With transfers, a front 4 or RVP, Kagawa, Rodriguez & Valencia would work very well. However I fancy that we would try very hard to get someone like Gotze/Ozil/ or someone of that ilk to replace Rooney. Still think he's going nowhere though. He will be given a one year extension in summer.

Fresh!

Agree0 Disagree2

Fresh, why would he be given a one-year extension and why would he accept that? He will be given a longer extension or will not be offered one at all.

Sydney!

Agree1 Disagree1

Ed004, he has played there many times for Arsenal. He is very tidy outside the box, has a great long shot and would still get in the box.

Sydney! {Ed004's Note - I would just worry he will not be where he is at his best. The only way I'd consider moving him would be if we got someone like Falcao to play up top with him. A predator if you like, someone that will like RVP score every game type of thing. But with RVP do you think he is quick enough and good enough a passer to unlock a defence along with having the stamina and speed to pick up a marker like Rooney occasionally has to do. Rooney usually sits on the other teams playmaker in games}
