I keep reading posts saying " we don't need signings" or " the current team will win the league". Before I continue I'd like to point out I'm a season ticket holder born and bred in openshaw and now living on the isle of man, I'm not scouse or a city fan.

There seems to be an element of pure arrogance on these pages about the current squad. We do need at least 1 more central midfielder. Not just to compete with barca but to retain our crown

Although we all agree the team over at wastelands are all mercenaries, they are finally starting to pull it all together With the additions this summer, tevez possibly staying and the likes of dzeko hitting form, I for one am getting a little concerned.

I see it as pure arrogance for people to believe we will walk the league with the younger lads in the middle. I love the fact that clev is getting game time as he's an excellent prospect. But he couldn't be expected to play most games and would benefit hugely from a player like WS in the team. As for ando, I've flown the flag for a long time and I believe this could be his year

I think we need to realize that strengthening the squad isn't just about competing with barca, it's also keeping our free spending noisy neighbours at bay.

Just my two penny's worth

Eto is off to Russia.. Highest payed footballer in the world 17.5 mill a year fee of 27 milliOn... I reckon this will trigger berbatov plus
Cash swap for SNIDJIER, then they will use the money to get a replacement for SNIDJIER

Sod Nasri. Come on lads, he has gone to City for one thing only and that is the money, similar to the majority of those who don the light blue shirt.

Yes, we would like another CM but lets wait for the one that wants to play for us, first and foremost, rather than finance be the key motivator. Last nights 2nd half was great , young team, 6 English players all running their legs into the ground and gave us a great insight into the future.

Lots to be optimistic about.

haha, Some people on here make me laugh, We're now writing Arsenal off are we? apparently we're going to win by atleast 5 goals according to some of the lads.

Yes they have problems but make no mistake that they're a good side with a good manager who's been in this situation before.

Infact, If i remember correctly the last team we thought we'd beat hands down demolished us in the champions League final.

They may be with out key players but how exactly do we not know that AOC or one of the other kids aren't going to step up and take their chance?

Stop being so arrogant. I'm starting to wonder whether this is the United or City page, some people act just like them in the way they believe they are going to win everything all the time.

Some, no in fact most of the people on here need a reality check. we're a good side playing another good side, both have injury problems, both have managers who have been in this situation before. If we win then great, but if you're writing Arsenal off a week before the game then you're simply an idiot.

Lets be frank guys...this team, by far is good enough to retain the english title...but to overthrow Barca in Europe..we need that fear factor in midfield..that charismatic player who will make the opposition manager tell his players " Watch out for this guy "
I believe carrick/anderson/fletcher/park/valencia/cleverly do not fall under that category..Nani and Young are close but not quite up there...I am not saying it is only one man Sneijder that fill the gap, it could be anybody...just emphasizing the fact that we need another midfielder in our ranks..

Hey ed?

After last nights performance you think united don't need anyone else, the likes of fletcher to come back weather heel b his self it questionable, park can play as the workhorse against bigger teams, I personally dnt think we need SNIDJIER after watching our second half, I can honestly say that's the first time in a few years where united attacked with all 4 midfield players, and our forwards yeah there were some moments where we might have been punished for the amount of space we left for throwing so many Players forward, but to cut a long story short cleverly and Anderson looking good so far early days but looks promising Maybe a more experienced 10-15 million signing is what we need? Some one like arteta? Parker? Or who would you prefer to sign {Ed007's Note - I definitely don't want Arteta or Parker to sign.}

Not sure how true this is but Wilshere has apparently had a recurrence of his ankle injury after AW tried rushing him back for the Udinese game. Djourou & Traore have also been rushed back from muscle injuries as AW has not chosen to keep them out for the mandatory 21 days. With Nasri gone, who will line up against us on the weekend? Could Koscielny return?

_______________Szczesny

Sagna____Koscielny____Vermaelen____Traore

Walcott____Rosicky_____Ramsey____Arshavin

__________Chamakh____Van Persie

There is absolutely nothing left for the bench. I think we should let the kids loose on them next week. Lets see how many limp off in tomorrows game. Arsenal really need to invest in better medical staff.

This transfer window was supposed to be the time when Wenger finally pulls his finger out and gets some business done - keep his squad together and add some experienced players to build an all-conquering side. Instead he's gone and sold two of his best, and still hasn't got himself the players he needs to patch up the blatant weaknesses in his team. What must Wilshere be thinking?

I know I'm not the only admirer of him on this site and so far, the thought of adding him to this United team has just been wishful thinking. But if Arsenal were to fall out of Champions League spots, how long do you think he'd stick around? Not long IMO. I wonder what his preferred move would be? I'd rule out a switch to a London team, and I can't see him moving abroad.

I know it's just if's and but's at the moment but Arsenal are certainly in trouble. RvP, Wilshere, Vermaelen can't be happy.

Great result last night, very entertaining to watch and a lot of excellent performances throughout the team.

De Gea - loved the confidence he showed - dont expect an error or two to undermine his self belief.
Evans - excellent and best I've seen him play for a while - definitely having to raise his game in light of the emergance of Smalling / Jones.

Jones - absolutley love this kid, you can't coach what he has. He is a leader and a winner.

Smalling - gets better and better and right back slot is helping him to develop as a player.

Distribution across and from the back was very good.

Young - could be the buy of the season, looks completely at home in the team - Nani and Valencia will need to kick on to match his contribution.

Wellbeck, Cleverly and Andersen - continuing to grow into their roles.

Rooney almost back to his very best.

Looking forward to Arsenal at the weekend.

De Gea - Lindegaard - Amos

Fabio - Smalling - Jones - Evans - Rafael - Rio - Vidic - Evra

Young - Nani - Park - Valencia - Cleverley - Giggs - Fletcher - Carrick - Anderson - Pogba - Morrison - SNEIJDER?

Rooney - Hernandez - Welbeck - Owen

Next season we could add Wootton & Tunnicliffe to this squad. But wouldn't Sneijder be the icing on the cake?

I got home from the game last night n then watched it again on sky+ just in case i mised anything. I fink it was a bit insulting from Tottenham the way they were obsessed with shooting from 40 yards, if team wanna do that all year then let them, they seem to fink that every long range shot will go in, they probly wudda give us more of a game if they hadnt done that. Then Harry Redknapp had the cheek to say that there was nothing in it til 70 mins? Chances wise we murdered them, if friedel hadnt have had a gud game it cud of been 6 or 7 we cudda scored. I stil fink we lack that cm cos although Anderson was awesome, the first half cleverley was quite quiet. Once he assited Wellbeck tho both of them shone. Wayne Rooney or Anderon was man of the match for me tho. Rooney looks incredible at the moment.

watched the game against spurs yesterday and the second half was really somthing to be proud about i knew given the playing time and freedom to roam around the midfield ando would make a pretty good cm and am really happpy that he scored am thinking maybe if he's lucky he might score up to 7-10 goals this season. i still think berba needs to leave tho i really don't care how much but he adds no fire to the team when he comes on. great to see chica bac and rooney in fine form looking sharp and smalling what can i say when i read that we had bought him i wondered why fergie bought another defender then but i have to say he is one of the youngsters with the highest potential and also i don't think he has lost his place to jones even though jones is great at cb i just think we needed a bit of height for the set pieces. really looking forward to when we play chelsea if we can beat them with our "wonderkids" i have no doubt we would win the league. and all i can say to wenger is.....
...bring on Arsenal

Great win last night, but lets not get too carried away, the first half was not good. On numerous occassions we were out muscled in midfield, Cleverley struggled, Welbeck constantly lost the ball and we looked very lightweight. Nobody could have forseen the second half, not sure what Fergie said but yet again he worked his magic. After the first goal, both Welbeck and Cleverley gained massive confidence and really started to play, great touch by Welbeck for Ando's goal. In the end it was fairly comfortable but for about an hour we were not that good.

There were some very impressive performances; Smalling, just gets better and better, Evans, back to how he was two seasons ago, Jones, looked like a seasoned professional who had played 100s of games, Young, great to watch as he is direct and is always looking to create something, Rooney a constant menace who always wanted the ball and in my opinion the M-o-M was Anderson, back to his best. As I mentioned earlier both Welbeck and Cleverley had a good 20 odd mins, De Gae looked ok, still the odd fumble, but they will all learn.

Good start 6pts out of 6, still plenty of room for improvement, the one thing that never changes is the Fergie factor, we saw it yet again last night at half time.

for all the people still wanting to sell berb i agree money/age wise it makes sense but just out off intrest who would you play in rooneys place when he gets injured or needs a rest, for me it would be berb.
I think welbeck owen chick are playing for one spot and berb is behind rooney for the other.
also whats wrong with having an older experianced player on the bench the way we have with scholes and giggs.
last season when the team was struggling a bit and rooney was spitting his dummy out who was putting the ball in the net ,I think his a handy man to have around.
if we sold him now what would we do with the money

Did anybody else think Rooney was different class. He looks so confident and totally in control. I'm really impressed by him so far this season and if he continues like this he is going to be unstoppable.
Young looks like he is playing with us for years. He is probably guaranteed a place now with Nani and Valencia vying for the other wing.
I agree with everyone about Jones. He is going to be an absolute legend by the time he retires. I actually feel sorry for Smalling. He had good performances last year in the middle and now he is being pushed out. Tough on him but great for united as our central defensive positions have excellent cover.
You have to applaud SAF for keeping with Cleverly and Ando. They are not a strong enough unit yet and there is no way SAF will stick with them against tougher opposition. But they did well and I hope Ando especially keeps up the promising start.
Overall, an excellent second-half performance. Looking forward to the Arsenal game, will SAF revert to an Anderson-Carrick pairing? Will Chico be given a start?

Solid performance. At times we were simply running Spurs off the pitch. Thought the kids played fantastic (Jones, Smalling, Wellbeck) and Rooney is finally starting a season at top form. Young fits the team well, Nani is dangerous but will have to improve his consistency if he is to keep Valencia out of the side week in week out. Cleverly shows flashes of brilliance, but tends to fade out of the game for periods of time. Good on the counter attack, willing to tackle and track back. But the player Im most excited about is Anderson. I admit, Ive been a fan of his since he arrived and felt fans gave him a rough go of it. He's still young, and he's finally found a balance between defense and attack, something he struggled with in the switch of leagues. He's physical, fast and when willing, can really attack a defense with his runs through midfield. He seems to have finally figured out which direction the goal is, and is scoring pretty regularly now. One touch football between him and Rooney is deadly, and he's going to score a bunch and set up many more this season.

We have looked great in the last couple of matches. We have got the spark that we lacked most of last season and we look like we are back to our best. I still believe Sneijder must join us so we can reach the next level and become even stronger though.

At the risk of sounding like an over-excited child...

BRING ON BARCELONA.

On a serious note though, the 'future' seems to have already arrived and demanded it's place in the present. These lads look hungry, they look technically able, we have seen them show spirit against City, we have seen them tear apart Tottenham in the second half. It's still early days and the real real tests are still to come but there is plenty to be optimistic about, and I feel like a giddy schoolgirl, and by the looks of it so does Sir Alex.

Nice to see De Gea hold on to a few of those long range efforts and show a bit of confidence taking on players and not afraid to get up and have a pop at Defoe ;)

Also congrats to Ando for one of the worst celebrations I have ever seen, but it didn't half put a smile on my face :)

Really buzzing. Just finished watching the game.. Fantastic. If the first half was for the moaners though it wasn't a knightmare the second was for those who have always believed in the youth. Well done cleverly, young anderson and welbeck for living up to that belief, smalling jones transition what transition? playing like they been here for years. Rooney looking good got sharper as the game went on, evans evra nani decent games de gea jury still out but he'll get there. On the whole very good showing. Constantine Red
