For fear of being branded MOTD fever, you have to admire the debut of sissoko. Dear me what a start, I'm no Ashley cole fan but he is very quick and sissoko made him look as slow as mad paddy. Popped up on both flanks, pace, eye for goal big, imposing, powerful, I'm not saying he should be our next signing but reckon he'll be great to watch for the rest of the season.

I'm slightly surprised none of the bigger teams were in for him. A couple of years ago there seemed to be a lot of interest in the lad from all of the Premier Leagues 'big' teams and, although his form hasn't been quite as good for the last 18 months, I would've thought one of the teams pushing for Europe might have taken a look.
TK-Red {Ed002's Note - Monaco, Wolfsburg, Marseille, Juventus, QPR, Aston Villa, Newcastle, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow and Spurs enquired.}

Some high profile clubs in there Ed002. I'm surprised that a few more PL clubs didn't enquire at the price he was going for. He seems to fit the bill in terms of what United and Arsenal seem to be missing. Reports say he went to Newcastle for around a £2million transfer fee. Was that the going rate or is it likely that other clubs were given different valuations?
TK-Red {Ed002's Note - His contract was up in the summer and it was a case of agreeing terms that suited the player and Toulouse. Juventus and Newcastle reached such an agreement with Toulouse - other clubs (including Newcastle initially) were looking for a pre-contract agreement to take him in the summer.}

I sincerely hope we sign him in a year or two. He tore Chelsea to bits yesterday, and if we wait till he is used to the English game.

Hi Guys
What a great result that could turn out to be. The pressure is now on City tomorrow. It will be a strange feeling cheering on the Scousers tomorrow but its only for 90 minutes.
To todays game. Once again I thought Michael Carrick was excellent especially in the first half. Yet again David De Gea showed what a great shot stopper he is and I truely believe he will turn into a world class keeper in time and I hope SAF sticks with him. Wayne Rooney showed that class is permanent and took his goal superbly as well as working his socks off.
On the downside Nani was useless, Johnny Evans and Tom Cleverley were disappointing. That was RVP's least effective game going forward but still cleared one off the line to keep our lead.
All in all a very good 3 points, we just need to keep chalking the games off.
Come on you REDS

I stopped reading as soon as you said Jonny evans was disappointing.
Mate you need to analyse the game better. Or maybe I was watching a different game
I think Evans was class. won balls in air, tackles. Rvp helped around too. He was playing a different role today, was mostly playing deep and helping out in midlfield. If it wasnt for him to do an goal line clearance we would've been 8 Points ahead!.

I agree with most except jonny Evans being disappointing, tell me one thing he did wrong all match and I will agree with you. I am pretty sure you will struggle, he was immense, calm on the ball and it was our best defensive performance of the season (all without what most would say are our 2 best centre halves vidic and smalling).
GDS

Evans was immense in the 2nd half, especially late when defending the lead.
Agree8

Bazza, that was a very poor summary mate. RvP cleared the ball off the line and was all over the pitch working hard. Nani looked a threat in the first half and I would be happy for him to play against Everton if he could equal that form. Jonny Evans was a beast yesterday and Cleverley never put a foot wrong all game. He lost the ball once the whole time he was on the field and he moved the ball around well. It was only when he went off that the midfield capitulated and the Fulham onslaught commenced just like it did at Southampton. Carrick and Cleverley both sat deep last night, when Rooney isn't playing and Cleverley or Ando are asked to push forward they usually come up with a goal, but Anderson played deep at Southampton and Cleverley played deep at Fulham. What do people expect of a player sitting deep? Does Carrick get many goals a season? What about Scholes when he moved back into that quarterback position? Anderson and Cleverley both look better in a more advanced role, but with Rooney playing they are not needed there.

Rooney was awful. So what if he scored today, we should sell him for 50mil and buy. (fill in striker (s) of your choice) as he is useless.
De Gea was poor and should have been moved in the January. So what if he made some excellent saves today? That was just one off. He will be back to his old self spilling saves like Cech did today (tho no one will notice because its not. De Gea) and he will never be perfect in goal as Joe Hart. ask Adam Johnson.
Rant over, I hope you all had a nerve thumping day. God knows I did.

I agree that the standard of the EPL has dipped a bit in the last four or five years but in my opinion nothing beats the entertainment value of the Premier League, you only have to look at the climax to last year to see how great it really is.
But it does make me laugh how you would sooner criticise the league than your own team. Remember you are currently sitting seventh in this so called 'average league'.

02 Feb 2013 20:01:23
What did we learn from the midweek game against Southampton well looking at tonight absolutely nothing. Once again we fell back to the edge of our area and invited a team on to attack us. At the end of the game we were just swinging feet at the ball and trying to head it anywhere. Mad Paddy just went on walk about for the last ten minutes and made sure that every time they attacked down the right they were able to get a ball into the box. Rooney scored a great goal and had a great effort onto the post I just wish he would show us more. The Brand was just invisible he did nothing but play square balls. Nani I just want to punch he is so frustrating. We are just so frustrating in the second half of games. Why don't we close teams down and not invite them on. Most worrying with the Madrid game coming up is the form of our wingers if we play like we did today or last week against Madrid we will get slaughtered. Still its Saturday night and we are in a good position not having to beat Liverpool just to stay in touch. I AM KLOOT
Believable9
Unbelievable8
Not going to disagree KLOOT. but we should have scored a few more to avoid all the pressure. I thought it was a great game, Nani was his usual infuriating self and I agree that Cleverley added little. With a very strong CM and a quality winger we do have a team/squad with real talent and enormous potential.
AJH
Agree0

Kloot - we will get murdered by Madrid. Think most who can see our lack of guile/steel/class in midfield now will put paid to our chances in Europe as it did last year. The fact we are dominating the Premiership just means the league is getting weaker.
Yes we look great going forward but in all honesty we are a world class central defender and world class centre mid short now. And have been for ages lol.
Appreciate a few won't agree with that assessment but when you take off your red-tinted glasses you'll realise being on top of the Prem - as fabulous as it is - is just being the best of a bad bunch.
I do hope I'm wrong. But I can't see us beating Real in either game. Both teams will score and we'll gift them a goal which will be decisive is my view. We can afford to that against weaker Prem opposition but I fear we will get hammered in Europe.
Halesini
Agree3

Are any of you watching Madrid play right now? I bet you their fans are saying the same thing about their team as you lot are saying about our team. You think their defense is better than ours? They have a better midfield than us and the rest is even. We have the second leg at home so let's see what happens. You guys don't need to watch because according to you we have no chance.

If we are going to quote the late great Sir Garfield Sobers at least get it right:
form is good and bad, class is permanent ;)
Rooney is a talent for sure. I'm less sure whether he's one that will be with United longer term though ( I hope I'm wrong).
Signing Van Persie was a masterstroke by Fergie. Not just because he's been an instant hit and a shue-in to be Player of the Year and prob Prem Topscorer again. More importantly though Fergie's forward 'chess move' in signing RVP was for when Rooney plays up next time in contract negotiations. Next time Rooney wants to re-negotiate his contract and get another £50k pw etc 2 things will happen:
1 - United will play hardball over the negotiations as they don't 'need' to keep him - i. e. RVP can fulfill his striking role.
2 - The finances will stack up against Rooney, i. e. sell now (summer 13 or 14?) and make say £60m or commit club to further £60m (5yr at £250k pw) deal.
I'm a big Rooney fan but I'm not convinced he will be in a United shirt next season or certainly not one after that.
I hope I'm wrong.
Halesini
Agree6

Tomahto tomayto or is it the other way around : P
yes I felt rooney held the club to ransom with his contract negotiations a few years ago and he hasn't been playing particurlary well first half of the season, but you can't deny he gives his all on the pitch and these last 2 games could be the differnce at the end of the season.
he is one of those quality players you need in a team, he plays anywhere he's told and never moans about being played out of position even after scoring 30 odd goals in a season
im a rooney fan and I hope he's back to his best for the run in to this season.
its a tough one tomorrow to actually want the real enemy to win. I have a feeling they will

Such an important win. Rooney stepped up when he was needed and RVP made a very important clearance off the line as did Rafael. We did great to hang in there at the end and De Gea looked very solid.

He can't as there seems to be a similar script with young Tom. He seems to go missing in the last 30 minutes specially when other teams start applying pressure as our usual tendency is to sit deeper and deeper and try and soak it up. I am in the undecided camp on him and let's give him another.
I loved the way we won a tough away game and yes was sitting on the edge of the sofa and praying we hold out. Rio and Evans were very good at the back I thought and glad he is looking to stay as whilst he does not have the pace he used to, he is definitely a big game player. BTW Varrane reminds me of a young Rio.
I am starting to question how guys like Welbeck fit into this team and what is he good at. If he is a good late sub for his defending, I would rather throw a CM on, that can hold the ball up and pass. God knows he can't score.

We played relativly well in an eventful half. Unfortunatly, the closing down has been abmisal and too many players were caught ball watching.
We missed our fair share of chances, but respect to Fullham who have been playing very well. Hope this is not one of those days that whatever we do we seem unable to score and its not going our way.
Nani has shown both sides of his game ( extreme lack of composure and intelligence, but does not lack in the quality of the build up ), while Valencia seems to be guetting some confidence back, and has been very good defensivly especially with closing down and gaining the ball back. Hopefully a sign of things to come

Just by watching him you can tell. He's always put out wide but he is still so efficient with the ball, rarely gives it away and always makes himself available for a pass. Rooney is a good striker and at times can play a lovely long pass, but the majority of the time he is wasteful when passing and IMO is not cute or clever enough to split a defence with a pass. This is just my opinion though.

I don't mind streaming. If you just search the internet for a while you can always find one which is perfectly good to watch. . I always use firstrow but usagoals is okay. . If you ask one of the Ed's I believe it may be Bond? They watch football via a Google extension and they said its great. {Ed007's Note - This is a copy/paste from my laptop notepad so I hope it still works:
1. Install the browser Google Chrome.
2. Look in the top right (your right) corner and you will see a spanner.
3. Click on the spanner and select 'tools'.
4. Click on extensions
5. At the bottom right (as you look at it) you will see 'Get More Extensions >>'. Select this.
6. In the search box type 'Chrome Live Football' and search.
7. Click on Chrome Live Football and then click on install. (it may download to a holding file in the bottom left as you look at it, in which case as soon as it's finished click there, but mostly it will install itself)
8. A small football will then appear in the top right (as you look at it). Click on that, select 'live stream' and reset the clock to GMT and it will list all the live games available all over europe and other places.
You may occasionally need to install other programmes or the link you pick will only work on Explorer (in which case cut and paste the URL into Explorer), but you will always get every EPL match (or any other). Sometimes you will only be able to find it with foreign commentary and sometimes you will get it in English. You'll get about thirty links and you may have to look through a lot of them to get what you want. You will also get most La Liga matches, Greek matches, Italian matches and French matches as well as top matches from South America.
Someone also asked about viruses etc. Google Chrome is actually far more secure than Internet Explorer so the risks are considerably less, but you should have decent virus/spyware programmes and run sweeps regularly as a matter of course.
The quality will also depend on the speed of your internet connection. If you have super-speed and have a modern HD TV, consider connecting your PC to the TV via the PC socket on the side/ back.
Cut and paste the above into a document and save it for future reference.

RFT in terms of Rafael and Nani it is the not The. They aren't nicknames. Its not like Luis Carlos 'The Cunha' Almeida or Rafael 'The Silva' Pereira.

Eds do you have a chav filter on this? My last post read "D-A instead of the" (I double checked it before I posted). It would also explain the change on RFT's post to be fair.

Another window has closed without a central midfield option being purchased. However, the fault was in the last few windows where SAF has consistently failed to resolve this and January is not the best month to do it.
One criticism I will make of the club is that unless I missed him signing a new one Nani will, in summer, be in the final year of his contract. His value will be notably reduced and we have done what many heavily criticised Arsenal for and let him get to the final year. If we had done nothing else in January we should have shifted him out and it appears he will run his contract down costing the club a fortune. I wonder if all those Nani supporters will think differently of him if he does that. Not selling Nani this window is a mistake.
Lastly where are our young wingers up to, Barmby for example? Also I am most interested in how Dimitri Mitchell is progressing?
I am offline for the next 24 hours but am interested in responses on Mitchell

you know full well we wouldn't sign anyone in january. We only sign in january if someone else goes for a target. Which top class midfielder were you expecting to sign in january? Being as top class players are cup tied, and expensive. As for nani who was going to buy him? Why pay out now when you can wait six months and pay less.

You ask what the Nani supporters will think and almost imply it would be Nani's doing. If he wants to stay and SAF won't offer him a new contract then why should he leave and join any old club just so we can get a fee. Its the lads career so he is entitled to do what's best for him. For all his inconsistency, I'm not sure how anyone could think less of him for wanting to stay at the club.

If Nani doesn't sign a new contract or leave in the summer I can see him honouring his contract & leaving on a free. A potential 17m down the drain.
17m return would give us one of Garay, Strootman or Lewandowski which we are heavily linked with.

I must say I'm both happy and sad to see Super Mario leave for Italy.
On his day and when on form he is absolutely terrifying; but it's always great to pick up the paper and read about his latest antics (public and within City).

I think 'terrifying', is a massive over exaggeration. He was 'OK' at times, the rest he just lumbered around and dived in with his studs. The only thing i'll miss, is him disrupting the City dressing room and his off-field antics. Entertainment value he was great. But Terrifying he is not.

Never got it. To compare him to Eric as some people did was ridiculous. He was miserable, disruptive and often looked disinterested.
Fair play to him for sharing his money around but as a player I thought he was massively overrated.

I am a hugs fan of DDG and in favour of giving him at least ONE MORE season but in the game against SOUTHAMPTON I think he could have done a LOT LOT BETTER than what he did.
He didn't do anything. a striker should pi$$ his pants when he sees a goalkeeper running towards him that never happens with DDG and he needs to improve quickly.

I don't normally like to dwell on things however. I see Lucas Moura has started well for PSG had a great game tonight.

So why dwell on it? I'm already fed up with the 'Pogba had a good game' bandwagon, lets not startba Moura one. It is what it is, let's support our team and move on. If it was a choice between Moura or RVP, I'm glad we got RVP.

His loss like Benzema if he'd joined Utd under Sir Alex, s watch would have become a challenger for B, all on dor (spelling) also would of propelled us to our destiny that bit quicker. Hope zaha can develop and fulfill his huge potential.

Having seen plenty of Kenji over a couple of years he very rarely starts the games for the under 18s and when you look at Perriera Daehli Januzaj and even Jack Barmby you can see why
