The more i look at our squad and the players we have the more i seem to think that all we need is a tweak to evolve the team into a great team again.

I think we need to move from a 4411 to a more solid pocession based 4231. With 4411 you need good wingers but it means your playing with two wingers and at least one striker all of whom will not be great at keeping the ball due to the nature of their game, wingers have to cross the ball and strikers have to shoot both of which if not don't prefectly will result in losing possession and even when it is done perfectly you don't always get a positive out come. We need to learn to keep the ball and add variation to our play. We need to have more clever thinking players. So here's what i feel we need to do.

Goalkeepers need no work, we have three very good goalkeepers who'll only get better.

Defense, Every man and his dog can tell you that Evra has had his day but what to do about it? We have Fabio(if he can stay fit) and Fryers coming through with Blackett a year or two younger again so if we sign someone they'll block the younger players so we need a stop gap for a year or two. I know this won't be popular but how about we keep Evra for another year then see how things are then, give more game time to Fryers and Fabio and not waste time and money bringing in a player who may or may not be better than Evra for a stop gap solutuion. The only other option is to spend a significant amount of our budget on a new left back who would block the youngsters and take a chunk of money away from where it needs to be spent.

Midfield, we have Carrick Fletcher Cleverley Anderson Scholes Tunnicliffe all vying for two spots. Thats only two of that list are over thirty and two are injury concerns and the other two are the future of our midfield. I've left Pogba off as i feel he will move on in the summer. If he Stays then there really is no need to sign someone as our midfield will improve organically. If he leaves as expected then the player i'd go for would be Granit Xhaka, the midfield two will need to be creative and combative, they need to be great passers and workers. Thats why i feel Xhaka would be perfect along side Cleverley.

Now the front four is where this gets interesting. I don't feel we need a striker as we have Rooney Welbeck and Hernandez for what will effectively be one slot. I think Rooney needs to be pushed forward so we have a truely world class front man and i feel we rely too heavily on him when he plays in the hole. So thats Rooney as first choice with Welbeck and Hernandez as back up. Now Sir Alex does like to have four strikers and i think in a years time that forth spot should be Will Keane's but in the mean time how about we keep Berbatov as cover? we wouldn't get much for him if we sell him as he'd be in the last year of his contract and it'd leave us a little light up top. So it's best to extend his stay for another year then let W.Keane take his place the following summer when he's ready to step up. With Rooney playing up top then we need someone to play in the hole and i feel the best player for that is Shinji Kagawa, his movement vision and goal record set him apart from the other candidates. We have Valencia to play on the right as first choice but it's the left that concerns me. Both Nani and Young are inconsistant, Nani looks better on the right but is second choice behind Valencia so IF we can get a very good option on the left then do we need Nani? If we sold Nani and replaced him with Gaitan would that be good business? I think it would, Nani when on form can carry the team but when he's not then the team have to carry him, he's on form for maybe 3 out of every 10 matches. I also think we need to move away from relying individuals winning us games and more on the team winning us games and Nani just isn't a team player enough of the time.
Gaitan would give us a good balance with Valencia on the other side one being a more traditional winger the other being able to cut inside and work their way into the middle.

If we did this then in a couple of years time the team would look like this:

___________DDG
Rafael_Smalling_Vidic_Fryers
_____Cleverley_Xhaka
_Valencia_Kagawa_Gaitan
_________Rooney

Bench; Lindegaard, Fabio, Jones, Tunnicliffe, Young, Welbeck, Hernandez

That looks like a very talented flexible squad who could beat anyone and it's been achieved with just three signings.

Granit Xhaka, Shinji Kagawa and Nicolas Gaitan would cost 50-55m but with the sales of Nani Park and Macheda we should hope to recoupe between 30-35m making a spend of between 20-25m which is well within our budget.

Didn't Arsenal do well? Regardless of the referee essentially being a Milan supporter, Arsenal pulled off a heroic fightback. They just needed a little bit of United in them and they'd be on their way the the Quarters.

The Telegraph
Sir Alex Ferguson is understood to be furious with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and his representatives after the French teenager rejected a contract offer in favour a £1 million-a-year deal at Juventus

A point about this, if true, Pogba has agreed a £1M a year deal , around or just under £20K a week. How little were we offering him if he took that offer?

Our youth policy is in tatters, I watched Fryers for the first 45 minutes tonight and his head did not look to be on it.

But dont worry we will increase Nanis pay by more per week than we would have paid Pogba. More inconsistency and frustration peppered with the occasional good performance and being hailed as good as Ronaldo. In fact we havent had a good performance from Nani in some time so we are due a good one on Sunday against the mighty West Brom.

All the while our youth is bleeding from the club at the same time we were told we were not buying as we had such strong young players as Morrison and Pogba. Yet still many on here cannot see this.

It's a shame we missed out on the Ox. Quality player even at his tender age. Why can't SAF see that Pogba, if he was given the chance (and the contract), could have the same effect for us!

Rooting for Arsenal tonight and have been very impressed, the way they have come out of the block has been excellent and showing a real desire they just need to keep there defence sorted and not let in any goals and they may just pull this of, a great spectacle and great for english football. P.s im absolutely fuming, was trying to put a tenner on arsenal to qualify but my new samsung galaxy s2 dicked me about so i figured at the time it may of just saved me a tenner, though that is not my mindset now lol.

''Do you know that no team in the Premiership has passed the ball backwards as much as us''... Thats probably the dumbest and most pointless thing ive ever seen on this site, dbr7....................Well dbr7 you are either very thick or new to football. It means that we are playing very negative football and makes it very easy for teams to press up on us. It is not the Manchester United way. Is that explained simply for you .......I AM KLOOT

I have to say I for one have not been overly impressed with Nani this season there is no denying he has blown hot and cold but I found it interesting to see that he has scored more goals in EPL than Silva and he is also into double figures for assists and I would not be surprised to see him go on one his bursts now where he blows teams away racks up a few more goals and a bag load of assists...I think he is due a run like that watch out West Brom.

I just thought I'd give my take on a few things...

_The Spurs Game_

I thought the game was very entertaining, some great stuff from spurs early on and some great stuff from us throughout the game. I thought spurs really missed a chance to put the ball in the net, if they told lennon to overlap Walker and work together I think Evra would have just died.

Quite pleased with all the lads, I'm not going to jump on the Young bandwagon, he looks as if he's up to the challenge but he's barely played half a season of full games, so I'll give him a while before I make a judgement.

_Pogba's contract/Juve_

well, this boy is doing my head in. A few posters are saying it's all his agent but I really don't think it is, well it's probably around 80/20 in the agents favour. I genuinely think he wants to leave and if that's what he wants then grant him his wish, he may very well turn out to be the best CM in the world, we may be seeing the next Zidane/Keane hybrid, or we might be seeing the Abou Diaby...regardless of what he could be I don't think he deserves anything near 32K per week when quite simply he hasn't done anything. I hope and I think Sir Alex will stick to his guns like he did with Ravel on this one, if we give Pogba is £30+K per week deal then what would stop players like Petrucci, Lingard, Keane, Cole, Fryers, etc. demanding it, what would stop players like Blackett, Johnstone, etc. of the younger youth demanding £25K per week? nothing.

Let Pogba go, and if he does I'll wish him well, I don't like to see players fail. but if he goes, then well it gives a clearer pathway for who I believe is the pick of the bunch in Tunners, so forget get Pogba, forget his potential. All we need to remember is that we had a 19 year old BOY demanding the sorts of money that players in the championship and bottom half premier league teams struggle to get on and quite frankly I think he should be ashamed of his demands. never the less if he stays then good, if he goes then good luck.

I thought this made a good read btw lads.. www.therepublikofmancunia.com/princess-pogba-and-arduous-agents/

_Nani's Contract_

Erm, I understand why he's been given his contract, as per usual we've got posters who are jumping on the lets hate Nani bandwagon because he hasn't played to his ability this season. well let's look at things from a wide prospective, let's say since Ronaldo left...Nani has stood up to the plate the majority of the time, he's shown he's capable of this Ronaldo moments, although not as frequent as Ronaldo has them. but he's a game changing player, He's got drive, determination, he spends hours after training practicing, he's got bags of ability and the only thing missing from his game is the consistency something that takes time to get. I don't think he'll hit the Ronaldo level but I do think he'll hit similar levels to what players like Villa, Robben, Ibrahimovic, Lampard, Gerrard, etc. are at/ have been at. he won't ever be THE man but he'll always be the level under.

so with all of that in mind, to hand the lad a contract in the £90K region in my opinion is a great but of business, he deserves it, he's never once spoke about wanting to leave and he's never kicked up a fuss about anything major. I think it's only fair we repay is loyalty with giving him an improved contract which quite frankly he's worth.

_The squad_

GK: I think we're more than fine here with De Gea, Lindegaard and Amos.

RB: Jones, Smalling, Fabio and Rafael are all fighting it out for a place at RB, then you've got players like Valencia and Cleverley to be the last resort back up so again, I think we're fine.

LB - I've said multiple times that I like the look of both Baines and Aly Cissohko, I'm not sure that both are better defensively so i'd rather keep hold of Evra and slowly start to expose Fryers and Fabio with giving Blackett the Carling Cup games. not to mention Evans can cover LB if need be.

Realistically we've got Evra, Fabio and Fryers as teh contending Left backs, then we've got Blackett making a push to be noticed after that we've got last resort players such as Evans, Park, Giggs and Cleverley who can all play at LB so I doubt we'll see anyone signed.

CB - Rio, Evans, Vidic, Smalling and Jones are first choice then you've got the likes of Fryers, the lad we nicked from City, etc. maybe looking to shock a few people, then if worst comes to worst we've got Carrick, Fletcher and Berbatov who can and will fill in.

RW - Valencia and Nani are obviously the first choice wingers, we've got cover in areas with the likes of Park, Young, Anderson, Rooney, Welbeck, Cleverley and Fletcher all being able to put in a shift, plus the possibility of one of the twins covering out there too, so again I don't see much need for reinforcements.

LW - Young and Nani are the boys for this side of the pitch and we've also got players like Cleverley, Brady, Welbeck, Rooney, Fabio, Anderson, etc. who will cover there, so again I don't see a purchase out wide.

CM - Cleverley, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Anderson, Jones, Giggs and Scholes all being a Centre Midfielders at the club, now if we need fill in players then Rooney is more than capable as is Young to drop run the show. so although I would like some improved quality in terms of depth I think we're okay. Then we've got Pogba (?), Tunners, etc. all looking to stake a claim in the next year or so.

FW - Welbeck, Rooney, Hernandez, Macheda, Berbatov and Owen are all the regular lads looking to start games, but you've also got players like Nani, Young, Park and Giggs who can also do a job up top. plus we've got the likes of Keane who are looking to get some attention.

Now to me, that seems like we've got a lot of cover with a lot of up and coming lads all looking to be in or around the 11 positions we've got available, obviously some players will leave over the summer but even still we look to have a lot of strength.

If I were Sir Alex I would look to make a few additions that give us a little more variation around the team.

I think the back 4 is currently fine and we've got a decent amount of players in there.

The Midfield is the one that get's touted and I do think we need somebody to take over from Scholes, just someone to sit back and pull the strings, most people would say Modric and I 100% agree, however my problem is that I see our future being Cleverley/Anderson and Tunners/Jones as our CM pairing therefore if we're going to look at someone to sit and control then I think we should look at the older market, not too old but possibly someone around the age of 27/28 who wouldn't mind slowly becoming a squad player, who would that player be? well I honestly don't know, I absolutely love Aimar but he's way, way, to old. if not an older player then somebody who wouldn't mind playing parts here and there, for example I really like Joe Allen, he reminds me of Carrick at spurs so I would consider him, but at the same time I wouldn't want another inexperienced player. It's a tough call but I couldn't really suggest anyone off the top of my head.

I think we're fine with a CDM/B2B player with the likes of Fletcher, Tunners and Jones all being able to play that role very well.

I would like a Left footed winger like Bale but I'm contempt with what we have, I quite like Pedro at Barca and I'm a huge fan of Elia although I think he's a slightly better Walcott so I wouldn't have him at United. I think Bale or Podolski would be my top options with Podolski being able to operate in a similar fashion to Rooney with his link up play.

on the Right, Another lad to cover wouldn't be a bad thing, I wouldn't mind Hoilett but we're not screaming out for a Right Midfielder so I would only look to bring one in if the offer was to good to turn down.

Now, up top is where I would buy another player, Although Berbatov and Welbeck can hold the ball up, and Rooney and Hernandez can head the ball we haven't really got a 'big' demanding forward for the scruffy games, there aren't many around anymore..I think the perfect player would be someone like Higuain and he can finish brilliantly, I thought Lukaku would have been a great should last year also.

So, I wouldn't really know who exactly I would want but in terms of players I think we need either to bridge or to add another dimension I would look at a;

Strong big CF, A deep lying CM to pull the strings and possible a left footed LW like Podolski or Pedro (I know he's right footed but he's very good on his left).

Sorry for the long post, I hope you've all had a good weekend and start to the week.

And just as a pre-caution in case he feels the need to post, "Tel 1949 - Shut up."

this is for every one , expect - I AM ALOOF.
there is a slight danger i see with your young player jones , you will need to , i think get him a settled position where he will play , he looks a little lost at full back , and i think its either midfield or centre back , there is a danger he could turn out to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.
ps, if you see any silly posts using my name , you will know its not me , ie - anderson will come good or scholes can play every match , etc etc................lfc

I suppose the good thing about Pogba's possible exit is that SAF will have to look into buying a replacement.

He has been on the bench a fair few times this season, and this might mean that we buy in some talent.

I wouldn't mind this happening..

In the summer window, apart from the players we signed, who else were we allegidly interested in? The main two positions were a defender and also an attacking midfielder.

Does this point to us possibly being in for a similar summer in which we go for an attacking midfielder and a defender. If we are to move towards a more Barcelona style of play, then perhaps SAF is planning on sacrificing a striker in some games (obviously not all). If we play with an attacking midfielder with Rooney in front of him we automatically have a world class striker.

I also think that SAF is keen not to intrude on the development of the likes of Anderson, Cleverly and soon to be Tunnicliffe amongst others. So we may leave central midfield put for now as we have a lot of players that can play there.

Playing with an attacking midfielder would give us much more manouverability which we see a lot with the top teams such as Barcelona and Madrid. Whilst we will not buy stars to facilitate this change, i do feel that we could bring in young players with ability to develop into a great team within a couple of years.

That is one reason why i am so interested in watching the Bilbao match as the usual suspects (Ozil, Sneijder, Hazard etc) can all be forgot about as i don't think we will even entertain the idea of getting into a bidding war. So a less coveted player such as Muniain who would fit the tole perfectly and is also left footed may fit the bill well. If he performs well then he may become a major transfer target of ours, even though he is from the tough negotiating Bilbao. A while back Spanish agents touted him to join us for his 'big move' and i think it makes sense. Bilbao will no doubt say the price is something like 40 million euros, but i think we can get that closer to £20-25 million which would make perfect financial sense.

Why do people persist with this negative attitude towards the club. its funny how when sydeny talks finance we condem him, yet countless individuals come on and blast the owners time and time again. i never knew that the majority of the followers on here were running hugely succesful companies, which hold the title of the 6th biggest brand in the world.
football is football what happens on the pitch is what really matters. we can assume what we like, but no-one apart from the people in the club know whats happening at the top. they release the information they want to, so lets stop worrying about the club. over the last 6 years we have been hugely succesful, we are blessed with the trophies we won and the players we have seen.
we must understand that all good things come to an end and sadly Ferguson is no different, this period of time is getting ready for his move up stairs (on the board, of course, not the other thing). lets enjoy the glory we have still got left with him.
on the youth it is a difficult subject. we all know the role agents have on players career. there should only be one club agent for all the youth until they sign their first major contract. i am an avid follower of the reserves and i have to say its probably the best set of youngsters around. however that does not warrant the wage demands they are asking for. we can claim the youth is amazing and should be starting in the first team, but if that was the case wouldn't we all be managers. none of us are round the players on a daily basis. Is pogba really eager to be at the club, because if i was youngster at the club and i was in pogbas situation, even if i was told i was part of the plans i would be looking for every first team chance i had, and if meant knocking on the door to ask to go on loan i would do so, even if i you were knocked back, it would show your eagerness to play. which i am sure alex ferguson would reward.
Juve, the great club that was demoted because of illegal actions a few seasons ago, can throw all the money they want. italy is a poor and boring league, that only has the traditions of its team keeping interest.
lets enjoy are football guys, if we play bad its because of the players on the pitch, not the actions behind the scenes. if the players are being paid then they have the obligation to perform on pitch.

Nani is allegedly according to the Times about to sign a new improved contract.

This is Nani who has frankly been poor in most of his games, what has he really done to deserve this?

Let us then contrast to Pogba who has played well in the reserves, made a good positive debut in the first team.

Sydney tells us SAF is being stubborn with Pogba and Fryers, well why is he not being stubborn with Nani then?

Now what might be the difference between Pogba and Nani, the agent perhaps? Please correct me but is Nani's agent Mendes? Why should that make a difference?

dear sirs
big players do not want to come to our club
the youngsters do not want to stay
we are re-signing our late 30s players every year
the huge debt is weighing heavy on our heads
our midfield is non existant 90% of games the last 3 seasons
yet, we cant find a single decent midfield player to sign as everyone is "no value"

only good thing is that LADY LUCK continues to smile on us...
