Se, after hearing that only 7 players are adamantly not for sale at Barcelona. Should we be considering Thiago Alcantara again? Might be time to make the swoop, would be a very good player for us. Just an idea, any idea of any interest from us or a possible price?

reading guillem balaques column on sky sports, interesting to read that llorentes contract will be up next year. I could see him being a good player for us but my only concern would be that he would not bring the pace that fergie seems to want in the future. however surely the chances of him leaving and for less than previously quoted has increased.

The wages for De Gea, Jones and Young were financed to a large extent by considerable savings made from the release of Paul Scholes for half a season, Gary Neville, Edwin van der Sar and Owen Hargreaves, each of whom earned around £4m a year.

Then the sale of Oshea, Brown, Obertan and Cory Evans brought in £10m.

Basically last summer was not as painful as it shoud or could have been on the bank account and shows us what may happen this summer.

I just want to reiterate what I saw in Scholes last weekend, it looked like his legs had gone and there appeared to be recognition of that on his face when he went off. SAF may struggle to persuade Scholes to do another season

Rodwell,de Marcos and modric are Fergies 3 targets.
Anderson is a concern to Sir Alex needs a good pre season to convince him worth persevering, cleverly very highly rated by all at carrington and will play big roll in our success next season.
Don't panic us and city will dominate for next 4 seasons until it implodes at the ethiad !!

The players we sign have to be top quality&taking a place in the starting line up not more just a squad player, think we've done well to be even taking it to last match compaired with squads but I think europe this year showed Utd are least 3 players short on top quality,Fergie said many times Utd should be winning more champ leagues as of who Utd are, think this summer we will really see what Utd finances are as there's no hiding now, fergies worked his magic over last few years with weaker squads now he needs the big money, some will say money spent last year but don't think works out that much on glazers net spent since took over

A lot of promo stuff is coming out for for United's Pre-Season tour. The Norwegian game has been announced to be the last.
Parks face seems to be paraded around the most, it seems that we'll be heading to Asia first with surely a depleted squad cause of Euros & Olympics. So my guess is Evra & Park the best buddies will be here another season at least.

Be like 2 new signings if they both find form of 2 seasons ago. Ha ha!

To be honest it seems obvious Evra is staying he is vice captain, plays nearly every game and Fabio is off on loan and also Fryers has been mentioned about going on loan.

Park has surprised me, if Kagawa comes in and maybe even Gaitan I can't see him getting a game at all. Though he did mention in an interview he's probably got one more good season at Man United. He never seems to be the kind to complain about game time.

One last hooray! For these players then.

This summer is likely to be a mixture of youth players, bargains and maybe one big spend. The likely big spend targets are Hazard and Modric. Furthermore we all probably expect Kagawa to come in, so the question is, woudl you rather have Kagawa and Modric, or Kagawa and Hazard?

I think it is a very difficult choice, both options would improve the squad. I am a big fan of Hazard though and the thought of having Rooney, Kagawa and Hazard playing for us is an excellent thought.

All this talk of players is all well and good but I just wonder what sort of things do players consider (apart from money) when joining a club.
History?
Medals?
Champions league?
Manager?

If we compare Utd vs City then I think we can say Utd win on history, draw on champions league, draw on medals as I would say if we looked at history on medals then obviously Utd win, but on future medals its 50/50. So then there is manager.......SAF is a world leader as a manager so you would think we clearly win....but I am thinking how long will SAF go on? If its only a few yearsm then SAF may not have the advantage of him being a draw to the club. Not that i'm saying Mancini is a draw to City in anyway as they are likely to do a Chelsea and sack their manager at a whim.

So for me its.....
History - UTD
Medals - DRAW
Manager - SLIGHTLY UTD
Champions League - DRAW

but then MONEY - CITY CITY CITY

My point is (I am getting to one) that we need to try and win more of the above and the only thing we can really effect is MANAGER.
Who has a bigger draw as a manager and knows how to win, has a proven record.......Only one man MOURINHO!

I think he must take over when SAF goes. MOURINHO has won the league in England, Italy and now Spain, won the champions league.....what is his only big test in football? follow SAF.

Lets just hope this happens in the future.

City is more powerful economically than UNITED, fact!
Doesn't mean they will get all the players because of it, we must have arguments other than money to try to convince the target, if doesn't want, whatever.

We may be looking for Hazard but he may choose City ahead of us, so, guys who do you think would be a very good plan B!? I don't know exactly in which position SAF is planning for Hazard, bt an alternative, for me would be Younes Belhanda, young, great technic and maybe the best African player at his age and position.

Gaitan is good but he just what people always complaint about Nani, INCONSISTENCY, for those who watched Portuguese League have noticed the he lost his place in the Starting XI because of his lack of form, he is just good for 45min and then disappear and I never saw him shine against Porto, Sporting or Braga. Price tag for him is completely stupid, no more than 14mil... ITS MY OPINION

If everyone thinks we will get four players which I really hope we do. Im not sure if that should be vertongen, kagawa, gaitan/rodriguez and a dm o a striker.

The players I hope that come in are all in our price range add one or two free transfers I.e clyne, kovacic.

I think we really need a dm but if we get fletcher back fit pogba stays which is unlikely and if Anderson is given a last chance I don't think we will get one.

From the youngsters we are talking about pogba, keane, petrucci.

One question for people who know the reserves didn't tunnicliffe be compared to a younger keane and gerrard in one. Why isn't this kid given a proper chance if he is good enough and hopefully his contract will be sorted out.

It's embarrassing that all that seems to be talked about on here is who will City buy, what if City want them, I bet City do this, do that. City, City, City.

Sir Alex knocked Liverpool off their f*ckin perch, turned Keegan into a nervous wreck. Saw off the mad scientist Wenger's little onslaught.
The latest was Chelsea, guess what.....? They got lots & lots of money bought in the best young Manager Mourinho and Fergie sent him packing to Inter Milan.

Okay so City can buy anyone and everyone.
They won the FA Cup last season & it looks like they'll lift the Prem this season. We ran them close and we still have a half a chance ourselves.

Fergie will want to go out with a bang by winning Europe again and retaining our true place at the top of the EPL.
with £80m and 2 or 3 players will put us back where we belong.

Last summer was about adding to the squad and preparing for the future. And I can see that continuing with some purchases. Nathaniel Clyne will be a young prospect (future england defender). Alongside Clyne coming in will be our outstanding reserve team who are a force to be reckoned with, I know some will leave on loan next year but it is another chance to give them a taste of the first team especially on the upcoming pre-season tour.

However having seen how far behind in quality not only in the league to city but to how far behind we are in the champions league, I can see him spending money purely on the starting 11 this season. I can't see Hazard joining with the reported wages he is demanding, Gaitan is the only other wide option. He was a major factor in helping Benfica do well in the CL this season. I also think a deal for Shinji Kagawa will be concluded before the team returns for the pre-season tour.

We also need that steal in the midfield to go with carrick. We missed fletcher this season, he would have done us a job at the etihad the other week. Someone like Javi Martinez or Kevin Strootman. Who isn't afraid of a tackle and to break the play up and set up the World Class counter attacks of Man Utd.

All in all I can see fergie building a team around a new shape next year. He will look at the shape the likes of Man City and Real Madrid now play (4-2-3-1) and adapt the team around the present times of football.

GK- De Gea
RB-Jones CB-Evans CB-Vidic LB-Evra-(one more season)
CDM-Strootman/Martinez CDM-Carrick
RAM-Gaitan/Valencia CAM-Kagawa LAM-Nani/Young
ST-Rooney/Welbeck/Hernandez

Eden Hazard is refusing to confirm which club he would like to play for next season after indicating he could wear either red or blue.

The 21-year-old Lille midfielder had already openly stated his intention to move to the Premier League amid speculation linking him with Europe's top clubs.

That has led to reports of a bidding war between Manchester City and Manchester United.

Both clubs were represented when Lille played Paris St Germain last month with United scout Martin Ferguson, brother of Sir Alex, watching alongside Patrick Vieira, City's football development executive.

And when Canal+ mischievously asked whether Hazard prefers red or blue, the question drew a non-committal response from the Belgium international.

"I like both," he replied. "They're both nice colours. I think they both suit me."

Those 3 will only cost 20m max so it will leave us with hopefully a lot of money left for a cm. Personally i would like to see martinez if not then sahin or fellaini. feel free to comment.

Not sure syds team would be too cavalier at all. Effectively four cbacks and valencia and young as wing backs. Both better than alves defensively. When defending it would be very secure, when attacking it would be very srtong. We wud have a midfield ball winner in vertonghen and a very packed midfield where we won't be overun. The fluidity and pace in attack would be hard for any team to live with. Kagawa, gaitan, Rooney, Nani valencia and young would be fast, direct and deadly.

REDFAITH

Believable3 Unbelievable1

08 May 2012 13:28:12
Syd mentioned further down the page that the possible signing of Vertonghen could mean a change of formation to having three at the back, at first i didn't think this would work as we've always been an attack with width team and having three at the back limits how far forward the wingers can go as they have important defensive duties. Also we don't have a left winger who works hard enough defensively or has the ability to read the game from a defensive point of view. But we have Been linked with Gaitan who is a hard worker and although not the most prolific tackler has shown that he can usher players out of play or down blind alleys and i think he has the ability to learn the position. So i was thinking how we'd line up and i cam up with this:

_____________DDG
____Smalling__Vidic__Vertonghen
_______Carrick____Cleverley
Valencia_____Kagawa______Gaitan
________Rooney__Welbeck

Now Cleverley has played at LB so would be able to help Gaitan out in covering that flank and Valencia has shown that he is more than able to offer defensive cover on the right flank, Besides any team who did get in at our full back positions would be crossing into a penalty area with Vidic Smalling and Vertonghen defending it and i wouldn't expect anyone to win a battle in the air with those three.
Welbeck would play further forward and stretch the play making spaces in behind for Rooney and Kagawa to exploit with Gaitan and Valencia offering options out wide ready to whip in crosses for Welbeck to either score or knock down for Rooney and Kagawa. The only things i feel would be missing is a proper defensive midfielder as Carrick and Cleverley could get exposed and in some games you might want a player who will just destroy the opposition in stead of Kagawa and maybe push Cleverley further forward who will still be a treat going forward but better defensively. And i think we would need a tall striker who can lead the line and hold the ball up for those playing in the space behind him. Maybe Capoue and Luuk De Jong would be perfect for these roles without breaking the budget.

So coming in would be;

Jan Vertonghen- 7-8m
Etienne Capoue- 8-10m
Shinji Kagawa- 7-10m
Nicolas Gaitan- 25m
Luuk De Jong- 10-15m

which at most would be 68m, we could sell:

Park-2m
Anderson-8m
Nani-25m
Berbatov-6m
Macheda-2m
youth players-1-2m

which would raise between 40-45m bringing it down to a 25m-ish spend which the Glaziers have said we have to spend every year.

I don't think this will happen i just had some fun trying to work out how it would best fit together. lol.

I cant believe how everyone's world seems to be caving in, if (& seems likely) City win the title. This hasn't been a great season from United (injuries, early european exit, freak results ie City/Everton at home) & yet here we are still with a chance of winning the title on the final day. I'm sure that most clubs would gladly swap places with us for this chance. We can't win it every year,we've no divine right, & City can go out & buy whoever they like. All these rumours of "Utd need to buy..." are quite laughable sometimes. One thing for sure is that United WILL bounce back.Isn't that what makes supporting this team so great? Come on we need to pull together on this. I'm already looking ahead to next season, even if we do win the title. There's always hope.We all know that City have the money to get what they want, but i remember about 5 years ago (before the takeover) seeing them at home to Arsenal & there was hardly anybody at the game but now look!! Right, this would be my plan for the summer, and by all means hold me too. I'm trying to stay realistic with additions and exits as I don't see any point in saying I want half the squad sold and half the Madrid squad bought. This will be quite a long one.

So:

GK: One addition in here, Jack Butland. He reminds me a lot of Joe Hart and could become something quite special in time. Kusczack is going to be on his way and i would also let Amos pursue his career elsewhere, he is never going to be first choice. With De Gea, Lindegaard, Johnstone and Butland we would be set for here.

Defence: Realistically i see two players coming in here, Clyne because he is young, British and cheap. And either Mibwia or Verthongen as both are very versatile. Out of the two i would choose Verthongen as he is left footed and the more natural left back. Clyne and Verthongen would plug up a couple of holes as i think we need another full back and also a utility player like John O'Shea. Verthongen also has the added advantage of being able to play in defensive midfield. Verthongen would also mean that we won't need an out and out center back to replace Ferdinand next year. Whilst he wouldn't necessarily make my first 11, he would be a welcome addition.

In terms of youngsters i think that Fryers will be ready for the 2013 campaign and Veseli might also be too but i dont know much about him.

Midfield: This is the contentious area, i think we need one central midfielder, a winger and an atttacking midfielder. Alot depends on Pogba who i think will leave. Fletcher will be like a new signing regardless of how cliche that may sound. Carrick and Cleverly will certainly be first choice, i don't see any new signing getting ahead of those in the pecking order as both are Fergie favourites. I just have this feeling that Rodwell will come in, Fergie does like him and if the medical staff give it the all clear then its possible that he comes in for something like £10 million. Kovacic might also be a target, but id argue that it would be for the year after next as he does have a year left on his deal. That would leave us with Cleverly, Carrick, Anderson, Rodwell, Scholes, Giggs, Fletcher who can all play there.

In terms of an attacking midfielder i'm not going to look past Kagawa who is the best value for money option out their at under £10 million. He would also be able to play on the left as well, but i think he will come in to play behind the striker like David Silva often does for City. Hazard is the winger that i want, but if not then Jamie Rodriguez should be signed next year after getting another season at Porto, waiting would also mean that if Anderson flops again then he can be a part of the deal. If Hazard comes in though i don't see it being the end of Nani as Fergie often talks about strength in depth. We would have four very able wingers in Young, Valencia, Nani and Hazard.

Strikers: Signing Hazard and Kagawa means that Rooney will play quite a few on his own with Welbeck getting more starts than Hernandez.. Hernandez should be kept as an impact player as i dont think he has the ability to start for us. We should keep Owen for a year to cover and we will probably sign Powell from Crewe. The following year Rooney, Welbeck, Hernandez, Keane and Powell could be our strike force. As i have said before Berbatov will be going, King won't make it nor will Macheda and the less said about Bebe the better. Henriquez or E. Torres might come in, but probably not until January.

So my 1st XI for next year would be:

_____________DDG
Rafael__Smalling___Vidic___Evra
_______Cleverly___Carrick
Valencia_____Kagawa_____Hazard
____________Rooney

I would like Evra to be replaced, but i see Fabio as his long term replacement providing he has a good year on loan. Evra is too big a charachter to be slowly squeezed out, so he will just 'leave' and will not be one of those who gets the odd start here or there although he will have another full year next season. By next season hopefully Fabio will have more experience and Fryers will be ready to be number two with Verthongen filling in at times.

Fee's:

I expect around £60 million to be made available like last year, sales will go in the bank though, so coming in:

- Clyne NOMINAL
- Verthongen £10,000,000
- Kagawa £7-8,000,000
- Hazard £28,000,000
- Rodwell £10,000,000
- Powell £2,000,000
- Butland £2,000,000

That would come up to basically £60,000,000. We could get a decent fee for Berbatov, a bit for Park, De Laet, Amos etc. Thats what i would like to see, a very balanced squad with versatile players in it giving us plenty of options.

More rediculous twisting from the press, they have said that Hazard has said he will 'wear blue' next season when in fact all he said was he likes the colors blue and red. Hazard has by no means signed for City, there is a long way to go with this one yet. Pogba also has not yet signed for Juve, and i dont think that he will for another week or so. I don't expect him to stay nevertheless, if he was commited he would have signed. We don't need mercenaries at the club. Lastly the Verthongen link is interesting, he has allegidly said that Spurs are his preference, but i don't believe it, they are probably the ones that have had most conversation with him.

It just shows that we should never believe the threat.

We seriously need to buy a DM. Carrick is ok but isn't good enough in the big games as he a CM not a DM.

Martinez being the obvious acquisition to the squad that we all probably want as our DM.

I hope Fergie moves fast and trys to sign a few players before the Euros as we all know good performances at the Euros generally means a price increase.

People say sell Nani but having him Valencia and Young with another winger would be better for us. It would also make the bench stronger to, which at times has looked very weak. Im hoping for an actual left winger if we buy a winger.

A CAM is a must too but maybe Kagawa at the prices being currently quoted would be a bargain price.

Hopefully we will all be surprised and Fergie gets the nod to splash the cash ...... we can dream.Mad Hatter

although this will be a trophy less season, we haven't had vidic for virtually all season, would we have conceded 2 goals in 8 minutes against Everton of he was there? proberly not! It's not all doom and gloom.

We're behind only on goal difference to a team who spent well over 200+ million to strengthen in all departments.

We spent just short of 60 million and are still challenging at the top level, we've got great young players who are developing and our future looks bright. smalling, jones, da silva twins, cleverly, welbeck! All first team players who are only going to get better with experience.

We obviously need to improve our squad but not that much. For me these would be the ins and outs

Ins
BAINES 12 mill
Modric 35 mill
Hazard 35 mill
Kagawa 12 mill

Spend 94 million

Outs
Berbatov 8 million
nani 25+ million
Anderson 10 million
Owen released
Park 5 million
Macheda 5 million
Pogba free

Possible 53 million made!

I reckon Scholes will retire and giggs will stay on untill fergie retires and will take up a place within the club, complete his mangers badges and maybe be reserve manager possibly future manger!

About Nani and 90k/week, if he is on this amount, and I'm not getting into whether he is/isn't, given the fact he recently said that they would be discussing a new deal, how much would he be asking for?

For me, he's not worth 90k anyway, but if they're negotiating a new deal for what's likely to be 100k+, he can go for me.

For those 3 games a season where he performs fair enough, pay him whatever, but he doesn't do it anywhere near often enough to command such wages IMO.

I not really that upset that hazard may join city. They can pay 30 mill for him and we can have kagawa for 7mill. Let face it between the two players there isn't a 23 mill quality gap is there. And with us having the better dressing room and team moral who's to say kagawa won't be the best player in the prem next year. Newcastle have proven this year you don't need to spend big to get quality!
With only spending a small amount on kagawa it also leaves us with enough for a few more good players such as a good lb a cm and a striker.
I think it is really good business from us and really can't wait to see kagawa in action.

With blackburn relegated i wouldnt be suprised to hear that city have adopted 20,000 more fans, not quite the local team but close

Well we can't keep up to the money and finance of city.. But still keepin in mind d statement made by d club that we do Hv a budget of about 75mil fr d upcoming window... A new squad cn d developed.. Premier league boasts of players wid ability playin fr d by so great teams surviving on a couple of players individual excellence... Sum players need to b let off in d first place... Evra is past his prime... Evans is always a fault waitin to occur.. I think if s united docs cn do enough to gt fletcher n vidic fit fr next season ... Dr will b lots of stability in d holding midfield and d back line as well... Attack is brilliant.. I don't really c d need fr a new winger hvn young, Valencia and nani.. 3 of d potentially best in d wrld... Let's get sm more games fr Owen... He's a brilliant striker... Probably def is where we lack... I wna c leighton baines replacing Evra.. Also a new centre back would b great... As jones n smallish are too young to rely on.. Set wud take another year r 2 to reach a good potential... I herd rumours of Adil rami... V wud Hv to reinstigate dt as well... Nd v should've nt let go of pogba...
