Nani off to Juventus for £5 Million.
Does that mean we have £205 Million to spend

bestieorronnie

1.) Is it only me that thinks £5m is a little cheap for Nani? I know he is the most frustrating player on planet earth. Brilliant one minute, a chocolate teapot the next, but seriously £5m?

Is this part of an agreement with juve to give us first dibs on say Vidal? I hope so. Come on July the 1st can't come quick enough. I can't wait to see who come in and who goes out.

2.) No . 195 million!

3.) To me the price is a little under, but we should consider:
- the guy did not reach his full potential, even though he's already 27;
- he's injury prone;
- you can clearly see that he does not have the fire to play for Man Utd. last games I saw of him were kind of lazy;
- for a bench players, his salary is astronomical.

4.) Daily Mirror reporting that LvG has vetoed Nani's transfer as he is part of the plans for the future. God help us, unless he has a miraculous return to the form he showed a few seasons ago!

5.) Playing Nani only had a negative effect on our overall play. With that said £195 million would then be our budget. He was a burden to us when he played might as well be one on leaving.

What TF - all the premier league managers disgusted with Moyes sacking. 7th in the league, going backwards with performances and they want to give Moyes more time. If Moyes was in the top four competing, with some sort of vision then no problem give him time, but how can you give him £100m plus and just hope he gets it right next season. Okay, any next manager is a punt, but that`s what they are trying do - reduce the risk of the next manager being a dud by being business like in their selection. all this cr*p about United now being like every other team. We`re not spurs, arsenal or Liverpool - we're one of the top 4 teams in world football, if a the manger is going in the right direction he will get time to show it.

bestieorronnie

1.) Couldn't agree more. i'm also sick of all this sympathy for moyes. He came in and made a cock up of everything.

What I'm looking forward to most is not hearing rooney getting lauded before and after every match.

I hope the brown from rooney's butthole will eventually rub off DM's nose!

2.) Bestorronnie

I don't recall they were doing as much bleating when Liverpool sacked Hodgson after less time than we gave Moyes and did they all line up like that against Chelsea on a regular basis? Ignore the Liverpool biased press and those who rejoice in our bad times because they wanted Moyes to stay. Ignore managers who moan because they fear their own jobs when their clubs might suddenly think if United got rid of the non performing manager maybe we should. Maybe we didn't handle it perfectly but he had to go and he went, they will get over it, ignore them, let's enjoy, as Giggs said, us playing like Manchester United again. Let's get a top manager in and ignore bleats about poor Saint David.

{Ed025's Note - i dont think it was that he was sacked red man, as he obviously deserved it, its more the disgraceful way that the senior players in particular plotted his downfall..

3.) You utd fans are so arrogant. "we're not liverpool, arsenal etc etc. we are united and deserve the best. BS attitude" Why? its not a given right to be at the top, it needs to be earned. You have been spoilt by years of stability with (dare I say it) one of the greatest, if not, the greatest modern day managers. about time the bubble burst . welcome to a few years of mediocracy and failing to meet lofty expectations of sweeping all before you.

4.) That's twice you've (ed025) mentioned the disgraceful way the senior players plotted in Moyes downfall, without elaborating fully. Is it just the players who wanted Moyes out or also the board? Is there a news report, with a timeline of incidents, which identify plotting to overthrow his management, that I've missed? There's an image of Ryan Giggs with his hands in front of his face mwaaahaha-ing, ala mister burns! please elaborate.

{Ed025's Note - it was the players alone mate, we all know who they were, once the dust settles the truth will out, and hopefully they will get their just desserts..

5.) It's all very well criticising the players and normally I would agree but the players could see what the fans could see, he wasn't right for the club. Seemingly the only ones that couldn't see it were the board. So if it comes down to a choice if the players stabbing him the back OR Moyes remaining in charge and taking us even further backwards, then I take the former. A club like United should have a manager that doesn't allow the players to take claim the power. SAF wouldn't have, Van Gaal wouldn't, Mourinho wouldn't, Guardiola wouldn't and so on. Moyes was just not a strong enough character for the job.

{Ed025's Note - i agree that he was not strong enough TK, but when the lunatic,s start running the asylum mate..its a very slippery slope..

6.) Tk
Your right all them managers who of got rid of the trouble makers .
I think moyes would of as well this summer

7.) There was more to it than the players. A reputable report explained how Moyes tried to change the emphasis in the youth from skill to physicality which went against everything SAF had introduced. It did not go down well I can tell you.
The players didn't make comments in press conferences or set tactics.
I am very much into standing behind the manager, but the manager has to have the ability or they will lose the confidence from the team. I have come across the show us your medals attitude of team members and have seen managers floundering as he did and it is almost impossible to pull back. So whilst the players haven't covered themselves in glory the manager has not taken command and led from the front because he didn't have the stature to begin with. Kicking out the ones that caused issues would only have pushed the problem to the next year as the ones to come in could equally have lost confidence in him especially if they were used to playing for a really top coach. It may not have been pretty but they have done us all a favour.

{Ed025's Note - i can see your point red man, and it goes without saying that he was a poor choice mate, i just would have liked it to come from the top, i think thats the way it should be..

8.) I don't know who the players were, can you tell me?

{Ed025's Note - if you dont carloto i would be surprised, the media do,so i suggest you read up on it mate..

9.) Moyes may very well have shipped those players out in the summer but whether their conduct was inappropriate or not, these are seasoned professionals who have known what is required at Manchester United. I also think that a manager has to earn the right to make those decisions, whether it be by getting results at his current club or from having a proven track record at that level before he joined the club. It's been said many a time that the step up was just too big for him and perhaps the players could see that. If players, who have served United loyally and with distinction, felt this was the only option then I would take their word. David Moyes has never done anything to earn my trust with regards to my team and I'm sure other United fans feel the same.

10.) Carloto, I can name the player who the media have said there were rifts with. None of us were there when it happened so we don't know for sure, but Vidic, Ferdinand, Giggs, Van Persie, Carrick & Welbeck all had disagreements with the manager. Hernandez & Kagawa were not happy either but remained professional (if the media reports are true).

11.) Tk
Lets just hope the players like the next manager.

12.) TK, I feel the same. I don't think he had the respect he needed from the start. No credentials.

13.) Redman

"A reputable report explained how Moyes tried to change the emphasis in the youth from skill to physicality which went against everything SAF had introduced. It did not go down well I can tell you."

you are making stuff up, go ahead and post this reputable report and hope the eds allow it.

14.) GCU
From Manchesters main newspaper
"David Moyes cut holes in his own safety net at United by attempting to change the Reds’ academy style.
Back in the grim days of 1989 when Alex Ferguson’s Old Trafford future as United boss came under increasingly intense scrutiny and the support was losing patience on the terraces, his back-the-scenes groundwork with the youth system bought security.

Largely unseen at that point by the match-going fan, Fergie was revamping the club’s neglected youth policy and scouting network.

Having learned of neighbours City’s win in the FA Youth Cup over United in 1986 before his arrival from Aberdeen and seen the fact that Maine Road was hoovering up many of the best local talent, Ferguson set about shifting the balance back to the Reds being the main attraction for the best kids in the area.

Les Kershaw was brought on board to head the scouting system and old boys Nobby Stiles and Brian Kidd were employed as youth team coaches.

The spirit of the Busby Babes era blossomed as United began to take command of Manchester and the Class of ‘92 was the first major public success when they triumphed over Leeds and won the 1993 FA Youth Cup.

As well as discovering the nuggets, the youth team staff had to teach a style of play that was to run through the whole club, from the youngest apprentices to the most senior players. They were educated in the United style.

It was because of that background strategy that the United board, made up of chairman Martin Edwards and directors Sir Bobby Charlton, Maurice Watkins and Michael Edelson, never ever discussed the possibility of sacking Fergie in the late 80s despite poor league results and fans beginning to call for his head.

The youth policy was Fergie’s safety net.

Unfortunately it is understood that Moyes effectively tampered with his own job security by attempting to produce a more athletic next generation with less emphasis on ball skills.

A number of the staff working with the younger players were uneasy about the change and a good few entrenched in Fergie’s ways of developing the academy players wondered if they would get the call to Moyes’ office to discover their P45s on the table.

In the end it was the manager who got the bullet and with concerns over how things were changing on the youth development side, Moyes didn’t have the safety net Fergie had created for himself over a quarter of a century ago when results were not going his way."

Enjoy that GCU?

How many people felt the game wasn't over after we went 2 - 1 up?
You just knew that something like this was going to happen.
Every time Fulham attacked ( 3 times ) they looked like scoring.

bestieorronnie

1.) I thought it wasnt over, why oh why I never cashed out when I was seriously thinking about it ill never know. < greed

2.) Same here, I though RVP had a great chance to put it away but went for the chip and missed it. Also don't really understand why Rooney needs to try that silly lob cross in the 93rd minute instead of just keeping possession and recycling the ball.

Just very strange stuff from some of the players and very out of character.

Yesterday must be devastating to any confidence we might have had left and will be interesting to see how we finish this miserable year.

I have been watching it all for the last few months and have to give my opinion on some of it.
1. Moyes - just seems to be an unlucky manager, I was happy enough when he was appointed but maybe has to to go at the end of the season. ( I'm not fully decided on that )
2, David De Gea - fanatastic keeper -needs to dominate his area and be quicker off the line.
3. Raphael - started off like he was going to be one of the best full backs in Europe - now seems to be trying too hard and looking vulnerable.
4. Phil Jones - Always getting injured, never near being like Duncan Edwards. Needs a run at centre back.
5, Chris Smalling - not United quality, can't pass the ball more than 10 metres.
6. Johnny Evans - Okay but does not dominate games like Vidic used to.
7. Vidic - legend but nearing the exit.
8. Rio - similar
9. Evra- similar
10. Carrick - has to work the midfield on his own, I feel a bit sorry for him in that regard.
11. Cleverly - Never seen him make a good tackle, doesn't offer anything.
12. Wellbeck - going backwards - used to a least work hard and hassle the defenders, doesn't seem to even do that now.
13. Young & Nani- most inconsistent United players - 1 good game 4 bad.
14. Valencia - I like his attitude but totally one footed and never drives at the defence like he used to. Keeps getting gaught napping when deployed at full back.
15. Rooney - over hyped but still one of the top players in the Premier League - needs top players around him to bring the best out of him.
16. RVP - Total class but again needs the service.
17. Mata - will be a legend
18. Januzaj - is nearly a legend already
19. Bring back Zaha and Powell
20. Kagawa - never really got a good chance in his best position - will probably be sold.
21. Chicarito - Has got a touch like an elephant - should be kept as an impact sub - but will he want to.
22. I don't like United losing but can take it better if we play attractive football and do the basics like pass the ball, tackle, close down, not hoof the ball when under pressure and look like they are enjoying playing football.
23. Need a lot of quality in the summer
24. Tired now after that going to bed and we better beat Fulham.

bestieorronnie

1.) Good post, agree with all of it

2.) Lfc supporter, I come in peace, please do not think this is meant to be inflammotary or sarcastic.
As a complete outsider, what is obvious is that united do not have any strength in depth. You have 5 good players, rooney, rvp, mata, januzaj, de gea and that's it. Look at citys strength in depth, its phenominal and so is vhelskis. Lfc strength in depth is nowhere near citys or cheslkis but ovrrall we have great players in attack supported by decent players throughout theeam, so we are slightly better than united. Suarez, sturridge, sterling, coutinhogerard, allen, lucas, henderson, agget, skrtl, johnson, mignolet etc. its a better squad.,

3.) Agree with most of that. Excellent post and you need the rest after all that!

{Ed004's Note - I disagree about Smalling}

4.) I think come the end of the season we should think about selling either or both of Welbeck and Chicharito. Neither show any signs at improving on the parts of their game that let them down.

I also disagree about Smalling I think he's a good passer, fast and strong and good in the air. We've just had a lot of bad luck with injuries at the back which means we're constantly changing our CB which is a big problem. The most important partnership you need in a team is between the two CB and the GK, there's no stability in defence if you don't have that. Clearly we're lacking that with all the stupid goals we're conceding ATM.

5.) Tel, it's a simple thing called "zero confidence", players playing negatively (Moyes' way) and serious injury issues.

Our squad is vastly better than Liverpool's, the difference is you are playing well and we are not.

6.) I agree wiv all of it, especially Smalling. I'd only keep him as a squad player. Good at times, but gives the ball away too much. He nearly gave Stoke a third yesterday too. We really missed out on Varane.
Sounds a bit desperate, but I'd have got Lescott for a short fix. I'll be amazed if we don't go all out for a LB in the summer. Evra was more a winger than defender yesterday, and to be fair to Rafael, Arnautovic is Stokes best player and is a real problem for any RB in the world when in this form.

{Ed004's Note - I disagree with everyone with Smalling. Baring in mind centre backs peak at 26 or so he has another 2 yrs of gaining experience. In the past month he was Motm against Sunderland and Cardiff IMO dominating set pieces and being fantastic under the high ball. His tackling is very good and he is very quick. As long as he's partnered with a good ball playing centre back I think he will be fine. His positioning will improve with games and his passing with confidence. He needs to work on his technical ability and he will become a fantastic defender. I reckon a centre back partnership of Smalling and Mangala would be terrific as it has pace, speed and height so we could easily play a high line}

7.) Agree with all except Smalling (like Ed004) - he can't pass the ball 5 yards!

8.) Smalling needs to play at CB regularly alongside Jones so they can build a partnership. CB's need a run of games and Smalling rarely disappoints at CB. For a player that is just shoved around in different positions or left on the bench, he does better than Evans does even when Evans gets to play where he wants every game.

9.) I really hope he comes good at supplying the midfield at least. I just find myself very Jeckyll and Hyde with him during games. Heaping praise then questioning myself 2 minutes later. I just worry that he hasn't kicked on yet. (To extent of mentioning Lescott. lol)

10.) Disagree with u Syd, Evans has been much more consistent than Smalling. I feel Evans offers more to the CB position than Smalling. I'd much rather Jones/Evans than Smalling/Evans at this time. But it's no secret we could do with a new experienced (In Europe) CB.

11.) The reason Evans has looked more consistent (debatable), is because he has had a long run of games at the back. All CB's need this and Smalling albeit not the best with the ball, is the better defender of the two.

12.) In your opinion of course, Syd :)

13.) Yes Stevie, in my humble opinion. Where are you from Stevie? Northern Ireland by any chance :)

14.) Well I'm not from and Ireland. You think that because your in agreement with Ed004 and more than likely a certain number of the brotherhood, the whole of United fans should be too.? A bit patronizing there Syd.

15.) Whatever led you to think that, mate? :)

But I'm totally impartial :)

16.) I put northern not and btw

17.) Patzi, my point was (and in a friendly way) Stevie is from NI and so is Evans. Many (not all) are massive fans of Evans because he's a local lad to them and they want to see a local lad succeed. I think Evans is a good defender, but I wouldn't want him first choice. In fact I don't see either of Smalling and Evans being first choice in the future. Jones plus one for me, perhaps Garay.

It was like watching a United reserve team.
Big job for Moyes to keep Januzaj.
Rooney will go.
We need at least 8 top quality players - 3 across the back, 2 midfield, 2 wide and a Goalscorer to play with De Gea, RVP, Januzaj

bestieorronnie

1.) I think that is a bit disrespectful to our reserves who could probably do a better job then our first team at the moment

2.) I'll take massive flack for this. But I think Januzaj, eventhough he's a good player and going to be great, I wouldn't play him as much as he is, yet.
He needs to be coming on to do something when the opposition are tiring.
Tonights bench didn't have nothing on to suggest if we need a goal or need to keep the ball they could come in and do some good.

08 Jan 2014 00:38:03
It has to be the last time chance for Cleverley. The poorest performance of a United player I can remember. I don't like to pick on individuals but it was a stand out poor performance.
Hopefully he can go on and have a good career at another club. It has to be Fletcher and Carrick for this season.

bestieorronnie

1.) I agree cleverley has to go and I think carrick is well overrated possibley one of the slowest thinking midfielders in the league

2.) I cannot understand Moyes playing Cleverly for most of the games, when he has been so poor. Ando is a no.10 that we have tried to convert to a midfielder and it hasn't worked. But at least he's good going forward and can create things. Cleverly offers us nothing in either direction.

3.) 08 Jan 2014 08:28:32
I agree, Anderson wouldn't do much worse than Cleverly.
