I can't believe we are going to spend £60 or £70 million on Dier when Roy Keane only cost us £3.6 million!

Do people on here not move with times?

Kyle Walker the avergae/ good full back has just gone for £45 or £50 million so why would a good defensive mid not go for £70 million?

He can keep the ball and can play cb too if needed and does the job in front of the back 4 that Carrick has done wonderfully well for years.

He's coming from a club with a chairman who gets top money for his players so i don't really see the issue if JM wants him.

We need to get the prices into perspective. Neymar's buyout is reported to be £200 million so it's all relevant really in todays climate.

Dier has limited passing ability, and is nowhere near Carrick's standard. He has been phased out of the Spurs midfield during the course of the season, and is better as a CB. He has played in midfield internationally, and has been very poor. Carrick is a deep lying playmaker, and does far more than just keep possession. His ability allows other midfielders to play further up the pitch, and strikers to play on the shoulder. Dier simply does not have the passing range, and struggles to start attacks. This means that other midfielders drop back to collect the ball from him, and you can see this with England.

If we're planning on buying him to play in defence, he might be a decent option but massively overpriced, even in today's market.

2.) 18 Jul 2017 12:00:44
for £70 million we should be aiming for Tony Kroos.

3.) 18 Jul 2017 13:52:05
spurs won't sell him.

4.) 18 Jul 2017 13:59:01
Yeah for £70 million we should be signing Tony Kroos that's a helpful comment!

Madrid have already proved difficult to deal with as far as Morata goes and Kroos seems happy winning torphies in madrid.

So what makes you think Kroos is achievable?

As for Dier being good enough or as good as Carrick JM is better qualifed than me to make those decisions i'm just saying let's not get to hung up on price all the time.

Does anyone on here really think the Glaziers are spending money they can't afford?

5.) 18 Jul 2017 14:29:36
Seems that £40m-£50m is the going rate for a general transfer these days so I suppose in a case like Dier who is young, a Levy player and a specialist if you like in his role plus it's known united are looking for a a DM and have cash to burn it's not surprising £60m is bandied around tbh.

Don't like it but it's the way it is. Clubs simply don't need to sell anymore so most transfers are way over the odds. Seems Jose was correct when he said the Pogba fee will seem reasonable come this summer and beyond.

6.) 18 Jul 2017 15:05:55
He's poor at CB. I'd steer clear.

7.) 18 Jul 2017 15:28:17
Chorltonred - because in the sharkopod ed002 said Kroos might be a possibility. Reel your neck in fella!

8.) 18 Jul 2017 15:51:31
Diet not as good as matic.

My preferred CM is Kroos.

You should have a listen to the sharkopod chorlton and you might learn something rather than having a go at people with different opinions.

9.) 18 Jul 2017 15:52:51
Chorlton. I don't think Dier has anything to offer. Full stop. If Spurs want £70m for him then that's up to them.
If we gathered all us United posters and put us all together and added all our salaries for our working lives then multiplied the figure by 50, then we still won't get to £70m. Does that put things into perspective?
I know it's not our money but we want our club to be successful on and off the pitch. If we're not successful off the pitch then how can we afford to buy players?
Throwing £60m-£70m on Dier is simply nuts. He is not worth half this amount. In fact, he's not worth anything as he will not improve our team.

10.) 18 Jul 2017 16:45:36
Dier is the opposite of a specialist. He has played cb, rb, and cdm for Spurs. Cdm is his worst position, and that's why Spurs bought Wanyama last summer.

11.) 18 Jul 2017 17:54:36
Speak for yourself NoMid. I'm a member of the landed gentry, with properties in Miami, Cannes, Bel Air, London, and a small country retreat in Cornwall, that I use to host fabulous feasts and banquets, when my old mucker, the Duke of Westminster is in the area. I could probably buy Dier for the club if you want, with the interest I earn on my savings account every year. And I only hang around here with you plebs, to see how the working/ under class get their kicks.

12.) 18 Jul 2017 18:30:46
Well I will reel my neck in when it happens pal and i will be only too glad to do so if it does happen as i want Kroos myself more than any other cm.

However if he was a possibilty why would we be wasting our time chasing Dier?

Pretty obvious Kroos is not coming and if you are arouind long enough and still posting in September i will be more than happy to give you the i told you so speech!

13.) 18 Jul 2017 18:36:42
SchMidfield,

You are missing the point slightly pal. I'm just saying if he is a target we will only get him by paying the going rate.

Theses clubs no longer need to sell so we either p[ay what they want or go with what we have.

If Dier is even a target or good enough remains to be seen but if he is we will not be getting him for 20 or 30 million.

That approach has worked well so far for Woodwood with Morata and Perisic i see.

14.) 18 Jul 2017 19:01:42
Angelred,

You may see naming 4 or 5 players in each position as some what informative and information you can't live without, however I don't.

As for me having a go at other peoples opinions haven't you just done the exact same thing to my opinion in your post?

Maybe i'm just so comfortable with my own opinion that i don't need to blow smoke up peoples arse's who call us toxic and who were nothing short of downright rude and dismisive to people on here when they wanted LVG out.

15.) 18 Jul 2017 20:15:43
Chorlton Red, I didn't say he would be signing. My comment was that if we were prepared to spend £70 million on a central midfielder I would prefer we used it to try to tempt Real to sell Kroos to us.

I only mentioned Kroos because Ed002 linked him to us, it would probably take that kind of money to bring him to OT and he would be a much better signing than Dier.

I wanted LVG gone and I also don't appreciate being called toxic for it.

16.) 18 Jul 2017 20:36:34
LVG was the toxic one. Good riddance to him.

As for Dier - I've said many times I don't get it. And not for £60m. Kroos - yes please.

17.) 18 Jul 2017 20:45:36
Okay. So we're all in agreement that we would prefer Kroos to Dier and that LVG was crap?

Shall we leave it there?

18.) 18 Jul 2017 21:26:59
The anti-football I watched under LVG, was the worst I've ever seen as a Utd fan, and that includes the Moyes and Sexton years. I never like seeing a manager or player not make it at Utd, and I really wanted it to work for him, but the man's dinosaur-thinking on how football should be played, was the antithesis of what I believe the game to be about. If that makes me a toxic, then so be it.

19.) 18 Jul 2017 22:43:45
Ps if Jack Wilshere really is available for £6m I'd take him at tenth the price and rotate him with Carrick!

20.) 18 Jul 2017 21:05:29
Comedy gold reading your descriptions of dier. You really haven't got a clue. Danny pughnited lol classic, seriously stick to analysing your own team cause you are way off on your dier description.

21.) 18 Jul 2017 19:21:57
I have no problem debating, you are just totally disregarded people's opinions.

So ed002s information is not informative, do me a favour, what he's forgotten about football you'll never know 😂😂

How the hell would you know who is coming or not? Tell me then who else we are signing as kroos is definitely not coming.

Another one slagging Woodward. remind us what football clubs you've run.? 😂.

07 Jul 2017 12:33:43
Ed001

If you are around i would love to hear your opinion on our summer signings/ signings to be or maybe not to be?

I do value your opinion and you always have a good knack of making me look at things differently and change my point of view on most occasions.

It was insightful to hear your opinion on Rooney today and about giving things back and dropping his wage demands for Everton.

They are things I do not consider and know nothing about about when I make my comments on players but they make you look at things differently.

The comment about not dropping his wage demands to play for his boyhood team was very revealing and said an awful lot about his character that i did not know.

Most people on here, myself included, would play for free for there own team. However Rooney appears to have demands above that of a normal player wanting to play for his home town team which i find strange.

So my question in a long drawn out way. If you were a United fan would you want Lukaku, Morata, Both or neither?

chorltonred11

{Ed001's Note - personally I would go for Morata, he is a better player to build an attack from. Lukaku reminds me of a better version of Loic Remy. He is arrogant, but that is self-belief which is why Lukaku is such an excellent finisher. It is the rest of the game that is the problem. Far too often he is static and allows defenders half his size and pace to mark him completely out of a game because they make it difficult for him and he just can't be arsed to try and move them about.

What he wants, to be at his best, is to play ahead of a team playing from deep, with balls over the top for him to use his pace and power to get on the end of. That way his dreadful first touch is not such an issue, as he only needs to knock the ball forward, rather than control it, most of the time. When he has to take a ball to him and look to bring others into play, he is lost. The poor first touch sees the ball bounce off him.

Watching Lukaku try to control the ball is like playing kerby. You throw the ball and hope it is going to come back to you to catch, but usually it goes just about anywhere else. Added to his inability to motivate himself to break sweat chasing that poor touch and you have a problem if you need to build an attack through him. He is also surprisingly poor in the air for such a big man. Otherwise you could also look to get it wide and whip the ball into the box for him, but he needs the ball on the floor to get the most from him.

Morata, on the other hand, is excellent technically, when he was at Juve he worked his backside off playing a similar role to the one Dybala now plays, most of the time. He was also used as a main striker, but he is not at his best with balls launched over the top. Morata wants balls he can take in and look to play in others or attack his man.

Lukaku is the better finisher, but Morata is a much better all round player. For me that is a huge difference. Something I remember as a kid was Everton in the mid-80s won the league with Andy Gray, who scored goals but they sold him and brought in Gary Lineker who scored twice as many, but they finished second. With Lineker every other player's goal return dropped, as it was all about getting him in, whereas Gray brought others into play too and the team contributed much more. I think that Morata and Lukaku are comparable. One will score lots of goals but the other will score goals and help the rest of the team to score as well.}

1.) 07 Jul 2017 13:43:24
In fairness, 001, Lukaku has more assists than any other striker in the prem in the last 5 seasons. I'm not saying he's the be all and end all, but he has more to his game than you've just gave him credit for. However, football is a game of opinions, which makes it what it is haha!

{Ed001's Note - having assists does not mean a thing. How many are down to poor control meaning the ball bounces to another player? How many are due to him actively creating a chance for someone else? Stats like that are just crap and meaningless numbers on their own.}

2.) 07 Jul 2017 14:08:10
ED001 I think you could compare Lukaku to Saha. Both had a poor first touch and when it comes to finishing like Saha, Lukaku is better when it isn't given time to think where to shoot.

{Ed001's Note - Louis Saha? If so he never had a poor first touch at all. Quite the opposite.}

3.) 07 Jul 2017 14:26:50
Saha was technically class. Always a bit gutted that his injuries got in the way, loved it when he was on form for us.

4.) 07 Jul 2017 14:33:08
Saha's first touch and close control were a huge part of his game. His ability to take the ball in, use his burst of pace to get a yard or two on the defender and his excellent finishing were what he was all about.

I think it was Neville who said Saha was amazing in training, the things he could do with the ball at his feet. He was a really good player. Shame about his injuries.

{Ed001's Note - exactly, Saha was class on the ball, just suffered badly with injuries.}

5.) 07 Jul 2017 14:37:22
What's yours opinions on Lindelof, Perisic and Matic Ed? They seem most spoken about.

{Ed001's Note - I like what I have seen of Lindelof, looks a good defender. Decent on the ball too from what I have seen.

Not sure about Perisic, I know I have seen him play, but I just don't remember anything much about him. So he obviously wasn't terrible or I would have noticed.

Matic I just think suits the way Mourinho likes to play, he has a good range of passing and is happy to sit deep and prevent opponents breaking quickly. He does lack mobility, but he is big and strong.}

6.) 07 Jul 2017 15:33:41
Ed001 i'm in 100% agreement with all of that. Great assesment! Feeling better now? 😁.

{Ed001's Note - no I am still sulking at your use of the word some! Can't get round me that easily.....}

7.) 07 Jul 2017 15:45:38
Thanks ed, appreciated, I always thought matic would be a shrewd signing, Lindelof and Bailly would be a great combo for many years. Never seen Perisic play so cannot comment but think we may wait on griezmann. As for lukaku, well he has his flaws no doubt but he puts the ball in the net so hopefully our supply lines are in working order next season.

8.) 07 Jul 2017 15:45:38

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

9.) 07 Jul 2017 16:01:39
Touchy git😁.

{Ed001's Note - just so long as you don't do any touching, you have been warned about this! Only Ed007 doesn't mind being touched up by you and that is because he can't afford to be choosy. Last time he went to the cinema it was to see the Elephant Man and the crowd there thought he had come in costume.....}

10.) 07 Jul 2017 16:23:47
That's harsh ed. Poor john Merrick.

{Ed001's Note - good point, I apologise, Merrick was never as ugly as 007.}

11.) 07 Jul 2017 16:24:04
I completely agree stats are meaningless unless justified, however, would you be that annoyed if your striker was creating chances for teammates by being sh*te. Think what he could do if he had a good touch ;)

12.) 07 Jul 2017 16:51:28
TBH ED001 I always found Saha to play like an octopus his legs were all over the place. When fit and on form he was very good.

{Ed001's Note - that's enough about your private life mate, what did you think of him as a footballer?}

13.) 07 Jul 2017 17:42:49
Morata just hasn't done enough for me only started 15 games last season 14 for juve the season before. Played a bit on the left hand side of midfield for juve and in the hole .
Not really scored a lot either .
Looked better for Spain when I've seen him but united don't play like spain .
Not the type of striker we need imo when you have pogba miki and a couple of others who can play in that space off or near the striker .

Not the perfect player lukaku but good in and around the box. If he is used to get on the end of things I think he will suit united and Jose very well .

14.) 07 Jul 2017 18:11:39
I agree with the last paragraph jred. Like with all new signings i have high hopes for lukaku.
I think he will improve too in all aspects. Can't wait to see him in action.

15.) 07 Jul 2017 17:34:58
Scorching form for a wounded man 001😂😂.

{Ed001's Note - always mate, always ;-)

16.) 07 Jul 2017 18:24:02
I've never seen a player better at controlling the ball with his chest than Saha. Admittedly not top of the list of important footballing attributes but I loved him when he was here.

17.) 07 Jul 2017 18:51:24
Saha
Was a top player I thought york was outstanding during his short spell at united.

You look at lukaku he is big strong lad and you would expect him to be a target man but that's not really his game .
Top striker and still only 24 but a lot of his game could and probably should improve .
It's up to him but he could be a great player .

18.) 07 Jul 2017 19:31:40
Ha ED001 when fit he was very good. However I don't think UTD ever really saw the best of him due to his injuries. I found that he was bet at first time shots rather than taking a touch or two.

19.) 07 Jul 2017 19:31:40

{Ed001's Note - I saw him in his younger days do some lovely dribbles. Once out of nappies he did lose that skill to a degree though.....

Seriously, I can remember him being good at running with the ball and beating a man to get a shot off in the days before he joined United. I don't remember much of him at United due to his injuries though, so maybe they had cost him that timing you need to know when to move the ball away from an incoming challenge.}

20.) 07 Jul 2017 21:10:39
Thanks Ed01

You have pretty much described my thoughts but in a much more ellaquaint way!

I have to confess I have not seen much of Morata but he's looked neat and tidy with a good first touch in the small amount i have seen.

Now depsite Lukaku goals he does look somewhat clumsy at times with a poor first touch. I would have hoped to sign them both if possible and if not i would have gone with Morata.
Thats just purely down to my preference and i'm not saying it's necessaraily going to be the right choice but hey you have to go with your gut instinct and mine would be Morata.

Now before anyone starts saying i'm not happy with Lukaku that's really not true and i'm glad we have got a good player on board if it actually happens but my first choice probably would have been Morata or both.

However Lukaku scored a lot of goals last season so hopefully (if he signs) he can repeat that for us but his goals will just possibly replace Ibra/ Rooneys goals that went before and if we are to make a serious challenge we need more goals from our wide players and no 10.

Hopefully Martial and Rashford can provide these and prove me wrong as so far both have fallen short of our very high standards required. Both are young and can easily get to that level so let's hope they do this season and if Mkhitaryan returns from is up and coming pregancy in form and scores some goals we might actually be up there challenging!

{Ed001's Note - I have completely forgotten what any of that said in the shock of finding out Mkhitaryan is pregnant! Will that not interfere with his game?}

21.) 08 Jul 2017 11:09:19
Well it didn't help Neil Webb much!

On a side note how long do you think Mourinho will be at United?

I know you mentioned the hotel living and not being near to his family being a possible problem. I can confirm that as my uncles brother is his driver and takes him back to London all the time however my thoughts are barring international football he doesn't really have many other options if he leaves us.

Barcelona are very unlikely to touch him as are City and Liverpool. He's done Chelsea and Madrid so there are not many big club options open to him after England and Spain really.

{Ed001's Note - I really don't know mate, I don't think he is really fully thinking about football to be honest. His head must be in bits over his father and not having his family there is not a good thing. However, it can be a good distraction to throw himself into and keep his head right. Sometimes it feels like he is looking for an excuse to leave, other times it is clear he wants to be a success.

You are right though, there is not a lot else for him on offer, so I think he is going to have to make it work for the season, either way. Then I would expect him to re-evaluate how things are going being away from family. The problem is that the only reasonable alternatives are abroad and his family are in London, so I don't see how he has a choice but to make things work at United.}

22.) 08 Jul 2017 13:31:54
cheers ed01.

11 May 2017 23:59:27
Can't believe we only drew 1-1 in a European Semi final. If Fergie was in charge and the 2nd leg was at home there's no way we would draw 1-1.
I remember when we played Legia Warsaw in the ECWC semi 2nd leg and after winning the 1st leg we played them at OT in the 2nd Leg and smashed them 1-1!

chorltonred11

1.) 12 May 2017 00:22:13
I see your point Chorlton but to be honest it's not really the same we hadn't won a league for 24 years and wouldn't for another 2. We expect a higher standard now a standard that was set by Sir Alex. But the most important thing is our seasons still not over and we have a cup final to look forward to.

2.) 12 May 2017 00:27:05
Would also just like to add that Fergie ended up replacing many of those players as they just didn't meet his standards. You know the rest, let's hope jose can do something even remotely similar.

30 Apr 2017 00:54:35
Jred is spot on. The 2nd half against City was a bit embarrassing and letting those feelings known does not mean he's negative or anti mourinho.
Fact is the 2nd half was pretty poor from an attacking point of view so he should be allowed to voice that opinion even though we got a good point away at City.

For the record I like Mourinho and think he's doing a good job but that doesn't mean he can do no wrong.

chorltonred11

{Ed007's Note - Jred's never spot on! Don't be coming on here with that kind of shit sunshine or account disciplinary action will be taken. Is this where you want to be when Jesus comes back, backing the likes of Jred?
I've hacked his webcam a few times and it ain't pretty - and possibly illegal in some states of the USA and Norwich.}

1.) 30 Apr 2017 02:06:05
You have obviously never been to Norwich as nothing is illegal!

Winning the derby 5-1 is overrated by the way!

{Ed007's Note - Sex is over rated, you'll find that out in a couple of years and when the time -and money - is right. Just get the cash up front.}

2.) 30 Apr 2017 07:38:19
Chorl11 and Ed
Your both right.

3.) 30 Apr 2017 02:25:56
How did you know I was a virgin who couldn't spell over rated or is that you? When you are as old as me everything is overrated especially sex but winning the derby 5-1 away is as good as it gets, enjoy Ed. At least you haven't called me a fanboy yet with a half and half scarf like last time😂.

{Ed007's Note - You don't get half n half scarves at a Glasgow derby though lol.}

4.) 30 Apr 2017 04:13:54
Truer words were never spoken ed007.

{Ed007's Note - Preach my brother, preach!|}

02 Apr 2017 20:29:52
A werid weekend at Alton Towers (never again! ) and didn't get to see United. Been told we didn't create that much and it was not all that pretty.
So are we anymore the wiser now we have seen Miki, Rash and Martial in the team with no Ibra?
I would personally still go along with Ibra up top and the rest fitting in around him. That being said i can understand why some people think he has been wasteful in front of goal despite his tally.
I just think in our current squad he is still the best option up front with maybe Rashford from the right.
Either way from a player point of view there are quite a few who can do better.
We really need to beat Everton on Tue's or top 4 may be beyond our reach.

On lighter note I gave Rita the best 49 seconds she's ever had!

2.) 02 Apr 2017 20:56:11
Is Rita your wife's name mate?

3.) 02 Apr 2017 21:10:00
Not sure if this is a trick question however i will answer it just in case its not! Its the ride at Alton Towers pal which is all over in 49 seconds.

4.) 02 Apr 2017 21:10:09
Haha, no dark knight, it is a ride at Alton towers.

5.) 02 Apr 2017 21:28:52
Don't you hate it when people boast ;) .
Chorltonred11 has been hand picked to replace the Duracell bunny.

6.) 02 Apr 2017 22:07:15
If I was boasting i would mention my record which is 2 mins 11 secs!

7.) 03 Apr 2017 10:34:43
I know really mate, Im just kidding :)

Shappy will be busy now writing his essay telling us the club are right to not be held to ransom and we can’t moan every time we don’t sign a player.
However the paper thin squad will be even weaker and I will have to continue to watch the utter crap the Lingard and Pereira produce.
We won’t splash the cash for Fernandes so who thinks we will pay more for Maddison or Grealish in the summer?
Mediocrity at its best.

You are missing the point redwishkey. You may well be right and our interest is nonsense. However he does then go on to question if he would fit in at United so you may well be wrong. So back to my original point I’m none the wiser.

The op asked him to confirm if we have made an approach for Soumare.
He didn’t answer yes or no so I’m personally none the wiser to the question.

Yeah Shaw is another one ken, injury prone, soft and lazy. ED47 spot on.
He went off with a bang to the nose in one game and actually missed to next game!

Clear to anyone who watches him, very talented and vey lazy to go with it. Seeen it for 5 years now and it's boring and annoying watching him waltz about up front. Great finisher but can't be arsed putting in the effort to make himself or us great.

Looking from the outside in would you sack Ole?

I’m now leaning towards the sack but the problems go deeper than Ole.

I have misunderstood then and please accept my apologies.

I thought you were coming from the angle we are better than you type of thing!

As for the money thing it means nothing if not spent wisely but spent correctly it can mean a lot.

I have an Arsenal pal from London who now refuses to speak about football as he so peed off with how bad thngs are.

That's pretty much where we are heading right now too!

As for what I'm on. just cider at the moment but the night is young!

{Ed047's Note - definitely not in the whole scheme of things mate, I just like what I’ve seen in the early weeks of Arteta’s reign.

From what we both were we are a mess but right now but I do see us as a slightly better mess.

How it all pans out I’ve no idea and I’ve said it before, we both need to get back to what we were.

How long we take again I’ve no idea mate. Enjoy the cider, have a great night and no harm done. 👍🏼

Well that's surreal an Arsenal fan saying "here we go again"

So your plan is based on what Areta (an unproved manager) who has actually won less than Ole. Which is hard to do. A board that spends less than our board, which is hard to do.

You have wone 2 games so far under him against a rubish United team and Leeds. For the record Leeds were the better team in the fist hlaf but i didn't see the 2nd

I'm not for one mintue saying we are not in a mess, because we are.

We have a unproven manager, like yourselves, with a board who are never going to care enough to make a difference. However let's not kid oursleves you are in better shape!

You have been spineless for nearly 18 years but you act like you talk from a position of strength. Absloutley lauaghable!

We are both completley and utterly crap with bang average players and desevrve better owners. We have been crap for 7 years though and you have been that for nearly 2o!

Lets not let the facts get in the way of a good story though!

{Ed047's Note - chorlton what are you on, I never come on here talking from a position of strength, I say it like it is. I’m not like a lot on here who want to put others down to make themselves feel better.

We have been dire for years and right now I don’t care about results I care about a change of attitude that has stunk the place out for years.

The spineless weak attitude you now exude. Arteta in a few brief weeks is actually changing that. What has OGS down in 18 months, absolutely nothing.

You talk like money matters like spending £800 million will mean you’re something, we’ll it clearly means nowt.

I 100% would have Rashford, AWB and the young left back Williams, I think, the rest you can stick where the sun doesn’t shine for me mate.

Your squad is dire, every man and his dog knows it, your manager is abject and your coaches look and are useless.

But you live in that lovely dream world fella. 🤦‍♂️

ED47,

There is not a team in the league who thinks they can't get something off you so what's your point.

chorltonred11

{Ed047's Note - ahh here we go again, I’m guessing you thought you’d get something off of us last week then? 🤦‍♂️

At least we look to have a plan and the short time Arteta has been here he’s changed the players work ethic, mentality and style of play.

Your good selves on the other hand look weak, spineless, lack creativity, have no style are easily bullied out of a game and your managers out of his depth in conjunction with his hapless coaches.

That aside mate you frighten the life out of teams.

Think that lays out my point.

Just like Plan A changed with Allegri right?

{Ed002's Note - That was 2017.}
