Ed02 - lots of reports about de Ligt - is there any truth in us pushing for a deal to be done / it being very close?

panebello

{Ed002's Note - The club have been approached to say they can significantly increase the offer to the player and Barcelona will step back as they don't see the value - but the player will be told it is now or never for Barcelona as they will move on. Could be a very expensive mistake brining him to England and could cause a senior departure at the club.}

1.) 26 May 2019 10:10:42
Can I ask who the senior departure is.

{Ed002's Note - I said "could".}

2.) 26 May 2019 10:20:45
Good not one person at that club I would be concerned about leaving player or staff.

3.) 26 May 2019 10:24:42
Woukd this be a Woodward signing and not OGS?

{Ed002's Note - What?}

4.) 26 May 2019 10:39:43
Hey Ed,
Why do you suggest this would be a mistake?

High risk due to age and financial commitment?

Or bringing in a young player to a club that is a bit of mess just now?

To flip that:
Utd need leaders, a good CB, Ole wants youth so would seem a good move but a big step up (which the best players from the Netherlands have made: RvP, RvN, Stam, Suarez, Robben to name few but there's plenty of Ryan Babels, Afonso Alves etc.

{Ed002's Note - There is nothiong to suggest that the player gives value for the money that Barcelona have agreed to pay and certainly not more - hence if Manchester United decide to make any outrageous bid Barcelona will step back and in all probability the kid's future career will be trashed.}

5.) 26 May 2019 10:45:18
Ed,
Do you think the club are repeating the same mistakes by overpaying for someone they shouldn’t and making other players unhappy? Your use of the word “significantly increase” makes me wonder if its the same/ similar situation as Sanchez?
Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - No it is a different situation to Sanchez and as I have explained this was simply part of the deal sufggested to the club - and as far as I am aware it is not a done deal or anything like that.}

6.) 26 May 2019 10:50:10
The kid is 19, are we really sure we want to spend mega money on him? I’m not saying he isn’t a good player or won’t turn out to be a great player but he’s still a big risk. He’s played on the Dutch League, remember Depay and Ed saying it was too soon for him to move? Ajax to United is a big step and not just on the pitch.

7.) 26 May 2019 10:50:45
Now being reported that Utd are not interested in the player.

{Ed002's Note - So the whole thing is a smokescreen perhaps?}

8.) 26 May 2019 11:11:33
With what you are having to pay for a player in today's market.
Rather take a punt with de ligt then Ramos.

Also no one expects them to win the title but get back into champions league.
As long as OGS gets the players he wants that are young and hungry and want to play for the club. Few old heads to guide the younger players will be proper ready for 20/ 21

Manchester United have to build from the base and there is no quick fix.
They have great youth coming though and to mix with few signing I am going with half full rather then half empty.
Yes there is also dead wood that needs to go.

{Ed002's Note - Ramos? You are clearly living in a very strange world.}

9.) 26 May 2019 11:35:51
So if Barcelona sign him he’s a good signing, if united sign him he’s not worth it, sounds about right to me. Sick of the whole window to be honest, can’t trust any journalists and loads of them totally contradicting each other. United are in desperate need of a leader and a top centre half, De Ligt is obviously a good player, we could certainly do a lot worse and not being in the CL again is going to mean we need to overpay.

My plan would be to be sensible with signings that get us back into the top 4 rather than trying for the quick fix immediately and overpaying for players who might not be worth it to try and get immediate success, but the club don’t even seem to do what I want so just have to grin and bear it.

10.) 26 May 2019 12:14:46
Hi Ed, why would you say his future could be trashed?

{Ed002's Note - Moving to a club like Manchester United at a young age can easily foul up a prospectively good career - Mephis Depay is another example.}

11.) 26 May 2019 12:16:24
Smokescreen for Gimenez.

12.) 26 May 2019 12:19:38
I hear Marcos Rojo would like to stay, be like a new signing.

{Ed002's Note - He is very difficult to sell as he would be excluded from moving to certain countries - but the club would like to move him on - although the manager may want to keep him.}

13.) 26 May 2019 12:44:01
Something tells me this is going to be a rollercoaster window😂 cheers for all the insight Ed002.

14.) 26 May 2019 13:10:51
Wouldn't say strange world, but with way over priced players are at least with a younger player you can mold over a period of time. He has leadership, vision, and can only get better he is only 19.

Ramos is not going to leave RM unless he gets kicked out. He is after a pay increase.

15.) 26 May 2019 13:12:47
What is the main issue in selling Marco's Rojo.
Age, attitude, wages etc?

{Ed002's Note - The main issue will be finding a club who wants him.}

16.) 26 May 2019 13:13:11
Fair play ed002. Great insight.

17.) 26 May 2019 13:20:28
I wait every summer window to see who uses the word “smokescreen” first. I didn’t think it would be you 002 😂.

18.) 26 May 2019 13:45:56
Surely moving to Barcelona could cause de Ligt the same issues Ed as they are a huge club?

{Ed002's Note - No, they manage players well. Else they will move them on if they don’t work out.}

19.) 26 May 2019 14:12:41
It could easily not work out for him at Barcelona like it could with us. Coutinho and Dembele are perfect examples who went for huge transfer fees to Barcelona and it hasn't worked out.

20.) 26 May 2019 14:30:36
So Rojo made a few comments and thinks he's in the clubs plans.
He probably either injured himself walking out the interview or two footed the journo.

21.) 26 May 2019 16:49:40
Not a fan Mort?

22.) 26 May 2019 17:09:13
Fair point ed.

In recent years Utd's development of purchased youth has been poor but if we are aiming to get back to the good ol' days there was a young CB who arrived from Leeds for a lot of money who was young and not yet develop. He turned out ok.

I think he would be a great signing but we need patience. Would be amazing to buy Toby Alderweireld to play with him and Lindelof.

{Ed002's Note - I am sure he will be great when he arrives.}

23.) 26 May 2019 20:02:04
Why would you not spend 65m on De Ligt everyone should see how good he has been this season in both boxes and is comfortable on the ball. we spend 70m on Lindelof and Bailly. to get De Ligt for 65m is great business and he would be our centre half for 10 years.

24.) 26 May 2019 21:13:07
No WRD not a fan.

25.) 27 May 2019 11:42:41
I’m sure the wages that we would have to offer to get Beat Barcelona to MDL would be the final nail in the coffin regarding DDG talks.

26.) 27 May 2019 16:35:28
I think if DDG was to sign he’d have done it a while ago.

27.) 27 May 2019 18:14:03
I’d be against spending the type of money and salary that we are being rumoured to offer.
He’s 19 years old and needs guidance career wise and making the jump to a bigger club.
Does anyone honestly see our current coaching staff being able to help him improve as a player, or would he be a flash in the pan?
Also concerning if we are offering over £200k a week for him at 19, what would he be wanting when his contract needs renewing?

28.) 28 May 2019 22:43:28
De Light has all the attributes to reach the very top of the game. If we can offload some dead wood and there is a willingness to come to OT we would be crazy not to sign him.

13 Dec 2017 08:12:55
What's the situation with Mkhitaryan? Seems he's been frozen out and is well and truly out of choice with Mourinho. Can you see him leaving and potentially being replaced in January?

panebello

1.) 13 Dec 2017 12:13:30
Why not replace him Barkley? Or Ozil.

2.) 13 Dec 2017 13:31:01
Eric I think Jose wanted Barkley when he was at Chelsea? I could be wrong, but that’s a good shout by you. Not sure he’s good enough but there is a very talented player in there.

{Ed002's Note - In answer to the original question, Mkhitaryan is available and Mino has put feelers out to three potential suiters but whether or not he discussed him with any clubs on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday when they were together I don't know as his focus is on another player right now. But he is available and we will have to see.}

3.) 13 Dec 2017 16:13:22
Hi Ed002 - is the other player Raiola is focused on Donnarumma at Milan? Saw something somewhere that he was looking into whether or not the contract signed in the Summer was forced into. Is there interest in Mikhitarian from any of the sides in Europe and would a January sale have any impact on the club looking to sign Sergej Milinković-Savic in January? Thanks for all the good information.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Unimportant. (b) See above. (c) I have no idea what your point is - why are you complicating matters?}

4.) 13 Dec 2017 16:48:40
Okay thanks Ed002. With the last one just wondered if the club looking to sign Milinković-Savic was dependent on players outgoing either by raising funds or to make room in the squad. Thanks for replying.

{Ed002's Note - I would try to avoid complicating anything with such things as x replaces y or when anything might happen.}

5.) 13 Dec 2017 17:14:46
Thanks Ed002.

6.) 13 Dec 2017 18:10:54
Rightly so, he's been very poor since the start of the season.

7.) 13 Dec 2017 19:33:59
There have been rumours of swap deal involving Mikhitaryan and Joao Mario.

8.) 15 Dec 2017 00:47:48
How many swap deals have you heard of outside of suggestions on this site (Ronnie) and football "rumours" pages of papers? Unlikely.

9.) 15 Dec 2017 06:33:06
I don't say will happen, its just sharing rumours.

Or this could be one among the few swap deals to happen.

10.) 16 Dec 2017 06:57:25
Deals including players is not that uncommon, and many great players have been Included in such deals. Cannavaro, Bonucci, Deco, Torres, Etoo, Zlatan, Milito, Thiago Silva, Cole, Gallas amongst others. for some of the transfers the deals are done seperatly, like the Torres-Cerci transfer. But then you have deals like Zlatan-Etoo, Cassano-Pazzini wich are more of a swap deal. I think Bonucci also was swapped for 2 other players some years ago. Its not common in England though.

Spanish outlet reporting Manchester United have made a bid for Sergi Roberto.

26 May 2017 11:26:21
Few reports saying that Bernardo Silva has flown into Manchester.

panebello

1.) 26 May 2017 11:30:33
Hope he isn't going to the blue side!

2.) 26 May 2017 13:20:28
I guess it's the blue side. Mourinho when asked was not confident but was hopeful though. Just hope we don't miss out on him because we will regret. Guy is skillful and creative like iniesta, and good thing is he's just 22. Doesn't lose ball easily. If you watched him against Man City, my! The way he ran riot making them players look so average including yaya who always want to dominate and bully, man, the boy is great. And I know Guardiola will not lose him because he's a barca/ Guardiola esque player. He's a weapon against any team especially if he's surrounded by quality players and a big club. I'd be crushed if we should lose him to city. We need such in our team to add flair. What an exciting player he is.

3.) 26 May 2017 16:11:24
His goal and assist return isn't really that good 60 games, 11 goals and 10 assists. Lemar who plays on the other wing is far more productive and younger 52 games 14 goals and 14 assists. Ousamane Dembele is the one I would go for 51 games, 9 goals and 18 assists in a league deemed harder than the French league at 20 years old.

4.) 26 May 2017 12:54:27
Papers reporting it's City - surprise signing if so: firstly, they're well stocked for similar creative players (unless long term replacement for Silva) ; secondly, Ed2 not mention in Man Cuty page transfer list.

Doesn't strike me as a JM player.

{Ed002's Note - Manchester City met with Monaco on Tuesday and made a significant offer.}

5.) 26 May 2017 16:24:19
He's going to City unfortunately. There are rumours that we're negotiating with Monaco for Fabinho though. I'd be really happy with that.

6.) 26 May 2017 16:47:48
Hes off to city not totally sure about him myself good little player but he should definitely score more for his potential! Also i feel rashford is going to play wide a lot next year n hopefully martial finds his form they will bring real danger in the wings.

7.) 26 May 2017 17:07:42
Cue the meltdown.

8.) 26 May 2017 17:43:35
It's Pedro all over again 😂.

9.) 26 May 2017 19:08:01
Suddenly people are unsure about him 😂.

10.) 26 May 2017 20:23:21
Thanks for extra info Ed002: guess it's an example of how quickly transfers can happen. Hope you have a relaxing weekend 😎.

15 Oct 2015 15:34:52
Ed02, given Shaw's injury and Rojo's apparent fall out with LvG, seems likely that we'll target a LB (and CB? ) in January, would you be kind enough to share who we are currently looking at please? Was talk of Cresswell a few weeks ago which wouldn't be a bad option. Thanks

panebello

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of specific efforts for January. The club has looked at Brendan Galloway but Everton will not want to sell, certainly not in January. There has been long term interest in Jetro Willems who is refusing to sign a new contract right now - he would likely be an option. Wendell has a long term deal but Bayer Leverkusen's left back has been attracting interest from across Europe, including England.}

1.) 17 Oct 2015 12:30:06
Thanks Ed!

Ed2 - have we made any sort of offer for Aaron Wan-Bissaka at this stage? Or have we simply shown interest, but nothing further so far.

Thanks.

panebello

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get involved with trying to give any blow-by-blow updates.}

16 Nov 2016 09:54:54
Ed02, any closer to sharing any info on incoming / outgoings please?

panebello

{Ed002's Note - By the nature of the passage of time I am of course closer.}

1.) 16 Nov 2016 11:34:51
Ha great response ED002 😂😂.

2.) 16 Nov 2016 12:12:51
:-) walked straight in to that.

3.) 18 Nov 2016 11:12:20
So now we know who Ed002 is. the ghost of William Butler Yeats.

01 Jul 2016 14:24:20
Ed02, do you think the Ibrahimovic deal is a good one for the club? Very good player with plenty of leadership and experience, won't be here long term and won't block Rashford's path, but on the other hand, he'll be on a huge wage and won't find it as easy as he has done in the French league. curious to see what you're thoughts were if you don't mind.

Thanks.

panebello

{Ed002's Note - No, I think it is a mistake to put such a significant amount of the wage budget with one player for one year who will be disruptive in the dressing room, will rub people up the wrong way and will limit the playing time of Rashford.}

1.) 01 Jul 2016 15:12:22
I don’t doubt that Zlatan can cause trouble and make enemies quickly, his confidence borders arrogance and that won't sit well at UTD. However, does this mean that JM will turn a blind eye to him causing trouble? Or will JM keep him in his place and stop the Hassel before it starts?

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure you understand about Ibrahimovic.}

2.) 01 Jul 2016 15:26:45
Glad there are other who think that way too Ed002. He's just looking for a last big pay day, end of. I know a lot of people think along the lines of 'its not our money, so we shouldn't worry about it', and the same with transfer fees. But no club has a bottomless pit of money, so surely spending big fees and massive wages on individuals will have a knock on effect on other potential deals?
I have serious reservations about Zlatan, and even bigger ones about the whole Pogba talk.
United throwing money around is, in my view, just the club trying to make a statement. To me, the only statement it makes is that we are spending money recklessly in a bid to convince ourselves that we are still top dogs, and to passify impatient fans who demand instant success.
Despite the euphoria of many, I honestly fear for another hugely disappointing season of under achievement.
Sure there is money o be spent, but it needs spending in the right areas. Another quality CB is needed, and another top midfielder. We also need more quality up front. But pace is needed. Has been for a long time. Zlatan does not bring that.
I honestly hope I am wrong about him, and that he is a huge success. Time will tell I suppose.

3.) 01 Jul 2016 16:09:24
Speaking of Rashford, what are your thoughts on him as a player Ed002?

{Ed002's Note - I tend not to think about young men at all Rosie. Have you got a sister?}

4.) 01 Jul 2016 16:15:00
Good player but i agree with betty and ed on this.

5.) 01 Jul 2016 16:59:08
I do but she doesn't like competition and probably wouldn't get on with all of your wives.

6.) 01 Jul 2016 17:04:36
Rashford isn't ready imo. Who does he have to learn from in training, Rooney, ha? Ibra could be a great thing for the dressing room in my opinion and for Martial/ Rashford/ Depay, it needs shaking up as it is, too many soft people lacking a killer instinct. Besides they have just put up with LVG for 2 years, every day must have been a pride swallowing exercise.

I think Rashford will get a lot of game time in any case, due to the amount of games and Ibra being subbed and rotated for fitness, not to mention we could play with two up from time to time (in my dreams) .

The team needs a figurehead. It was meant to be Rooney, then Schweiny but it just hasn't worked and both for one reason or another, they are not reliable enough to lead by example and dominate a game. Allowing younger players to feel that confidence you only get from having the man with the biggest balls on the pitch on your side, fighting your battles etc, is worth it's weight in goals.

I have no doubt Ibra is coming for a big pay day and experience as you say guys, but so what, a generation ago that was something worthy of criticising, not so much now. 99% of players go to the club paying the most money nowadays, the constant disrespect has made us ignorant or less annoyed when it occurs - power of media!

So a great move for me, but maybe I will be proved wrong.

7.) 01 Jul 2016 17:27:50
We got lvg a couple of years ago and the eds told us the issues he would bring probably with a bit more knowledge of the situation than many on the site .

8.) 01 Jul 2016 17:33:38
I totally agree beast I can only see it doing the club good.

9.) 01 Jul 2016 18:02:23
I agree beast very good post imo.
All transfers are a gamble to some extent. This is not an expensive one relative to others and the upside is potentially huge.
A lot of well respected players that have played with him have great things to say about his comradship and leadership he will bring a winning mentality and in a dressing room sorely lacking in role models for our younger players his presence will inspire them.
Hopefully he rattles a few cages of some of our more arrogant and under performing so called senior players that can only be a good thing. Jose knows him well and knows how he behaves so it holds no fears for me.

10.) 01 Jul 2016 18:36:56
It's hard to say what the dressing room is like or the mentality in it imo.
It's fairly low risk as he is only here for 12 month.
I watched him a lot last season and he is a class act but I think he could struggle in the epl . Pace and work rate will be an issue plus epl cbs are good at marking strikers that go toe to toe with them a lot will depend on how the team sets up .
I think the euros showed he won't do it on his own .

He has reputation for not being a good if any influence with the kids and that's well documented, (have the eds got any opinion on that, or is it just rumour) .
But it's a great bit of marketing and should be entertaining can't wait.

11.) 01 Jul 2016 19:27:30
Well said, Ken. Couldn't agree more.

12.) 01 Jul 2016 19:20:53
Not sure anybody can do it in their own jred.
If the euros showed us that about zlatan what has it shown us about Muller? Ronaldo? lewandowski? Iniesta? None of whom covered themselves in glory.
International football is not a good barometer as its a totally different game to club football. They are all still excelling for their clubs.

13.) 02 Jul 2016 10:50:39
Ken
Really? Reading some of the post other the past weeks i thought zlatan could walk on water.
He is going to teach all the kids lead all the players win us the league .
Joking aside i think some over rate him a bit.

01 Sep 2015 14:25:11
Ed002, if you don't mind, are we still looking at bringing in any one else other than Martial and the youngster Regan Poole?

Still look very short up top and a bit light at the back.

Thanks

panebello

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

05 May 2015 15:19:50
Ed02, been a few reports recently that have suggested Gotze could leave Bayern? Is this true and is he on the market? I think he's a fantastic player and it'd surprise me if Bayern were willing to let him leave.

panebello

{Ed007's Note - You're wanting the Euro page for this kind of stuff.}

1.) 05 May 2015 17:01:08
Talk of him being offered back to Dortmund for Gundogan. I don't see that deal happening and I don't see Gotze leaving Germany. We wouldn't have much use for him as he wouldn't suit the formation.

I've seen you've come out with this tripe before in regards to Smalling Ed01 and it's quite clear you don't rate him. He's been one of, if not the best CB in the league since probably the second half of last season. If you think Stones would be bought to replace Smalling than you're even more deluded than I originally thought.

panebello

{Ed001's Note - yes it is very clear I don't rate him, but it is not me that is deluded bless ya. Only the deluded would believe he has been anywhere near being the best CB in the league. Only the deluded would think Stones would not walk into the team ahead of him any day of the week. Stones is already far better than he is, much as I hate to say that as I don't like to hype up young players who are as much potential as reality. Especially when they play for Everton! Stones is already better though. Smalling was getting torn to shreds yesterday, but I am sure you are still blind to the fact that he had no idea how to cope with Deeney and Ighalo. If he learnt how to position himself properly, then he would be excellent, but he hasn't a clue about it as yesterday clearly demonstrated.

As for tripe, I would reread your own inane ramblings for a better example of it.}

Looks like Ed was right in saying there was a chance of incomings before the end of the day.

'According to our colleagues at VAFC Power, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Ligue 2 side Valenciennes to sign Dayot Upamecano. The 16 year old reportedly joins the Red Devils for €450k, but it could rise to €900k with bonuses.'
