I think it was 1 of our better performances today and we still couldn't beat West Ham at home so says it all really.
We just didn't have the quality to finish them off, none of our attacking players are confident in front of goal and it is understandable after the season we have had and the few chances we have created. Scoring goals is all about confidence.
Few possitives, more attacking performance (hope it continues and improves), Varela and Depay looked good when coming on and. well that's all I can think of!

I agree will. I thought we played some good stuff today. We just are lacking confidence in front of goal.

A new centre forward for Christmas would be a nice surprise.

Simply shows how far our standards have slipped. Moyes would have been booed out of Manchester with a performance like that.

What standards are you judging that performance on Beast?

I thought it was one of our best and most positive halves of the season. As disappointing as it was not to score yet again, we not only dominated the second half we created chances: the shots on goal stat is misleading. With a better understanding, which involves making the right runs, there would have been even more. And, quite unlike some of the more turgid possession based games of late, we did at least come out and try to attack with some urgency. Even Fellaini was running at defenders. Our young forwards, including Memphis when he came on were energetic and effective up to the point of finishing. So, notwithstanding the result, it was an entertaining match.

The plain truth is that at the moment we are simply not good enough. I'm not sure it has much to do with LVG so much as the squad. It doesn't matter what system we play if no one can take a chance.

Standards since 1991 - they have fallen off a cliff over the past 2-3 years.

Shawthing, klopp has shown us all what positive, progressive management looks like (might not last forever as is, but when he adds a few they could be a real force) and I have no doubt our squad is better than their's. So on that note, it's true, our standards have dropped dramatically, to the point where you are impressed with a slightly more spirited than usual, second half performance, against (no offence to the hammers) a second rate team . Me I think our rightful place is up there above all the mediocrity, with the barca's, bayern's and real's, and yes I do mean above the likes of chelski, City and PSG.

Beast, the standards started to slip the season after we lost Ronaldo if we are going back some.

There were times when I watched United in Fergie's last few years, and we couldn't put two passes together. But even then, we had quality up front to get us out of trouble. We don't have that player at the moment. Van Persie more or less won us the title the year we signed him. He was one of the best in the world that year. Before that, Rooney and Berbatov gave us that cutting edge.

For all the criticism and polemics that have been said of Van Gaal, we are, in my opinion, a better footballing team than we have been for a while. We just don't have the cutting edge up front. We don't have that younger Rooney; or a Van Persie in his pomp. We lack top quality in the final third; and until that can be addressed, we will continue to lack goals.

They have been slipping, but this is new low. Some supporters are actually taking positives from that game, I don't blame them because we are desperate for hope, but 2 years ago Moyes would have had effigies burning outside OT if he produced 0-0's like this.

Thanks to the money coming in to all clubs the league has become just a little bit more even. In our best years under SAF we had more money than everyone else and we made it count. Now that's changed. So, yes standards have slipped. I agree with those that think it started when we sold Ronaldo. We simply were not in the market for the top players. Despite protestations to the contrary, I still believe it was related to the cost of the debt service after the Glazer takeover.

It would have been great to have got Klopp but he wasn't available when we had to make a choice, was he? (Can't imagine the uproar if the scousers win the title! )

In effect LVG is having to completely rebuild the club in a climate where our money is no longer as powerful as it once was in the pre-Glazer days. We've bought badly out of desperation, and that's made it worse. It took City a few years and managers to get to the top, and it looks like it will be the same for us. All the whining isn't going to change the fact that our only attackers are very young and will probably need another year or two to reach their potential, while our senior players like Mata, Fellaini and Rooney are simply not good enough.

{Ed025's Note - good post that shawthing..

This time last year we beat West Ham playing good attacking football but the plane was already booked to fly over ot for Moyes. How is this clown still managing to avoid the crap Moyes had to endure? The only positive from today's game is that it's another game nearer to the end for Lvg.

I'd love to have seen what Fergie could have done with £250m in his last few years.
