Well here we are waiting to see who we draw in the knockout stages of the CL still smarting a little bit from yesterday but not completely surprised at the result and the manner of the defeat after Pogba's red card last week.

The league appears gone now for everyone let alone us. Its one yesterday that we are going to have to take on the chin and move on. Bournemouth and West Brom away are now the games we need to be concentrating on. I hate to say it like any other red but defeat against City now is no shame. Yeah we could have played better but many will disagree with me, lady luck was definitely on their side yesterday. 2 years on the bounce now big penalty claims at the Stretford end have gone their way etc, it happens we rode our luck last week at the emirates at times, Lakaku nearly scored in his own net last week.

Its not all doom and gloom, let's see who we get in the draw and if we are still second come the turn of the year I will be pleased. You knew what you were getting with Jose and yesterday was no different. We need to get behind him and Romelu because they are representing our great club. Its easy to find scapegoats in defeat but what would we have all been saying yesterday if Ibra had scored a last minute 1-0 using the same tactics. Apart from the save from Sane I don't remember them creating a cart load of chance so we can't of been that bad.

Well that was painful to watch yesterday. I think the Rooney shot in to Martial's back was the turning point where you knew it was going to end in a draw. They should have nicked it at the end with the Llorente chance.

They look absolutely cream crackered. The 9 game month has took its toll. I started watching the Chelsea game after it and the difference in intensity levels from Chelsea and Everton against us was there for all to see.

I said it after the West Brom and Everton draws that it's Europa or bust and I still stick by that. A well disciplined display similar to the City performance will be required over there and the way we have been setting up we should be ok. Pogba will hopefully be back and Felliani will add a bit of steel away. The Arsenal and Spurs fixtures can look after themselves. The Celta Vigo tie is massive.

Celta are a decent team it's going to be a very hard match especially with a tired team and makeshift back four.

2.) 01 May 2017 10:58:16
Mike. I agree we look very laboured. However, we've got to go to Celta to score goals. Nil nil is not a good result for us.
These lot are there for the taking.

Hi Guys

Look who's back

Well I for one was ecstatic with the transfer window. I am glad that once and for all we have wriggled out of the shackles of Ferguson/Charlton mentality and we are now moving with the times.

You buy cheap you buy twice. I like a lot of United fans have sat here for years watching us buy dross like Kagawa, Valencia, Nani, Anderson, Young. We are Manchester United we should be out there buying the best around at the best prices the club can afford it, but have been obsessed with this youth development nonsense for decades. That works once every preston guild and everyone knows it. Its as black and white as you spend big you gain big.

We are arguably as big as Real Madrid but its them who go out and buy the galactico's I'm sick and tired of it. This guy LVG seem to be the guy for me a bit like Souness did with Rangers in Scotland. Your the biggest Richest Club here why don't you start acting like it.

Let this transfer policy continue and bring us back to the top the very top where this club and its supporters deserve to be

Mike

Mike the Moston Red

1.) Welcome back Mike the Moston Red.
I agree, to be the best you have to buy quality.

2.) I just can't take you seriously if you are labeling Kagawa as 'dross'. One of the best number 10s in Europe during the 2011/12 season, and was a joy to watch with Dortmund. Even Nani and Valencia have had quite a few good seasons with us, Valencia in particular, perhaps you forgot he broke his ankle a few years back and has never fully recovered from what was a nasty injury?

I, like you, am as happy as any other fan about who we have managed to bring in this window. But vilifying players and calling youth development 'nonsense' is downright stupid. Youth development is the back bone of many top European clubs (Barcelona and BM for example), aside from the fact it is hugely important for the game as a whole. Perhaps you are unaware of LVGs successes with other clubs where he used youth to tremendous affect to win trophies?

You honestly think if we spent 150 million every summer we'd be winning treble after treble? Grow up and take a look at the bigger picture.

3.) 03 Sep 2014 14:50:41
So you thought signing Kagawa, the German league player of the year in 2012, was a bad move at the time then did you? He never got a run in his favourite position and so we never saw what he could do, he certainly isn't dross. Also, Anderson had all the attributes to be a true great when we signed him, but with injuries and his love of burgers, he never fulfilled his potential. Nani also had and has the ability to be an excellent player, he is just woefully inconsistent and lazy, how were we to know? I do agree that Young and Valencia weren't good enough and should never have been bought.

4.) 03 Sep 2014 16:57:14
Sorry andy totally disagree Kagawa for us was poor ok you say he didn't get a fair crack but he should be good enough to play anywhere.Valencia had one half decent season.I expect players who play for utd to be 8/10 for nearly every game not 5 or 6 like they have been

5.) Rangers lol is that what you call them, bankrupt

6.) Should be good enough to play anywhere Blackpool Red? On that logic we should throw Falcao into the back 3/4 and Blind up top to terrorize the opposition defense! Think before you type mate!

7.) It might work we played fletcher and carrick as centre backs and played a right back in midfield instead of pogba :)

Good Morning Everybody.

I have not commented on here since the end of last season and needed a break from it all. I am back on here today out of concern.

I think I speak for a lot of United fans when I talk about the appointment of Moyes. I honestly thought that when it was time for Fergie to jack in, we had a top boy in place. We haven't had to pay out a compensation package for a manager since 1986 and think about the money we have not had to spend on that as opposed to other clubs. I expected at least a Mourinho or Guardiola to be coming in. Can you imagine the lift that would have given the club, with the likes of Giggs etc on the coaching staff. The appointment is all about saving money and I like a lot of others are extremely pessimistic about the appointment.

This leads me on to the transfer market, wheres the big marquee signing? We are the Champions of England and arguably the biggest club in the world and we have signed a £1m nobody from South America. We get £60m for winning the premier league, that's a top class signing and wages. Its embarrassing when we are champions and people are talking about our demise. Thiago Alcantara said we didn't even contact him. Fabregas is just embarrassing, its like going to Barca and offering £40m for Messi knowing you won't get him.

What was this 'Urgent Transfer Activity' that Ed Woodward came home from Australia to sort out. It appears Rooney to me because I don't see much else happening. Another season is about to pass by without the quality midfielder we have yearned for. Scholesy has retired again remember. I don't mean to be a prophet of doom and gloom, but there's a saying in football, never stop trying to make yourself better. I am a greedy bloke I want United to win everything, every year and why shouldn't I, me and all other fans deserve it. We need a shot in the arm here and I don't see one coming. The first 6 games are the hardest start to a season I have seen for a long time, we can't even beat Japanese part timers in pre season, needs sorting and needs sorting sharpish, season starts a week Saturday

1.) Mick the moston red
I think you should take another break, Sir Alex missed out on a number of targets whilst in charge the games moved on with all the super wealth involved, remain patient things will fall into place and the squad will be ready to challenge on all fronts once again.
To claim the club are penny pinching is a little harsh and I'm sorry we fans have a part to play but its crucial that the team improves and a good quality of football with pace is reintroduced at OT to get us back on the edge of our seats.
Dylan

2.) Guardiola was a free agent no compo would have been payed so moyes wasnt chose over him because unt had no money what a pessamistic ridiculous post

dave

3.) Moyes was chosen because he works on a tight budget and yes SAF missed out on most targets he went for was it because off money being refused by the glazers

4.) Dave

Guardiola is a proven World Class manager who was available as you say. So why not him instead of Moyes then?

Its money mate they like the idea of Moyes operating on a shoestring and furthermore what's pessimistic and ridiculous about what I have said. Its August 6th with no notable signings to speak of, is that true or not true. Ask yourself this were you doing cartwheels at Moyes appointment.

The bottom line is United couldn't give Guardiola the financial assurances he wanted. He knows where United are at Europe wise?

Wheres the money going? Last year we bought Kagawa and RVP for a combined total of £41m that is still well within United's transfer budget, Nick Powell isn't worth mentioning in terms of summer transfer activity.

If you and Dylan are happy with the situation well good luck to you both I know I'm not. We need to hit the ground running again this year and probably every year. I don't even see us getting much at Swansea first day. £1m on a no mark transfer is not good enough. Look at Madrid, Barca and City this summer all strengthened dramatically whilst we dawdle. Needs addressing and deep down both of you know it.

5.) The moyes appointment is obvious. He's famed for working on a tight budget which is where we are with the money sucking leach Malcolm glazer in charge. Simple as that

Hughesy

6.) Guardiola is a proven manager at Barcelona.

He retired as a player at Barca and then managed the 'B' team before managing the 1st team mid 2008.

He has proved to be very successful at Barca but as yet nowhere else.

7.) Just thinking the same thing no name. with tht barca squad tht guardiola had I could of won the champs league. He hasn't proven anything yet and now he's gone to another talent rich club! so nothing will be really proven there either

Hi Guys,

Well just sobered up now from Monday. Had a heavy one I have to say, started at 5pm on Deansgate and ended up back in town. Rough Tuesday doesn't do it justice.

Well it was the brief at the beginning of the season to get that trophy back at all costs and it was achieved and all credit to the players and staff

I still don't think we will push on for Europe without a top class coach coming in if Ferguson doesn't step down. Phelan up against Mourinho was a mismatch but I have gone on about that before.

Lewandowski heroics last night put him out of our price bracket, but that will depend on whether he wants to come or not and if there is in fact a deal already in place.

I have a feeling Rooney is going to get a chance in midfield and this is why Kagawa has been brought in. I can't see Nani and Anderson lasting much longer. 2 big disappointment's after their first season I have to say and maybe the money generated from their sales may contribute towards another midfielder/winger of quality.

Zaha will be phased in slowly depending on the pre season

So in summary

New Coach
New Midfielder
New Forward

and lastly possibly a new left back maybe Baines

That will have us challenging on all fronts again next year

Enjoy the summer everybody, over and out for the season

1.) How is it mourinho v phelan why not mourinhos assistant and if nani hadn't of been sent off who knows we may have gone through-------------phil

2.) I will admit that Phelan does seem to be a bit of a yes man. Meulensteen seems the one that is good tactically. The backroom set up would be better if it was SAF - Manager, Carlos Quieroz - Assistant, Rene Meulensteen - Head Coach.

So in summary then DLIB nothing looks likely to change anytime soon.

You have suggested a team that may fit the Pep style, but there is about as much chance of Jose playing that team as Shergar leading them on to the pitch serenaded by Elvis.

Ultimately we are left in the same position (8th) with the same boring percentage type football that is driving us all insane as United fans. No one finds it funny anymore. We are close to having a gallows sense of humour here.

Souness put Neville on the spot and he was dead right, why is he not getting the best out of these players? You can take the City game out of the equation. Look at the Bournemouth game last weekend they should have been out of sight again before Tony Marshall scored. Its unacceptable.

No one fears coming to Old Trafford anymore, they fancy themselves and why shouldn't they. You make one of the biggest coups in the transfer market last January make him the best paid player in the premiership and he plays for the last 20 minutes in most games. Its an absolute disgrace.

The owners need to take up the baton here and say why are you not getting the best out of these players and getting us results on a consistent basis, when Guardiola and Klopp are?

If its all down to the manager as you allude to, then surely that is where the change needs to be made. Percentage Pragmatic Football, Its isn't working here it just isn't. This conversation is exactly the same as we had last December after we were beat by them at OT. Everyone watching a derby at OT where we looked like the away team with no spirit or pride in the jersey.

Everyone is sick to death of it. I phone mates up to see if they fancy coming watching it in the pub and the response you get is why would I want to spoil a nice afternoon's drinking watching that dross. Its not just me here, its most people you speak to.

I couldn't care less about his past record, I want a rosy future like City have got under Pep and Liverpool under Klopp, your past counts for nothing in modern football. Change needed and quickly for me.

Hi Guys

So its Tuesday, we have got Monday out of the way so time for some reflection on the weekend without the raw emotion attached.

For me the table doesn't lie it was 1st against 8th, so was it really that much of a surprise the result. The victory there in April was just a fluke, they should of been out of sight after 40 minutes.

Sunday showed me what I probably already knew. Their are leaps and bounds ahead as far as we are concerned in terms of comparison. They have everything in place now, the coach, the money, the players, the infrastructure, no one can dispute that.

What shocks me as a United fan is how we have allowed this to materialise and not moved with it. Anyone who know's me know's I don't buy this lack of support from the owners rubbish. A lot of responsibility here lies with the footballing operation at the club.

I look in comparison now dare I say it with the Scousers and them lot. Look at the comparisons in professionalism from top to bottom. You have Klopp and Pep, animated managers getting the best out of their players. All we have is a bloke who stands there pulling silly faces at the camera and cupping his ear after the odd fluky uninspiring win (Turin)

Wheres the structure, Wheres the professionalism that was once commonplace at our club under our greatest managers Busby and Ferguson. We have a manager now who stays and the Lowrey and can check out anytime he wants. what's that all about, we can't even turn up for our home games on time. What are we becoming here.

We're the laughing stock of football at the minute and rightly so. Millions and Millions spent on players who couldn't care less about us. And fans who just want to blame everything on your owner or Ed Woodward. You just can't keep pointing the finger at them. Ferguson's stubborn stand off with the press proving he could win it with average Joes. Where was the planning for the future in that exercise?

Wheres our director of football? Who is advising the owners on what's best for the club and the best way to do it? Its an absolute shambles and this won't get any better without change. We can't keep letting these managers run down the season to the point of mathematical impossibility of top four. We need to act now.

Sam Allardyce could get as much out of this team as Mourinho, its disgraceful football and an unprofessional set up in terms of the footballing operation. Let the Glazers and Woodward do what they do best on the commercial side, you can't fault them where revenue is concerned.

Would you back Mourinho again after Fred. I know I wouldn't . Take action now for me or you can forget top four. Its probably gone already.

Top post Dan. Sums it up perfectly. You talk of atmosphere just look again at the Camp Nou the other night against Chelsea. It was a joy to behold 95000 Catalonians singing there hearts out waving flags. At OT we get the out little screech before kick off in the bigger games, but that about as good as it gets. I don’t remember a decent atmosphere since the semi against Barcelona in 2008.

The main crux of most of this for me personally particularly this season ion these pages especially is the stark realisation of what’s being served up across the road. We’ve never played anything like that and our most entertaining side was the 94’ one.

It’s a dark period we are going to have to get through unfortunately the problem we have is that Mourinho as well as ofher managers don’t really have any answer to it. Who’is there out there if Mourinho go’s.

Hi all its Mike you favourite Moston Red

Okay I’ve read a lot of what's been put on here over the past few days and feel the need to speak

I get your all up in arms at the moment, over let's face it the bile churning prospect of them lot winning the lot. The Glazer blame brigade are out in force again, yawn yawn yawn. The blame everybody apart from Ferguson etc brigade are out in force again, I could go on and on.

We are second in the league, would we be bringing the Glazers in to it again if Chelsea were top and running away with it like they were last year, Probably not. The fact of the matter is Guardiola’s philosophy appears to have clicked all of sudden with the acquisition of full backs who have sensational recovery runs in them. This is exactly what they lacked last year with Zabaletta and Kolarov not up to it. They’ve blazed a trail that none of us could match. Not just Jose, I’m talking Klopp, Conte, Pochettino etc. Anyway enough sunshine blown up their you know what.

January. What serious business is done in January, other than the odd sensation here and there. We signed Mata that year on the back of the embarrassing transition and transfer window in Summer 2013. I don’t realistically expect anyone to be brought in, but you never know. It can upset your squad as we know. We all remember the Asprilla signing at Newcastle that year.

I get sick of hearing about City are leaving us for dead etc. Well if they are we are not on our own. United has an infrastructure that is up there with the best there is. We have state of the art training facilities, that were there long before the Emptysad Campus in Beswick. They had to spend billions to just get near us in that respect and will have to spend more to get near us in terms of honours.

I think a lot of people here are emotional wrecks at the minute over nothing. Manchester United are a very well run football club, that makes a lot of money and money has been proven over the past few years to be spent. You can’t level that at the owners. They have probably spent close to Citys and Chelsea’s owners.

We are not going to win the league every year now its over, get over it. City won’t win it every year or Chelsea or Liverpool etc. I was glad we won the cup in 2016 and the trophies we won last year. So if we don’t win anything this year, we won’t be the only club.

Jose is no fool and it’s a brave man or woman who thinks otherwise. We lost Pogba for important periods this year and any team losing him, it would have a big impact. He’s back fit now and there are still 2 trophies to win as well as a top four spot to play for. We may yet finish the season with our cheeky grins in tact.
