My takes on the game yesterday. We need to be playing with a CF and that Bruno struggled, losing possession often and passing poorly. His performance reminded me of the Europa final. I really think we would be better off if he and we took the money from Saudi giving us the wherewithal to speed up the reinvestment process, particularly in defensive misdfield. There were some fast paced and excellent attacking plays which continued pre-season's sense of hope of a more productive goal scoring team, but we still looked very vulnerable at the back. Yoro and Heaven are promising talents but they are still very young.

I think our biggest problem last night was the left hand side of dalot and Shaw being so negative with there passing.
Ever ball received by Shaw went flat to dalot then back to Shaw over to de ligt there was no forward momentum.
Ugarte was then dragged back to pick the ball up in the position that Shaw should be meaning we lacked width on the left and numbers in midfield Everton were very easily able to just keep a block on the halfway line and overload the left.
I think Shaw and dalot showed there weakness last night with there slowness on the ball.
Move to the other side and yoro on 3 occasions I can remember clearly took 3 strides forward and opened up the pitch one of which lead to the quick move that won the penalty .
For me Shaw and dalot are very tactically limited and not suited to the system others might think different but ugarte got dragged into there short comings which in turn showed up his only my take.

Bruno lacks discipline, he has done for years, he’s also a very very busy player in the press but he’s fairly ineffective. We’re going to have the same problem as the last five years where opposition players run through our midfield, the defence will get blamed as per usual. In a two man pivot you need two very tactically disciplined players.

That £118m or whatever it was gets you a very very good left footed CM/ CDM that can play with both Mainoo and Ugarte depending on how you want to set up.

I’m still perplexed as to why we haven’t cashed in. It doesn’t make any sense.

It's always the same with Bruno recently. He's carried us for years. Our best player by far. But any time he has a bad game, and he did last night, people say we should cash in.

Bruno has carried us through a long period of mediocrity as a team. Is there a connection? Perhaps if we're really planning on becoming a top challenger we need to reconsider who we are relying on. I'm not saying Bruno is a bad player - he's not, we may well miss him depending on who replaces him - I'm just saying the team needs something else. I always remember when we sold RVN and bought Carrick. People asked where would our goals come from. Well the following season we scored more without him. It's a team game where success is based on the total being more than the sum of the parts.

The other thing that well run clubs do is sell players at the top and replace them with less expensive ones who will seed the future. Clough and Taylor were experts at this. Sell at the top, buy at the bottom. You make a profit on trading and y9ou don't get left holding expensive wasting assets.

Clough and Taylor your harping back 40 years times have changed in case you did not notice! I know. We are 5-10 years behind other teams but harping back 40 is beyond a joke…
Jesus Mainoo and Ugarte in midfield with another, we will get trounced every week, one who is headless chicken, slow and can’t pass a ball and Mainoo who unless he turned into superman over the summer is not very mobile, no pace no legs. If that’s what we pinning our hopes on it’s going to be another very long season…
Ugarte or Mainoo won’t even get in the team in front of Cass.

Really? Clough bought many top, expensive players. Trevor Francis, Peter Shilton, Teddy Sherringham, etc. Spending millions!

I've been critical of Bruno for a while. Mostly of his on-field behaviour, and the example he sets to our youngsters.

However I also think he's overrated as a player. His pressing is aggressive but ineffective, and while the accuracy of his passing is good, his vision is lacking, and his inability to spot his teammates making runs has been hurting us for a while. He is simply not a playmaker, and if he isn't playing as a number 10 where he can contribute goals, and create space simply by offering that goal threat, I don't see a place for him.

He isn't a playmaker, and he doesn't press well. He is a goalscorer and an OK set piece special-ist. And he is at an age where he isn't improving and his value is only going to drop. He should have been encouraged to take the move, because that money would have done far more for us than he will.

Yes, he was our best player, or at least one of our best players, for a few seasons, but that says more about the rest of the team than it does about him, and it isn't the case anymore.

thorne you state he has no vision and isn't a playmaker?

Since he join the prem he has creates the most chances well more than de bryner. he also scored more. He I think 5 out of the last 6 season he has created the most chances in europe.
