You won't convince me that any position needs addressing more than the goalkeeper.
It wasn't the defence or midfield that threw the game for us yesterday. Neither was it any outfield player that won the game for Arsenal. Raya won the game for them.

Goalies make mistakes, Raya has made plenty in his time. Altay should have been stronger, but we had a number of chances and should have converted one.

Different thoughts on going for another midfielder. If we are dead set on Baleba whether this year or next then should we use the money to bring in a different style of midfielder (or other position) that will work well with Baleba next season (if we get him) .
Or we are working on a profile need and we go like for like and then not go for Baleba next year.
Personally I think it is the former especially with the other names mentioned who are very different to Baleba. Some noise (whether true or not) that see a long term combination of Baleba/ Wharton as HM when Fenandes leaves possibly next year.
Will be interesting on the GK front, does Amorim rate/ or think he will suffice this year and happy to go with what we have. does he see something in Bayindir to allow him to get through some of his teathing issues (remember De Gea had these issues when he first came in as number 1). If none of the above and he wants to bring someone in then who is there and can we afford/ make it happen. Personally thought a loan offer for Lunin at Real Madrid made sense but who knows now.

I think a midfielder is a priority this summer tbh.
Casemiro still by far our best midfield option but his legs are gone and he on more than one occasion was just passed by with ease by quicker players
Ugarte has been poor since back end of last season and doesn't seem to do anything particularly well
Collyer off to west brom might mean next summer he could be gone for profit purposes
Bruno I feel will go to Saudi next year
Kobbie mainoo doesn't seem to be as highly rated by amroim as by the fans
I can see Bruno casemiro and ugarte been moved on if offers are right next summer leaving us very light in midfield.
Lets face it collyer is a squad player at best and might be sacrificed.
Mainoo might be a victim or a manager who doesn't rate him like so many others.
We really aren't good enough in it and Bruno is never a number 8 as much as we all want him to be.
He spent most of yesterday anonymous in midfield playing in a position mostly getting in Cunha and mounts way.

Got to feel for Bayindir his distribution was pretty good and made a big contribution. As for strength saliba is a big unit has zero interest in the ball and is just trying to create a path for it, you d have to be some keeper to battle him one handed whilst keeping your eye on the ball and making a save with the other. 100% a foul. The refs really need to sort this., more akin to American football.

There’s a difference between keepers making mistakes, and just not being good enough.
Neither of our two keepers are, or ever will be, good enough for a team hoping to compete at the top level. The idea that our defence should be prioritised before a keeper is ridiculous. The keeper is the foundation of a good defence because when defenders don’t trust their keeper it disrupts everything.
In my opinion, getting a new keeper should be the primary goal before the window closes. Yes, the midfield and defence can be improved, but we won’t be better than mid table if we don’t sign a keeper.

Many people said the same about DeGea when he first arrived and was making many mistakes. Keepers need time between the sticks. Onana has had a couple of seasons and is clearly pants. Bayindir has had very few games and perhaps a run of games will give him some confidence. Just a shame for him, and us that he has made mistakes in these few games so confidence in him is quite rightly low at this stage.
Basically either keeper is unlikely to be any good moving forward and there is little or no difference between them so why not let Altay have a few consecutive games for a change whilst we find the custodian we need.
