Hi ed, hope you are well, i saw yesterday that we may be back in for josh King, was just wondering if we have different striker targets atm as opposed to the update a few weeks ago .

Thanks 👍.

{Ed002's Note - Josh King (S) Manchester United failed to sign King in January and may well return. Aston Villa have an interest in taking Josh King. Enquiries have been made by other sides including Leeds and Spurs - but went no further.}

Probably would be an easy transfer to make given who his agent is and the connections he already has. Not sure if it would be the right move though. If he were to be signed, it would surely signal the end for Ighalo.

Deano / angel.
If we signed king he would be back up for striker and wide forward.
It would appear that ighalo would be gone in jan if we sign king.
But we simply cannot keep adding players. We do need to shift some out. Romero? Dalot? Smalling? Jones? Rojo? Mata? Jesse? Unless we shift some or all of these guys out it will be very difficult to get me signings in as there is no space or wages available. 700 to 800k a week for that lot and if they play 20 games between them next season i'd be surprised.

I agree Ken, the reason I asked about King was my assumption that ighalo will leave in January, i'm hopeful that we will move on quite a few in the next few weeks and replace them with one or 2 of good quality.

King is average if thst, infact why don't we look at deeney?

We should be looking a players to improve us. King is no better than ighalo and if ighalo is leaving in jan we jeed to be looking at aomeone to give martial a run.

Ighalo a big tall target man type striker who can hold the ball up and bring others into play. While I can see the benefit of having an Ighalo type striker as a plan B, I'm not so sure that type of striker actually suits us.

If you look at our forwards we have Rashford, James, Martial and Greenwood, add to that both Bruno and DvdB who play their best football around the box we actually have a front four who can all play in every position either wide either side, as a centre forward or in the No.10 area. This allows for a lot of positional rotation and movement of these players picking up space and swapping positions temporarily. Chucking a big target man up front who isn't as mobile or positionally flexible limits the whole attack.

While Josh King wouldn't be a player I'd have high on my list he is a player who fits well with the rest of our attacking players in that he can play anywhere across the front line, is quick and has actually come through our academy so knows the club well. Also he would be happy with a squad role allowing rotation without a change in tactics.

Agreed ken. More need to be moved on.

And if we are looking to add squad depth, could we do better than King?

We could possibly do better angel, I agree on that, I just get the impression there is a long term plan where the striker we actually want won't be available for some time so we go after round pegs for round holes until we are able to get preferred choices, king would be cheap, wants to join and knows the ethos of the club, so as far as we could do better, we could also do worse 🤷‍♂️.

It friend angel. Imo if king and sancho signed he would become
3rd choice striker behind martial and greenwood
3rd choice right side behind sancho and greenwood
3rd choice left side behind rashford and James.
So as a 3rd choice in a variety if positions i think he is capable. In his prime. Good experience. Knows the club well. Ole coached him as a kid. Good pace. Can do a good job. Could make an impact off the bench.
Very good 3rd choice or squad depth player at 18m and cost less than half what ighalo get a week.

Not sure where this thought that Ighalo is a ‘big tall target man’ last time I checked he was 5”11 the same height as Anthony Martial. He might not be the Best choice but saying he’s a big target man is doing him a disservice. His footwork and hold up play aren’t bad, when the ball is played into him it sticks and he brings other players into the game. I’d rather keep him than sign King but at the same time I’d rather have neither and sign some proper competition for Tony. Seems short to mid term we don’t have the money or the player isn’t available. We wanted Haaland and I think he’s the long term target for Ole with his release clause and nationality being a major factor I just feel we won’t sign in when the time comes due to competition from Real Madrid.

Josh King has always been a menace whenever our defence have faced him.

He is physically really tough and has good pace.
Definitely suits our attack and he'll be happy to be a squad player.

Add to that he's a United fan.
