Hi all I’ve been reading this site on and off for what seems 7/ 8 years (not exactly sure how long)

I just wanted to put across my reaction to the follow up statement of the Maguire verdict by him and the club.

Both Maguire and the club have come out and seem 100% confident on Maguires verdict being overturned under appeal and even used the words “fair trial”.

I understand that he’s been found guilty however as someone that’s Admittedly been through naughty times in their life Via courts etc I can personally say the fact that the defence team asked for the trial to be adjourned and that denied followed by a very fast and almost instant verdict of guilty makes me think that potentially this isn’t as cut and dry as it first seems.

If this was the case I’d have fully expected the club and player to have completely different responses to the ones we’ve seen today.

I will hold all judgment on the situation until the appeal has been filed and heard as I believe that is when we will have the true period of events instead of rumours and stories also especially considering I’ve seen many cases overturned over the years.

To the people saying others would be locked up etc for this sort of thing. don’t be so naive. I’ve seen a lot worse in my life and people have had a slap on the wrist and a fine or a few hours community service. He’s a professional footballer and a role model but that doesn’t Warrant extra punishment to what an average Joe would receive.

Let’s see what Happens under appeal and in the mean time to keep the attention off him so much i'd strip Maguire of captaincy to let him concentrate on his game.

All in all I understand why people have took the verdict and that’s it in their opinion but there’s two sides to every story and justice systems don’t always get it right so let’s see how the appeal goes.

Cheers

P. S - Ed pull your finger out and get some deals done please.

George very good post that, I agree I don't think this will be the end of it either .
I'm personally not going to get the knives out just yet .

But honestly I think that's a very good and balanced pist.

I can assure you, if you or me did it, with a clear record, we would not be treated any differently.

Certainly not in this country, and I'm assuming not in Greece either. It's a modern European state, not Venezuela. Fine, community service, maybe a caution at most.

As for Maguire, I'm sure there will be an appeal, and at the end of the day, only Harry and the police officer will know if a bribe was offered. No body worn police cameras, mobile phone footage etc come to light yet, so I would have thought it would be very difficult to prove that particular offence.

Very quick trial doesn't really lend itself to giving him much time to mount a proper defence. I'm sure any appeal will probably reveal more.

For bribery of a police officer Nou? That's extremely serious.

It used to be normal in Greece.

Until the European Union stepped it it was the norm to bribe the institutions to get around paying tax!

So please calm down.
It could very possibly be the case that the officers were looking to be bribed and are pissed they couldn’t milk a rich foreigner.

I’m not fighting anyone corner, just trying to add some perspective here.

I’ll definitely wait for the appeal and the verdict there before taking sides here.

Are we signing Messi? With the wages from Sanchez topped up a little maybe? 😂.

You still need evidence, Angel. It looks like it's one person's word against the other for that particular offence. Very hard to prove, unless there were other witnesses, cameras with audio etc. Even then, they'd have to prove it was anything more sinister than a drunken, offish boast said in the heat of the moment. I'd guess that will be the more likely one to be dropped in any appeal. Though I'll hold my hands up, I'm only going by what it would likely be over here. Greek law isn't one of my specialities 😁.

Angel - I’m not sure where you are coming from with this bribery being extreme.

It happens every weekend in England and every student night In the week. Just give young adults alcohol and as soon as their in trouble a lot of them will try and drunkenly try to buy the officer out of taking them to the station etc instead trying to get a slap on the wrist and sent home.

I’ve done it myself drunk and sober in my younger years and most policeman just laugh it off. Never have I once been charged with attempting bribery etc.

One of my best friends is a police Sargent in the city i live and he laughed at the report and his words were “a camera should follow me around at the weekend as it happens so much”.

Again I’m not condoning it and I think Maguire in his position should be acting with a little more caution and care with how high profile he his but to say it’s extreme is massively wide of the mark.

The thing with bribery though George is the average joe drunk out in the streets might offer a police officer £100 to let em go. 0% chance of an officer risking their career for that. Harry could offer that cop anywhere between 10-100k easily as a bribe which would be taken far more seriously.

Fuser, you'd be surprised at just who can get arrested for being a drunken idiot these days, mate. It's not just Dave from the local garage out with his mates on a Saturday night. Plenty of rich, entitled twits out there as well, who can't handle their drink.
