So Alcantara to Liverpool is done.
Perfect player to play those pin point passes to Mane and Salah.

Bale to Spurs is a statement signing from Levy.
Doherty, Reguilon are good upgrades for their fullback positions.

Hope United get atleast 2 top players possibly Sancho and Upamecano.

Will Woodward surprise us and bring in quality players in the next 2 weeks or will they hold back and be satisfied as we are in CL now.

if we was getting sancho we would have got him by now. this is a smoke screen for the good old no value in the market, even worse due to C.V.

Bolger, we tend to get linked to around 87,765,423 players every single damn transfer window.

We can't be interested in all of them, although saying that didn't Woodward suggest we scouted 900 RB before signing AWB? So maybe we have scouted all the players we are linked with.

Either way the key areas of weaknesses identified was RW and depth in CAM. Sancho and Grealish were the targets. Grealish was dropped in favour of DvdB who I think is twice the player at half the cost. While Sancho is still a possibility.

LB was an area that was considered before Williams broke through, while it might still be an area under consideration.

CDM was an area we were considering, but Matic found form and he was given a new deal meaning we aren't focusing on a midfielder again for a while with Matic, McTominay and Fred offering defensive nous, and Pogba, Bruno and DvdB offering creative threat. While we have Garner, Levitt and Mejbri coming through the academy who might be able to offer new options in a year or twos time.

CB is an area most fans would like to see something happen, most aren't convinced by Maguire and Lindelof. Yet with Jones, Smalling, Bailly, Rojo, Tuanzebe and Mengi coming up from the Academy that's 8 first team players for two starting positions. We would need to shift 3 or 4 at least before we could look to sign someone. No team needs 9 CB's.

Striker is another area we could look to strengthen, but with Martial hitting form, along with the likes of Rashford, Greenwood and Ighalo offering depth it isn't a vital area. Ighalo covers short term cover, Greenwood long term. Rashford in a pinch. We would only really be looking at a third choice replacement for Ighalo, maybe someone like Josh King if that floats your boat.

So how has this window become a farce?

We have two key areas to strengthen, with DvdB signed we have covered one area. The club still seem to be trying to work something out with Sancho. A LB would be a bonus, Reguilon was looked at only after he was offered to the club. But United weren't prepared to include the buy back option that both Real Madrid and Reguilon himself wanted. We could sign Alex Telles or Vitaliy Mykolenko who would offer us depth at LB. Which would be a bonus signing more than anything.

Ideally the club needs to shift several players before we could look to strengthen further, meaning a CB could be looked at next summer depending on what happens with our current players. I doubt we'll look at midfield again for a couple of seasons.

Beyond that we might look at a wide forward or a striker for depth next summer depending on where Greenwood's future will ultimately lie. Although if the deal for Filip Stevanovic goes through we might have an outstanding young wide attacker already at the club.

The club is actually in a very good position long term, we have a good squad with young developing players, while our academy looks like it might throw out a few more players on the not so distant future, while we have added loads of more top level young talent to our academy this summer, which in 3-5 years time might pay off handsomely.

Don't let the press get your head in a spin, we were never in for players like Thiago or 99% of the names mentioned in the press. They just love a United beaten to xxx type story.

Ed047, who was gagging for us to sign Thiago? Was it the fans or the club? I have seen very little from the club this season that suggests they had even a passing interest in the player.

Where would he play? We have Pogba who doesn't look like he is going anywhere, we have Bruno who looks class. While we signed DvdB three weeks ago for 10m more than Thiago went for. I really don't think the club had a serious interest in him this summer. We have in the past, particularly before he went to Bayern.

However, the press linked him and many fans jumped on that and wanted him.

Can you honestly say if we have strengthened our first XI going into the new season?
The answer is NO.

The decision makers are letting the manager down once again.
As Ed said our transfer dealings are amateurish.

Ed047, even if Shappy wanted him or was (gagging), I can only presume this was when he was 24/ 25? We would like him on a short term deal, but Liverpool have got him. I prefer DVB to be long term.

{Ed047's Note - Shappy has a habit of just saying what suits the moment, despite what he may have said before.

I really have no interest in who he’s gone to, was possibly going to, didn’t go to or any other variables surrounding his transfer.

Ed047, I wouldn'y say I was gagging for him. I rated him very highly, I still do. I just don't see the need for him, while he would be our best midfielder, we currently have Pogba, Bruno, DvdB, Matic, Fred and McTominay. As such he certainly isn't a priority.

Simply put when I wanted us to sign Thiago our midfield consisted of Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Cleverley and Anderson. Fletcher had question marks over his health, Giggs was 37, while Anderson and Cleverley were Anderson and Cleverley. Thiago would have hugely improved us. We got Fellaini instead.
