Do you think the United board will sit down this morning, look at our transfer activity over the last few months and think good job?

I think they might.

- they’ve added a very good and desperately needed left back
- a proven back up striker who is a huge upgrade on Ighalo to add condition to Martial
- two of the most sought after and highly rated youngsters in the game
- sold Smalling
- Andreas gone

Also don’t forget the domestic window is still open so still time to sell more players, or even bring one more in.

Ps for me it’s been average. Glaring issues at centre half still - but I think that’s more the coaching.

Even Alastair Campbell couldn't spin them out of this debacle.

Complete and utter shambles!

Cavani. Massively injury prone and been declining for years.
Two of the most sought after youngsters? One couldn't even get in the Atlanta team at 18 years old. The other no ones heard of.
Smalling sold when you should of kept as he's your best defender
Andrea's gone on loan when you should of sold on a permanent.

Brilliant window.

Before the window we wanted 4 key areas to be addressed.
Right Wing, Defensive Midfield, Centre back and Left back.

Only LB position has been addressed as far as the starting XI is concerned.

I'd give a 2/ 10 for this window, that too just for VDB who will be a good long term signing for us.

Andreas is a loan to buy option. Let’s not get all romantic about Smalling. He’s terrible.

I guess the money men will say we spent £80m on a CB last summer plus £50m on a RB, we’ve added a quality LB, and you want even more?

7.) 06 Oct 2020
06 Oct 2020 08:42:47
I just don't understand how they can do nothing all summer, basically since March, and sign four players on deadline day. Do they believe it's like prime day or black Friday? Players go cheaper. (Ignoring that we potentially upgraded LB, RW and have cover at CF) The club is a sh! t show.

PS - Most fans have woken up this morning thinking this I would imagine -

- We've added a Brazilian left back with no experience of the premier league whose best attributes are his attacking instincts to a disorganised and leaking defence that has already shipped 11 goals in 3 games.
- The proven striker hasn't played a competitive game for nearly 7 months, he's been perpetually injured for the last 2 years and at almost 34 years old is now well past his best.
- The two most highly rated youngsters in the world have less than 30 games of competitive football between them. They are no where near ready for first team football especially at a Club with enormous pressure, expectation and needs them to make a significant impact immediately.
- There is an argument that we've actually sold our best centre half for less than €20m euros.
- Pereira has only gone out on loan. The enlightened know he's bang average and in 12 months it's highly likely he'll be sent back to the Club. There is no obligation to buy.
- Lingard, Rojo, Jones and Romaro all remain at the Club pocketing a weekly wage of almost £500k per week. Most of them will not play any football this season.

- WE'VE FAILED TO SIGN OUR No1 TRANSFER PRIORITY THAT WE CHASED ALL SUMMER and DIDN'T USE THE MONEY TO STRENGTHEN OTHER PARTS OF THE TEAM
- WE'VE NOT SIGNED A RW, DCM, OR CB
- WE'VE NOT IMPROVED THE STARTING 11.

{Ed025's Note - yeah but besides that are you happy with this window DLIB.. :)

Left Back yes good job.
From there it goes downhill and fast.

Cavani - if you're going to buy a striker, buy one that is going to compete with the current striker for years to come. This Cavani signing is pure panic to the maximum. He's not wanted, he's a signing to please the manager to try and get him some bodies in. A 34 year old, injury prone, almost been, coming in to try and win you the league, or a cup? No chance.

The other 2 young lads we cannot put any pressure on them, they are not ready and ones coming in January.

Overall this window like the year Jose got sacked was a total sh! t show. Funny enough Ole has been told to book his ideas up otherwise Pochettino is going to replace him (daily fail) .
Is it a case once more the money men don't have faith in the manager to spew all the funds?

Ok they spent most of there time chasing Sancho Or at least that’s what the media wanted us to believe, but perhaps we didn’t see the value like the Ed’s said he would cost a bomb which made other clubs step back, maybe Ed, judge and whoever is involved are learning slowly (doubtful but who knows) . You have to ask why was no one else chasing Sancho? Why did we have a free run at him?

I for one am quite excited about the signings we made 2 youngsters who are highly thought of, an experienced striker that I think is a must. An attacking fullback who has goals and assists in him.

I see everyone saying Traore and pellestri are too young, what’s Sancho 20? Ok he’s played in a more competitive league but still if your good enough your old enough.

Ideally a CB was needed but maybe the board sees how much Ole has spent on the defence perhaps the put a stop to that. (Again who knows)

Anyway I’m getting behind these new signings and can’t wait to see them in action.

Ed025 - As you can probably tell I'm absolutely furious and no positive spin can make me feel any better. The entire window has been a complete and utter shambles in my opinion and with all the negativity surrounding the Club I've no idea how Ole is going to navigate us through a very challenging fixture list after the international break.

The only way I can see us having any kind of success is if we play on the counter against the majority of those teams or Ole coming up with something more radical which I just don't think he'll do. I worry he's going to take some fierce criticism over the next few weeks.

We were sold a vision of a cultural re-set and then throw money at Cavani and give him the No7 shirt. I feel sorry for the two kids, ultimately they might be decent acquisitions and if we'd got them in addition to other established players then it makes more sense but some fans will expect theses kids to make an immediate impact in the first team at one of the biggest Clubs in the world that supposedly has aspirations to win the title. If people can't see the stupidity of that then they only add fuel to the incompetence of the decision makers at the Club.

At this juncture I think we'll be looking for a new manager by Christmas and almost certainly by the end of the season. No doubt some fans will take great delight in that but managerial change is not a cure to the disease that is slowly killing one of the biggest and must famous Clubs in the world.

Discountdave has just proved my point, Sancho is an established international, he's been a regular starter at one of the biggest Clubs in Europe for the past 3 years in a highly competitive league where he scored 17 league goals last season. He can't be compared to two youngsters that have hardly played any competitive football and have only scored 2 competitive goals between them no matter how talented they might be. One of them isn't even coming until January. I'd be amazed if they made any kind of impact on the first team this season. You can't throw young kids into a struggling side and expect them to make the difference for one of the biggest Clubs in the world. In my opinion we should completely forget about them for the time being, let them settle into their new surroundings and come to terms with the enormity of signing for the Club.

{Ed025's Note - i totally agree with you DLIB its been a disaserous window for united, i dont know what the powers that be are doing but whatever it is its making a mockery of one of the biggest clubs on the planet, you wanted sancho but were not prepared to pay the asking price so should have looked elsewhere, instead you persued him for the entire window hoping dortmund would put a whoopsie sticker on him at the last minute but they never, its left the club a laughing stock if im honest. ole has lost credibility for me and although im far from a jose fan at least he had the balls to walk away when his position became untenable, i honestly dont know wher you go from here mate, start again and its another 3 years in the wilderness, or stick with ole and hope he gets it right?, i really feel for the supporters and hope it improves for you, the prem needs a strong united team but for the life of me i cant see when that is likely to be...good luck..

"Before the window we wanted 4 key areas to be addressed.
Right Wing, Defensive Midfield, Centre back and Left back. "

Where do you guys get stuff like this?

CB was never a priority, at best it was an area the club might have looked at if they managed to shift at least 3 of the CBs we already had.

CDM was never really even looked at. The club looked at CMs who might be brought in if Pogba was sold, but that's it.

The clubs priorities (based on what the club has actually said combined with the players they have actually shown serious interest in) where a right winger and a versatile CAM like Grealish or VDB who could cover for Bruno and also for Pogba at CM, and I believe the club ideally wanted them to be able to cover LW if needed. Those were the top 2 priorities. LB was a clear third, and a striker was something the club seemed to be looking at, but only as a low priority.

So far the club have signed the CAM, LB and striker. It's going to be a bit of a dissapointment if we don't get a RW, but there is still time to sign someone, and several of the players the club have looked at are still possibilities. If we get a decent player in to rotate with Greenwood at RW, this will have been a pretty decent window, even if not as good as we might have liked.

Anyone who thinks it is a bad window because we didn't get the CB or CDM we were never even in for needs to stop playing football manager.

{Ed025's Note - if they were not looking for a CB thorne then you have to ask yourself why?, lindelof and maguire are a joke and bailly is hardly an upgrade, supporters are frustrated because its as plain of day where the weakness,s are mate, as an outsider i would say you need to get rid of the players with attitude as well, ditch pogba and martial for me, very good players in their own right but dont adhere to the team ethic which is the biggest thing missing at united, just my view of course..

14.) 06 Oct 2020
06 Oct 2020 12:50:28
Why? That's pretty easy. Because we have too many CBs already, most of whom are going to be difficult to move on. Even assuming they take a modest wage cut, no-one is going to pay them the sort of money they'll be after for players who either aren't that good or are massively injury prone.

I wasn't necessarily agreeing with the club's strategy, just pointing out that we got 3 of our 4 main priorities (and could still get the other), and that we were never in for a CDM, while CB was always highly conditional, so complaining that we didn't sign either of them is ridiculous.

The way we have done it is ridiculous and amateurish in the extreme, but if we get someone like Sarr in to rotate/ compete with Greenwood, I'll be reasonably happy with the transfers we've done.

06 Oct 2020 14:12:51
Ed025 we made a good unbeaten run last year but at the end of the season players were tired and we all agreed at time that the priorities are another CAM to rotate with Bruno and one more attacker to rotate with our trident. We renewed Matics contract so DM was not a priority and with Shaws injuries we had a look at lb too.
I said many times that it is not the way forward, we don't only want players for squad depth but for first eleven and that our manager is not smart and proactive enough to understand that good fullbacks who provide asists and a top midfield who distacte the tempo must be priorities. That he only thinks creativity comes from creators, that's why his priority was another AM and that he should create a team in which creativity comes from all over the place and play good and fast football, fast transition and fast move of the ball in order to find our oponent open and find space, like say Liverpool who don't have 2-3 creators at the middle to create.
But that's me and my priorities who are different to Oles. At the time Ole wanted a RW and an AM and all fans agreed with that, but suddenly they want more.
