Ed002,

What options are MU looking at for the CB position?

Cheers.

discountdave

{Ed002's Note - Kim Min-jae (CB) Napoli are not looking to sell but there is interest from Manchester United, Bayern Munich, PSG and possibly still Spurs. Potential Laporte replacement at Manchester City. Newcastle offer an unlikely option. Agents have spoken with Chelsea and Manchester City. He has a €70M release clause that could attract other clubs as well. Don't rule out Bayern Munich pushing as they are still short a CB.
Perr Schuurs (CB) Only signed from Ajax last summer and an enquiry from Spurs was met with a not for sale - but a €50m offer would make them listen. I doubt any club would value him at half that but Newcastle, Manchester United, and ten Hag knows him well, and Liverpool have sent scouts.
Goncalo Inacio (CB) Watched by scouts from a number of PL sides, including Liverpool and Manchester United, with the latter declaring an interest. The other side to declare an interest is PSG. Real Madrid offer a wildcard option. Sporting would rather not sell and are looking to a new contract and an increased release clause.
Pau Torres (CB) Villareal are stll struggling financially and will sell at the right price. Manchester City had him as an option and they still need a major CB addition but interest may have waned. Manchester United had him as first choice, but purchased Varane instead but may chase again with departures imminent. Barcelona has a sustained interest but price will likely be an issue and they may look to horse trade some players - but priorities will be elsewhere. Bayern Munich, chelsea and PSG interest has moved on. Real Madrid wanted Torres to replace Ramos but do not want to get in to an auction. Spurs have had sustained interest since Mr Mourinho was coach - and have spoken with the club. Aston Villa offer an unlikely option. Any interest of Arsenal will depend on departures.
Alessandro Bastoni (CB) On the list for Chelsea but behind Gvardiol. Spurs interest may remain due to Paritici. Both Manchester Clubs are interested if he becomes available although Manchester City have a preferrred option.
Axel Disasi (CB) West Ham and Spurs had a declared interest last summer but after adding Aguerd in the summer would have ended that and Spurs took Lenglet on loan. Southamption interest will have gone. After the sale of BB, Monaco will probably not be open to a sale. Wildcards will be Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal but each have preferred options. Manchester City has likely gone.
Fikayo Tomori (CB) Milan has no interest in selling but a return to Chelsea was suggested during discussions between the clubs over two other players. Manchester United have had a very high-end third-party scout watching him on their behalf. Conte was keen but has since left Spurs.
Mohamed Simakan (CB) Again a player RBL wish to hang on to but seen as an option by Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and possibly Arsenal, depending on departures.
Jurrien Timber (CB) Manchester United and Spurs remain keen - price will be huge if Ajax agree to sell and will not be first chpoice for either club.}

1.) 24 Jun 2023 21:40:32
Thanks for detailed info ed002, like the idea of Inacio and Bastoni.

2.) 25 Jun 2023 11:28:50
Quite an impressive list of targets to be fair.

I guess all of this subject to departures in that department.

3.) 25 Jun 2023 03:35:53
Thanks for the detailed insight, @Ed002. Is the lack of updates on the Kim Min-Jae pursuit is because clubs are waiting for the reduced release fee clause in his contract to be activated on July 1st, or that he is not United’s no.1 CB transfer target, or the club is waiting to sell Maguire first?

{Ed002's Note - You are trying to over-complicate matters.}

Who’s this Facundo Pellestri? It seems something maybe happening with him. I have never heard of him, I’m assuming it wouldn’t be a first team transfer.

discountdave

1.) 03 Oct 2020 19:43:13
I would imagine he'd be a back up to whoever we are looking at for the rw hopefully pellistri and dembele on a loan (big initial feel 15-20m? ) Then option 40-45m euros?

This as well as cavani would give us really good options, plus I still expect telles as I don't think we would have let dalot leave without telles being sorted.

2.) 03 Oct 2020 19:51:09
Ed2 said that we had an interest in him few months ago, largely owing to the fact that his coach back then was Diego Forlan. He also said that the kid was well thought of but maybe not ready to slot into the first team setup straight away.

There are multiple reports stating we are looking at bringing him in.

3.) 03 Oct 2020 21:50:53
I think he is ready for a medical, so I've watched a couple of his "good" videos in the platform/ company I work for. He looks similar to Dan James in terms of speed and height, BUT is far more skilful with the ball and the first thing on his mind when he gets the ball is to take on the opponent. Penarol whant him to stay on loan, does any of the ED's know if he'll be loaned back? And will there be issues with a work permit?

4.) 03 Oct 2020 21:54:27
He has a Spanish passport and apparently we have activated a termination clause so would join straight away.

5.) 03 Oct 2020 22:08:42
Thanks, mate!

Can anyone point me to our targets list from Ed002. I have searched With no joy

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - It has not been updated for quite a while Dave. It needs doing.}

1.) 23 Aug 2020 16:23:38
No worries Ed002

It would be appreciated when time allows

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I will do Dave.}

2.) 23 Aug 2020 16:32:04
Fantastic, looking forward to it Ed.

3.) 23 Aug 2020 17:00:29
Could you do one for the departures as well ed2, when you have time?

{Ed002's Note - Sure.}

4.) 25 Aug 2020 06:29:13
it was on here yesterday, not surd what's happened.

{Ed002's Note - It has been deleted - they will not be anymore at all because of abuse being posted on the sites.}

5.) 25 Aug 2020 11:52:10
So so sad that people post abuse. Has C.V. not taught people anything. especially that we should be nicer to each other and appreciate when others do things for us.

6.) 25 Aug 2020 13:20:11
This is why we can't have nice things.

It's just a game and it's just some transfer rumours, nothing to get abusive about.

09 Jun 2020 21:18:33
Hi Ed002

I see on another page you said we have a preferred option to James Maddison (I wasn’t aware MU was looking at him) is the preferred option Jack Grealish.

Thanks.

So pochettino is available. Who would take him?

I would.

discountdave

1.) 19 Nov 2019 19:47:44
And it begins.

2.) 19 Nov 2019 19:48:27
I think he would need a break from the games recharge his batteries. I'd imagine starring g fresh next summer would appeal to him.

3.) 19 Nov 2019 19:48:44
In a heartbeat.

4.) 19 Nov 2019 19:49:45
Good manager. Still lots to learn. Hungry for success. Plays a good brand of football. Promotes youth. Not been a winner yet.
He would definitely be worth strong consideration.

5.) 19 Nov 2019 20:07:11
End of the season, ole to step down. Poch comes in. Big mistake by levy in my opinion. But he must have somebody lined up already. Mid season and plenty available managers. Poch although never won titles with them, improved them dramatically.

6.) 19 Nov 2019 20:32:20
If ed really does want poch, I can see ole being given a senior role in recruitment and vision etc, working in tandem with poch.

Although for me i would stick with ole, no one actually knows if it would work out for poch here at utd.

7.) 19 Nov 2019 21:40:25
I see Eddie Howe's name being touted about. Not a big enough name for some, but I think he's done wonders to keep Bournemouth relevant in this league.

8.) 20 Nov 2019 00:22:14
Poch in, move ogs to Dof, they both like to promote youth, and I think ogs is well respected throughout the football world, so it will work well in my opinion.

9.) 20 Nov 2019 04:19:56
Mourinho will most probably be the new Spurs manager.

10.) 20 Nov 2019 05:15:18
Stick with Ole's project.

11.) 20 Nov 2019 06:58:46
And it's Jose.

08 Aug 2019 17:09:36
And breath!

I never expected anything on deadline day and I'm glad we didn't always seems panic buying to me, so I'm glad we didn't buy for the sake of it.

If dybala asked for ridiculous wages/ agent fees I'm glad we stepped back lessons learnt I guess.

Eriksen favoured Madrid I'm glad we didn't throw money at him again lessons learnt.

Is the midfield and attack short? Absolutely but we only want players to come who are driven by the club and not money.

Now roll on sunday hopefully this season we see Gomes, Chong and greenwood get some minutes.

Defence looks good now so there are positives to this window despite many many fans wanted signings just for the sake of it.

Thanks Ed's for your input throughout the window.

Bring on chelsea.

discountdave

1.) 08 Aug 2019 18:00:36
dave it wasn't just signings for the sake of it.

take pogba out of that team what are you left with?

no creativity, no one in the centre that can pick that killer pass.

we have known what we needed

we should have took advantage of chelseas ban and arsenals defensive/ midfield troubles but we havent.

2.) 08 Aug 2019 20:02:21
Dave are u a Woody muppet.
People are trying to be positive so that they can show they are class apart and so cool.

I will watch these season without any pressure of fourth because I know it will be very difficult for us to achieve that.

Hopefully our academy graduates will be stars of the futures. This season belongs to them.
Greenwood Angel and Chong should get lot of playing time now🙌.

3.) 08 Aug 2019 20:33:45
If you are suggesting I'm happy with this transfer window then you are wrong but I'm a glass half full person. There is just constant negativity on this page and its embarrassing.

31 Jul 2019 23:11:37
This whole dybala/ Lukaku swap could it be as simple as a swap or would it have to two separate deals as I'm sure we'd owe Everton some form of bonus/ addons and I don't know if that would be some sort of breach.

I'm not really sure how it would work.

Thanks.

discountdave

1.) 01 Aug 2019 06:41:53
DD a few weeks ago Ed002 said something along the lines of it goes on the value of the player. I thought the same when it was rumoured Arsenal we’re offering players for Zaha. There can’t be such a simple loophole where players replace any fee. Therefore, if I understand it correctly, if Dybala is worth £75m and that is what we receive for Lukaku, £75m becomes the monetary value and any sell on clause will be the percentage of that £75m. I think.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, all exchanges etc. have values assigned.}

2.) 01 Aug 2019 08:16:23
Thanks Ed, your knowledge is slowly rubbing off 😁.

3.) 01 Aug 2019 09:19:38
Dear gods, making football fans (marginally) less ignorant! Is there no limit to the miracles Ed can perform?

21 Jul 2019 09:06:59
I expect the bale to united links will start to appear now after zidane's comments.

Although I can only see him going to bayern they seem to be struggling with their preferred wingers.

Maybe psg also if neymar leaves.

discountdave

1.) 21 Jul 2019 10:08:11
Seems like bayern interested.

2.) 21 Jul 2019 11:14:31
I hope its bayern but never discount the stupidity of the genius we know as Woodward Dave.

3.) 21 Jul 2019 17:26:26
Bayern or PSG hopefully.

13 Jul 2019 21:14:53
Right lads

With Wan Bissaka and Daniel James already in how would you rate the window if Maguire, Longstaff and Bruno followed?

I know RW is needed but I don't see many links for one of those so those 5 players come in

How happy are we?

discountdave

1.) 13 Jul 2019 21:50:17
6 on 10 Dave. Not the best CB. No RW. Not replacing Lukaku. Loads of money spent. But a decent spine to build on.

2.) 13 Jul 2019 21:53:03
If pogba and lukaku left i wouldn't be too pleased as we would still lack creativity from midfield and a proven goalscorer.

If pogba and lukaku stay then i would be happy with a maguire (someone who can pass the ball out from the back), longstaff (mouldable midfielder who can play deeper or box to box) and fernandes ( goalscoring midfielder) .

3.) 13 Jul 2019 23:24:55
Dont rate Maguire, Longstaff and James. Unconvinced by Bruno. Wan Bissaka will be a good signing. Overall 3/ 10. Completely unconvinced with no replacement for Lukaku or RW. I particularly don't see it in Maguire, personally think he will be a terrible signing at the prices mentioned.

4.) 14 Jul 2019 00:13:45
Totally agree with LaBamba here, I wouldn't take Maguire even for free, he is not good enough, i don't think he is even better than Jones and Smalling, very slow, i would love Dias. Wan Bissaka was a spot on signing, he is exactly what we needed there, James? i'm not sure yet will give him one season to see how he adapts, we desperately need a right winger, another central midfielder preferible a defensive mid because i don't see Matic getting too many games this season to me he looks done, we need a very energetic midifielder there, forwards? we need a proven goalscorer machine but who is available? not a good window so far but we'll see, anyways i'm not expecting much maybe 5th place this season? one thing is clear to me, we are way behind Liverpool and City so no premier league this year or the next.

5.) 14 Jul 2019 01:10:58
You don’t think Maguire is better than Jones and Smalling? Haha reman, I can tell you now that he definitely is.

Good window that imo and probably the best we can hope for as it stands, I think Longstaff would be a great signing and not too fussed about lukaku going. I’m hoping Greenwood can prove himself on the right and have a go in that position, we have a lot of attacking players on the books and we just need to hope a few of them hit some form. The squad is nowhere near as bad as people are making out.

6.) 14 Jul 2019 01:16:25
La bamba,

When you say you don’t rate Longstaff, do you mean because you haven’t seen him play? Because when he did play it would be hard not to rate him, he was really good whenever he played last season.

Also, when have you watched Daniel James? And how much Portuguese football do you watch to decide Bruno isn’t good because he has been player of the year there for 2 years? It sounds to me like you are just being negative for the sake of it without even knowing much about the players.

7.) 14 Jul 2019 06:21:07
Dave, the players you have mentioned will definitely improve the squad.
Considering we cannot provide UCL, I think it would be coup to get those players in.

8.) 14 Jul 2019 08:47:53
I don't get this Maguire is better than smalling and Jones argument. They both are rubbish, being better than rubbish doesn't make one great, just better than rubbish. We need a great cb or atleast someone who can be that in future. Maguire is niether. He is an average cb who we will pay premium for because he is english. We should be using the maguire money to buy someone like a koilibaly or if pogba really wants to leave convince varane.

9.) 14 Jul 2019 08:55:22
Pep must be a crap Manager if he sees something in McGuire.

10.) 14 Jul 2019 09:07:01
Gds maybe like shappy he spends every waking hour watching Portuguese french Italian and german football.
He has seen over 50 full live games from Portuguese and Italian leagues alone last season and that's before watching all our games plus all of our position games. Honestly not enough hours in the week he only sleeps every second Thursday😂😂 tough netting a tv scout for no one.

11.) 14 Jul 2019 10:51:08
Agree with GDS here.

Some of our supporters come across so spoilt at times I mean aren't maguire and longstaff fancy enough names?

Maguire not an upgrade on Smalling and Jones give me a break also he stays fit so that's a huge plus.

Longstaff I can't offer an opinion on him as I haven't seen him but I like what I've read.

Bruno goals and creativity from midfield something we lack and your unconvinced by him.

Wan Bissaka will be great a massive upgrade and a specialist right back finally!

Dan James I'm excited for him pacy player that will terrify fullbacks with his pace and can play all across the front three.

Some just mean for the sake of moaning.

I've more or less echoed GDS words here but I thought I'd get my head in 😀.

12.) 14 Jul 2019 10:52:14
“Don’t rate Longstaff, James. unconvinced by Fernandes”.
In other words you’ve never seen them play? How somebody can watch Fernandes last season and be u convinced by his work rate and returns is beyond me.

“Wouldn’t take Maguire on a free”
Nonsense, Maguire will improve our defence. Don’t get me wrong he’s not the best available and I would prefer Dias, Milenkovic or Toby, but he is definitely an improvement on Smalling and Jones so to say you wouldn’t take him for free is an emotional response.

Back to the question in hand. I’ve been crying out for a RW for years now and I think it’s our most desperate position. A specialist RW will give us a different dynamic to our play, allow us to keep the ball better using the full width of the pitch meaning the opposition don’t crowd our left side (which Wolves did so well) to take possession back off us. I think solving that one position takes pressure off the whole team.

We obviously need a CB and CM. If we can sign three more players this window (RW, CB, CM), in addition to AWB and James, as well as remove the poison from the dressing room, I think that’s a lot of activity for 1 window and we will be better for it.

It might even be a stretch too far to bring in 5 first teamers in a single window but we need it and if it happens it’s a job well done imo.

13.) 14 Jul 2019 11:10:57
CSM you are assuming the likes of koulibaly, Varane etc want to come to us. Yes maguire at the reported 80m is excessive but unfortunately that's the market now. Maguire will improve our defense how anyone would disagree with that baffles me.

14.) 14 Jul 2019 12:36:13
Ajh pep also wanted Sanchez and fred, how great they have been for us.

Dave the question isn't whether he will improve us, but rather will his arrival improve us enough to compete with likes of city and liverpool atleast defensively today or in future, and the answer from me is a clear no.

15.) 14 Jul 2019 13:02:20
Maguire is a decent player and will be a good fit at United imo.
Koulibaly is another player that is massively over rated on this site . Good player but he isn't head and shoulders above everyone else .

16.) 14 Jul 2019 14:30:31
But he has a nice fancy alliterative foreign name jred so he’s better than any other English player.

I’d imagine we get lower fees for our players due to the high wages they’re on, I mean I agree that McTominay is valued more than Emile Smith Rowe but then mctominays wages will be significantly more than than ESR.

I think its time to move on, he’s a hard worker and you can see he gives 100% every time he’s on the pitch, but I don’t think he’s good enough to start for us so for the best of his career, he should move on.

Ed002 thanks for the above information, could I ask which players for the AM role we have interest in?

Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Kudus has been of interest but much will depend on whether the club are looking for someone to play of the striker and how Fernandez and Mount are to be used. If it is to be someone to play off the striker then perhaps Ramos would eb a better option.}

We are such an impatient fanbase, I’d imagine most negotiations take months it’s just we read about it daily so it seems it’s taking forever.

Like the above poster we seen to be closing on the deal relatively soon.

This is probably the reason why we’ve been getting mugged off over transfer fees the last few years because we just paid whatever.

If we’re to act like a serious club regarding transfers then we can’t just bend to any clubs demands.

We need to negotiate effectively and regarding Kane we have to balance his worth with his age.

So in a nutshell absolutely not just pay whatever to get him in.
