It's an interesting squad with lots of notable absentees.

No Dalot, Shaw, Malacia, Lindelof, Maguire, McTominay, Fred, Casemiro, Eriksen, Bruno, Antony, Pellistri, Rashford or Garnacho.

This very much feels like it's a squad where EtH is working out which young players to take on tour with the first team, while also giving a few senior players a run out.

I think the absences are due to recent international call ups so were never expected for this first match. Looking forward to seeing Mainoo given a run out and hopefully a place on the tour.

Fred is there Shappy. Agree that this seems to be an opportunity for EtH to have a look at a few in a match situation.

Eth has made it clear that the youngsters need to be high quality to get into he first team. He will not be handing out appearances unless he feels players are ready and pushing the senior pros. He has a reputation from Ajax of developing youth, so hoping to see some from the youth set up start to look the business.

A few in this list I thought would be gone already, could be last chance saloon, or maybe we just needed players to fill the squad?

Let's hope the kids' attitude matches their desire. Iqbal was probably the stand-out player this time last season, but is now wearing different colours.
