I sit here with a great big grin on my face for one reason. All summer we have fretted about buying a world class midfielder and whether the squad was strong enough. What non of us could possibly have realised was that we had bought a player with the ability and physical presence of Phil Jones. I know people will accuse me of going over the top too early about the boy, but i genuinely think we have got someone really special. I was at the Reebok on Saturday and he was just awesome, they tried to batter him and he got up every time and went harder. He had skill on the ball and wants to get forward. I have been looking around trying to find a leader in our team someone who will drive us on and represent the club and not drag it through the gutter for more money. My Prayers have been answered. People are already talking about him in hushed tones likening him to Big Dunc which maybe a little premature but we have needed a player with presence for so long. Can any of you tell me the last time a United team had you as excited as this one does. I know it looks like his girlfriend has streaked his hair with a do it yourself kit but who cares we have uncovered a real United player. They may not admit it but I guarantee all the Liverpool and City supporters are wishing they had signed him. Whoever is captain over the next couple of years just keep that armband clean until you pass it to Jones. The man is going to lead us to glory. RAINFISHTROMBONE

I am a 100 percent sure that we would play Jones in defensive mid role against chelsea. And Rooney was everywhere last game saving goals in the back, passing in the mid and scoring at front.

FC Barcelona diver of the year award nominees:

5. Javier Mascherano- Still a new bie at the nou camp, javier has learnt a lot seeing the team mates dive by warming the barca benches, a glimpse of his raw talent was seen in a few matches.

4. Andres Iniesta- Andres showed that he is multi talented in the game against valencia, apart from his crisp passing, his penalty granting dive was out of this world.

3. Pedro Rodriguez- An underrated home grown talent, pedro showed his class in the clasicos, his outstanding dives made us realise what we were missing all these years.

2. Dani Alves- The Brazilian fullback showcased his acting skills to the highest level in the el clasicos, his ability to fool the referee, combined with his natural acting skills makes him one of our biggest assets.

1. Sergio Busquets- Sergio's rise in modern football in the last 2 seasons has been nothing short of sensation, widely regarded as the best diver in the world, sergio proved his worth in crunch matches against inter milan and real madrid, his hollywood style approach to the game and racisim rants make him the most valuable asset of our team.

PS: Lionel Messi was a top contender but could not make it to the top 5 due to the stiff competition.

Morning guys. Great result over the weekend, but the real test will be against Chelsea this Sunday.

The main reason for me posting is to encourage a bit of a debate, as well as seeing what others think about United's defence. I've watched the last two games against Arsenal and Bolton, and whilst I may be a bit of a maverick for thinking so, I do believe that the defence has looked quite weak at times. Now, before I delve deeper I'm not suggesting that this is a long term problem because we have been missing several key defenders in the last two games, but I do think it's a slight worry for the upcoming match against Chelsea.

I was at the game against Arsenal and it was of course a very surreal one. I'm not at all trying to cast a black shadow over the great result, but I'm just trying to pick up on the fact that Arsenal, in my opinion, could have scored quite easily 5 goals. You do need to put into context that we could have scored 15, but there were many gaps in the defence as well as loose marking that day. In the game itself, Arsenal had 19 shots overall, with 13 on target. Whilst many of these may have been tame shots at De Gea, 13 shots on target at OT is too much, whatever the score. However, considering the rarity of such a farcical match, lets call this an anomaly.

Now we get to last Saturday's match against Bolton; away from home, so you would expect less dominant statistics in United's favour. Bolton had 20 shots overall, also with 13 on target. Credit is no doubt due to De Gea and the defenders for keeping a clean sheet, but that is still a large amount of shots that United conceded.

The average conversion rate of shots on target is approximately 25%-30% which means in both games against Arsenal on Bolton, they should have scored between 3.25 - 3.9 goals each against us.

By this time I have probably bored you all to death and over-analysed our great performances, but I just wanted to let people know my thoughts. The numbers I have used in the previous paragraph are based on EPL averages and are not specific to either team so aren't 100% accurate. Apologies for the long post and I look forward to reading any thoughts (probably negative towards my pessimistic approach).

Ed007 and Tim I see your boys have lost Islam Feruz to Chelsea this morning. I know he's only 16 but do you know much of him?

TK-Red {Ed007's Note - He is a great prospect TK. He could turn out to be a fantastic player. I'm a bit gutted though, CFC and the late Tommy Burns done so much to help him and his family come here from Somalia.}

Guys, I am a Celtic fan new to the United pages, just wanted to enter into a debate. Our Celtic Ed007 (bond you call him) has written a blog on the late great Jock Stein (go onto Celtic sight for details)
Anyway that set me thinking about the greatest ever British manager, I know you will all say Ferguson, yes he is a good manager, but he won more trophies because of a large transfer budget.
Jock Stein, had no such wealth at his disposal he only had his coaching ability and his eye for a good player. He could recognise talent in a player and nurture it to make it better, also he could spot weaknesses and would work with that player to improve that side of his game. His tactical awareness was second to none and his ability to install a team spirit was also second to none, in case you think I am only praising a Celtic man, what about Bill Shankly and Matt Busby, those two and Stein were of the same area and of the same football ethos of attacking, attractive football.
So come on you reds, give us your views and be honest, dont just praise man Utd and noone else.
hail hail Neil T {Ed007's Note - Thanks very much Neil, here is the link:

Ed007 - In responce to you hating fishing. As do I my friend, and I've just spent the weekend at a wedding in which all of the men in the groom party were big fishing fanatics. There were 7 fishing puns in all the speeches. 7! I missed the football for fishing puns..

..Never again will I attend a wedding in Norfolk.

Glad to hear that it's only 4 weeks out for Cleverley. I won't go into whether or not Davies is now the antichrist, that discussion has been done to death today, just happy that his actions haven't proved too costly. It's hard to single out individuals for their performances on Saturday as the whole team was brilliant, but I thought Anderson had another very solid game. Teams are going to find it so hard to deal with his neat little one-twos on the edge of the box, especially now that Rooney plays in that withdrawn role, and is almost always there to receive the ball. Jones showed what he can do when he's got space to run into, Bolton had no idea what to do with him, and I personally can't wait to see him paired with Anderson in midfield. I think he can get the best out of him, just like Hargreaves did 4 years ago. With Jones screening the back four, Anderson could move even further up the pitch, and get even more involved. Perhaps getting himself a few more goals? Exciting times ahead. The team's playing with a real swagger at the moment, let's hope it continues!
