I really, really hope that the focus of our window is strengthening the spine of the team above all else.

Chelsea have done it over the last couple of years: Courtois, Matic and Diego Costa and they are now flying high. If Arsenal had done it they would of won the League.

I think the team that does that best will be the main challenger to Chelsea next season. Ourselves, City and Arsenal really need to work on that central spine.

Let's hope that Otamendi, Schneiderling and a striker come in (and a world class keeper since De Gea I think has gone).

Really wish though that that striker was Lacazette. As I have said before though, he won't leave this year.

Eds, just wondering if you could let me put up this montage of Georgie Best.

Sitting here, bored stiff as the gales bring down trees around me, and pondering stuff like, if Gareth Bale is worth £80 million, how much would this genius have been worth in his prime?

Sit back, enjoy, show it to the kids, and ignore the Liverpudlian music score :)

{Ed025's Note - go for it mate..

01 Jun 2015 19:04:33
Would love us to get Schneiderlin, if for no other reason, that he can phone up Llallana, Loveren and Lambert, and go, 'remember you feckers laughing at me for having to stay behind last summer, while you all swanned off to bigger and better things'?? Ha!

I think we can all agree we all need 1 more attacking option a name that hasn't been mentioned yet is pedro from barca! Always been a player I've liked a lot but of course with the compition in the barca ranks he hasn't been bless with enough playing time

Ive seen a couple of times that he would like to leave for more playing time and think he could do a good job for us, good pace, gets past his man and gets goals

I always think all this talk of schneiderlin is brilliant, think he would make an immediate impact to our 1st that's needed and of wenger is saying he isn't interested in Vidal then getting him in too would be sweet

Believable1 Unbelievable2

01 Jun 2015 17:57:08
Pedro is a decent enough winger and is apparently available for £7 million. On paper it seems a no brainer.

But Pedro, like Jesus Navas relies solely on pace, he doesn't have that much about his game and to me wouldn't suit the English game. Not for me - probably a Liverpool target.

Agree0 Disagree3

01 Jun 2015 18:38:24
Fresh are you off your meds again?

Whilst pedro isn't world class bringing him down to navas level is slightly demeaning. He has pace, final ball and can put goals away. Navas has just pace. Difference? Think so.

Agree4 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 19:39:52
Not good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 22:27:52
I don't think he would be a success here, everyone has their own opinion.

Agree2 Disagree0

02 Jun 2015 07:28:21
Personally I would love Pedro here. Pace, final product and he's left foot is as great as he's right foot. I can see him playing in youngs role in this system to be honest. As great as Young's season has been it has been predictable when he is going to cut in and he's crossing with he's left has been hit and miss.

Agree0 Disagree0

02 Jun 2015 07:41:17
He is a decent player and for the price being mooted I would have a look at him. The only thing he lacks is a defensive edge to his game which Ashley Young has added to his this year. We could get better but I would consider him as an alternative for sure.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Jun 2015 09:31:22
JMB,

Ashley Young has had to have the defensive side to his game the whole time he has played for us because his full back (Evra) couldn't get back anymore. It is no surprise to me that Young looks better when he has a decent full back behind him.

Agree0 Disagree5

02 Jun 2015 09:51:05
I think Evra had a poor last 12-18 months GDS but other than that he was fantastic going forward and getting back. I think your comment is a little disrespectful to Patrice mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

02 Jun 2015 13:34:05
Not at all mate,

I loved Patrice, he was a great player for us, but for his last 2-3 years he struggled and I am sure he would admit himself he was not up to standard and was struggling with the pace of the premier league. Teams were deliberately playing the ball towards him, it was quite commonly noticed and mentioned on here a lot at the time. It is easy to look back fondly and forget but for 2 years Ashley Young was playing left back as well as left wing.

Agree0 Disagree2

01 Jun 2015 16:11:08
IMO its an absolute must that we buy 2 good mids this summer. If we've learnt anything from better teams out there, its that a great midfield CAN make up for the defence as well the front line.
I think a midfield of let's say, hererra, schneiderlin and kondogbia/schweinsteiger will be so mobile and quick both while defending and attacking. It will also make sure that our strikers and wingers can hold their positions and not have to drop deep all the time.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

01 Jun 2015 18:23:01

Re DE Gea leaving. let's assume he is leaving. I so maybe he and his agent are being decent and not saying so to allow a replacement to be acquired quietly.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

01 Jun 2015 14:28:47
That could well be the situation, perhaps United have asked to hold back any confirmation until a replacement is found and i'd imagine the price of the replacement would be increased if De Gea was confirmed to be leaving.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 14:59:10
Serious? You don't think the selling club will suspect haha

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 15:26:03
Weggy. I think the whole of world football will know of we're going after a keeper then that means ddg is leaving and the price will go up.
My view on ddg is that we invested a lot of money in a young untried keeper and for the past five years has turned into one of the best keepers in the world. This is mainly due to the excellent coaching and management he's received at United.
So for him not to sign a contract is ridiculous, he could sign the contract, stay another couple of seasons and then he can move to Madrid where he will be lambasted for every small mistake he makes but it will give United the chance to get his true monetary value.
That's the least he owes the club.

Agree7 Disagree4

01 Jun 2015 15:42:07
I agree NoMidfield!

I understand Spain is his home but for what we have done for him this past 4 seasons have been great.

The mass support he received through his first two seasons was massive and if he throws that back at us I'd be gutted.

But at the end of the day a majority of Spanish players will always use other clubs as a stepping stone to get to Madrid or Barcelona.

I will also be furious if we break-even on him, we deserve so much more for him and if Madrid are playing hard ball I'd rather keep him another year and let leave on the free.

Agree1 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 15:46:51
He owes the club nothing nomidfield, stop being so absurd.

Agree3 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 16:03:08
No mid,

Lets look at it from the other angle though. We signed Ddg who has improved drastically over the last 2 seasons and now merits a far higher wage than what he's on. If we valued him as highly as we should why did we not offer him an improved deal when he had 2 years left rather than 1?

You should never allow one of your top players contract run down to 1 year remaining. I can only imagine that it was a money saving risk, one which has backfired.

Loyalty works both ways, whilst you feel he's not showing us any now he may feel the club didn't show him loyalty after last season's much improved performances and only 2 years left on his original deal.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 16:26:39
Anon, you say he owes the club nothing? What are you smoking fella! David De Gea is now one of thee worlds BEST goalkeepers! Why? BECAUSE OF MANCHESTER UNITED!!! Real Madrid don't buy average or the norm, because they only want the best! We took the punt and made him the best! Owes us nothing, he owes us everything! Born in Madrid, MADE in Manchester!!!

Agree3 Disagree3

01 Jun 2015 16:36:57
Let's look at it with out the sentimental nonsense, and as the business football has become.

David was hired by an English company and given a contract for a set number of years. The company hired him because they believed that they could profit from hiring him, they provided him with high quality training and management because it would aid their goal of boosting profits, and treated him well because he was a valuable employee. Now David is wanted by a more successful company who operate in Spain, David's country of birth where his family and girlfriend still live. David can choose to sign a new contract with his existing company and risk missing out on moving back to Spain, or he can refuse to sign a contract allowing the Spanish company to buy out the remaining year.

Don't try to affix the former sentimentality of football when it was still a club sport on the current context. De Gea doesn't own the ManU corporation anything, we're talking about an employee who was hired to increase a business's profits (which he has) deciding on where he wants to work.

Agree5 Disagree2

01 Jun 2015 18:26:11
ddg is one of the best goal keepers in world because of ddg.
he has the ability and dedication .
he is just an employee of the club .

Agree5 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 19:01:59
he put the effort in to get to where he is today, I'm sure he would have had the exact same path had he stayed at Athletico, he's a massive talent, yes TALENT. We didn't give him some sort of drug to make him what he is today, him putting his head down and ignoring all the hate from the fickle fans who wanted him out for the likes of Lindegaard. He owes us nothing, I'm just grateful he's played for the club and had success under us.

Agree2 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 19:34:10
Danny and Anon. While I agree that sentimentality and business should not mix, I think most owners/managers get some sort of loyalty from their employees. I know that most of my employees give me this loyalty. In addition, on the few occasions when one of our employees had received a better offer of employment, they came to see my management team to discuss. They didn't sit there for three months not telling us if they're going or staying!! So I'm afraid what you're saying might be what you think but it is certainly not how business works.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 19:38:10
Precisely Danny.

He owes us little to nothing in real terms. We've been paying him a wage, he's returned that by keeping the ball out of the net. We failed to reward his improvement before this season and have been left in a tricky position with little security (1 year). If we wanted him on a longer contract we should have made it happen 12 to 18 months ago Imo.

The ball is firmly in his court and as Ed002 says players are merely transient employees, which Woodward etc. will have realised all along, while his contract has been left to run down.

I wonder if the tables were turned and we were picking up a player on the cheap due to length of contract, would our fans feel so bad for the selling team?

Agree2 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 20:02:10
Nomid, and you know that DDG hasn't told the board whether he is staying or going how?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 21:46:37
Nomid, your rationale is way off. De Gea has obviously discussed this with the manager and the suits. They're well aware of the situation, and that he has to seriously consider moving back to Spain. As LVG said, De Gea will make the decision for himself.

But what you're saying is something completely different. You're saying that it's disgraceful that an employee hasn't signed a new contract because they have received top quality on the job training that has helped them become better at their profession. In any business that is ludicrous. Employees are not tied to company, regardless of the their training. They are tied to their contract and have every right not to extend their contract.

As HB says, we have no such expectations when we're the buying team. Do you think that Depay should have just stayed at PSV and signed a new contract because he owes them? It's a nonsense attitude to have. Players work hard at their jobs, so they can secure the best possible job for them, be it in terms of money, trophies or location. The idea that top class players owe something to the club, when the clubs in question are multi-million pound businesses who invest in players for the sole reason of profit is just silly.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good post that danny mate..

02 Jun 2015 00:34:23
That's that put to bed then!

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 13:12:22
Schneiderlin IMO would be a great signing, he has the potential to be a top class player I would be delighted if we sing him. I believe we also need another midfield player to compliment schneiderlin and Herrera with high energy levels who has creativity and is willing to run beyond the striker ideally to replace fellani in the prepared starting 11
IMO we should then concentrate on rb and at least 1 top class experienced cb who will become our leader ideally also another experienced cb.
I would like those 4 roles to be filled by
Coleman, 2 from otamendi humells laporte howedes. , 1 from Vidal gundogan pogba.
I am sure a lot of people will shoot me down but I would also sign James Milner on a free to cover a several positions the lad has a great attitude.
Exits that would really not affect the starting 11 will be clev nani chich Evans Rafael falcao we would see Jones leave if we sign 2 CBs IMO,
Only if we see rvp or dimaria leave will we sign another striker.
If de gear leaves I would try to leverage that situation to get bale if possible.
Cech is the only obvious candidate for me to replace degea
Players for me that improved last season or throughout the season that will continue to flourish and be a lot better and more consistent next season will be Rooney if played up top consistently smalling shaw Mata and fellani.
I hope we get the deals agreed early so that we get the best possible preparation for what will be a hectic and vital early part of the season, the last thing we need going into CL qualifying rounds ia a circus surrounding will di Maria leave or a will we sign Vidal media scrum.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed004's Note - There is no chance of Milner and I would not want him. A life long Leeds supporter, who played for both City and Leeds. No thanks. I think one centre back is enough I agree we need two Cm's a right back and another forward option}

01 Jun 2015 13:28:04
I would not sign Milner, no thank you. If a player was to come in who was available on a free then I would opt for De Jong to sit in behind Schneiderlin and Herrera. I know that is probably not a popular choice and he certainly isn't my first choice but on a free and with LVG knowing him, we may well see him and in his defence, he would offer that physical presence to close out games when needed.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 14:46:04
Kondogbia would be a great compliment to Schneiderlin. You would have an extremely strong midfield with Kondogbia-Schneiderlin-Herrera.

One of the eds mentioned on the rumour page his best position is in CM not in the holding position.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 14:54:17
I personally think Morgan Schneiderlin would be the perfect signing for us. He has all the attributes we currently lack in the CM area.

Agree1 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 16:44:15
I can't see us signing more than 5 this summer. With Depay already done I'd look at Dani Alves at RB even though he 32 having watched him over the last few weeks he's looked back to his best.

CB is Hummels or Otamendi by the looks of things. Either is better than what we currently have but it's down to personal preference whether you want a Vidic type like Otamendi or a ball playing defender like Hummels.

CM x2, I'm in agreement with the majority on here that Schneiderlin would be a great signing. Then it's once again picking one of a few options with Schweinsteiger, Vidal, Nainggolan etc all spoken about.

If De Gea was to go then I'd sign a back up keeper and allow Valdes to have a go at being number 1. He was an excellent keeper and hopefully will return to that level. There's also talk of a striker which again would be good but we can't sign everyone.

I'd be very happy with the above were it to happen and think we'd be reasonably well covered all over the park.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I agree with your rb and cb options. I think Schneiderlin would be a brilliant CDM and would prefer to see Gundogan playing alongside him and Herrera. However, I think we currently lack a world class number 9 that will get us 20 goals in the league next season. I really think we should push for Benzema or Lacazette}

01 Jun 2015 17:19:19
Ed I agree alvez would be great short term option backed up by Valencia / young. Do you not think Rooney would not get 20 league goals if played up front for the league season? I think next summer would be more likely for lvg to be looking at replacing Rooney be that with Kane if he kicks on Lewandowski or indeed the likes of Lacazette . I think ed002 said on one of the other sites that laczette was unlikely to move this summer

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - No mainly because his form dropped massively at the end of the season when playing as a striker.}

01 Jun 2015 12:12:47
We are linked with Higuain for £42m? Now Liverpool have quoted £35m for Lacazette? Why are we not bidding for Lacazette?? Ok, Higuain may be in his prime, but, at 23, Lacazette has years ahead he's already superb yet to see him in his prime for gods sake?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed004's Note - That would be a fair price for Lacazette. Hopefully we move for him}

01 Jun 2015 13:22:14
Ronnie,

Liverpool have not been quoted anything for Lacazette mate, almost everything you are reading is being made up by the papers, imagine if we actually signed all the players we are linked with, we would have a squad of 150 players and no money.

Message for Leahy12, as you decided to call me out the other day on a rumour I posted last year, where I said we have done a deal for Vidal, where you said your fed up of people talking about players they want to sign. This is what I actually posted

16 Aug 2014 13:52:11
This is a genuine rumour. My dad owns a building company, and one of the fellas he does work for in cheshire has a holiday home in Angelsey, N Wales. Ed Woodward also has a holiday home in the same place, and my dads mate regulary talks to him in the local pub. My dad just told me that his mate says we have actually wrapped up a €50m euro deal, done and dusted, just not being announced yet. But wouldn't give a name. He also says that Ed Woodward doesn't like sitting at games and has no interest in football. He's pure businessman which we all knew. Apparently tho €50m deal is done and will come out in the coming days.

This is genuinely true.

I just hope to god it's Vidal!

Stand-United

Just so you know, the source of info is legit, and a matter of a week or two after I said there is a big deal being done we pay £60m for Di Maria. I clearly state I "hope" it's Vidal, not that it "is" Vidal!

So before you call people out in future I'd make sure you read the posts.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

01 Jun 2015 12:14:39
Actually SU you would still be far off the mark mate as a £60million deal would be around the €85million mark. That's a whopping extra €35million on top of the "done and dusted" €50million deal.

Agree8 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 12:15:32
Well before you pretend that your bulls**t rumour was anything but bull**t, you might want to think about taking a basic maths course. Because, and correct me if I'm wrong, €50m ≠ £60m. Not by a long shot.

So to say that your claim "we have actually wrapped up a €50m euro deal, done and dusted, just not being announced yet" is validated by the fact that we signed a player for £59.7m is absolute nonsense.

You provided a clearly bulls**t rumour that was proved to be complete bulls**t, and pretending that it wasn't doesn't actually make it true. It's about as accurate as me saying that my Nan cleans van Gaal's giraffe neck on Thursday afternoons and he told her that we have already wrapped up a deal for a player for €25m, and waiting until we sign our next player for a different fee and then acting as if I was right all along.

Agree6 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 13:15:49
You can say what you like about the rumour I posted, but despite your "bullsh**" claim, my 57 year old father does work for a man named Richard Holmes (UK Fuels is his European business), who owns a holidays home on the same estate ( group of about 4/5 properties ), knows Ed Woodward as a result of being a neighbour, and obviously chats to him. My father has no reason to come home from work and feed me bullshit, why would he?

I posted what I had been told which is fundamentally what this site is about. Although going rapidly downhill in recent months I must say. Even ed 002 has boycotted it due the the idiots we have on here.

As for the price , yes it was off, but I just posted what I was told. Also, if you really want to get into the "maths" you'll find that €85m euros was actually significantly closer to the €50m is been told, as the euro was about 1.1 to the pound as approved to the 1.4 you've used to calculate. But I'm not interested in that!

Agree1 Disagree4

01 Jun 2015 13:27:50
What worries me more is that Leahy has a memory that good about transfer rumours from last summer!

Stand - this was a dreadful attempt at trying to make that rumour sound genuine, I think a career as a lawyer maybe out the window but politics seems like it could be a potential choice!

Agree2 Disagree2

01 Jun 2015 13:34:43
Actually when we signed Di Maria it was 1.2564 euro to the pound making it €75m. So you were only a mere €25m off, basically right on the money.

And just because you believe someone else's bull doesn't make it true either.

Agree4 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 13:57:54
The source of the rumour was true. The actual point was I never said we signed Vidal, just that I hoped we had! shall we go in depth about any rumour ever posted on here? Do you understand what rumour means?

Agree1 Disagree4

01 Jun 2015 14:07:04
There are different types of rumours

Concrete rumours - i.e. somebody has actual evidence that the club has been discussing signing a player.

There is speculation - no concrete evidence, but some murmurings that the club is looking at a certain player.

And there is bulls**t - generally a fantastical situation in which secrete information about a transfer is doled out by somebody at the club to a relative or friend, usually down the pub, as you do.

Which category of rumour do you think you your one falls into?

You're either knowingly telling bull, or you were told bull and believed it. There was zero truth to your rumour, and we know this because it didn't happen.

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed004's Note - tbf deals can change so quickly. What if that was the initial fee for Di Maria and psg somehow matched it and we had to increase ours? Or what if we agreed a deal for Vidal and as Ed002 has mentioned decided against the deal due to worries over his fitness and how he would adapt to the premiership? Or maybe we agreed to pay that for Falcao and decided a loan move was safer. I don't want a manhunt starting as it will result in fewer rumours being put up. I enjoy reading posts about rumours even though 80%+ will turn out incorrect.}

01 Jun 2015 14:09:18
Ok I'm going to stick my neck out here and say I heard we are going to sign some player for about €50 million this summer!

Agree4 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 14:14:37
i think its absolute bs but could he not be on about Herrera? £35m is a lot closer to €50m. However, Woodward wouldn't go around telling any neighbours about potential transfer dealings, few of my friends are pro footballers and we never usually find out anything until the day before or a few days before any transfers or manager sackings happen, they're not allowed to. Likewise Woodward 1 isn't allowed and 2 isn't that stupid.

Agree3 Disagree1

01 Jun 2015 14:25:07
Anon - Stand United's rumour was posted on 16th August 2014 which would rule out Herrera as he was signed up by then.

I am going to also stick my neck out and say we will sign a €50million player this summer as my mate's mate told me that a mate told him that his mate spoke to Ed Woodward's mate down the pub and the deal is "done and dusted".

Why are you all arguing and criticising each other over something which is purely hypothetical anyway and has no point in it whatsoever.

At least Stand's rumour was based on something, whether or not it was ultimately reliable, rather than the far more ridiculous, boring and repetitive posts which ask exceedingly dumb questions based upon baseless speculation.

We should agree a basic posting rule. If the source has anything to do "reports" in Metro, Squawka, Express, etc etc (i.e. newsnow fodder) should be VERBOTEN!

Please folks. Be adult, and try to be civil.

The fact of the matter is I posted the rumour with good intention, not something I fabricated myself. Despite what you believe or not, the bloke our company does work for us a neighbour of Ed Woodward and does personally know him. Look back through my recent history and find me any rumours I fabricate from thin air. I was told what I was told and decided to share it with you lot as that's what I thought the site was about. 99% of rumour on here turn out to be unreliable and most things are coming from sources such as Metro. In future I won't bother posting anythin I hear .

I'm very good friends with N. Taylor the Swansea lb. I was in school with him, and he's from my town. Used to go out drinking with him before he moved away. Still see him when he's home and obviously here things off him. But won't post runours now incase they don't all materialise.

I've been to Anglesey and never bumped into Ed Woodward.

The feistiness in this thread is hilarious, but I'm struggling to see where it came from! Kept me entertained for 10 mins at work in any case 😆

In honesty i'd rather read a good old fashioned rumour like that than many of the wishlists or never ending Rooney debates, even if I don't believe the rumour to be true (which is always the case) but each to their own

I miss gan, he was always 100% spot on with his rumours!

Sad to read posters getting pedantic with Stand United - no wonder ed002 left.

It's a rumours site, where everything is speculation, rather than cast in legal stone.

It's times like this when we could really do with Ed002 to clear the situation up with De Gea.

He obviously has the choice between signing our contract offer or asking to join Real Madrid. Once he makes this choice I'd imagine Madrid will put in a real offer (pun intended). No less that £30m for him is what i'd be saying If I were Woodward.

But why is De Gea taking so long? Is he wait for Madrid to decide and if so, would the likely appointment of Rafael Benitez be a factor in this? Regarding if he would want De Gea and would De Gea want to be coached by him?

I hope Dave stays as it would help us massively for the next season especially with a new defense, but the pull of Madrid and his home may be too much for him.

He has probably been told that it is now or never to join Madrid. This would be a difficult choice for any Spaniard to make.

Let's give him as long as he needs.

I don't think his latest quote of "we'll see what happens with my future" bodes well for the club. If he was staying I feel he would have just done what Yaya did yesterday and said outright "I'm saying in Manchester".

It will be a sad day if he leaves. Yet another top performer leaving the PL.

JMB has it

We'll wait and see was another famous quote from another player who left us for Madrid, i'm sure you can all guess

If he is leaving I hope it's soon so we can replace him asap. I just feel it's being dragged out a lot, would Benitez likely prefer another keeper? Maybe he would rather keep what they already have and spend the money else where?

I can see it being similar to the Ronaldo situation where in 5 years time De Gea will have an awful few games, the fans boo him like they do already to Iker and we'll be linked to bringing him back every transfer window.

I would assume the fee hasn't been agreed and that the club want a replacement sorted before he goes

Weggy do you really think any of the signings at Madrid will be Rafa's choice? He will get what Perez gives him.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Jun 2015 14:17:49
I'd imagine Rafa would have his prefered targets, weather he has spoken to Perez about them or not we will won't know until players are bought.

I think it's a one way streak at Madrid mate. They have a list of superstars and court them for months until they get what they want. I think Rafa will be lucky to get one year at the Bernabeu so I can't see him having a choice in who comes through the door.

I believe he is going as long Madrid fork out what we want. It does not take a genius to figure that out given the circumstances. Madrid reds to pay. We paid 18 mill for rap who was 30 and in his last year, so the value of off one of the bets keepers in world has to make some sense if we sell.

I understand it totally if we are prepared to hardball this deal and drag it out all summer.

Eventually the rumour of Morgan Schneiderlin possibly interesting United is now doing the rounds which, in my opinion, makes complete sense and I hope they are true. This lad should be the top of our wish list. He is everything we need for the midfield and he is quality at what he does.

Effectively by bringing in a player like Morgan you are adding depth to the midfield as well as the defence. He will sit in an area of the pitch where he will drop deep to help out the CB's defensively but will act as a link between a distributing defender and the midfield. He can tackle, pass, read the game well and his positioning is magnificent.

If this were to be true and we signed Morgan up then I don't feel there would be any need for a second CM. The way he plays he covers an area of the field which would allow us to let players like Herrera, Mata, Di Maria (if he is still here) infiltrate the opposing half. With Felliani, Carrick, Blind and LVG's obsession with Rooney playing as a CM we would be well and truly covered in this area and could focus on strengthening other important areas such as the back four.

I feel four players would be enough if we get the right ones in. I feel we will still make a pitch for Bale (as fruitful or fruitless as that may be) but with Depay adding pace, creativity and goals from the wing, Schneirderlin compressing and linking the midfield together, all we are missing is a commander at CB and RB (assuming Rafael will never reach his potential). Obviously like everyone else I am still banking on De Gea signing a new deal also.

To be honest, the number of players we bring in will depend on who leaves. We know that players like Evans, Rafael, Nani, Cleverley, Lindegaard and Hernandez are likely to leave. However, there are another three potentially big departures: De Gea, RVP and Di Maria.

For me De Gea is as good as gone. If he was going to sign, it would have been during the season while he was spending everyday in Manchester with the rest of the squad. A few weeks holiday back in Madrid with Mendes whispering in his ear, and he will be packing his bags for Madrid (if this wasn't already the plan). We need to be making our move for a new keeper now before our options start to narrow.

RVP is difficult. It's obvious that his form has dropped, and the team play better when he isn't in it. But this is a man who has lived in England for most of his adult life, has young children in school here and won't want to uproot them for the sake of a few years in another country. I think he may stay as a reserve striker, but if he doesn't we will need to get more back up for Rooney because Wilson is not ready yet.

Di Maria is the trickiest one. Our most expensive signing, and clearly capable of better than what we saw this season. However, he works better as a foil to greater players and was vastly overpriced. I think that he never really wanted to come here, and doesn't want to stay. But the club will not let him leave for drastically less than what we paid, and I can't see any club paying close to £50m for him. If he does go we will need to replace him.

So we could need 4 players or we could need 7 depending on who leaves. But Schneirderlin would be a great signing for us.

01 Jun 2015 12:03:05
Agree with everything there Danny. By four players I was meaning four who would instantly slot into the first eleven. I understand a few squad players to add depth still may be needed.

I feel RVP will stay. I think he could still impact games be that as a substitute or a starter. He is still clinical and his resale value wouldn't be much so I feel keeping him to add to the attacking options at the managers disposal would be best.

Di Maria on the other hand, as much as I want him to come good I would listen to offers if we could recoup or get close to the sum we paid for him. If he was committed then I would be right behind him but his quotes of Paris and his lack of effort suggest to me his heads somewhere else.

De Gea I agree will probably head back to his homeland and that in itself is a major problem. Assuming Madrid play hard ball as he is in the final year of his contract, we could end up getting a low sum of cash and then having to fork out a greater amount on a potential replacement of the same ilk. For instance if we go for someone like Lloris his value will far exceed what we will receive for DDG.

Interesting summer ahead.

I think we will probably recoup what we paid for De Gea. Madrid want him, and don't want to spend another year with Ilker as number 1. If De Gea decides to join them, they will stump up enough cash to make it look respectable, but it will be nowhere near the £30m some people seem to think.

I think Cech is the best option this time. He still has at least five top seasons left in him, and we have brought in a few really promising young keepers over the last few years. They could learn a lot from Cech and Valdes, and then we could have a top class keeper ready to step up when he retires. The problem with a player like Lloris is that Spurs will make us pay well over the odds.

I agree that RVP will most likely stay and run down his contract rather than move to another country. I would sell Di Maria. He doesn't suit the league and doesn't seem willing to put the work in to adapt. I would try to get as much as possible for him, and do everything to sign Bale. Ed002 said that Real will sell for a price, if we pay that price we will have a player to build our attack around.

Everyone here agrees Schneiderlin would be a big plus to our Squad, but is anyone worried about his recent injury record? I think he has missed about 15 games since November.

Players get injuries, they are pushing themselves to the limit each week, they will pick up knocks etc.
If we were to worry about injured players so much we would end up with no-one. All players we look at will have had a period out, the midfield is the place of the pitch where most of the tackles go in, so some knocks are part of the game.

Does LVG's possession football really suits Rooney? There is no doubt Wayne Rooney is a genius but I have seen him outsmarted by opponents while receiving a pass and he is little bit predictable sometimes. Although Mata have weaknesses his linkup play with Herrera is of high quality even when he was played in the wings and also less outsmarted by opponents. Adding little pace to his game Mata is a better No 10 than rooney.
Mourinho is a great manager but letting Mata out is his positional preference favoring Oscar over Mata, both players are of high quality so in this situation it is not exactly a Mistake. What about De bruyne? It may not be a mistake until someone like city sign him. I read a rumour that city are lining up for Kevin de bruyne and Paul Pogba. If they pull it off along with some other quality signings then title will effectively move to Etihad next season, courtesy to two of the great PL managers in Mourinho and SAF.

Rooney has been called many things, but never a genius haha.

Mata is a technically better player, neither are particularly quick.

De Bruyne apparently won't be leaving Dortmund, but if he did I imagine we would head the queue.
