Ok, I'm kinda sick and tired on Evra's back. It's just got to the point that it is annoying. I understand he had a loathsome season but what happens if gets back to form? You'll be eating your own tongues like how people were talking about Evans when Vidic was injured. Cut him some slack. And if he does flop again, I'm sure SAF we'll find some1 to replace him.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

You could have posted this last summer. This summer should read 'understand he has had two loathsome seasons' and as a result 'SAF is looking to find someone to replace him'.

The proof is in the pudding mate. He managed 1game against England for France before Blanc dropped him for Glichy. Says it all really!

The reason he has been benched for the tournament is that United have been trying to negotiate the contract from the dugout. Fergie has deployed his team of contract midgets. Another fantastic offensive performance today. Thank god we don't have to play powerhouses like them in the PL. what a wasteful preseason. And carrick scholes and anderson should never play together. Ever. Even two of them should never see the pitch at the same time as each are completely useless going forward and none are particularly good tacklers. What a frustrating game to watch and not a good way to be going into the season. Lots of 1-0 wins and 1-0 losses of saf thinks the current system is the right one. -KG

BIFTW

Agree12 Disagree4

Against the nobodies we've played, not getting beaten shouldn't really be our goal. Syd, I'm not commenting on the players, I'm commenting on the system which is what my comments all offseason have been about. When more than one of scholes/carrick/Anderson/fletcher play at any given time we struggle to make chances and score goals. Clearly fitness and sharpness will come, but the formation and lack of attacking desire are long term trends that hurt us last year. -KG

Agree4 Disagree0

KG,

Did you watch the game? One thing we definitely didn't do is 'struggle to make chances', we had loads of chances but the strikers who were playing were in their 1st game back. When Kagawa came on he was fantastic and some of the football we played at times was brilliant.

Preseason is about getting fitness levels up, and that is what we did yesterday. Vidic, Rooney, Welbeck etc getting 60+ minutes is 10x more important than the result of a meaningless game.

The Brazilian Football Federation claim there has been no request for Lucas Moura to leave the camp to have a medical and it would be denied in any case. Nonetheless, Sky Sports are now also running that the Brazilian is close to joining the Reds.

I still think he'll be joining us real soon.

Well reports coming out already that Brazil are denying that Lucas Moura is having a medical, knew it wouldn't be long. Let say the deal is complete by the end of this week, who else would you all like to see brought in starting our 1st game. I would like to see Witsel. And either Van Persie or Lewandowski. It's a tight one between those 2 would edge towards Lewandowski purely because of his age. Would also love to see Hummels in the Red Devils kit when it's time to say bye to Rio. Opinions Ed's anyone else ?

Dylan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a tough one to call for the reasons you state. I wouldnt mind if he goes to fund a deal for Moura TBH but in an ideal world I'd keep him then look to offload Young next summer when Moura is settled. Nani on his day is world class and he's still relatively young which are plus points

To kind of reiterate what some folks have stated, I really do believe that our transfer efforts should revolve around kagawa's unique skill set and, in this regard, I believe that van Persie would be an even better acquisition than people might think. Both are masters of exploiting small spaces in and clever angles in both their passing and shooting. More direct players such as Rooney, Valencia and, perhaps, Lucas will devour the chances they are given. Exciting times ahead if all these building rumors come good. I could see a kind of balls-out lineup like this just rocking teams:

De gea
Valencia.smalling. Vidic. Rafael (I think he's good enough, all around, to play on the left)

Cleverley. Anderson (I still believe)/Carrick

Moura. Kagawa. Rooney (he loves cutting in onto that right foot anyway and works hard defensively)

Rvp.

Impact players available in Hernandez jones welbeck scholes and giggs.

Devastating.

Windy City Red

Believable5 Unbelievable7

So you'd play Rafael at left back and Valencia at right back? Our defence would be horrendous. Carrick is also not in the line up, he will play 7 or 8 games out of every 10.

RedDevil19

Agree0 Disagree0

Those front four could interchange so no real set position. It would be the best front 4 easily in the country.

Red Joe

Agree0 Disagree0

I acknowledge the Carrick omission and understand the game to game reality of his position. However, the proposed lineup was, as I stated, the "balls-out" (it's a technical term) version that could replicate a 7-1 or 8-2 thrashing of a top team. I would love a new left back. As I have stated before, I - like many others - am simply trying to find a means to incorporate tony v in the case that things do go as they seem to be going, transfer wise, at the moment. I know it's a squad game and all, but the thought of a kind of super XI of simply excellent, exciting players is always enticing. Just a bit of Sunday am fun.

Just would like to put my opinion forward,
If we did sign RVP and Lucas Moura I think we could/should play this formation.
-------------De Gea------------
Rafael---Vidic---Rio---Evra
-------------Carrick-----------
--------Moura--Kagawa------
Valencia---------------Rooney
-----------Van Persie--------

Rooney and Kagawa would rotate with Rooney coming deep and Kagawa pushing up, moura and Kagawa/Rooney would push up and play behind Van Persie.

looking at the game man utd really need a confident and consistent striker who can finish and turn a half a chance into to a goal. rooney is more of a attacking centre mid as he consistently drops back and plays as a third midfielder. imo utd need a striker like higuin, benzema or RVP. they really lake a finishing product to a good move

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Couldnt agree more
united were fluid in attacking ... the only thing they missed was the finishing

But we're always like that at the start of the season, if we get RVP or not we still have great finishers at the club already.

When he is on form tbh he scores simple goals what we need is a striker who can pick up the ball and run at the defenders and produce a moment of magic like vannistoory or Henry

Take it from a sao paulo and united fan if we manage to sign Lucas this season or next, 30 mill will seem like pocket change in a couple of years! Hes got pace, skill, a wicked shot and is a very versatile player and while 19 is young its not too young to make an impact in my opinion, hes also a pretty raw talent which would let fergie work his magic with him, when you look at what hes done with players like nani who was pretty average a couple of years back i cant even imagine what he could turn Lucas into!! Also Kagawa to absolutely kill in the league next year!

I don't see why Carrick, Scholes, Cleverley, and Anderson if all stay fit and get rotated why they won't suffice for a season if we sign Moura

Believable2 Unbelievable2

If Anderson is sold we will buy a midfielder, if he stays I doubt we will. Tunnicliffe, Petrucci & Powell are around too, so a midfielder may not be needed unless we sell Ando.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree2

Can't believe this tripe is still being spouted out How many times do you want to see our Midfield overrun?
If Scholesy hadn't of come back we would have ended nowhere near City.
Anderson will never be the answer and i'm sorry to say it I don't think Cleverley will either. Scholes and Carrick are our best middle 2 but with Fletch out there isn't much else until the youngsters come through. We desperately need a CM and have done a few seasons now ever since we realised Hargo was finished.

Red Daz.

Agree2 Disagree3

Red Daz, who would you buy for midfield?

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we need to act now. If we don't then we have major work to do next season as we will have seen Pogba gone to Juve this year, Fletcher may not be good enough, Scholes and Giggs will retire and Carrick is a year older. That would leave us with Anderson, Carrick, Cleverly and then relatively unexperienced Petrucci, Powell, Tunnicliffe. That midfield is no where near good enough to compete with Barca when Scholes goes. I would like to see Witsel come in NOW and not wait until we are desperate for a midfielder.

RedDevil19

Agree2 Disagree1

Red Daz, did you watch the start of last season? Cleverley and Ando were fantastic and ripped teams apart including Tottenham and Arsenal. (Then Clevs got injured). So we don't NEED a CM. We have Tunny, Powell, Clevs, Ando for the future and they will of course feature next season. And we also have Scholes and Carrick who are experienced and defo good enough to be our starting CMs.

Agree1 Disagree0

Reported that Fletch is back in training

Pardoe

Agree0 Disagree0

Witsel for Anderson is very possible.

Sydney!

Agree2 Disagree1

Have to say Syd I would like Martinez but don't think it's possible so it would have to be M'Villa for me.I know people say he is a bit too defensive for us but wasn't Yaya before he went to City.
It is a difficult one. To the no name poster who said Ando and Clev ripped teams apart at the start of last season, how many games did that last?
How open were we at the back?
Think we conceded more shots on goal than any other team in the EPL.
I like us playing attacking football but there has to be a balance.

There is a big debate about how would RVP and Moura and Kagawa line up in the same team. For me, we should spend the mooted £20 million for RVP on someone like Axel Witsel - we would then have a quality central midfielder. RVP would ruin Kagawa as he would constantly be played in an uncomfortable position. SAF did hint that Kagawa will be played in the hole, so hopefully he sticks to that and doesn't sign RVP. When you think about it, the £20 million could easily be spent on other more neady areas, specifically central midfield and at left back - both of which are pressing areas. Hopefully a move for Witsel could come to fruition as when you look at our midfield we have no one who is world class at being a powerful presence. Fletcher is the closest to that but he won't be fit for a while so Witsel would be so useful.

RedDevil19

Believable2 Unbelievable1

Its a squad game mate,

RVP would be a treat.

Last season the comment was always 'what the hell do we do if Rooney isn't playing?' we look weak without rooney and dont have anyone leading the line.

How anyone can suggest we shouldn't be in for van Persie is beyond me. If we sell berbatov and macheda we would have 4 quality strikers who could interchange and are all different so you pick the right 2 in the right matches.

We aren't selling anderson so we have scholes, Anderson, Carrick, Cleverley, powell and kagawa in the middle, not sure where the new player would fit in. ? I would be happy with moura and Rvp, think it would be exciting for the fans and I'd be looking forward so much to seeing them all play.

Ask yourself how ordinary are we without Rooney. Then think how ordinary we would be with van Persie playing instead. That's why we are in for him.

CBF refuse to release Lucas Moura for
Manchester United medical The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) have
refused to release their Brazil international Lucas
Moura for a medical at Manchester United. Late
Saturday evening, The Mail on Sunday and The
Telegraph were reporting that a deal had been
done between United and São Paulo and that Moura would be having a medical at United. But a
statement on the CBF site said they had not
received a request from any English club and in
any case, the player would not be released from
Brazil’s training centre to attend a medical.
When Brazil’s football delegation arrived in the UK in late July, the CBF gave their permission for
Oscar to attend a medical at Chelsea.

I am just going to put my two pence in I would be delighted if we signed both Moura and RVP. It would be a huge signal of intent and would give us a unbelievable chance to reclaim our title. Now I see a lot of people are wondering what formation and team we would play to include all these new signings. Now firstly you have to remember this is a squad game so we will continue to interchange our team throughout the year. Now I would be extremely pleased if we could have this squad for the first game of the season.
__________De Gea
Rafael___Rio____Vidic___Evra
_______Carrick__Cleverley
Moura_____Rooney_____Kagawa
___________RVP
However if everyone was fit I would play Smalling in defence. Now personally I think that is one hell of a team. Although if I had any influence over transfers I would make a further two signings, a left back and a midfielder to lessen the burden on Cleverley. In order to finance those signings I would sell Young (don't think he is good enough and he could raise 20+ million hopefully), Berbatov and Anderson (who I rate highly but he isn't consistent enough unfortunately). Now hopefully that would raise enough to sign Leighton Baines and I would sign Sahin on loan with a view to buy next season. Now personally I believe this team would dominate against most teams if not all them.
____________De Gea
Rafael__Smalling____Vidic___Baines
________Carrick__Sahin
Moura______Rooney_____Kagawa
____________RVP
Now defensively we are solid. Baines will improve our defence drastically and along with the return of Vidic and the improvement of both Smalling, Rafael and De Gea we would be hugely improved. The midfield of Carrick and Sahin would be brilliant Sahin offers a lot defensively and his passing is brilliant. The attack would be the best in the league without a doubt. Having two forwards who will score 25+ goals a season can only be good.
The Red Manc

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I too would get rid of Young, but we won't after just a season. As good as he has been, it would of been much easier if we had not bought him last year as then this problem wouldn't be so apparent.

RedDevil19

How dare you even consider leaving our best Winger? Wow Valencia will start most games this season.

Kagawa HAS to play behind the striker. I think He'd be wasted on the left. Also, I don't want RVP. Very good striker but we have Welbeck and Hernandez developing. Also it would ruin Kagawa

Agree1 Disagree0

But I think we may get izzaguirre (spelling?) and dembele or someone like that which is still awesome.

Doni

I did consider leaving our winger on the bench. However I was just trying to show a team that would accommodate our potential new signings. I would like to see something like this happen during the rest of the transfer window.
Moura will come in
If above happens I think Nani will leave (I'm not saying I would necessarily want this but I think it would happen)
If Nani interests Real, we should ask for either Khedira or Sahin as part of the deal
And finally a left back for around 10 mill? Like Oviedo or someone.
I would also sellAnderson but that's my opinion.

Just a few things this morning. Firstly, bad luck to the GB boys, Cleverly has looked very sharp but I am quite glad that we are out of the football now because we can get our boys back to the club. Club football will always be more interesting than international football - especially Olympic football.

Secondly, things are pointing towards us getting the deal for Lucas Moura done. SAF staying behind, Moura will be in Manchester for the next few days as will his family - hopefully this will all lead to him signing. He has spoken about how good it felt to play at OT, that can only be a positive thing. Hopefully he is going for a medical today like the Mail on Sunday reported. They are also reporting that we are nearing a deal for RVP. I think he has two options, come to us or stay at Arsenal. Personally I don't believe that we will give Arsenal the required fee so he will rebuild his career there - but you never know. Unfortunatly, the Mail loses credibility when it also says that we have signed Lewandowski for next year, signing Lewandowski and RVP would never happen. Other papers are also linking us with Isco - apparently we are going to enquire, this is doubtful.

Overall, spending £50 million on Moura and RVP seems some what over the top in terms of adding to our attacking options. Naturally the big names would look good on the shirt. But in terms of squad balance, it leaves us a little bit top heavy. I can see Moura and a Left Back come in, perhaps we will take a look at Witsel too - I feel that there is interest there but I really don't know. Hopefully Moura and Baines will be the next two to come in. We certainly need a solid Left Back as Moura will probably play on the left - if Evra decideds to play ahead of him as a Left Forward like last season then we will be playing with no one at Left Back most of the time as Moura will not defend as much as Young did.

Im hoping we act on our interest for witsel, he is the player we are missing in our midfield and could pair up with all our cm's at the club already. Dont know how much he would cost but around 22m would be good business in my opninon. Hopefully ed002 will bring good news regarding witsel in the next week or so but doubt it.

People saying what formation would we use if we got RVP and Moura.

Well I have been thinking and this is what I have come up with.

-----DeGea
Rafael-Vidic-Ferdinand-Evra
---------Carrick
Toni---------------Moura
---------Kagawa
-----RVP-------Wazza

as you can see this formation would allow roation in the attack as Rooney and Kagawa can both play as the CF role and The strikers and switch from RVP/Rooney/Chicha/Welbeck.

Maybe this could be the formation we will start to use because I remember in one of our pre-season games we used this with Berba Chicha And Kiko.

Just my opinion, feel free to share your views!

I think if we signed both then

_____________DDG
Rafael___Smalls___Vidic__Evra
______Carrick____Kagawa____
Valencia____Rooney____Moura
____________RVP___________

Obviously that would ruin Kagawa so wouldnt happen so it would have to about squad rotation if it happened.

Agree1 Disagree2

Ive been thinking what we would play if we were to sign moura and rvp and to be honest im stumped, i pretty much had the sam team as yourself but thought it may be to attacking and leave us vulnerable defensively. Im all for signing moura and rvp but cant help but think one of them should be a player like witsel or sahin and if im honest id prefer witsel and moura/rvp. tom17

Carrick is not good enough at being a DM for these formations I don't think. We could do with a good DM for this formation.

RedDevil19

Agree1 Disagree1

Why do people constantly put moura on the left when its not his position!? The same people want to get rid of Nani (not me) as he is inconsistent playing from his unfavoured postion on the left and think they can play moura there and all will be well. Unbelievable!

Fabs

Agree0 Disagree1

It's a squad game, doesn't really matter what formation the 'first 11' will play as we don't have one.

I agree with Fabs, he prefers AM role but even with Brazil he's been getting played on the right.

Dont think the line up (from the OP) would be strong enough in Midfield, Defensively! With just Carrick protecting the back four, i can see Barca easily tearing through us with that formation as their mid-field is Narrow with the width being provided by wingbacks, so it would be 3 players against...Carrick? I think RVP wont happen, dont need him. He doesnt even fall under Fergie's criteria, He is 28-29, very injury prone and has ONE good season! I'd rather take Song from arsenal and Play him beside Carrick or Cleverly in Midfield with rooney up front and Kags just behind.

To be honest i do not think we are calling out for a central midfielder like everyone is saying well not desperate for one anyway, if we have less injuries this season we should be far better off than last. I think Anderson when fit could be class after a few games i dont know why but i just think he is special and with Carrick along side him and then Kagawa in front hed be insane imo

Never spoken to you directly so just thought id say your one person whos posts i enjoy reading.

I noticed on a few occasions you have mentioned a man named miguel delany and believe him to be quite reliable. Well according to him, he reckons the lucas moura deal is done, although he does kind of hint at a little shock because daily fail had also reported this. rvp is very close, nothing in sahin rumours and the baines deal is now dead because everton wont compromise on price what so ever. He also says this news comes from a very reliable source of his. What do you think? Because i didnt believe we were serious about rvp and also thought the rumours of moura deal being done was rubbish. But now im not too sure.

- United to splash £50 million on Lucas Moura (£30 million) and RVP (£20 million).

Sir Alex ferguson has not travelled to Norway so he can sort out the Lucas moura deal after a £30 million fee was agreed
It appears we are also trying to land van persie for £20 million although there are sources saying that van persie could decide to stay at arsenal and sign a new contract after he was apparently impressed by the signings made by arsenal (who have now signed cazorla)
Lewandowski rumour a load of rubbish in my opinion why would we sign him for NEXT season even though this season hasn't started yet

At the beginning of the season it proved Anderson & Cleverley had a great understanding. Bypassing the oppositions midfield & defence though leaving a gap at the back on many occasions.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this again this season.

Near the end of the season Welbeck & Rooney were showing signs of Yorkers & Cole's relationship on the pitch with beautiful interlink.

Hopefully another full sea on ahead it will blossom even more.

If the rumours are true & Lucas & van Persie arrive do you think they will gelling with the rest of the forward lines quick movement and pass n play?

Be interesting to see how Kagawa & Rooney link.
I think Kagawa's quick thinking & through balls will suit Chicharito's style of play.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Why would you want to see more of them ' leaving a gap at the back on many occasions'

they were playing against lower division teams. against better opposition we were wide open down the middle

I want Lucas Moura but not for the expense of Nani.

I know Nani can frustrate us all & especially Rooney.
Thing is Lucas will be exactly the same, dribbles too much with his head down, bad decision making when to pass or run with the ball, over running the play.
He's got all the tools to be WORLD CLASS. I just think he'd be better to learn off Nani.

If we get rid of Nani it might be a case of the "same cow in a different field"

Still assuming the deals won't happen, but why not dream for a second here, and realize the enormous selection issues we will have if we get Lucas and RVP. If we stay 4-4-2, that still means both welbeck and hernandez get far fewer matches. Furthermore, Kagawa likes to play in the hole behind the striker, which would be tough to balance defensively with two strikers. Finally, we would have three right sided players, and only Ashley Young as a left sided midfielder. All of these are GREAT problems to have, but I was wondering what people are thinking in how to use all of these weapons (under the hypothetical that the purchases happen). I mean, Rooney, RVP, Welbeck, Chicharito, Nani, Lucas, Valencia, Kagawa, Young....that's a scary amount of attacking talent. -KG

Believable2 Unbelievable0

The only way to get a lot of them on the pitch is probably in this shape:

__________DDG
Rafa__Ferdy__Vidic__Evra
__Clevs___Carra___Kags
Moura____Rooney___RVP

But even then we are leaving out Valencia, Nani, Young, Welbeck and Hernandez. I expect that there will be a lot of rotation and probably Nani will leave which I really hope is not the case.

Manchester United have agreed a £30million deal for Brazil's Lucas Moura - and Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping to take his spending to close on £50m by finally ending the Robin van Persie transfer saga this week.

Lucas Moura will have a medical in Manchester today after travelling down last night from Newcastle for Brazil's Olympic Games quarter-final against Honduras at St James' Park, where he started on the bench.
Ferguson stayed behind to finalise the Moura business when the team left for Norway yesterday for the match against Valerenga

Sorry for the copy and paste. Lucas seems believable, but I doubt the Van Persie part.

This summer, as reported by Daily Mail - RVP and Lucas in 50m overall deal.

Next summer- Lewandowski as deal has been completed for next summer for polish striker

Believable1 Unbelievable6

So u think u will have Rooney, Rvp, Welbeck and Lewandowski...and ur club is broke? Lewandowski is too good to sit on the bench waiting for rooney or rvp to come off.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see the Moura deal being done, perhaps it already is. RVP I just can't see happening...gut feeling which I've had from the start. The Lewandowski rumors are confusing me if i'm honest, we have been linked with him in the past and I think he'd be a great addition to the club. But why would we buy RVP this summer and then get Lewandowski next summer? They're both very similar players so i'd struggle to see how both they, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez would fit into a team! I say if both parties are interested in a deal, do it this summer if possible. Lewandowski in front of Kagawa and alongside Rooney would be immense.

Financial criteria for a sale has been established and subject to that being met, in theory, a sale can happen.}

Agree0 Disagree0

MANRED, I do not take any journalist's word as gospel, but he is the journalist our manager uses. But you have to bare in mind that our manager's red herring's and bluffs will probably go through Bob Cass too.

Bob Cass has not said Lucas has signed, but believes it's close. Miguel Delaney who has different sources has said the same. I do not believe anything until it happens, lets not forget Hazard was shown around OT and he still went to Chelsea.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - HAzard was always going to go to Chelsea Syd. Moura's parents had a very nice holiday in Madrid at the expense of a football club - I don't recall which.}
