tonight was an absolute joke, NANI, Park were superb and gave everthing and were let down by team mates that were already thinking about the knock out phase, hope this makes fergie and the yanks realise how much we needed to sign a world class midfielder and another striker(sneijder , Modric,) in the summer, think we need to buy big time in jan or it could be the end of not just CL but the end of the premier title, we seem to have lost our desire and seem to go into every match thinking we've already won before kick off

I have to be honest lads i think ashley young has been a flop every 1 hyped him up at the start sayin he began well gettin 3 goals and 5assists? 1 was a lucky og against westbrom the other two were against a 3rd string arsenal team where we won 8-2, as for the 5 assists 3 of dem came from just stopin the ball for rooneys freekicks which the FA still count as assists. Young dusnt look like he can actually skin a player even his crossin has become bad. is it me only can any1 else remember us scorin from a corner.
P.S. tonight was shocking i just hope its like 05.06 season where we go on and rebuild.
Also what u guys think about fergie, i believe hes still prbly of the best managers ever, but what if next season we get knocked out again, do u guys think his job wud be safe? please reply lads {Ed007's Note - I never thought Young was Utd class but was willing to give him a chance. I still don't think he is Utd class.}

LFC fan here, but not to gloat. I know how you must feel, but in the long run it may be a good thing. There is no way you would have won it anyway, at the moment the team is in transition.

For your sakes, I hope Fergie realises that hes had his day. The next team needs to be built by your next manager. All teams go through stages like this. Im sure you will eventually get through it, but hopefully in the meantime, my own club will be sorted (after our own traumas in the last 2 years with the epic swindlers from USA.)

Lets all look forward to some epic games in say...2 years ?

Right after every shocking and deflating defeat a lot of fans like to express their opinions on what should be done to get us out of the slump. I am one of them fans lol.
However I believe major finance is needed to change the club and restore it as the powerhouse it WAS in Europe and England.

In the goal keeping section we are fine. I have high hopes for De Gea and it is obvious the majority of opposition supporters and pundits try to put him down and belittle him. Lindengaard is capable of being first choice and is a top keeper aswell. Amos is a good third choice keeper and does a job when called upon. Kuschack is leaving.. end of. Won't be here next year or even in January.

VERDICT - Secure with only Kuschack leaving

In defence we have very good options for centre back and right back. However in saying that I think work needs to be done in the centre back position. IMO Rio and Evans should both be sold. Rio is past his peak and we could get a bit of money for him now. Evans is too risky. Always makes a mistake under pressure and costs the team, ie the city game. I would sign Rodwell to play in defence as he is a very good player and will only get better playing at manutd. Evra has to go at the end of his year and I would select Alba as his replacement. Equally as good going forward and defends well. I also have huge expectations of Rafael. Something in him just makes me value him so highly. He is like a mini Neville. He will fight for this club. I think he will be a top player for us. Unfortunately he needs to shake of all these niggles but we have a lot of cover for him with Smalling, Fletcher, Jones and Valencia as well as his brother all being versatile.

VERDICT - Rio, Evans and Evra out. Rodwell and Alba in.

In midfield it is obvious, we need a HUGE improvement. I actually think the only people worth keeping are Cleverley and Fletcher (Brilliant squad player and will give his all). I would hope that Giggs retires, leaving as a professional as I would hate to see him starting to struggle on the pitch. Carrick I don't think he is as bad as people say he is, he does a decent job. However decent is not good enough we should have the best. He is only going to get worse while getting older and we could get more then 8 million for him so it makes financial sense. Anderson has had enough chances I rated him so highly before this year, he just doesn't seem to have that drive and determination needed in midfield. Finally Gibson is a MUST to leave and I think Park should leave as well, as his performances I have been awful so far this year but would give him the year to improve as he is usually better at the latter stages of the campaign. Finally I would make 3 high profile and significant signings. I would sign Eriksen AND Götze as our attack has been suffering the most lately and both have different playing styles and both WILL be world class players. I have no doubt about it. The last signing being Martinez as he offers the defensive approach needed as well. Him, Fletcher, Jones and Rodwell can all play the role. It leaves five players Fletcher, Cleverley, Marintez, Götze and Eriksen going for normally two positions maybe 3 resulting in more squad competition which all the tops team have, look at Barcelona's midfield.

VERDICT - Out Giggs, Park, Carrick, Anderson and Gibson. Incoming Götze, Eriksen and Martinez

In attack there is a significant amount of deadwood. Berbatov looks like he is leaving which will bring in around 10 million. I would let Macheda, Owen and Diouf leave as well. Keeping Rooney, Welbeck and Chicharito. Now only one of them is currently world class (not solemnly on the basis of one match as we post people think tonight). Therefore I think either Robin Van Persie (unlikely) or Higuain should be a necessity to add experience and a lot more quality in our attack. On the wings we would have Young, Nani and Valencia. Now looking at that there is no left footed winger there. The only world class ones I can think of are Di Maria (very expensive), Bale (even more expensive) and Shaqiri. Now I know a lot will judge me for jumping on his bandwagon which is certain to reoccur. However he was extremely good tonight. Now I would not sign him after one game but am going to follow him closely for the rest of the year to see how he progresses as he has huge talent and is physically built so will not be affected playing in the premiership. On the wings it is probably the least prioritised area and if the rest of those players above were purchased Nani, Young, Valencia, Welbeck, Rooney, Götze, Fletcher and the twins can operate there.

VERDICT - Deadwood out, so Berbatov, Macheda, Diouf,Owen out. Incoming either RVP or Higuain and one of Di Maria, Bale or Shaqiri.

Finally I know that is a huge squad overall and I have realised I have been playing too much FIFA as of late but can any Manchester United fan say that huge changes are not needed? I have suggested 7 new faces which doesn't seem too unrealistic (the number of signings not who the signings are) over two windows.
So what significant changes would you make?

Not just because of tonight but I've thought it for a while that shaqiri would be a great signing for us and I doubt would cost any more than £10M,would love to see javi martinez also but not sure that's going to happen.
Need to get rid of the dead wood in the squad now aswell, carrick, park, berbatov, gibson, macheda, anderson and of course evans all need to go now and get so more creative players who are good on the ball who know how to pass a ball!
Also I'd get rid of valencia and try and replace him with junior hoilett of blackburn.
One things for sure though big changes needed to this squad in my opinion!

Congrats to basle..... over the 2 games they deserved to beat us........ and qualify ALL THE BEST TO THEM

the one good thing that may now come out of this is fergie may now push more of the squad players out and bring in the talent that we are in desperate need of. As syd mentioned in another post the lost revenue of now being out of the cl may make the glazers put their hands in those deep deep pockets.....we can only hope...

it may also mean that certain youth prospects now get game time in a competition that i can see fergie not wanting to us 1st team players in and this may stand us in good sted for the next year with the experience they would gain in the competition

we sure showed sniejder. His going to miss out on all the fantastic europa football in exchange for the boring champion league football
The revenue we will lose from missin out on champions league football is more than the cost of sniejders wages. What a good piece of business.
Speaking of greedy mecernaries, rooney missed 2 clear cut opportunities, cant help but imagine what the outcome would have been with someone like rvp, cavani or higuain up there instead and a creative player like sniejder on the edge of the box.

This result undeniably illustrates demonstrably the average quality of our squad at this moment in time. Comparative to the standards that need to be met, and indeed have been set by Saf, we are falling considerably short. If the current squad is assessed in relation to teams outside the top four of the EPL and teams that don't expect to atleast make semi-finals of CL, then yes we are competitive or on par. I do not think it is unfair to say that not only on paper, but on performance, we will labour to add to our trophy cabinet this season. Having watched Barcelona's B team yesterday, and City's squad domestically now that they can prioritise the league and FA cup, our squad requires a serious overhaul in direction to overcome the challanges we face. Current fringe players, and majority of the youth coming through are not good enough. Barcelona can argue their young players have the potential to make the grade, City have the financial resource to fund two very competitive teams, we are struggling to put out one team that you could argue that could win anything!

So has anyone said "this could be a blessing in disguise" yet? I hope not.

The owners need the CL revenue, and if it's not forthcoming, they will cut their cloth to suit. Forget any major signings in January or next summer on the back of this disgraceful Champions League campaign.
I mean, who did we play?

"We have a big squad" SAF will state. But we know the quality in vital areas isn't there. In fact we knew that last summer, didn't we?

The owners were always going to have an adverse effect. 75m on ownership debt, salaries and expenses had to have an effect. The great SAF has put off the inevitable, but we all know it was coming.

Trying to get Neville and Scholes to play on was the stark warning!

SAF's arrogance avoided us to qualify. We really never used a good team is this CL group stage... I really don't give a f***ck! Was better like this otherwise we would be humiliated again in the CL and I hope it serves as wake up call to Mrs. AF and his pseudo Amazing squad.

The easiest group with the last CL finalist... Joke, Joke...

No trophies after spending that much? Who we bought?
Jones- good
Young-good
Gea- necessary(great)
CM-?
AM?
DM-?

We gave all the season's hope to Cleverly and now we end up on the s**t, just like Man City.

No PL, no Carling Cup, no CL and in the end of everything I'm sure that will hear people say about the positives to take against BASEL. F****k

Throw everything on my post but you that is the truth, WE ARE BANAL right now and won't win nothing, end of story.

We should play kids I.e. Morrison, will and michael keane etc in the europa league.
This appalling result means we actually have to beat city on january 8th.

We should try and sign shinji kagawa in january to solve the issue of our one dimensional midfield play.

Well, fergie can't say he didn't see this coming, and to make matters worse.this was the easiest of groups.couldn't hold back the tears tonight.
Fergie should buy players and stop giving excuses of not being united's standard.
Last transfer window some players like-
turan
vidal
witsel
defour
costa
diego
and some other players were avaliable.
If we had signed at least two of the above players, even though they might not be world class, but they would have performed far better than the midfielders we currently have.
Apart from the keeping department, the midfield and striking positions are weak.
Rooney and chica are good players, but when one or both of them gets injured, who would stand in for them?is it welbeck, macheda?owen? Or berbie?.the answer is no.
We need 2 midfielders,a left back and a striker.
January transfer is a must or we might exprience worse suituation than this.

ok we lost & as usual this site is swamped with doom and gloomers bemoaning our performance. we lost for 2main reasons we had 2mistakes from 2young players, who will learn from this and second we failed to convert our chances (of which there were plenty) but considering we have 3strikers out injured and our main man is not in the best scoring form it was never going to be a goal fest.
tbh i think we have a better chance of winning a european cup now than chelski or arsenal so lets all relax a bit

I'll probably think differently after I have cooled off but I am livid.

It wasn't our night tonight plain and simple, the ref had a poor game and the bounce just bounced away from us where it just fell it to there path. Even saying that we were poor, the penetration and actual presence in the box was dire. Rooney had an abysmal game, his mind was clearly somewhere else. For the second goal I could hardly believe my eyes that Smalling just let that go, shocking defending and awareness. Basel just shoved 9 men behind the ball everytime we attacked and it worked, well done.

Ok that's tonight done with, now the 9 points we gained say it all to me and I'm not crying we didnt buy that's where we went wrong because it's not. That squad of 'professional' players should of walked that group. There's no way we should have not beaten Benfica and Basel at home. It is simply unacceptable. The players are an embaressment and should hate playing in the Europa league because it's what they deserve. I sincerely hope this is the slap in the face that some players at the club needed, otherwise this is going to be a very long year if we don't dip in to the market in January.

Literally, the only silver lining I can see from this is that the Europa league will be a good platform for the youngsters to step their game up and give them some experience.

I think the players need to take a long look in the mirror and see if they want to be at this club or think they are good enough for this club.

Roy Keane couldn't of said it any better. We got what we deserved.

I understand what SAF was trying to do with playing giggs and Park in midfield what with the experience n'all, but It just didn't work.

we're going to get the same stuff we got six years ago with the 'united are over' BS, but it's been said time and time again that we're simply going through a transitional period and we've just got to deal with it.

Will we come back as the mighty United of old, I'm not so sure, our current squad looks full of potential but I think we're overhyping some of it and they won't set the world alight as some are expecting.

It'll be a tough 2/3 years but I'm sure we'll be fine in the long run.

Onwards and upwards though, congrats to Basel, they played really well, we didn't, end of story.

In years gone by, after a sh!t result like tonight, I would have thought "It's not great, but SAF will rollock them and they will respond". Am I the only one that thinks this won't be case? SAF will blab some rubbish to the media that our squad's fine and we have lots of injuries. Just confront the problem, SAF. Tell them they're playing sh!t, but most importantly, tell them they're playing for Manchester United. Go to any clinic SAF and they will tell you, the first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem to begin with!

We did not lose this tonight or in the two home games against Basel and Benfica. We lost this in the last 5 transfer windows with our shocking lack of purchases in the areas we needed. A few days ago I mentioned 2005 and there are similarities. An inability by SAF to see the obvious has now has been laid out in front of him and everyone else for all to see. Lets see the Glazers increase the revenue stream in the Europa league.

Now those who said we were not in decline, would you like to comment now?

At what point will Sydney and co finally acknowledge the problem of greedy owners and a manager whose stubborness and over confidence in his experienced players means he needs to have this happen to have his eyes opened.

Our problem now is we dont have the money to put it right and actually forget January as who will want to play in the Europa league? There again the Glazers will get good money for Rooney, a new revenue stream for them. SAF will blame the young players inexperience instead of looking at having to rely on Giggs and Park in midfield. Shocking. There has to be an element of blame at SAF's door for poor purchases and tactics. Why does SAF think that injury prone Owen (injured), Berbatov who he didnt give a gave to for half of last season, Diouf ( cant do it in the reserves) Macheda ( going backwards) are good enough?

The one good thing about this is that it should open the eyes of Glazer and SAF. No more platitudes about strong squads is acceptable and all those on here who say it is should be ashamed.

Cue the dramatics. ''Sell Rooney'', ''Fergie out'', ''we need to spend £200m on this squad''

Seriously though, first half was one our better performances (at least of the last couple of months...) and I felt we were unlucky to have the stuffing knocked out of us with their goal- whish I still maintain should not have stood. It's pretty clear the squad is not up to it, with all the injuries have we've had such limited options (in midfield I'm talking about).

But it's pretty clear that the confidence is suffering. The early season form was, in my opinion, a result of young, fresh energy and ideas being brought into the team with Welbeck, Cleverley, Jones, etc. but now we've got injuries and the confidence is zapped with recent results. I genuinely believe we were still incredibley unlucky to lose that game.

I'll get the disagrees I'm sure but I'd like some real discussion too.

So apparently SAF put a number of players on the transfer list following the defeat to Crystal Palace last week. Darron Gibson reported to be one of them. Is this true? If so, who were the other players listed?
Also, heard Vidic is unhappy with SAF for some reason and would be happy to leave the club. Any truth in this?

Great first half display, half decent 2nd half display, just no end product. Why Macheda came on and not Valencia is beyond me, Macheda couldn't hit a barn door whereas Valencia would have ran at the fullbacks. So it will be the Europa league, not sure we will take that too seriously, perhaps a chance to do some youth blooding. What does this mean financially? Well we have already made a minimum of £26m in prize money, so we will be taken a £20m hit from last year's £46m, but we will earn an extra £5m from the EPL as all teams will. So we haven't been hit too bad financially so there is no reason not to spend in the summer. It also means we can now theoretically sign players who have played in the CL this season. I will be proper p1ssed if Basel draw Apoel Nicosia next round, but even though the Europa is pretty naff, we will play some minnows that we have never played before, could be great experience for the youth.

What an absolute joke. To be honest i kind of am glad we are out of the competition, because we simply arent good enough and it had to happen to finally make fergie and the glazers realise it and finally smell the coffee.

Theres been too much crap going on about no value in the market, giving the youth a chance, happy with the current squad.....blah blah blah....its just been a load of crap from fergie and im sick of it.....we are all SICK OF IT!!

We are manchester united at the end of the day, we have our history, we have have our traditions, but this is an asbolute mockery of what we represent! there is no passion what so ever with this current squad from defence all the way through to attack.....

I just dont know what to say i really dont......

The days of keane, cantona, scholes etc are well and truely over.....and all we have now is a team of spuds....

On another note though i have to say nani was outstanding!

But the rest was woeful....

If fergie doesnt go out and make a huge signing in january (although i know people will say we never sign big) fact of the matter is we have to end of story!

This may be a blessing in disguise, as results are now affecting the rat faced faced Glazers wallets this may force their hand (yeah right). Rooney should be benched at the weekend, he cant play professional football at the moment, never mind white pele, hes a pale heskey. an complete disrepectful display from united! i feel the fans should be upset with the team. as united belive they are the biggest club an as fans of this club we fans should be critical! i think i massive change is neeed at united as there recent games have not been acceptable. i feel alex is a brilliant manager but i feel this should be his last season! many of you will not agree but i am a huge sir alex fan an would love him here at our team for years to come but i feel his time is an should come to an end!

as for the players they should apologise for this season even if we win the league!

Before we get all the doom and gloom merchants on here, I would just like to say that although we do need some new faces, we had absolutely no luck tonight. We had Rooneys chance missed which every other time in a season he would have scored, we lost Vidic, before their 2nd Rooney made a tackle on the edge of the box which then got stuck in his feet which would have been a break otherwise, the ref only added 30 secs extra injury time rather than 2 mins he should have done for time wasting, etc. etc. the list is pretty much endless. In fact the only luck we did have was when Jones got the goal but that was too late.

United are an absolute shambles, the game is run by the chairmen, if you have owners that take money out for their own pockets while others plow 10 times that into signing players then you get left behind....miles behind!

Either the glazers put money into the squad to the tune of €150m or they should sell to a chairman who loves the club otherwise all those asian fans will start to follow man city which means uniteds finances will dwindle even more. I hate to say it but this has been coming.

Both Nani and Evra have been excellent. We need Young off and Valencia on.

Vidic reacted like Suarez in a tackle with his arm in the air indicating a serious injury. The only difference is Vidic looks like a bad one, and that is why Suarez is a disgrace to his profession.

Why didn't we start with Jones and Fletcher as deeper midfielders with Giggs supporting the attack rather that JS Park?

Actually playing well, that's the frustrating thing. Basel goal was a big blow (since when do head injuries not result in a stop in play by the way??)

Nani started poorly but since his little trick came off he has grow into it.. an arrogant Nani looks much better than a meek, tame Nani I must say..

And well with Vidic we've been lucky so far with injuries so it was bound to happen sooner or later.... wait, hang on.........

We have dominated, just need a fox in the box and Rooney isn't that fox in the box. Welbeck is a must. Nani has been very good, would like to see Young actually try and take on a player like he used too. Vidic has damaged his knee ligaments, hope he has just tweaked them, but I imagine they are torn and we will not see him until February at least.

Good first half, just need to finish the attacks off, what a difference RVP would make to this game.

Yet you choose to ignore the fact that Liverpool are 10 points behind us.We are are playing crap and still we are 10 yes 10 points ahead of Liverpool so when we start playing decent football again(which we will) how many points will Liverpool be behind us then?

Stop worrying about us and start worrying about your own team as they are in a worse position then us.

"Dear Santa Clause,

I have been a good boy this year, and have paid my dues in helping the unwelcomed (one Andrew Carroll) in making a career for themselves, albeit as my horse.

As of this, I believe I am due in line for some prezzies, so...this Christmas I ask for a new Centre-Back for Liverpool Football Club, a new Striker to take the place of Bench Boy Andy and, a new...a new....scrap that just get me the f**k out of here, these lads are sh**e!

For me we need three players. We two centre mids and a left back. I would get one more defensive mid and one more creative mid. For now we can rotate Jones, Fletcher, Carrick and Cleverley. Come January, I would get Martinez and I would play him and Cleverley and rotate Carrick, Fletcher and Jones. Last season I wanted Gotze so I'd try to get him come next summer and I would get Alba to replace Evra although I would Evra for experience for at least a year. Then sell the likes of Gibson, Kuszczak, Macheda, Owen, Diouf, Park, plus Giggs may retire. Gilly

Believable2 Unbelievable0

07 Dec 2011 16:52:18
Right - lets look at this from a far without personal feelings and wants in this. What does our team need? Well, arguably a left back, probably the case. A couple of central midfielders for sure, and perhaps a winger and striker depending on departures.

So for Left back, we aren't happy with Evra, but he's done okay sometimes, and is he going to leave? I doubt it, why would SAF give the captain's armband (sometimes) to someone who he wanted to replace? Doesn't make sense to me. If we go for a left back then i'd like a solid one, a German would make sense like Fuchs or Schmelzer. Another left back to add competition makes sense, then Fabio and Rafael fight it out for the RB spot, leaving Smalling and Jones covering the injury prone twins. But, if we didnt go for a left back then maybe a CD would be needed. One will eventually be needed, we're injury prone in defence. One of Rami, Benatia and Subotic would be fantastic - If Ferdinand was to leave.

Midfield - the 'problem area'. Two players in my mind are Rodwell and Kovacec (sp?). Yes, Jones, Carrick, Fletcher can all play a bit deeper for steel, but other than Jones who will be a CB in my eyes, they dont have that strong physique like a Yaya Toure and they certianly aren't going to grow into it. Rodwell would give us a player for now and the future in the Roy Keane mould. Put him alongside Cleverly and you'd have a great partnership and its British. For attacking flair i'd take Kovacic, a couple of years younger than Gotze but will probably be better, he's less well known and favours us over everyone. We've done well in brining in new players, such as Ronaldo and we can mold this kid into what we want.

On the wings, i think that Giggs and Park will soon be out the door, can't say when for sure but it will be the next couple of seasons. And if Valencia doesn't pick up his game then he could be in trouble too, hopefully he will get back to what he was, but who knows... Even with Valencia that would leave us with Young, Nani and him. An extra left footed winger would fit the bill, and for me thats Shaquiri. I'm looking forward to wathching him tonight, if he impresses then a move is probably likely.

Up top, Diouf, Berbatov and Owen will now no longer cut it. Diouf has looked exceedingly poor, Berbatov doesn't fit in our squad and Owen is quality but can't get a game for one reason or another. So with those departures we'd have Rooney, Chicharito, Welbeck, Macheda. Who knows if Macheda will come good, with match sharpness i personally believe that he will, and i really hope that is the case. The striker i'd bring in would be someone mobile with strength, ideally would have been Aguero, but Rossi could be available, as would someone like Higuain who is a good finisher. Moving for someone like that would be good in my opinion. Probably a youngster will be in line so expect bids for one of Gabbadini, Iturbe or E. Torres.

My squad would ideally shape up like this:

GK's: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos.

Def: Rafael, Fabio, Evra, Schmelzer, Smalling, Jones, Benatia, Vidic, Evans (perhaps Ferdinand).

Mid: Nani, Young, Valencia, Shaqiri, Cleverly, Anderson, Rodwell, Kovacic, Carrick, Fletcher.

Att: Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Macheda, Iturbe.

Youngsters: Johnstone, Fryers, Thorpe, Blackett, Morrison, Pogba, Tunniclife, Petrucci, Keane's.

That for me is a young, fresh, mobile and versatile team who could fit into many formations. Its not overly young, you still have the experienced players such as Evra, Vidic, (Ferdinand), Carrick, Fletcher, Rooney etc) to keep the senior/junior balance of the squad.

Thoughts? Im sure there are going to be some criticisms. Interested to hear Syd's view on this ;)

URGENT APPEAL TO BOTH MANCHESTER CLUBS
its very important that to enable 4 teams from england to enter the c.l. long-term ,we set aside the nasty stuff of wanting each others teams to get beat , its not just this or next season , i think they take the ratings of english teams over a 5 yrs period , and yes if lpool make 4th in the prem , this could help , but even next season or the season after , utd could finish 4th , so everyone can see- keep english footie strong , the french and germans want to run our money - system , never mind football , if they had there way , england would have only 3 teams to enter the c.l. if they could............lfc...............ps , even utd should draw at least against basle , dont you think.

Wat we needed is a buzz to get our squad in form, and the exit in carling cup did that.
And i would like us to meet a top club in Europe, in the next round.
Hopefully we will have our injured players (Cleverley,Owen,Berbatov) fit for the knock out round.

I dont feel ashamed to expect something good from the team that i support and thats wat make me a United Fan.

Good Morning Guys
I'm sitting here this morning wondering how the hell we need a result tonight just to finish second in a group we should have easily won. Then my mind wanders back to the last time we finished second in a qualifying group when we went onto win it.Now I realise the group back in 98-99 was much harder but you never know.
That said there is no doubt this team is nowhere near as good as the treble winning side but we are Manchester United and anyone that pulls on the Red shirt should be good enough to go to Basle and win.
So I guess we will all be glued to the tv at 19.45 and no doubt we will be put through 90 minutes of nerve tingling, nail biting and heads in our hands stuff. As I said we are Manchester United and I expect to be in the draw for the next round.

You really have to wonder what goes on in SAF mind? He is not signing anyone in January. FULL STOP! he is too stubborn and wants to see how his youngsters will fair.
Having said that Evans is gash, The Midfield at this moment is woeful and Rooney playing just off Hernandez just ain't producing the goals? So will his hand be forced? I see ALEX from chelsea is going cheap? Whay not he is a seasoned centre half and we could dump Evans where he belongs, at Sunderland!

Why not give Becks 6 months? he would certainly bring in the coin and morale would be boosted too?

Someone has to come in, in January but Old Strawberry nose won't do it? After all we are not going to beat Citeh in the FA cup and anyone who says otherwise is a fool!!
