Just want to wish my son all the very best in his P7 Transfer test tomorrow.

'Utd related how'? I hear you all cry.

Well, if he gets to the local grammar school, he'll be playing rugby instead of football, and this could signal the death knell for his dreams of playing left back/wing for United!

I'm torn!

StevieK {Ed007's Note - Good luck to him Stevie.}

Chelsea or Liverpool who'll you support for their clash ?
I'd love to see L'pool win there, a pool win there would benefit United a lot, they'll 4 points off them if they beat Villa.
I cant see Luiz & Terry containing Suarez.

If it wasn't for the refs help in games you lot would have half the points.

With regards to the anthem debate, United have by far got one of the longest list of chants in any country, let alone Britain. I always thought the chant that is sung the loudest and with the most passion was 'UNI-TED United are the team for me'. That one is probably the one that is sung the most. For an anthem, This is the one was always good.

G.A.G.U.S

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Does it really matter if we have an anthem or not?

I mean "You'll Never walk Alone" is one of the most sung songs around the world, loads of clubs sing it. And yeah its great when they do sing it but then the after that the atmospehere goes flat. Apart from Celtic which is usually good atmosphere, but i wouldn't say it was Celtics anthem, more like "Fields of Athenry is Celtics anthem.

We have our chants and we have plenty of them relating to current and former players and our history. We coped for decades without an anthem so why start now?

Agree2 Disagree0

United's anthem song is and should be The "Red flag" which everyone knows the chorus but not all the verses, but it's only the chorus that gets sung at O.T.

Fields of athenry is an irish country song. Every club steals other songs and changes the words.

Someone's mentioned the atmosphere at OT and we need an anthem before the game........

When Sir Alex leaves it would only be right to sing about him.

The Killers: All these things that I've done.

United fans sing: All these trophies Fergie won.

With all the words changed to decorate our club.

When it comes to "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier"

United fans sing: "We got Ole, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer"

That would be tops if he took over as the boss.

Original song only United could sing.

About the old boss & possible the new.

If u wanna knock some amusing lyrics to this song be my guest.

TJ
---------------------------------------------------------

Saw you're post when rehearsing with my band, made me laugh and we came up with this…

With all these trophies fergie won,
You would think that we'd be done,
That we'd be done,
But as we win for fun,
But as we win for fun,
There'll always be another one,

I wanna double, I wanna treble,
You know, you know, oh you know, it will come,
As long as Rooney's got legs to run, the red devils will get us another one,
And if you're headaches and you're heart breaks,
You're so much older then you can take,
Then Ole Solskjaer (or whatever manager) will get us through,
Show us direction, to perfection, if not no no help em out,
RVP you know you gotta help us out,
Chicharito put em all on the back foot,
Yeah we block the blue moon out, yeah

And when there's no-where else to run, Ballotelli's race is done,
Mancini is on benefit, United will be sitting at the summit,

RVP you know you gotta help us out,
Chicharito put em all on the back foot,
Yeah we block the blue moon out, yeah
We block the blue moon out, yeah
We'll knock em all out…

We got Ole, Ole Gunner Solskjaer….

He was at the Porto game Friday and was at the Celtic game on Wednesday. Keeping tabs on Rodriguez and Wanyama it seems.

For what its worth Just checked lineup from last Friday, Rodriguez got 2 goals on the 5-0 win, only other notable players involved who suit us age wise would be Moutinho, Fernando, Martinez (doubtful interest), otamendi(doubtful), danilo (doubtful) and defour came of the bench(again doubtful interest).

Just been watching some DVD's of our previous seasons. And one stand out player is Nani, he just seemed to always drive forward and produce a goal or assist. I really don't understand where this Nani has gone, he has no confidence.

I think he thinks he has to live up to the expectation of Ronaldo, he needs to be himself in games and now I don't think their is any way for him to stay with us now.

Once he leaves I will truly miss him as he used to give a spark in the team and to be honest I don't think their are many players that we can buy good enough to play in his position, I can only think of a handful of wingers such as Muniain, Rodriguez, Neymar, Gaitan and maybe Isco, but he is a CAM not a winger.

I just hope that SAF will get the correct replacement for Nani, because I think if we replace him with someone like Ince (Who has the potential but isn't amazing yet) I could see us missing a talented player.

Just like RVP if you buy class players you get class performances, we don't want another play who 'could' become a world class player.

-JakeW

Believable11 Unbelievable2

There is no doubt that Nani was a class player, even if he was inconsistent. However he does seem to have lost it, he is even more inconsistent than ever - this simply should not be the case. If he could turn it around I would be happy for him to stay, but it doe not seem at all likely.

We need steel in our midfield & i see Wanyama as key...the boy has presence with his physique, he's got calmness with ball possession & distribution, he can intercept & tackle very well. Moreso, he's athletic & very good aerially. He plays DM, CD & CM. He's solution to our defensive midfield problem, he can shield our defence and hide our deficiency there... Would love us to go for him in January.

Wanayama, celtic midfielder? long shot specialist, cracking game against barcelona and scored the decider, 21 years old and could fill our scholesy position when him, giggsy and carrick retires. could come for 15m in january too. United to win champions league? its more of a open contest since barcelona reached peak however if we are to stand a chance we need to renovate our defence quick as possible with smalling, jones and buttner playing more of a prominent role.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

How could Wanayama fill Scholes role, when they are both completely different players!

Heard a rumour that martin ferguson was a porto scouting rodriguez.

anyone know weather or not this is true?

G.N.G

Believable0 Unbelievable1

It might, but i just dont see us guetting him. Anything above 25 Mils for him would be too much when we can have muniain and isco for 15-25, and they are both younger and just as godd, if not better.

For the kind of money Porto are looking for, guetting gotze would be cheaper.

Mick {Ed002's Note - Interest in Rodriguez remains. Three clubs spoke to Porto about James Rodrigues over the summer and two bids were rejected. Neither matched Porto's valuation of the player. The bidding clubs were Manchester United and Palermo whilst Bayern Munich looking looking carefully at Rodrigues as an alternative to Dries Mertens who they are keen to move for next summer. There may well have been enquiries from other clubs including Juventus and Napoli. It may be tough to find someone to pay the sort of fee Porto would be looking for.}

Morning Gents,

Been off for a while enjoying us returning to the top of the league and qualifying for the later rounds of the Champions League and coming back on here you'd think we are struggling to qualify from the group stages, off the pace in the Premier League and have a team full of mediocre, mid table players!

What makes me laugh but also frustrates me is people come on here and say we cannot compete with Barcelona, performance wise and don't have the players to dominate teams anymore but yet when we grind out results the same people come on here and moan about the performane? Well you've already stated we're not the team we used to be so would you rather that be proved by getting beat week in, week out, in which you will be the first on here to complain or would you prefer to grind out wins week in, week out and be competing for titles? I know which I'd prefer! What we have in this team and what people fail to remeber with past teams is that United have a fantastic work ethic and drive every time they play, something that alot of teams do not have and if you do not have this, you will never compete. The classy football will follow but you need that work rate first and foremost. This is why I believe City have started slow this year, they are champions and now are the biggest scalp in the League so teams will up their work rate against them and for me, City have failed to up theirs as yet and thought their class would be enough but it's not! Celtic are a great example after their two performances against Barcelona on work rate and Chelsea in the 2 semis and final of the Champions League last year are another example.

United have this installed in them and this is why we are always there or there abouts come the end of the season. We also come good notoriously after Christmas so perfromances will improve. We also have enough quality in the team to beat sides as well even if performances aren't quite what we expect at the moment so people can't say that workrate is not enough!

I also have to laugh at the people who criticise Rooney and his actions. These people moan and criticise the Glazers for taking money out of the club and not investing in the team, won't get into that debate now but what was Rooney's concerns? Our ambitions! Investing quality in the team! Same as the people who are critising the Glazers but these people are also critising Rooney! Strange? So the Glazers make a statement about our ambitions by offering Rooney a big contract to ensure him they are prepared to invest in the team, tying down our best player, investing in the team! This is what people who criticise the Glazers wanted but now they are criticising Rooney for signing the contract even though he wanted what these people wanted!

So these people criticise Rooney for making United break the wage structure for him but these people also criticise United and defend Pogba when United broke the wage structure and offered him the biggest contract a youth player has ever been offered at United! What's the difference? I expect people will come on and say it wasn't money for Pogba but about football time but surely offering him the biggest contract a youth player has ever been offered suggests what SAF thought of the lad and that he would be in the plans?! SAF wouldn't offer him a contract like that to play reserve football would he!

Finally, these people moan about youth not being given a chance at United but then criticise the youth that are, Welbeck for example and then call for us to sign all these different players? But when we don't they moan again! Well we can't give youth a chance and sign all these players, we have to balance it out between youth and buying in! This year the kids have had opportunities, Wootton, Keane, Tunnicliffe, Powell, Brady etc but it has to be graduall, the League Cup against Chelsea was a great experience for the kids that played but also showed their inexperience so you have to MANAGE their development!

Please people just enjoy where we are and the players that play for us and get behind the team and whether you agree or not ( I appreciate some people just like moaning and see the glass as always half empty!) I'm sure we can all agree that it is great and funny how United have more points in the Champions League group stage after 4 games then Liverpool have in the Premier League! :)

Have a great weekend people., little prediction, you'll see a performance against Villa Saturday by the lads!

Mr. Ports, thats one of the best post i have read. There are fans and there are supporters.

Stanod

Agree0 Disagree7

Harrumph. So, if you have issues within Rooney that means you are not a fan? What garbage. It's about opinions...Percy loves Nani, Sydney loves Cleverley (and hates Evra) and a number of people are not huge fans of Rooney. That's their opinions and they are entitled to them. I may not agree with some people (and often don't) but most people on here are genuine and have genuinely held views. To denigrate them for these views is infantile. I may not agree with KLOOT or Sydney or GDS or Ports on everything, but I respect their right to have a different view to me. It does make me or them less of a fan.

AJH

Agree7 Disagree0

Mr stanod I like the part in your comment about there been fans and supporters.I think if you check on notice you will see the same very people who come on this site and moan and criticise every single player are the ones who comments mostly on this site because all they do is find fault and just go on their keyboard and criticise every player especially one mr kloot who can never see any good perfomance by rooney even if he scores an hatrick.

Andy p

Agree1 Disagree5

Agree with the over-riding sentiment of your post Ports, but also have to agree with AJH - supporting the team does not have to be incompatible with making constructive criticism when things aren't right.

I have no time for the infantile whingeing of the Johnny come lately fans, who demand instant success and will not tolerate one bad game, nor for the disrespectful abuse of some of our greats masquerading as criticism.

However, I will always defend the right of any supporter to voice a well-thought out critique of a player/system/tactic. These people still have the interests of our great club at heart - in fact they only criticise because they care.

It seems rather juvenile to suggest that someone is a better supporter of our club, just because they cheer loudly and unquestioningly.

The game is all about opinions mate, and it would be pretty boring if we all just acted like sheep.

You know why there is a problem? Some people just to "justify" their dislike for a player would rather prefer the team and the player suffer. That is plain and simple - SAD. Count the number of misplaced passes in a match? Seriously is that the only thing you want to watch in a United match? Sorry, if there is something you don't like about a player, talk about it. But wishing for that player to play like piss is TWISTED.

Different opinions always make it interesting. But we should all get back to just doing one thing when the game starts. Back the men there!

Personally I think Ryan Giggs will be Uniteds next manager with the possibility of Solksjaer involved somewhere.

Think about Guardiola great bloke etc but he inherited a fantastic side from Rijkaard which with all due respect I could have probably steered to glory.

Mourinho? No chance everybody knows he needs us more than we need him. He just wants to massage his ego a bit more because he knows we are the biggest club in the world. And before people come on here talking about us being behind them and Barca in the financial standings, just imagine if we could negotiate our own TV deals, like they do, we'd leave them for dead.

I think the next United manager is already known within the club. Giggs did his badges years ago, so did Scholesy

I don't know why SAF isn't giving Anderson and cleverly a go together as a midfield partnership. They did great last season before injuries struck and now that they are fit, we are only seeing bits and pieces of them

Cooper

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Because the great man is stupidly loyal to certain players. It's annoying when Anderson/Cleverly or whatever perform well against a smaller team, or in a midweek game such as a cup game......

We then all get excited about seeing them do it on a bigger stage, and loe and behold, SAF picks a creaking, achingly slow "but experienced" CM whenever a big team comes along.

One step forward, two steps back.

Guys I haven't seen much of Victo Wanyama, from what I've read he's classed as a defensive midfielder. We've never played a regular DM under SAF, so I'm just wondering is interest in him just a bit over hyped because of his recent performances? I would of thought we need more of a dynamic playmaker or a box to box midfielder. After all we were in the running for Modric over the summer.

Andy!

He was mentioned in the summer one here a few times I think, but I think it's mostly just MOTD fever atm.

Why? Is it only cl, we r going to play after jan?
I guess there will be 16 other pl games nd a few fa cup games will also be there. Ao if he can contribute well in those iant it worth? That can also give rest to some of our players to perform at cl level so twam look more fresh.

I maybe more prudent to buy him in Jan if his performances of late are anything to go buy. We have missed out on quite a few players recently for one reason or another. He would be a welcome addition. Perhaps money plus player and/or loan a youngster or two to sweeten the deal.

You'll Never Walk Alone, was origanally Manchester Uniteds and sung after the Munich Air Disaster. ordinary people and fans came to the ground and sang in respect to those fine footballers and human beings who sadlly lost their lives, however it never caught on. and then jerry and the pacemakers came out and it become the number one, all time greatest hit in the history of music according to 'Certain People'.
I have always thought why we haven't had a true anthem that could be in the music charts as well as the football ground. People will say it is Glory, Glory, but i wouldn't count that. I'll get penning one! A quick fix till i do that, is difficult to think of one, someone cool like the stone roses, oh wait aren't 'simply red' United fans?
