Been reading this site for over an year but first time I have registered and created a post. hello.
I am getting a little confused with Man Utd this season, okay they signed Shaw and Herrera but this were pretty much done before LVG came in and most of the credit can be for Moyles on these transfers (that was hard to say lol)

He has said that he will give all players a chance but this is the same as David Moyes said last year and none of them performed (nani, young, cleverly) so surey if LVG is doing the same we will be another year behind.

The main thing I am confused about is that Ed Woodward said they have money to spend and that all agents they have spoke to their players and werernt concerned about no European football this season. if this is true how come no one is been signed. Where as Chelsea, City say they want a target and the deal is then done (Costa, Fabregas etc).

I just feel United are been left behind again, and if United beat Swansea 3-0 on Saturday I have a bad feeling they will say that he is happy with the squad. sorry rant over - does anyone else have concerns or should I just accept the situation at United?

1.) 12 Aug 2014 10:46:15
We had a decent win against Swansea first game of last season, and people who didn't watch any of the pre season thought it would all be fine, I think with the games we have at the start of the season we can get ourselves in a decent position by January and make a few signings then, but another player or two before September would be nice!

2.) Some good points that you make. The only comment I would make is that LVG has stated that he needs defenders. That we know for definite.
He will know that Utd cannot start a full campaign with 3 Centre Backs.
Especially when all 3 are injury prone.
It looks like know one will be coming in before Saturday but I still reckon there will be at least 3 additions before 1st Sept.

3.) LVG has given them a chance during pre-season, Moyes gave them a chance indefinitely. The reports suggest that Nani, Anderson, Fellaini, Chicharito, Rafael and W. Keane are all up for grabs. There will be incomings in the next two weeks I am sure. Blind I think in the next few days will be the first.

4.) I saw one of the eds possibly 002 mention that the club could be sold off in the next couple of years, so i'm wondering if they're just going to spend the minimum and let the new owners foot the bill for the squad overhaul. maybe they think getting van gaal alone is enough for a champions league spot, which is all they seem to be really bothered about

5.) I think everybody has concerns we're all a little nervous given there's only 3 weeks to go, with what Woodward and Van Gaal have said I think most of us had really high expectations for this summer.

Fur coat no knickers springs to mind, so far Woodward has talked the talk but as yet has failed to back it up. There really isn't a point in judging him until the windows closes though, I'm sure they are trying to get who the manager wants. I'm sure we'll sign players whether or not they are our top targets is another thing.

Woodward has put his neck on the line with the fans by coming out banging his chest saying players want to come and money is basically irrelevant, we can sign who we want! Only time will tell I guess would've been nice to have all our business done before the start but I won't be complaining come September 2nd if we have gotten in a couple more of our top targets! Really excited for the season now regardless of who else we sign Van Gaal, I think will have us playing much better.

Sorry about the long reply hadn't planned on going on a rant.

6.) It's a strange summer, Chelsea have done some good business this summer. Jose spending his hundred's of millions like he usually does. They will be a strong side next season. Arsenal have done some very nice business too, still need to buy a CB. They will do better next season. City were strong anyway and only needed a top CB and cover for Yaya. They now have that. We have made two very good signings, but we need three more. So the jury is still out on us. Spurs have been quiet, but sensible IMO. Liverpool for me have given Brendan Rodgers license to burn money. He's wasting it at a bigger rate than Benitez did. A couple of decent signing in Lallana & Lovren, not special, but decent. A couple potentially good players in Origi & Markovic, but for me they need two top class players and a couple like Lallana and Lovren. I think they have had quite a mediocre summer so far and them being linked to Eto'o it's looking like getting worse. Liverpool fans will always see the positives in their signings, but the fans who can separate their love for the club and their true opinion will not be very impressed this summer. Suarez leaves, their only top notch player and they haven't come close to replacing him and instead BR has done a Benitez by spending vast amounts on ordinary players. I think Liverpool have missed a trick this summer by not using their UCL to attract much better players. I still expect them to be in the mix, but if I am honest I would say they have done the worse business so far bar us who still need three signings.

7.) Sydney, Rodgers is hardly wasting cash, this is probably the best Liverpool squad since the 80's, they battered Spurs, Arsenal, Everton and United with ease last season, their demolishment of Dortmund on the weekend was superb.

Lovren is without a dout the 3rd best centre half in the league, going on last seasons form, Emre Can looks like an absolute bargain buy and Lallana is premier league proven, as is Lambert who will do a good job of the bench and Markovic and Origi have all the potential to go right to the very top.

8.) Ban, if I asked you who was the 3rd best CB in the league 12 months ago today, you wouldn't have picked Lovren in your top ten. But because he is a Liverpool player now of course he was the 3rd best CB last season :)

9.) What has him playing for Liverpool got to do with anything?

last season the 3 top centrebacks in no order we're Kompany, Koscielny and Lovren.
