I know this post may be a little off topic but at what stage do Chelsea enter the Champions League? I feel that it should be the qualifying rounds as that is where the team they replaced would have entered the competition. Eds others any thoughts? Need to break up all of the negative talk coming out lately. Support your team and be happy we are being linked with big names stop crying that we don't sign every player rated at 25m plus. You do realise that saying we are interested adds at least 5 m to their asking price plenty of teams have made up interest to better themselves. Let September 1st come then cry foul ok.
Darren-Bermuda {Ed007's Note - Chelsea go straight into the group stages Darren.}

Question Ed how does that impact the qualifying for the group stages? Because Spurs would have had a spot in the 3rd round or whatever correct? Does the team they would have played get a free pass to the 4th round or do one of the teams that would have had an automatic group spot have to qualify instead? Guess thats what happens when sh!t teams win the Champions League i.e. Liverpool. Thanks eds great site
Darren-Bermuda {Ed007's Note - Thanks Darren. Chelsea go straight into the group stages and Tottenham who would have joined the CL at the Play-Off Round (the next round to be played) were then demoted to the EL. It is all down to coefficients, seedings and the champions/non champions routes how the CL is set up. The teams who benefited from Tottenham's exclusion were Braga and Spartak Moscow who were promoted from the 3rd Qualifying Round to the Play-Off Round.}

Reports out we have placed a bid or are about to of £23.5 million for Witsel, why ? This works out to 30.2 million, Benfica have stated any club interested will need to break the clause in his contract which is 40 million. We will need to bid £31.1 million to get him. So if the reports are true why have we done this ? Nearly £10 million under Benfica's asking price. I hope we do sign him for whatever price is required, before Real Madrid sign him.
Also would like to say Lukaku to West Brom on a season long loan looks like great business to me, being from the West Midlands my local team is West Brom.

Benfica aren't going to come out and say that he's available for £20m are they... just like no club will go straight in and offer the buy out clause, it's the usual run of the mill tactics to maximise the transfer fee. If indeed we are interested I imagine it won't take much more if any than the £23.5m you have suggested.

Well you wouldn't go straight in at the buy out price you will always want to bid lower to test their resolve, also if the player knows about a bid he may push for it.

Or you read the report on CaughtOffsh1te one of the worst rumour site on the internet... Also came originally from "A Bola" the paper that reported Moutinho,Lucas Moura, were both certainties to join the club... forgive me if I am mistaken but neither of those players play for Man Utd...Take the story with a pinch of salt as it isn't going to happen

Di Maria had a £39m buyout clause and he went for £20m. Coentrao went for less than his buyout clause, David Luiz went cheaper. No one will pay £31m for Witsel.

Don't hold your breath for an offer from my company to sell or negotiate. LOL
Sorry for the Cut & Paste, but some posters think they know better than David Gill & Fergie. READ WHAT FOLLOWS:
Negotiation is a dialogue between two or more people or parties, intended to reach an understanding, resolve point of difference, or gain advantage in outcome of dialogue, to produce an agreement upon courses of action, to bargain for individual or collective advantage, to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests of two people/parties involved in negotiation process. Negotiation is a process where each party involved in negotiating tries to gain an advantage for themselves by the end of the process. Negotiation is intended to aim at compromise.

Buyout clause means nothing these days other than 'don't waste our time with your bid'.
I'm not too fussed about Witsel, means Scholes would play less and i don't like the sound of that. Maybe if we get him next season.

David Gill ''SAF clear on RVP interest, We would not make up a story, We are looking to bring a few players in soon''
I like the fact that he said a few, Exciting times ahead hopefully, We lost out on Hazard and Lucas but im not worried, We are Man United, The biggest team in the world, We have lost out on the likes of Ronaldinho, Shearer, Nedved etc in the past but we continued to win trophies.

Surely, if the difference between the price that Wenger wants (£25m) and our reputed offer is "just" £5m, SAF should just pay it - £5m is neither here nor there in the greater scheme of things and RVP could just be the difference that enables us to make 20! We really do need to strengthen the midfield though, but I 'm sure SAF is trying .... Or at least I hope he is!
Believable31
Unbelievable8
Why don't u pay the £5m from your pocket?
Agree2
Disagree0
It is a big difference if u consider u also have to pay him around 200k a week for 4 years. Thats big money for a 29 yr old that get can injured at any time. Also, some reports saying ur second bid was 15million, so u may have to find another 10
Agree0
Disagree1
I wouldn't want us to pay more than £15m. £25m is a ridiculous amount for a 29 year old with a serious injuries problem in his final year of contract.
Sydney!
Agree1
Disagree1
Maybe arsenal wont accept if we make a 'reputed' offer they want a real one. You dont know what we offered so dont know what the difference is.
SAF wont pay £20m + wages for a 29 year old.
Agree1
Disagree0
I would never go over 15 million pounds for RVP considering his age and history of injuries.
Simmo
Agree0
Disagree0
Look at the prices you can get a player for if the player only wants to play for you , alba to barca was a steal because he was only going to barca or nobody , if van Persie says he'll only wants to negotiate with us arsenal haven't got much of a choice but to except our low offer or lose him for free
Dustbin
Agree0
Disagree0
SAF needs to pay whatever it takes to get RVP.Anyone who thinks our goalscoring record last season was good enough is kidding themselves.We needed Vidic back and a goal threat from midfield.Kagawa will help but another top class striker is a must .Besides Rooney the only top class forward we have is Berbatov and either he will still leave or SAF will leave him on the bench till he takes root . His goals to game ratio for us last season was second only to Rooney.Welbeck may be a good bet for the future but he is not a goalscoring bully boy so please get RVP signed and sealed before someone else steps in and we loose out again.
Agree0
Disagree0
Dustbin - RVP is contracted to arsenal so if Wenger wants to play hardball, rvp doesnt have much of a say at all. No chance arsenal will accept 15million just because rvp wants to go there! Rather lose him on a free

How much truth is there in the rumour that we've matched the buy out clause for Witsel? It's been rumoured on twitter (why i've taken it with a pinch of salt) Would love to see him in a united shirt next season, along with RVP and a left back and i think we'd be sorted
Believable23

We would never pay £31m for Witsel so it's nonsense. If we have agreed a fee for Witsel then it will be around £20m I would imagine.

Talks are at an advanced stage for Witsel, he'll be a united player early next week. He's a far better addition to our squad than Moura would have been.

Would love to see kaka rvp and moutinho come in this would give us the calibre of players we need not squad players like witsel he is good but does he make us great kaka is looking back to his best so dont any of you eds say he is past it and compare him to ronaldinho there so far apart in the way they conduct there footballing and private lives imagine a central mid of kaka scoles and moutinho could play with the best and not get turned over like we did last year against the better passing teams has every one forgot how we played in europe we need to retain the ball better not look for a player to chase the ball around the pitch (although moutinho can get about) get us class not mediocrity ps loving valencia at right back {Ed004's Note - I think atm Kagawa is a better player than Kaka. Were do you intend we play Kaka? Ahead of Rooney or Kagawa in the hole/CAM?}
Agree0

I would play kaka with schole in a 4 1 2 1 2 using valencia and evra to get forward down the wings barca play this way and it would work for us also kagawa is class was delighted we got him but he will never be as good as a fit kaka fact look at his stats for last year and the perfomances he is coming back from injurys a former world player of the year to boot kagawa better than kaka ha ha very good but kaka is a legend

Cheers Ed,
Do you know if the earlier Barca rumours were just that or were they serious about checking on his availability?
I would have thought although AP has stated it would take a huge bid to get him that a figure of around £20m would be considered?
If so it seems ludicrous to me that we should not consider him at almost £10m cheaper than Modric.

Guys i know we are all down,unsure and neurotic about seriousness in the transfer market....,but guys i want to assure you that we are very very serious this time and come 31 August we would have signed 5 players i total,mind you we have already signed 2,thus Kagawa who is an excellent signing and Powell whom i think will surprise many as the season progresses,we had reached agreements with Hazard and Moura only for our deals to be highjacked last minute by vultures but im happy that we lost players who werent really committed to move to us unlike Kagawa who had made clear that he only wanted us,just like RVP who has managed to tell Juve and Man City that he wants United move,my close friend and who is always reliable when he comes to Man Utd news has told me that we will bring in 4 players (1) Isco £10m who is a replacement to Lucas whom we lost last minute ....(2) RVP £20m to boost our strikeforce and be Berbatov's replacement who is Russia bound (3)A Central midfielder who could be between Witsel,Modric and Ganso £25m and (4) A left back who can be either Bryan Oviedo (£6m) or Neil Taylor (£8m) or Leighton Baines (£13).........,which TOTAL to £70m
