Got a big surprise yesterday as I was speaking to a United 1st team player who told me that they had all expected Fabregas and Ronaldo to be signed. It seems we were a lot closer than it appears. He seemed genuinely surprised they hadn't signed

Believable21 Unbelievable134

Wow. That is something, especially Ronaldo.

Agree1 Disagree2

Surely next summer is the one for Ronaldo.

Agree0 Disagree3

Even the players were fed with Sh!t.

Im sure the player your are talking about was not anderson/cleverly/valencia/young.

Kloot

What else did Wayne tell you? ;-)

I Understand after RM got knocked out the CL, Mendez and united started discussions on Ronaldo's return. That is why when people post bs here about the club misleading fans and not wanting to spend money, many have no clue. We were also misled on Fabregas so give the club and the new manager some respect.

Amid the euphoria of the early days of this transfer window, and wish lists and talk of a £60m war chest, I came across a speech by Woodward in which he was quoted as saying 'no need for major signings at the club. Maybe a little tinkering around the edges'.

I tried to post his comments but for whatever reason they weren't accepted. It does tend to reinforce those who claim no significant signings were ever going to happen.

Nice to see us turn our attentions to Modric. How many times has he turned us down already?

Agree2 Disagree1

Really?! that surprises me not so much on the Fabregas front but Ronaldo I thought that was an impossible dream.Well at least it seems the club are trying to get the best.
Very strange window this year I don't particularly think any of the big clubs have strengthened that much tbh I know city have got numbers in but they are not exactly fantastic players and Chelsea have bought squad players imo.

I was talking to a Spurs coach Saturday night and they were all expecting Bale to leave, but that the rumour was he was going to Madrid to replace Cristiano. The feeling around Spurs was that Madrid's recent "cooling" statements about the Bale transfer are as much about United's negotiation for Cristiano having broken down as they are about playing hardball over price. He also said he didn't think United's Cristiano negotiations were completely dead.

He also said he'd been told that Arsenal had been told by Fabregas' representatives that he had no interest in returning to the Emirates when they enquired.

I did ask him whether Spurs would take Ashley Young off our hands and he just laughed at me.

Agree1 Disagree1

I had a conversation with John o'shea in Ibiza one summer when he was still a red and he told me we were going to get ribery. u know the rest.

I hear we are after Modric now.

Makes you think what our scouts are doing, probably watching a website identifying players.

Of all the quality players that are out there, once again we go after someone that even my 10 year old would know.

Believable45 Unbelievable35

So Manchester United one of the best clubs in the world, goes after one of the well known players and what exactly is wrong with that?

REDFAITH

Agree1 Disagree1

He's a good CM, proven in the league and in Europe to an extent. I'd quite like to see us sign him. Wouldn't have minded strootman either

Agree1 Disagree0

In a summer where thiago, isco, van ginkel, strootman etc have all been available we waste over a month on fabergas who is not available. If we had been serious about fabergas why did we not buy him at the start of the window before thiago moved to bayern. If we had tried then, maybe Barcelona would have let him leave.

The way this summer is going, we are likely to lose one of our most gifted, hardest working and marketable players and get very little in return. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Agree9 Disagree1

Agree 100%

Agree1 Disagree0

REDFAITH there is nothing wrong with going after a well known player the problem comes when you go for a well known player that you have no chance of getting i.e. Modric so we waste another 3 weeks going for him and guess what we sign no one

Cue Kloot saying "Oh did I not say we would do exactly this and not buy a decent midfielder"

Agree0 Disagree1

Why is there no chance of Modric Pardoe?

Agree1 Disagree0

He doesn't want to come plus Real don't want to sell him or maybe its just Ancellotti

Agree0 Disagree0

Well you covered all bases there Pardoe lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said modric and bale a few weeks back. I stand by this as what we need to be where we should be, this season.

Modric straight buy. Bale cash plus player(s).

The money is there, the interest is there, Mr Woodward, pull your finger out and broker these deals and earn you salary.

Oh and give Adnan a new bumper deal, NOW!

Agree0 Disagree3

After failing with a modric bid, we will turn our attention to david silva and sergio aguero. Two of the leagues most established players, and the worlds least likely team sell to us, thus guaranteeing the transfer window closes before any deals reach "advanced" stages.
yawn.

We've stepped up our interest in Modric. No idea if it will happen at this point as very early stages. Hopefully it comes off. United's very open pursuit of Fabregas was bizarre. Similar to Sneijder 2/3 years ago. Player was interested I'm told but Barcelona managed to change his mind, they never wanted to sell anyway unless the money was too good to be true. Apparently Everton are playing hard ball with us Re: Fellaini. They expect us to go for Baines again as well and they're reluctant to lose both plus there's some issue with Moyes/United and the Everton board about the way in which Moyes was recruited by United. United have played they're hand(s) rather poorly thus far in the transfer market. Woodward isn't quite in the same league as Gill was, expect things to happen more openly than they used too. Fabregas and Thiago are prime examples. United are furious with Paul Stretford (Rooney's agent) he's trying to engineer the move to Chelsea by blabbing to the papers every other day. He knows this is pretty much the last season for one more big move for Wayne so he's moving heaven and earth to make it happen. Also a quick thank you to Rio Ferdinand for his service to the club, the best defender to play for United in the last 11/12 years. World Class.

Ed woodward is the guy who has engineered all the sponsorship deals equating near to half a BILLION £! If anything he's above gill in terms of contract talks! Gill fail in moves for Moura, Wesley S and hazard?

Have faith Ghost.

Agree2 Disagree1

That awkward moment when you instinctively hit the unbelievable button simply because you don't think united will get a quality signing this summer :(

Agree5 Disagree1

I for one agree with that post ten folds.

Modric would be next on my list, I like the player.

Its true about Woodward not being in the same league as gill, which is worrying.

But optimistically I have a lot of faith in Januzaj and Zaha,

But would you not agree ghost that even if they proved success's we would need some 'marquee' signings next season, especially if we fail retain the title?

Modric, Fellaini/Kondogbia, Baines would be fantastic business this season, I just can't work out why we Moyes hasn't brought in Fellaini and Baines prior to the pre season, to integrate them?

i don't think the evertonians are targets.

Cban

Agree1 Disagree0

That nothing everyone didn't know.

Agree1 Disagree0

How would any of us know how good or bad Woodward is. or even how good Gillw as - unless your a United board member you really have no concept of how these guys work etc so leave the 'Woodward isn't in the same league' stuff with the 'Moyes out' brigade

Agree0 Disagree0

Rubbish post. And vidic has been the best defender we have bad!

Agree0 Disagree1

Vidic

Andyred

Agree0 Disagree2

Though Vidic is great there was a period of about five years where Rio was the best centre half in the world, let alone at United.

The inevitable Modric rumours start as expected. Yes he would be great, alongside a more defensive minded MF, which is the priority but the problem is he has already made it clear he is not interested in leaving Real and why would he after just one season.

We are desperate for a huge name signing to help the faltering share price in the wake of Fergie's retirement but there just isn't anyone in that bracket who's available and willing to join. Need to go for more realistic options ASAP.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry disagree. For me Rio Ferdinand is the best defender to have player for United over the last ten years. For over half of that ten years he was the best defender in the world! Woodward is amazing at sponsorship deals I don't dispute that but signing players isn't his forte. Expect player signings to take longer is all I say

OT Ghost

Agree0 Disagree0

Telling the world we'd spend £60-£70m on a single player was a big mistake by Woodward. Why would you say that. Makes the selling club(s) up their valuations of players United might be after. Gill wouldn't have said such a thing because he knew clubs already upped their valuations of players United were after as their Manchester United and make a fortune.
