I genuinely do know that these are targets, i am not saying that they will join. Yes sneijder signed a new deal but didn't he also come out and express a desrire to play for United?!?! I happen to agree with you about Suarez but can't do anything about it - would rather Torres to be honest but that aint on the cards.

well if sneijders still a target then i could say sweinsteigers still a target. . . . .

Oh look - i said this weeks ago, he was never a target for us. People need to listen to me.
Sneijder, Sanchez and Suarez are the big targets plus a GK. Dont get out your pram Sydney, there are others yes but these are the primary targets.

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea has opened the door to talks with Manchester United in the summer.

De Gea, 20, has been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford as Sir Alex Ferguson seeks to identify Edwin van der Sar's successor.

A deal to sign 26-year-old Denmark international Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds was completed last month, but he is thought more likely to have been brought in as back-up.

Ferguson has seen De Gea in action during a scouting trip to Spain and, while it is believed he would cost around £15 million, he may still represent the kind of 'value' United prize so highly.

"I know Sir Alex Ferguson has already looked at me, " De Gea said. "My contract runs until mid-2013. After this season, we should look at what happens. Whoever wants to talk can come and talk.

"I owe Atletico everything and I would love to stay here but, on the other hand, Manchester United are a great club."

On Van der Sar, De Gea said: "Edwin's style appeals to me. I've tried to make it my own."

Atletico have apparently offered De Gea a lucrative new contract but it appears he is yet to decide on his future.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I don't know about everyone else, but I think De Gea knows something is up. Guillem Balague from Revista de la Liga claimed that United had activated the buyout clause a few weeks ago.
It's looking likely at the minute. Fingers crossed!
Editor, does this change your opinion on whether De Gea will be a United player this time next year?

{Editor's Note: Probably a different Editor, but I personally do not expect De Gea to be joining the club during 2011.}

Seems Schweini won't be joining us. and I must say Bayerns team look highly impressive at the moment.

Also seems like our interest in Defour has cooled. and so Im thinking SAF is looking to sign De Rossi - long term target and a genuinely class act who can play at the top for at least 5-6 years i think! That, and Ganso along with an inform Anderson and Pogba getting his chances should keep the CM department ticking over nicely for a while. (since we will also have Fletch and Park who I think will be used more centrally)

Am not sure of anything but I get the feeling that Kuszczak, Owen, Obertan, Diouf, Brown, Gibson and possibly Carrick will all be sold/released to raise somewhere in the range of 20-30M (since we would not get all the money for Diouf and Obertan at least). That, along with the wagebill reduction (also considering VDS, Neville and possibly Scholes and Giggs are retiring) should mean getting De Rossi, Ganso and another keeper as well as renewing a few contracts should not be an issue. Who knows, we might get Sanchez/Marin as well?

PS - Cleverly and Welbeck are definitely long-term first XI material.

"Sweinsteiger has just signed a new contract with Bayern to 2016 check out their website"

@It was probable, if he was ever going to leave then i think Real Madrid would have got him. we were an outside chance although we stood a far better chance than Chelsea.

Well done Schweinsteiger, good to show loyalty and Bayern will reward you generously.

I have a feeling Bayern are going to be a great European team for the next few years, if they can keep everyone fit. I hope we avoid them. What do you think Ed?

{Editor's Note: You know what I think - I said he would sign a new contract at Bayern Munich or go to Real Madrid. This is not a surprise.}

Hey ed any truth in the goal.com story of scweinsteiger holding talks with united they aint the best source in the world, But if it was true it would have also been on sky spoorts news right? and also do you think now that carlo has money to spend in januray that they may make a move for the player too? {ed's note - I don't think so, though SSN would run the rumour if it would stir up the betting market. Extremely unlikely that Chelsea will move for him.}

@Don't worry about Chelsea mate, they have an 80k a week salary cap on stellar signings, Schweinsteiger would be a stellar signing and he is already on 100k at Bayern Munich and they are willing to pay him 140k a week, they also have a better tax rate than us so he could get a maximum 40k a week after tax if he joined Chelsea or he could get 77k a week after tax if he stayed in Germany.

So you can safely say Chelsea have NO chance in signing him. United can pay him 140k a week which means he would take home 70k a week after tax. Real Madrid could also pay him 140k a week, he would receive 79k a week after tax. If United want him then it will be three way fight between United, Real & Bayern Munich.

Editor, what do you think about this piece from Goal.com regarding Schweinsteiger? Its was Goal.com who leaked the secret meetings between Lindegaard and United, i know they are not the best source in the world but they do go as far as to saying that United executives have met with Schweinsteiger's representatives.

{Editor's Note: I expect Bastian Schweinsteiger to either move to Spain or to sign a new contract at Bayern.}

Is it all a load of tosh or is there something in it?

MANCHESTER UNITED HOLD TALKS OVER SENSATIONAL £18m MOVE FOR BAYERN MUNICH SATR BASTIAN SCHWEINSTEIGER!

Manchester United have opened talks over an £18 million move for Bayern Munich star Bastian Schweinsteiger after club officials flew out to Germany, Goal.com UK can reveal.

United executives held talks with Schweinsteiger's representatives in Munich on Thursday and were still in the German city on Friday as they look to beat Chelsea and Real Madrid to his signature next summer.

Schweinsteiger's contract at Bayern Munich expires in June 2012 and speculation has intensified over his future as he has so far rejected the German club's attempts to persuade him to sign a new contract.

United have indicated that they are willing to match Bayern's offer of £140,000-a-week in wages over a five-year contract, and Goal.com UK understands Schweinsteiger has indicated he is keen to take on a new challenge away from the Bundesliga.

A January deal has even been mooted in some quarters but Bayern are determined to do everything they can to convince Schweinsteiger to sign a new contract and will not entertain selling him until the summer. The Bavarian club have offered him a huge increase on his current £100,000-a-week deal and are ready to make him the highest paid player at the club.

Bayern president Uli Hoeness has said it is "incredibly important" for the club to keep the central midfielder but he could now be set for Old Trafford after holding secret talks with United officials at a Munich hotel.

Sir Alex Ferguson was not present at the clandestine meetings but the United manager has made the Germany World Cup star his number one transfer target as he looks to rebuild his squad next summer with a £50m transfer kitty.

The relationship between the two clubs is already frosty from the £17m deal that took Owen Hargreaves to United from the German club in the summer of 2007.

They could be heading for another clash as United look set to poach Schweinsteiger, who has spent his whole career at Bayern and, according to some reports, was close to signing a new deal with the Bavarian giants.

United were beaten to the signing of Mesut Oezil by Real Madrid last summer but are determined to land Schweinsteiger, who would cost a cut-price £18m next summer as Bayern would want to recoup some sort of transfer fee.

Ferguson has identified Schweinsteiger ‚Äě known for his creative passing and drive ‚Äě as the natural successor to Paul Scholes, who is 36 and closing in on retirement.

The German midfielder recently revealed that his brother constantly asks him to consider a move to United, and he could now be ready to leave Germany, where Bayern currently lie seventh in the league.

Defender Philipp Lahm, midfielder Franck Ribery and forward Thomas Mueller have all recently signed new deals to keep them at the Allianz Arena, but FC Hollywood now look set to lose Schweinsteiger.
