Rojo has handed in a transfer request and has told SP that he wants to join MU. I guess that's that then. I have to be honest, I prefer him to Vermaelen who is injured more often than not. Will need a top central CB though, someone like Hummels or Benatia.
What do you think Syd, is he instead of Blind or might LVG want both?

Blind and rojo?
I wouldn't be surprised
Think Blind can cover a myriad of positions so I would imagine he would be the signing to come in along Vidal(hopefully) to cover DCM, CB etc.
I found the Badstuber post interesting earlier on dependent on his fitness I think he is a great player(or I might just be excited its a different name;) and there is good history between the manager and the player.
Medhi Benatia is a fantastic player but very expensive and as disappointing as it may be I still think the club is working to a reasonably tight budget.
A Vidal/Khedira/Gustavo type and a Badstuber/Hummels/Benatia would complete a very successful window along with the players we already signed and Rojo and Blind we would be right up there not far from favourites IMO.
Great move and I am delighted that it looks like it is going through. I have liked him ever since the WC and thought he was very impressive throughout. At 6'4 he is a big lad who is excellent on the ball and has the versatility to play left back. If we are playing three at the back I think it is crucial that the right center back and left center back are comfortable when going towards the line. Rojo is comfortable at doing that as the left center back and Smalling / Jones can do that on the right. A central sweeper center back would be nice but now the priority must be a central midfielder.
I'd also say that this will likely end our interest in Blind unless he is earmarked as left wing back back up or defensive midfielder.
I reckon that's it for CB to be honest. We may buy Blind though who can fill in there.
Id guess itll be both blind and rojo, get them both for what hummels would cost and less competition for them.
The £15.8m being suggested is much better value than TV would have been.
Would love to see hummels come in but I don't see that happening at all, same with benatia.
Hate to say it Syd!, but I think this is our top centre back!, I really can't see Hummels leaving and apparently Chelsea are upping their interest in Benatia, hope this isn't another desperation buy!
Rojo plays as a CB or LB, Blind plays as a CB, LB or CDM.
Not sure that LVG will sign Blind in addition to Rojo as they cover the a lot of the same positions.
if Rojo signs presume he will play as the left side CB in the 3-5-2 formation.
If we get Rojo and a CM I would be content for now.
Ive heard of him and watched him in some of the world cup games but how good is he? would he be a starter of back up? any input would be much appreciated.
He may still go for Blind as another midfield option. He is a defensive midfielder so could play the De Jong role instead of us signing De Jong. He is 24 and very versatile so I wouldn't rule him out completely.
I don't think Hummels will come in. Klopp does not make decisions based on financial benefits. Saw that with lewandowski. Unless there is a release clause can't see them selling Hummels.
Great business by United in the sense that until Rojo started following all and sundry on instagram no one even picked him as a target. Probably to stop other clubs going in for him. Expensive understudy though if he's just competition for Luke Shaw!
He will be brought to play as one of the defensive 3, just a bonus he can cover LB. LVG loves he players that can play more than one position.
Cant rojo also play are a right back? sure iv seen him play there a few times?
Rojo can play anywhere along the back line. But he will be used as a centre back for sure.
Charla, MU will not go into the season with just Rojo, Smalling, Jones & Evans as the CB's. Rojo is an alternative to Vermaelen, not Hummels/Benatia. We will still need that leader at the center of the defensive three. Rojo will play on the left-side of the three.
Time will tell m8, hope you're right, need that bit of experience in there, also have to factor in that our current CB's are not exactly ever-presents, all 3 seem unlucky with injuries, so while I don't share your optimism I'll be more than happy if things develop on that front, fingers crossed!
Couldn't agree more Charla. I am sure the club will want experience in there, but it could go pear shaped.
No one has mentioned in all of the above comments yet, what about luke shaw? he is our future left back, rojo is a left back granted he can play cb
Rojo if signed, will play part of the defensive three. 6 foot 4 and will cover LB if needed.

Badstuber of bayern, watch this space
Would make sense.
Great shout (if you are right) - a player that I really do like.
Certainly would make sense. Does anybody know how he is getting on with fitness/injuries at the moment? Seems to have had issues with this.
I'm still watching ed Woodward space
He and LVG have a great relationship (it was LVG that promoted him to the first team) and LVG once called him the best left-footed defender in Germany. He's been out for a hell of a long while after suffering repetitive ACL injuries though.

I still watching the space woody told us about 3 weeks ago
Woody has been located in Hollywood with Chuck Norris filming Missing in Action 4.
I'm sure he has better things to do than read a Man Utd forum. Like continue his comeback from injury.
So I doubt very much that he'll be watching this space. lol
Shappy is bang on the money - he's going nowhere.

News coming out of Portugal this morning is that Manchester United have made a bid of €20m for Sporting Lisbon's Marcos Rojo. It's headline news for Portugal's leading newspapers. Sporting Lisbon want all the money upfront, while Manchester United want to pay €12m now and €8m later.
This could be paper talk but he would solve one of the centre back positions.
Interesting that it says that United do not want to pay the full amount up front because you get the feeling that this is the way thay Woodward does his negotiating.
Woodward said we had £200m to spend and now he's trying to shave off £8m on a deal for a defender which is one of the key positions we need!
The season starts in 4 days and we are still waiting on a Centre Back, Defensive Midfielder & Winger. yet we have money to burn according Eddie boy! Yeah right!
4th/5th place next season with this squad.
Really makes sense to buy ANOTHER left sided player.
Simmo, he can play as the left CB and can also fill in at LB. Sort of Evans' current job in the side.
He followed a load of Man Utd players last week on Instagram, reports of a bid today. This one could have some legs. He's a CB who can fill in at LB, tenacious and a good passer. My thought is he would work well in the three man defence, let's not forget that LVG seems to get the best out of players. Just look at the way Young is playing.
Stu
Stu, what I liked about him at the WC was his speed. Didn't realise he was 6ft 4" tall. That's some pace for a lad that tall. I thought he was a bit like Buettner at the WC. Good going forward, but rusty at the back. If he can be moulded into a top CB (of three), then £15.9m is buttons in today's market. Wages will be very low to, probably not as low as Carvalho's One Grand a week mind.
Agreed Sydney, I'd be happy with him and Blind as defensive reinforcements. Let's be far, Hummel's isn't going to happen.
Stu, according to the editor we are now looking at Benatia as an alternative to Hummels. Rojo as an alternative to Vermaelen is what we know from today.
Will be pretty happy if we signed him to be honest, was impressed with how aggressive he was in the WC we need more players that don't mess about. Could really do with a left footed CB too but what does this mean for Blackett who I think was the stand out youth player in pre season?
Hey Sydney, reports are popping up that Rojo has handed a transfer request in and wants the Man Utd move. A solid 6 footer will do just fine, as you said not expensive. LVG said he will only sign players who can play his system, maybe this week is when the signings come in. I'd like the others to be Blind, De Jong, Di Maria and Vidal.
Stu, to be fair we don't need Blind and De Jong. Blind is a defensive midfielder.
Sydney, is Blind not versatile in LB, CB and DMC? If we do go for De Jong. Surely he would be our bit of steel in midfield. Blind would be perfect cover in three positions.
