If the daily mail is to be believed, modric is looking for a move in the summer. I think he will be a good addition providing we can get a strong midfielder too in the mould of strootman or wanyama.
Hope we can finally strengthen midfield. I'm sure saf will do that.

Do we really need 2 cm's though?

Carrick and Cleverly are both pretty good, but we don't have any wingers who are good enough, unless Nani suddenly develops the consistency he has been lacking since he came to utd. Zaha is promising and will be good to have in the squad, but not a first choice starter.

Given that we don't have unlimited funds, I would expect at least one winger as a priority, hopefully two, along with one cm signing.

Having said that, Modric is effective out wide too, so he could potentially be signed to play both roles, playing wide some games and in the centre or even in the hole, other games depending on opposition and who else is available.

Carrick is the one top notch central midfielder we have. Anderson is far to injury prone, lacks stamina and has fitness issues in general. Cleverley will never be better than a squad player, he just isn't up to top European standars. He is full of energy, but is only an average passer, lacks pace and imagination. At nearly 24 he no longer is a kid. Kagawa is more effective in the hole and has yet to fully convince. Scholes should retire and Giggsy is pnly good for a game every 10 - 15 days and is only going to be playing for one more season. So I would say we are in need of two midfielders. We have never replaced the likes of Scholes and Keane. e Wanyama and Erikson/Gotze would raise us to ECL winners I'm sure. As for wingers Nani for all his inconsistany is a top player - sometimes. Danny W is far more effective out wide, with his lightening pace and surely Valencia can't be as bad this season as last. I do think Zaha has every chance of being good. We should sell Young though, he just isn't United class. At the moment our real weakness is our central midfield, I would prefer someone younger than Modric though to accompany a powerful athletic midfielder like Wanyama.

Before signing anymore midfield we definitely need to sell some one to make space, probably anderson otherwise we'll have to many midfield players

Agree1 Disagree0

Will you change your name if such changes occur, saying that I don't think we will acquire 2 midfielders

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree bout Cleverly, while I don't see him ever being "world class" I think he is a very good player, and I think he will be an important player for us over the next few years. Like I said though, I do expect us to sign a central midfielder this summer.

I agree that Nani can be great, but unless he suddenly develops a bit of consistency, it's not often enough, and most gamed he is poor. Believe me, I would love to see him start performing more often.

Valencia is, in my opinion, too one dimensional, teams have figured out that all they have to do is stop him racing down the flank and putting in a cross.

In short, we need a winger at least as much as a cm, probably more.

Modric would be a bonus, he isn't needed at United like Strootman is

Ed002, I know you said a couple of days ago that Modric will probably be available in the summer, but you do not know of any recent interest from United. I imagine nothing has changed in the space of two days, but over the past two days there have been a lot of Modric stories. Is there anything new on this subject? United still haven't replaced Scholes and were interested in Mods last season so do you think they could become interested once more or are there different targets now? Thanks.

A move would be easier now there is no Levy involved surely.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - There is nothing new I am aware of Syd.}

It would be a wonderful move if we could get him for the orginial price of £25 million that we wanted to pay for him. For the expense of not having him for a year, the £8 million saving would be great.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been a huge fan of Modric for a few years and always wanted us to sign him before his move to Spain. I'm far from convinced we'll even be in for him but if we did get him plus Strootman, say, our midfield would be sorted once and for all! Carrick & Modric first choice, Strootman & Cleverly 2nd choice, with Powell and others getting more games too.

Ed2 mentioned a possible swap with Spurs for Bale but personally I find it hard to imagine Levy sanctioning his wages to match what he earns at Real (unless he finds a creative way around it).

Here's to hoping anyway!

I think most sources have just regurgitated the article from the daily mail.

Not convinced with Modric. Patently didn't want to sign for us in the summer. Why bail him out of him being a bit part player at Real. A star at Tottenham but perhaps prefers to be a big fish in a small pond. If he's not good enough for Real why should he be good enough for United?

Halesini (just waiting for the WTF reaction lol)

Agree0 Disagree0

WTF halsini :-) Real Madrid have khedira, oezil, ronaldo, alonso, essien and callejon oh and kaka we clearly do not have midfield options as good as these!

Snakey {Ed002's Note - At least two (and if another club has its way three) of these players will leave in the summer and Essien is only on loan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Most likely Callehon and Alonso Ed? Or is Modric more likely to be in there? Levy, Modric agent and Zagreb were pushing Madrid. Now that Zagreb have got their sell on fee, Levy is out of the picture and Mamic can be more objective, perhaps he will come to us. Couls also go to Chelsea though as that would mean he could go back to living in London.

Dan {Ed002's Note - I have already explained what deal will be offered with Modric. There is interest in Oezil and Alonso as well. None of this includes Manchester United.}

Seems as though the Modric rumour is picking up speed (again). I think that SAF will still be interested in him, he is the ideal player for our midfield, we need that talented and tricky player. Alongside Carrick or Strootman - he'd be perfect.

Ed002, is there any interest in Hernandez or Welbeck you know of? {Ed002's Note - Yes, Atletico Madrid has an interest in Hernandez.}

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Any idea if United would entertain the idea of selling him then? Would fit in with Lewandowski possibly coming in.

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I would think it possible.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Only way we should let Hernandez go is if we can get falcao in return. I would rather we sold Rooney, valencia, Anderson, macheda and raised cash to add to our transfer pot and then buy cr7, falcao and modric or wanyama.
That might give us a chance in Europe next year.
