{Ed001's Note - unless something goes wrong with his medical, it seems so. Odd when United were not going to let any midfielders go as Pogba and Morrison are almost certainly out the door. Suggests to me they are bringing someone in.

Ed001 do u think it that simple that Morrison and pogba are both out the door? U usually say take no notice to the red tops!
Djay {Ed001's Note - it's never that simple, they could beg to stay and be forgiven, there could be an injury crisis and they are the only fit players at the club etc. But both are being offered to any club that wants them, so the chances are they will be gone.}

Believable1 Unbelievable5

I have tried to look further down the page but can't find it, so could someone clarify what Ed001 means by saying "it seems so"?

Rudderpost {Ed001's Note - that was a post taken from Everton about Darron Gibson from yesterday I think.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Ed001, so are you saying in your opinion, or from your sources that both Morrison and Pogba will be sold in this transfer window?

Enigma {Ed001's Note - Morrison yes, Pogba is unlikely to go in January.}

Agree3 Disagree0

Can I ask how you know this Ed001? I know Morrison seems like abit of a you know what but Pogba looks to be a decent lad with alot of talent.. I think his agent is just waffling in his ear so he gets the best deal possible, surely a 5k increase in Pogba's wages offered wouldnt affect the wage structure too badly.. He is one of the brightest prospects in our youth system IMO

Cooper {Ed001's Note - you can ask but I can't really say much more than it comes from within United's ranks. Pogba wants to play, it is not all about the money to him, he wants to feel like he has a future of regular football to look forward to.}

Agree6 Disagree2

Ed001, thanks for the update, so in a hypothetical world where Pogba is given guarantees about him being given reasonable playing time next season do you think he would still leave? Or if he was given a few opportunities towards the end of this season.

Also personally I think Morrison leaving could be a big regret for everyone associated with our club. I hopeand pray.

Enigma

Enigma {Ed001's Note - I believe Pogba would stay if he thinks he will get his chance. I am not sure bringing Scholes out of retirement sent out the right message though!}

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed001 if its the case that pogba wants to play any idea why is saf not giving him game time
Onecut {Ed001's Note - you would have to ask Fergie that question, because to me I don't see how it could be a bad thing to give him chances. Only Fergie knows that, it could be simply that he is not judged ready for the first team.}

Agree2 Disagree0

I think the most frustrating thing is that Pogba is a clear talent and someone who could become a star at United. SAF is no idiot so why isn't Pogba being reassured first team appearances if he really is this good. Something doesn't quite add up. On another note, does any Ed have any knowledge whether we may bid for Shaqiri or is it a load of nonsense?

Cheers
Rudderpost {Ed001's Note - there is a very strong interest in Shaqiri, though I have not heard of any bid going in yet. If someone else moves for him, I expect United will throw their hat in the ring though.}

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeah I dont blame Pogba for wanting a first team spot, if you look at the state of our midfield and he's not getting his chance.. I think he may of come on against Blackburn if we didn't concede. I'd select him over Anderson, Park and Giggs easily.
Cooper

Agree4 Disagree5

Hey Ed,

I actually believe Pogba moved up two spots in the pecking order for a CM spot over the last couple of weeks, even when Scholes came back.

We lost Fletcher and Gibson, and I always felt Morrison was in front of him as well, just because he was a local boy.
He also has to see that Scholes won't be here for long, and the rest of our CM, apart from Cleverly, is far from certain to stay for the next couple of years (Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Park).
Can't believe he doesn't see the Pogba-shaped hole in the middle of the park

Agree5 Disagree2

On top of the pecking order.
I am really afraid that both Morrison and Pogba are starring SAF in the eye.
and everyone involved waits for the other to blink.
Regarding Pogba: I think the outcome would be the same whether SAF swallows his pride for once and involves Pogba, or whether Pogba signs the extension first.
Both cases he would get a lot more chances from now on in.
In Morrison's case I am afraid SAF will want him to apologize for whatever he did to incur SAFs wrath.

What about Morrison's contract? 2012 or 2014?
If it runs through, I say let him sit in the reserves and watch Pogba breakthrough, might straighten him out.
Or is he really that bad an influence on everyone else at Carrington?

Jonny8

Agree0 Disagree2

ED001 But people on this page Have been saying that Morrison is the next big thing the future of Man United,I think even you said you rate him the academy player in the country! And now he is supposedly leaving? Where do you think he may end up ED? {Ed001's Note - I really don't know what will happen to him, he will need to find a manager willing to take a chance on him. I am not so sure he will find any in the Prem, not with his attitude to training.}

Agree2 Disagree0

All i can say to this is if pogba and morrison were worthy of a first team spot they would have it SAF has never been afraid to play youngsters infact at aberdeen his moto was if they are good enough they are old enough so you can take it to the bank if they dont play they aint all that

Agree4 Disagree1

Paul Scholes..

Scholes stunned football last weekend when he came out of retirement in time to feature against Manchester City in the FA Cup third round. In 30 minutes on the field as a second-half substitute, he managed a pass completion rate of 97 per cent and made a higher number of accurate passes - 71 - than any opposition player during the entire game.

This is why we brought him back.
I'm sure both youngsters understand that his incredible talent is very much needed at the moment and if Paul gets game time ahead of them they'll understand why.
Not much else to say i just wanted to share this information with you.. put a smile on my face when i read it!

Ozwald

Agree0 Disagree2

You failed to include the bit where he was directly responsible for City's second goal which put unnecessary pressure on the whole team for a large portion of the second half.

Danny Pughnited

Agree1 Disagree4

Scholes has still got more passing ability than anyone other the Clevs in our squad and ok he gave the bal away however Lindergaard should of held the intial shot as well. We were poor giving them too much time and space and beleiving we had already won the game.

Not sure who though..
But definitely there will be atleast one signing this window with Berbatov going the other way.

Hi Guys
Apparently the Wesley Sneider rumours are surfacing again.I wonder whether that has got anything to do with Inter wanting Tevez and having to find funds to pay for him.WS is a great player but I wish he'd make his mind up one way or the other it is getting abit tedious now

Bazza The Red {Ed007's Note - Tedious isn't the word Bazza!!!}

I see Wesley Sneijder's odds to join United this month have been slashed to 2/1 and 5/4 with some bookmakers...... here we go again guys!! lol

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Sneijder was odds on for a large part of last summer, getting as low as 1/8 on, theres been odds of 3/6 already this window, so this really doesn't mean much.

Rio has just tweeted to Ravel that the rumours people are suggesting about him are rubbish (he has stated what the rumour is but I won't as it doesn't matter and everyone probably knows anyway!) and finished with "see you at training on Monday #stayfocused"

Whose believing all these Shaqiri rumours? On first value it doesn't make sense as we don't need another winger. But look at it realistically, Giggs is no winger anymore and Park will be done soon. Cleverly can play wide but he's better in the middle. So that leaves us with three, Young, Nani and Valencia - Young i the poorest out of the two i think.

Historically our wingers have been the creative spark i.e. Giggs, Beckham, Ronaldo etc... So realistically, Shaqiri would be a good signing given Fergie's tendancy to play with wide players.

RedDevil19

Believable17 Unbelievable4

Shaqiri is strong enough and fast enough to play CM in my opinion.

DB-Red

Agree2 Disagree1

I disagree that Young is the poorest, as I personally feel Nani is. Ok he does score some cracking goals, but rarely plays well against good teams, wont work back, scared of challanges and has 1 good game every 6/7 not consistant enough, I would rather Valencia and Young on either flank and sell Nani to bring in Hazard or Shaqiri, (not sure on spelling).

Lyon have confirmed they are ready to sell defender Aly Cissokho - got to worth a look at for a bid don't we think?

Believable12 Unbelievable3

Good idea actually - need a leftback. Always thought Cissokho was decent - could be moulded into a better defensive version of Evra. Has all the skills to be top quality.

not sure how true this is havnt seen it on anyweb site but bayern munich have surposidly tabled a 12m bid for berbatov. surposidly because of leverkusun have inquired sometime before jan about his avalibility! again not sure how true it is. i not sure if id want him to go as i dont think hed be replaced by anyone by fergie that being any position. let him go in summer is best option. anyone heard anything sydney?

Believable5 Unbelievable6

If Bayern offered us £12 million for Berbatov, we should snap their hand off. Our only chance to make money back on him is now. Although I'm sure I heard something about us offering him a contract extension soon Ed or Syd! would know more I would have thought?

United Till I Die 1987 {Ed007's Note - There is an optional one year extension attached to his contract.}

Agree9 Disagree0

Ed002 normally comes to the rescue. im sure he/she/it would know.? {Ed002's Note - We know that Bayer Leverkusen, PSG, Bayern Munich, Fenerbahce and CSKA Moscow may have varying degrees of interest in Berbatov and I suspect any offer to be perhaps 6-8M euros. I also understand that he would need to agree any extension.}

Agree5 Disagree1

If we could get 12mill back, which I doubt i'll drive him there myself. Dont get me wrong he is not a bad player just not a United stye of player. Lets be honest he has only got 6 months left is 30+ so chances are we would only get around 4-5mill for him. ie look at Cahill 24 and England International he is going for 7m? so no chance of 12 for Berba. We have a fair bit of deadwood at the minute including Berba, Diouf, Owen, Kuszak, Bebe, De Laet, Gibson (Although he has now on his way to toffess. So get rid of these and create to squad places and look at who might be available. I personally like Junior Hoilett only 22 and contract expiring in summer could be a bargain.

Agree0 Disagree0

United will not accept anything less than £10m IMO mate. Reason being is his asset value is around £6m. Perhaps even £8m because the club would save £2m in wages between now and June. Ed002, do players get a loyalty bonus if they see out their contract? Also I think for £5m-£7m teams like Sunderland, Newcastle, Villa & perhaps even Stoke would take a look at him? I know his wages would be around £80k a week, but I am not sure that is a big deal when spending £5m on a player of his quality. I think United may stick with him rather than sell him for a silly amount. If he was on £150k a week and not scoring then offload, but if he is scoring and only on £4m a year in wages then keep him for another 18 months.

Sydney! {Ed002's Note - Bonuses are generally tied to end of seasons rather than end of contracts. Any player requesting a move will likely invoke a clause that sees bonuses withdrawn and they also lose their 5% cut of the transfer fee.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice to see the person that told me was actually right about this deal

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2012 13:34:40
Bit confused this morning with several issues so if anyone can answer any of my questions, that would be greatly appreciated.

1. Bluntly, why could Newcastle afford Morrison's demands but not us?

2. Quotes about Shaqiri seem to be true but are MUFC in for him or is this just about upping his transfer fee. Surely he would not be filling his potential in Galatasary?

3. Pogba isn't playing in the reserves today, perhaps he will be in the squad for tomorrow with Carrick possibly having to play at CB?

Rudderpost

Believable14 Unbelievable0

1. It's not about affording, it's about keeping a wage structure in place. We won't be held to ransom by a player with 3 first team appearances. If he had a brain he'll realise if he signed a contract and broke into the first team (which he more than likely would), within a year or two he'd be offered a new contract which would be worth substantially more than what he'd earn at Newcastle,

2. I highly doubt he'll go to Galatasary. A lot of big clubs have watched him and you'd expect him to go to one of the top clubs in Europe. With Galatasary making a move it may prompt other clubs into action.

3. He's been on the bench for the last 3 PL games so I expect him to be again. With Anderson doubtful and Gibson gone this may finally be his chance to get a game.

Id like to see pogab carrick and anserson as a midfield 3.

Agree5 Disagree9

Carrick and Anderson go missing when teams put us under pressure (nearly every game)

Anderson is a donkey and carrick only passes sideways hes nearly as boring as barry. we need to sign some creative players such as rivaldo and nedved to play with our veteran midfielders giggs and scholes.

surely with all the departures we have enough money (in wages) to buy a top player? a player that would be on rooney sort of wages?

Believable12 Unbelievable2

It's because of "Rooney's sort of wages" that we are on the verge of losing two of the best youth players around at the moment. Both could still sign, but SAF is so stubborn and I cannot see him caving in.

Sydney!

Agree11 Disagree7

Am I reading this right? Why on earth are we moaning at Rooney being paid what he is, when he is a world class player, on similar wages to all other world class players?!!?

If we want players of his calibre we must pay them accordingly, simple.

the Red Devil

Agree16 Disagree1

Both Pogba and Morrison not playing in the reserves, are they?
Could mean one of two things.
either SAF (& the club) are fed up and they are gone, or they will be involved tomorrow.
We have basically lost one CM in January (added Scholes, but lost Fletcher & Gibson)

Agree8 Disagree0

The thing that annoys me is Rooney's big conundrum last summer has just showed the younger ones some of the tricks they can be pulling. If he didn't get his way with SAF then i doubt the youths would have got it in their head that they can get more than what they're offered..

Ozwald

Agree5 Disagree3

Sydney,
If we cant afford "Rooney sort of wages" for atleast 3-4 players then I dont think we'll be able to compete anymore for top honours. Bayern, Barca, Real have so many stars, how are they able to afford their salaries?

Agree6 Disagree1

I agree Syd, if Rooney hadnt held the club to ransom perhaps Sneijder would have lowered his demands. Perhaps even Morrison and Pogba would have fell in line with our wage structure and accepted the deals.

RedDevil92

Agree2 Disagree7

On different subject heard wigan an united are in talks that Diouf is to go on loan til end of season as he had good spell at blackburn last season. i expect it to happen on mon tues next week

Agree3 Disagree0

I agree that Rooney should be on £200k a week wages, but because he went about it the way he did now other players are doing it. Perhaps the club should have give Rooney £200k a week without him having to pull stunts, but once a player has been given in to, they will all want higher wages.

Sydney!

Agree4 Disagree1

I don't believe we can't afford Pogba and Morrisons wages because of Rooneys (which by the way is the going rate for a top class footballer now whether we like it or not), particularly when we have cut te wage bill in the summer and this window. And are we saying Newastle can afford Morrisons wages and we can't?

Enigma

Agree3 Disagree2

I think this post has been massively read wrongly. Am I right in pointing this out Sydney! Its not because Rooney earns 200k so there isn't enough money left in the wage pot to go around, but younger players such as these 2 that are hyped up are believing the hype and feel they are owed something, so are playing the waiting game trying to squeeze more money out of the negotiations and Fergie isn't playing ball. He obviously is offering them what he feels a fair deal, they want more and because Rooney pulled his stunt they are more likely trying it on a bit.

Salford C

Agree4 Disagree0

Its not about affording the wages of these prima donas and that includes rooney! Its about a structure at the club! Do u see spurs throwing 200,000 a week at players? No there still doing well! Its not about havin to compete were expect to cos wer man utd! Doesnt mean we have to! How rooney played against newcastle i wudnt have paid him 20,000 a week! Players forget when they go thru bad form there wages do not diminsh! I say yea we should keep morrison n pogba but we cant be held to ransom! Fergies not stupid he will either use gibsons wages to give pogba and morrison a new contract or he will sell with a buy back clause if he feels he offers united anything! It doesnt help city saying whatever united offer we will tripple it! Ppl need to realise players greed is out of control! Look at nasri at city! Id rather have 11 players that want to play football and earn there rewards in life than have a team of 200,000 a weekers that cudnt careless! I admit im suprised i thought by the summer fergie wud be saying we dont need to buy a midfielder we have pogba morrison clev n carrick
But not to be! Let him move lets be honest whose gone on to greater success after united?

Agree4 Disagree2

'Enigma'

What an earth are you talking about? United can afford to pay five players Rooney type wages, it's not about affording the wages, it's about not abandoning our wage structure. Pogba and Morrison have both been offered £15k a week and rejected it, this is the first wage youth players who are breaking through will be offered. It's not that we cannot afford to pay Pogba and Morrison what they want, it's about principles and sticking to the wage structure. Personally I would double it and offer them two £30k a week, that is a very good offer, but United may be stubborn here.

Sydney!

Agree4 Disagree4

Syd
maybe we should be looking at the wage structure then , we should be paying players pogba etc based on there talent not there age
jred

Agree3 Disagree0

Who has gone on to greater success
Stam
Van Nistlerooy
Beckham
Forlan
they all achieved greater success after leaving

Puzzled

Agree1 Disagree11

Sydney, I know we can afford to pay them more, the point I was trying to make, which I accept could have been clearer is why won't we? If we were buying an 18 year old Pogba or Morrison from another club we would probably offer more if we rated them that highly. I just think it is a little short sighted to lose a player for peanuts even if they will become an average premier league player. I'm sure a fee for selling them of >£10m even if they only become average would outweigh paying a little more in wages to secure new contract. Now if it is really all down to behaviour that's a different thing, just my view.

Enigma

Agree0 Disagree0

Puzzled, stop making a t*t of yourself so often it's getting embarrassing...Beckham and Nistlerooy were both ledge at United and have failed to live up to those dizzying hights - in terms of personal form and success -elsewhere

Update on Morrison, he has been denied a new contract as his demands are unrealistic, this is straight from SAF's mouth. SAF has also not ruled him out staying at the club, talks will continue.

Sydney!

Believable11 Unbelievable0

I really dont understand this kid. He has the world at his feet with United.

RedDevil92

Agree12 Disagree0

Maybe he just lacks respect? or doesn't understand the value of respect. when the biggest club in the world offer you a contract you'd probably bite their hand off, but he probably thinks it's better to turn us down just so he can tell his mates he turned manchester united down..

Agree10 Disagree0

Apparently SAF has said his agent has been trying to get him a new club.
Agents are the poison of footballers, Lee Sharpe said in his book the Captain Marvell, Bryan Robson sorted out his new contract!
I wonder what Roy Keane would make of this kid if he was still at the club?!

Apparently direct quotes coming from director of Basle is that mufc and bayern have made amazing offers for Xherdan Shaquiri! Really hope this is true

Believable6 Unbelievable1

I like his team mate Granit Xhaka, Shakiri and Xkaka would be two good signings, but wouldn't pay more than £25m for the pair. Perhaps could get both for around £20m.

Sydney!

Agree7 Disagree2

Well Syd apparently the price being quoted for Shaquiri is around 10 million! Which would be an absolute bargain. And I totally agree with you about Xhaka.

Agree4 Disagree0

Syd,

You seem to give an honest opinion so my question is this, do you think Shakiri from what you have seen can do a job in CM or would he come in as a LM?
I posted a little while ago the I had read SAF had earmarked him as Scholesy's long term replacement and people said he's a LM and more likely to succeed Giggsy? I know that's where he has played against us but I reckon he has the attributes to play in the CM and wonder whether he is out LM for Basle to accomadate other players? (Like Scholesy did for England to accomadate Lampard and Gerrard!)

Ports

Agree0 Disagree0

Scholes' replacement has been at the club for 3 years. His name is Anderson and he has all the credentials of being a world class player.

Agree15 Disagree15

Shaqiri can play anywhere across midfield and as a striker. Hell, he has even played at left back for Basel and played well. He will be a excellent signing for any team. Xhaka has got a bit of a fuse on him, so i would avoid him, irregardless of his skill.

Agree6 Disagree0

Anderson and Nani were bought as long-term replacements for Scholes and Giggs, but Scholes and Giggs have kept going and Anderson hasn't lived up to expectation. Nani was better on the right. Giggs since has been replaced again by Young. I expect Shaqiri is to replace Anderson so I guess he could be a replacement for Scholes yes. Buy making a signing of this nature it would allow us to have more cash for a striker, so could be a good move.

Sydney!

Agree0 Disagree4

If ferguson had intentions of ridding anderson from the manchester united squad he wouldn't have given him a new contract late last season.

The man is a machine. If he starts bagging a few goals then people are going to get behind him.

Believable9 Unbelievable0

United are making room this January lads, that's Kiko and Gibson gone, soon to follow will be Diouf and Kuszczak. I think we can expect one or two new faces. I did say I expected a young striker to sign, fingers crossed.

United Till I Die 1987

Agree0 Disagree2

Why whould we sign a striker? Young or old.
Surely that's the one department that we have plenty of options? Rooney, Berbs, Chicharito, Welbeck, Owen. As well as our Nani and Young who have both played centrally.
If we sign another striker it will be at the expense of what our team actually NEEDS.
Defensive cover and more ability in MF is clearly where we're lacking, not up front.

Am I the only person who thinks we should buy Ganso as he is available right now? I mean yea, 25M or 30M, but he is soo young..! And full of talents as well.. Why not? Eds/ Syd, wt do you think?

IBleedBlue

Believable10 Unbelievable0

£30m is a lot of cash for a Brazilian, his wages would also be as high as £60k-£80k a week. There is an element of risk when purchasing Brazilians to play in the EPL. £45m-£50m over five years is one hell of a risk. If we had £30m to spend I would like to see it go on one of Modric, Goetze or Oezil. Or buy Moussa Sissoko and bring in a top striker.

Sydney!

Agree7 Disagree2

I think he would rather go to Spain or Italy. And I also think that investing 30mil on a south american is a bit of a gamble as the England usually doesnt suit them.
But a great talent none the less.

Talksh1ts South American Corespondent was on yesterday with Hawksbee and Jacobs talking about Ganso and he said that he didn't feel Ganso would be ready for a move to Europe yet. Now, if United went in for him, once again we would have to be prepared for a transitional period for him so would United fans be prepared for that? I think he could be a talent but reading into some fans posts on here, they are becoming less and less patient!

Just heard that KAKA is a possibility, apparently agent says player would be willing to talk to us about possible move.

I would love this to be true, talk of 20m Euros too, and Fergie says no value in the market. He speak Fluent english too which is a bonus. Is he past it? I believe not, cant see how former Ballon D'or winner can lose all that in a few years. Would be a great addition, but i think he is off to PSG.

plus Fergie dont see it as good value, like Silva, Torres, and all the others we let slip by

Maybe a year ago, but know I don't know, he has really bad knees. I hope he does find a new club though because on his day he was a world beater not far off Messi

Kaka is only available for 20 million.
i dont see the club bidding that much for him.

he has had talks with PSG but didnt want to go.

hi ed 007 i know ed 002 has talked of united's interest in Cesar Azpilicueta and of chelsea's. If chelski were to table a bid do you think united would go in for him? thanks tom17 {Ed007's Note - No.}

{Ed002's Note - Just to be clear, we really want to avoid any gossip about players from any clubs and stick to the rumours and good natured banter. If you want gossip we can recommend National Enquirer. WE appreciate your support in this matter.}

Hey Ed or Syd,
Either one of you guys know who is most likely to replace Evra at LB in the future?

YankSAW {Ed002's Note - I don't know, sorry. I suspect if Baines or someone of that ilk were available then there would be interest.}

Thanks for the input as always!

I believe Izaguirre & Alba will be on the shortlist. United have confirmed interest in Izaguirre, but I am not sure about Alba?

Just a thought though, if morrison is still hanging around with the wrong crowd etc. surely he would want to stay in manchester to be with them cos they're not goin to travel to newcastle or spain with him lol and he doesnt sound like a kid who uses much logic in his life, that only leaves one other option :( ....

I think Ravel wants a decent figure to snub City, but United have a wage structure and will possibly break it, but not by trebling it.

Newcastle have supposedly made an improved offer for Morrison if this is true then the kid is obviously up for sale if he wasnt they would have been told originally that they were wasting their time they obviously believe they can get him.

Have to say again like I said earlier United as a club have to take some of the blame for it getting to this.
