Happy and surprised Villa have left Gestede on the bench when we're weak in the air at the back. Come on United!

Well if that's the kind of performance we can expect all season like the one against villa , it's going to be a long long season. What the hell is van gaal playing at.Rooney dreadful , Depay 30 million ?, I know a win is a win , but come on , when we play one of the bigger teams we will get trounced , 3 shots on target in two games is not a title winning way to play.
Seems van gaal has ripped out our way of playing , to defensive IMO , the sooner van gaal retires the better for me , our identity has gone and it shows in the players and the way we now play.
Sorry to rant and rave and it's early in the season , but we had this last season . I was hoping this year would be different , but my god something needs to happen quickly . Striker and electric paced winger needed , or I'm afraid we will win nothing again .

We need a new young fast paced striker! Rooney was shocking!

Rock,

You are questioning the price tag of a 21 year old after 2 games in the league? I actually thought he did ok, always looking to attack and go at the defence which is different to a lot of the other players.

Agree6 Disagree1

14 Aug 2015 23:45:05
Rock

You act like you know a lot about football so you should know the first 6 games mean nothing. It's how teams are playing in October that counts. There's a lot of new players settling in and, let's be honest. Rooney didn't hold anything long enough for anything to develop. At this stage, a win's a win.

Agree5 Disagree2

{Ed007's Note - So if Utd lost their first 6 games and were 15/18 points off of Chelsea you's be on here saying relax, the first 6 games mean nothing? Behave yourself!}

14 Aug 2015 23:32:39
We are all aware that you like them young, Ronnie. You could've just said fast paced.

GDS2 for once we agree something lol too early to be getting on memphis back got to play him on the wing tho.I think I would be looking at playing Wilson or chicarito in next game rooney cldnt even do the basics tonight he was awful.I would take the captaincy off him too and give to BS when he's fit and starting

Nach,

We agree on the banter page about schweinsteiger as well, maybe this is the start of something beautiful?

louis van gaal is playing defensive that is the truth and i agree against the bigger teams we are going to struggle. aston villa and spurs both were able to keep hold of the ball without any pressure because we playing with two deep lying midfielders and i don't see the sense in that since we dominated teams last season with only the one holding midfielder. when schneiderlin signed i was under the impression that he was going to have a role where he joins in attack and help defend. because to me that's how schneiderlin is best he is made for that role but again how could i expect van gaal to do that. if the likes of man city them keep hold of the ball the way villa and spurs could we are going to be in deep trouble. yet again he saw if you play ander herrera in the cam role we will hold the ball better . as afor wayne idk what they going to do there because you can't be the striker and when richards and clark have the ball in their half then wayne is in our half lol.

No, I'm not saying that and you know that, so behave yourself too. I'm talking in performance terms. The first 6 and last 6 are always about the points you get, not how you perform. If performances in the first 6 were all that counted, how many times would Arsenal have won the league in the last ten years?

I was highly frustrated at times with the performance last night but a significant percentage of the problem was Rooney - if you're away from home and the ball bounces off your centre forward every time, you're going to look disjointed (especially when the team is set up to allow him to drop deep). I think Depay's decision making wasn't great and he was lazy in possession at times, and Mata doesn't have the pace to destroy the right flank. Januzaj did well first half, faded second.

The biggest issue at the moment is the midfielders getting used to each other so they can learn when to break forward - that's making us a little static in the middle at the moment. That is something that comes with time together. Equally, I think Herrerra would bring it more naturally in there but he showed three times last night why LVG has an issue with him, losing possession cheaply on the edge of the Villa box. But I'd still have him in there alongside 2 of the other 3.

The other question is - how attacking can we be with our current centre back pairing and goalkeeper? Are we setting up to keep opponents in front of them because we're worried about pace in behind?

I'm not certain LVG will get us where we want to be but a) good coaches make sure teams work defensively before attacking (SAF included) and b) pressing the panic button game 2 isn't getting anybody anywhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - So you didn't say:

'You act like you know a lot about football so you should know the first 6 games mean nothing. It's how teams are playing in October that counts.'

No mention of performances or anything else.}

15 Aug 2015 12:43:56
Monkeyballs, at this point, ok I'd prefer a 'younger' striker, but anyone after the way Rooney played last night!

Edds, is Dom Beradi classed as a winger or striker or is it he's quite effective doing both?

Also, please excuse me for this, but would Charlie Austin be worth a punt? At 25/26 he was banging them in for qpr last season, kinda like a fox in the box!

Stick with Hernandez, got pace? We just seem to have good possession with no end product? Striker needed Louis!

Also Edds, are reports we are interested in Lavezzi of PSG true?

I disagree with GDS2.
I thought Depay was terrible, and Rooney worse.
But delighted with points

It's was an average performance as was Spurs. But 6 points is 6 points. Some of the comments her read as though we got beat both games.

Does anyone else feel that sky having a sports information service and a betting service running hand in hand a conflict of interest? They seem to be able to influence betting markets with their ever reliable "sky sources" I find it unusual that this has never been questioned.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - oh it has dean, for a long time mate..

14 Aug 2015 10:05:04
I have questioned it for the last 3 summers but people still insist on thinking they are reliable, would you trust Coral news or Ladbrokes sports news? It is exactly the same.

'Sky sources say xxxxx is going to sign for yyyyy, why not have a bet on it with skybet?'

The story about Otamendi from 'sky sources' yesterday came straight from the Manchester Evening News.

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - the reason we had the words 'skybet' being filtered out of posts is that for a long time they would send in hundreds of posts a day across our football sites with completely made up rumours, trying to get free advertising. If they are that unscrupulous they would do that to a site they know they could easily afford to pay for advertising on, then it is difficult to see how anyone could trust them. Remember the Babel-copter on deadline day a few years ago? He told me himself it was utter bollox on the day as they were saying it! Every deadline day afterwards he would do joke tweets about it, taking the mick out of them for the lies they spread. It is sad really, as news services should be just that, services.}

Wouldn't be surprised if their "expert" panel are "persuaded" to give certain predictions or plug certain transfer gossip. It's all corrupt.

Skysports is a shambles at the moment. The fact that they use Football manager stats to compare and discuss players at length is embarrassing

14 Aug 2015 13:14:50
Cheers ed I had no idea they were that unscrupulous.

I'm just surprised the powers that be (whoever that is for this sort of thing) have not got involved I've been noticing for ages but it was only the otamendi news that made me really take notice.

I wouldn't be surprised if the manipulation of news and odds is not just a money making scheme, but also a practice to mitigate the bookies losses as a result of friends of ITK's being very lucky in the player transfers markets.

So the politics of the De Gea deal are coming through now.
I remember a Spanish based journo saying that Ramos would leave Real, but They will have to make it look like he wanted out, that he refused to play etc etc. That way the fans start to turn on him and "its best if he leaves".
Basically I believe this is what is happeneing now, LVG saying De Gea has asked not to play. I can understand this, but because there are reports of De Gea being "baffled" by this claim, it looks as though MUFC are trying to make it less painful for fans.
We apparently stood firm when we thought we could get a player in return, but now that maybe off the cards, we seem to be lining it up to let him leave because he has asked to.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

14 Aug 2015 09:37:38
It can't really be less painful, all the fans have known he was leaving for months.
I think its Real pay the fee or he will be sat on the bench next season.
I don't think he will be #1 if he stays, may even drop to #3.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 09:41:47
Sambastin, I think we are going to keep him her for the rest of the season just to teach him a lesson. He will play after the window closes but the first team spot may no longer be his and he will leave in summer. I think LVG's comments are there to show why he is not picking him but also to remind fans that the club is too big to be bullied. Talking about his training attitude is probably just his way of trying to give DDG a kick up the bum and to kick on.

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 09:58:25
that might be true yes but hey what the hell if he wants to leave he must leave i'm sure there's more then enough players that can replace him. at da moment its a win win for madrid . get him now good. get him next season for free even better. so for me if we can get atleast wot we payed for him. goodbye david

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 10:20:28
I just think we played a bad hand in our game of poker with Real Madrid. If we had just said £25m and he is yours, instead we priced DDG out of the move in a "we won't be bullied" but it looks like it might backfire on us now.
I have totally accepted that he will leave, that isn't the issue. I think I get more wound up that Real Madrid ALWAYS get their own way. Always!

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 10:22:32
I've long said that he should be made an example of. It's well worth losing the potential £25m in dropping him for a season. It's a complete farce. I felt the same with Rooney.
NO ONE SHOULD HOLD MANCHESTER UNITED TO RANSOM, AND NO PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB!!.
It an utter shambles, and Real in particular have took us for a ride long enough. I'm loving it that we are standing up for ourselves against Real. You don't see teams like Bayern getting bullied by these boys do you. We are Manchester United, the most decorated team in the premiership, where the most financial interest is, and always will be. Our league is the hardest in world football, don't forget that.
If we don't get WHAT WE WANT AS A CLUB, then it's quite simple. And it's a great sign (Albeit a small gesture) from the Glazers and the board that we are a powerhouse and this scenario will no longer be tolerated.

If possible I'd keep DDG and buy Lloris/Cillesen anyway!!! Now that would send a message!!! (Obviously why I am not on the board 😉😂)

Playing devil's advocate guys - we would happily have Bale or whoever if we could.

Real are obviously playing hard ball. Ok, let them, but we must play hard ball back. Do we want DDG to go? I guess most people's answer would be a resounding no as he was our best player last year, no doubt in my mind.

Maybe the answer is to make everyone stay until the end of their contracts, and then see if you can sign them. This constant transfer of players is only making money for them and their agents, and to make it worse, it's our money their getting (tickets/shirt sales etc. etc.)It makes me more convinced that money is spoiling the game. But then again, without these transfers, would we have anything to talk/argue/speculate about??

Just my tuppence worth.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 11:01:27
The fact is DDG bottled it for a PSG goal worried about injury when he could have cleaned everyone out including Jones, don't play him and bide your time

Agree4 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 14:20:53
If it's true and we have the money to get a new first choice goalkeeper then buy one and let De Gea rot in the reserves? Sounds harsh, but to a certain extent, he's brought this all on himself and Real have made things worse by not coming up with the money! Let him go for free next season!

Agree2 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 14:25:33
DDG is a money grabbing little runt who in conjunction with RM are tring to line their own pockets , hw will sign a pre contract with RM in Jan and I don't want any player staying at man united that is committed to another club. Sell him last minute but sell him or his negatiity will spread through the squad as quick as one of the Beasts posts.
When vidic as our captain signed for Inter he should have been sent on gardening leave the next day. I have said it before you are either red or you're dead imo. He is worse than di maria and is causing twice as much damage to morale. I hope the Madrid fans turn on him after a few mistakes then he will realise he was in the right place all along. At least here he doesn't have to listen to his girlfriends shite singing

Agree1 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 15:58:28
I agree with a lot of posts saying to keep him, i wouldn't give in for peanuts just to get him out because of morale.
He will go to the reserves if he stays and won't play at the Euros as he won't have had any match practice.
If LVG wanted to he could help ruin De Gea at this point, he maybe would not return to the form with a year on the sidelines, and Real might see that and go elsewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2015 19:41:46
I'm pretty sure the money men will make the final decision on DDG rather than LVG. I personally take the stories with a pinch of salt, he wants to move but is being used as a pawn in financial negotiations between the two clubs so of course his head isn't right. If he was a "money grabbing so and so" (beyond any normal footballer!), surely he'd have signed a new deal with us a year or two ago?

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2015 22:14:13
I'm pretty sure they got a fortune from selling us Di Maria and he was rubbish, so sod em, let's overfeed De Gea and get him fat and let him sweat it off in Madrid, it's time we stop feeling inferior and just rolling over when they want our best players, Real Madrid need knocking off their perch!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed030's Note - I agree, and don't think it's fair how Madrid are able to use underhanded tricks to help sign a player. However with De Gea being Spanish and the possibility of moving home to a club like Madrid I can definitely see the appeal for him. }
