Evening ED'S, Do you know by any chance if Herrera had offers from any other big clubs prior to signing for us? I suppose what i'm asking is, if he had an outstanding couple of seasons for us for example and became one of the top players in europe is he likely to want a move to the likes of Barca or Real, I know you can't read his mind or predict where he will be in 2/3 years but it would be nice to know that any of these clubs have tried to sign or approach to sign him in the past :) cheers.

{Ed002's Note - No, they had no interest in him - probably due to the price being asked.}

Are United still interested in Konoplyanka?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - IF you mean West Ham United, then yes.}

Thanks ed :)

I thought there was some interest from Barca last summer?

I may be remembering incorrectly, but I thought that was what started the whole fiasco over fabregas last year?

Eds, can you update us on the latest with vidal? Thanks

Believable2 Unbelievable17

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed - Manchester United will need to persuade Juventus to sell and Juventus are looking for another club to make an offer.}

Ed, do you think a deal could be done?

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think there has to be every possibility a deal can be done for Vidal. The Pogba situation is moving on and Juventus are regrouping to finalise the players they are looking to sign. However, Juve has, through a third party, approached another club about a bid. And it is not out of the question that Real Madrid might look again. So, every possibility but let's not make a damp spot just yet.}

Why are juventus so eager to sell to this unnamed team instead ed? We are of no immediate threat to them being in a different league and out of the champions league?

Thanks in advance

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They can use it to push up the price. If you own the last watermelon in the world, you can get a better price if there is more than one person interested in buying it. Interestingly, the same is true of aubergines (eggplants). Feel free to share this wisdom}

Ed can you say as to why Juventus are looking for another club to make an offer?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Try searching on eggplant.}

Just a guess but i'd wager we have Carvalho deal ready in case this falls through. Vidal is obviously a different kettle of darts to Carvalho but Willy C has potential. Fingers crossed something happens between now and the start of the tour.

Agree0 Disagree0

I could be very wrong, but I get the feeling MU are playing hardball. I think Vidal and his agent have agreed to move to MU and with there being no rival, MU are trying to drag the price down. If Juventus get other clubs interested then this could come back and bite us on the arse. I don't think we have dropped our interest, more like us playing hardball. MU will know that we are the only team interested currently, I imagine Vidal and agent want the MU move and MU probably know Juve need to sell him to fund other players. We also have Evra who they want. So a bit of hardball IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

The old supply and demand curve of a watermelon strikes again

Agree0 Disagree0

Never thought i'd say this syd but I agree with you :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed,

Is it common for teams to try and get other teams interested to start a bidding war.

Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Very common.}

Ed which is the team they approached Bayern?. Or who otherwise?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

15 Jul 2014 11:00:11
Ed002, there are some sources saying that Vidal wants MU move, his agent wants MU move, the only hold up is the fee. Is that where you believe it's at too? Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He wants to play elsewhere and Manchester United is the club giving him that chance right now. Juventus don't want to sell but if they must they want the best price.}

15 Jul 2014 11:00:24
Ed002 - do you think United would be better off pursuing other options, or is there a realistic chance that Juventus could be persuaded to sell?

Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It will be about money.}

15 Jul 2014 11:28:15
Ed002, is that so they can push the price up? Or are they looking to do a swap with that other club?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They are looking for the best price.}

Thanks Ed, those posts I posted were from yesterday so sorry you have had to repeat yourself.

You gave the figure €40m that Barcelona were looking to get for Sanchez. That is the same figure the media are reporting that Juve want for Vidal. I think we would pay that if that was the case. I believe they are asking for around €60m in reality. Can you give us a figure, no probs if you can't.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can't blame them for wanting top dollar for him, he only signed a new deal in December and he is a quality player. For me, anything around £40m plus Evra would make for great value.

Ed002 are the reports of Juve wanting £35m accurate? Seems a bit low to me, £35m plus Evra and Nani would seem more realistic to me and I would happily do that deal, personally. Oh and any ideas where the name 'Eggplant' came from? Always wondered, but never thought to ask anyone when I have been in the States, strange name for a disgusting vegetable.

EDs I was wondering what the latest with Jordy Clasie. I know there had been some rumors earlier about him joining. I was hoping you could shed some light on it.

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - Feyenoord's Clasie is a target for Porto and Swansea but whilst interest from Spurs has waned, Sunderland and Manchester United have shown an interest. Fiorentina's interest has gone.}

Thanks for the info

Hi eds,
A while ago there were rumours that we were trying to sign Marco Reus. If paper gossip is anything to go on, Reus snubbed a move to United in favour of Barcelona, Barcelona, in turn, preferred Luis Suarez. I was wondering if Reus is still available, and whether, by spurning our interest, the possibility of future talks has been affected?
Thanks

Believable5 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

Can't even see that far back, thanks so much

Would anyone else like to see the club make a move for young Calum Chambers of Southampton? I know Arsenal had been linked with him, but with them nearing a deal for Debuchy I presume he isn't a primary target any longer (correct me if I'm wrong there eds).

He is a talented right-back, very solid defensively and can only get better going forward. He has all the physical attributes of the modern full-back and would provide good competition for Rafael.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed004's Note - I think he will stay were he is this season. He will become a fantastic right back though}

Fair enough Ed004, cheers.

BTW are you aware of any more information re. the potential Vidal transfer? Rumours are gathering pace online that a move is "immiment" and it's getting me far too excited lol.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I haven't heard anything about the transfer. It seems manutd are being very subtle this year with regards to players they are chasing. Think it speaks volumes that we haven't heard from Juventus or Manutd recently about it tho}

Yeah I'd agreed Ed004.

Just out of curiosity, one word, will Vidal be a Manchester United player come the end of this transfer window in your opinion?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - Maybe}

Well played Ed004, well played!

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed004's Note - I'm feeling pretty optimistic ATM. Change that answer to 'Yes'}

edds,

is it true we going after pepe of RM? apparently, they want to replace him with inigo martinez? to be honest, i'd rather have martinez and think we should go for him? thoughts? (oh, I don't rate pepe either by the way and he's 31!)

cheers!

oh, the costa rican guy, centre back - pretty good too!

Believable1 Unbelievable9

{Ed004's Note - I doubt we are after pepe}

Just heard that Dortmund have rejected an approach from united for hummels. However LVG is to hold talks with kagawa regarding his future and if the player wants to leave we will offer Dortmund kagawa+cash for hummels. Don't know how accurate this is but just sharing what I've heard.

Believable18 Unbelievable12

14 Jul 2014 16:55:13
I think it's nonsense, purely based on the fact that LVG rates Kagawa highly.

Not that it's anything to go by but also there seems to be a lot of Kagawa in promotional kit pictures etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could very well be nonsense but if it meant losing kagawa for hummels I would let it happen. I rate kagawa but we desperately need a top CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozwald
I would think Kagawa being prominent in the marketing is to appeal to the huge Asian following we have

According to a report. Angel Di Maria has aid NO thanks to PSG and wants a move to England.

Anyone know I this is true or not

Believable6 Unbelievable27

There are plenty of conflicting reports mate. One problem for us is the amount RM are asking for. It's a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Any idea what the figure is?

12 months ago I was a very unhappy utd fan. We had a manager I didn't rate and got slapped in the face by every player we looked at. I can't help but feel that maybe with Hererra and Shaw already signed that the problem may not have been Woodward but the players we were interested in also didn't rate Moyes. Roll on to now and we have a new manager who will only have seen his stock rise with a respectable world cup placing and some either genius or lucky decisions which either way show he has balls big enough to fill old Trafford. Add to this the bumper new deal with adidas and it looking more likely on a daily basis that Vidal could be joining us which would for me and I'm sure many others would be the "marquee" signing we were all pining for last summer
Not to mention the other players we need to fill the gap in defence and attack I for one can not wait for the new season to begin. Even if we don't win the league next season I will still be happy as the intent and ambition in getting us back to the top again looks to be happening.

You could well be right BeachBum - personally I hoped Moyes would work out (as I would with any incumbent in the Utd managers chair) and felt he maybe could have, however the history books will say not and that's all that matters. We do seem to be on a hugely promising upward curve this summer and that without doubt is, in part, due to LVG's arrival.

Remember though all things are relative - we really did only have one way to go after last summer + season and that was up. As long as we don't get carried away with the inevitable downs that will occur along the way I feel we could tear up a few trees this year (new signings permitting). Fingers crossed.

Agree0 Disagree0

I admire LVG just as much as the next guy but not so sure I'm comfortable with the thought of his balls invading Old Trafford.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've said it many times, depending who the manager is it will determine who plays for you.
You can go for a manager who has managed at the highest level and won many things, while also developing youth and players of all ages.
Or can can for a manager who's never won, no big team ever wanted him, no development skills, no winning mentality or tactics like the person we had

Agree0 Disagree0

WOW huge deal with Adidas. a minimum amount of 75m a season working out at 750m over 10 years with some huge bonuses avalible in this deal such as wining the Champions league, league title and fa cup. also heard that a big big bonus if they win a treble like in 99.
adidas surposidly also help with backing towards players who are sponsered by adidas.

small rumour that adidas have naming rights to a few ventures that utd are looking at. maybe football schools abroad as part of the deal

Believable13 Unbelievable2

Well if we were not going to spend this, summer to get back in the CL then we will now. Addidas will be expecting CL football for the global exposure especially as the expect to earn upto 1.5bn from shirt sales!

Agree0 Disagree0

I also believe the deal doesn't include all the licensing of our branded products that the last deal with NIKE did, so room for more income to come.

Apparently Utd are working very very hard to secure the following:

One defensive midfielder (3 targets lined up)

A right back (2 targets)

An experienced top quality centre back (2 targets)

An experienced back up centre half (2 targets)

A pacy forward (2 targets)

This should put to bed the complaints that we never have more than Plan A when it comes to signing players.

The information is from a good source who says that the club are aware of the improvements they need to make to the squad but have been hampered by several things,

Firstly we can match the wages of our rivals but not the fact that we are not in the Champions league.

Secondly the decline of last season has shaken confidence in several players who might otherwise have come to us. They don't want to risk coming to a club in transition when they see in the EPL how strong particularly Arsenal, City and Chelsea already are.

Thirdly and whether we like it or not we have to admit that to a foreign player London is a more attractive place to live. And that Barcelona or Madrid trumps London and Manchester.

Fourth that in a normal year the transfer merry go round depends often upon a club selling to us being able to line up in advance a replacement which is not always straightforward. In a world cup year it is much much harder. Considering the large number of top players on show in the World Cup very few have made confirmed transfers yet

Lastly the Board realise that other clubs know we are desperate to reinforce our squad and will charge us top dollar. That said the Board will spend BIG bucks for the right players but exactly because we overpaid in desperation for Fellaini they really want to avoid a similar deal.

Bottom line is that we just have to be patient and realistic and accept that we might not get a dream team in this transfer window but improvements will be made.

Believable36 Unbelievable12

Thanks for the info, any names for the different positions?

Agree0 Disagree0

Doesn't make sense
Why would we want a right back when we have 5 players that can play there if needed?
Why go for an experienced back up defender if we have 3 already there?
Why go for a pacey forward when we have 2 that are already quick?
