I remember earlier in the season one of the benfica chiefs saying the club would need to raise 50 million euros in sales. To my knowledge they haven't sold anyone so I thinks it's a good time to buy a player off them as they will be desperate to balance the books.

So... Henriquez will get game time, I am wondering whether we bought him as a striker now as I have seen him play wide right and he is very good there. You tell me how he warrants game time ahead of Welbeck and Hernandez no matter Rooney and RVP. He is an outstanding prospect and I for one am glad he is getting a shot.

Evening guys,
Just thought I'd let you know I have received some inside info that Manchester Utd have made an formal enquiry to Benfica over the availbilty of Alex Witsel. Don't know any more than that and if they would sell....

Just thinking about it. As has been widely discussed on here, Baines is quoted at around 12 million. What i don't understand is that that's around the same amount of money city paid for Rodwell...a very young up and coming player... The Everton hierarchy are ridiculous

Everton aren't ridiculous but logical, Rodwell has barely progressed from 3 years ago-when we were looking to buy him. Funnily enough he goes off the boil, barely plays and man City sign him to rot on the bench. More fool them. Everton have much more influential players in midfield and knowing Moyes will make some aweosme signings with the fee collected.

You have to go in with a low bid first, which obviously gets rejected, then Dembele may start saying he wants the move so a compromise would be the best solution....

How accurate are the allegid £40 million figure from Bolingbrooke? If they are accurate then we have spent £40.5 million (including Henriquez). We have recouped £5.7 million which could add up to around £11-12 million after the sale of Berbatov. Ideally we could of signed Alba for left back, however he is no longer an option, so where do we go from here? A list of potential left backs:
- Bryan Oveido £6 million
- Emilio Izaguirre £6-8 million
- Leighton Baines £15 million
- Aly Cissokho £7 million
- Davide Santon £5 million
- Alvaro Perreira £10 million
- Naxcho Monreal £5 million
- Guilherme Siquiera £6 million
They are the best (potentiall) available left backs out there. Although I doubt Baines is available, and he is probably out of price range now. My personal choice is Guilherme Siquiera, he excelled in Spain and by all accounts out shone Alba - he even got into the La Liga best XI ahead of Alba. He's 26 so is a good, mature age and is very quick. Personally, Siquiera is my choice.

Ferguson to a private reporter that is MUTV. "We are looking at 1 more player if they are availabe"
To the world press/Newspapers. "No more signings"
To me this suggests that Sir Alex is hiding a deal from the world media as he wants to keep it quiet to keep the likes of City,Chelsea,PSG away from our deals. Personally think it's Witsel but reports suggesting they have made a real interest know for a Spanish player. The only one I can think of us being available at a reasonable price for us.

Just looking at RVP interview, it is so exciting to have a Player of his calibre here. Very intelligent football with great skill and leadership quality.
And he said he choose 20 because he wants man utd to get the 20th Premier league title this year!! Obviously the guy is raring to go. He just needs to keep fit, hopefully with the rotation going around. It can be achieved. If he just stay fit, I am sure he can have great impact as a team, as a striker and a mentor to our young strikers who can learn a lot from him!

Just because I am a bit of a Pedant, I feel the need to point out that Shinji Kagawa is not and has never been the German Footballer of the Year.
The current incumbent of that particular title is the player Dortmund signed to replace him, Marco Reus.
Personally I think Kagawa will have more of an impact on the league than many give him credit for. He's a wonderful footballer, incisive direct and quick.
I'd have him over Hazard any day. {Ed007's Note - We've been through this before. It seems there are different versions of POTY, just like England, and Kagawa did win one of them.}
Believable7

Kagawa was declared player of the year by a uk based site bundesligafootball ( which is not the official bundesliga site) under the headline " Shinji Kagawa will claim the inaugural Bundesliga Football Player of the Year award after winning a majority of the votes as selected by our readers and listeners. "
Bundesliga player of the year according to their official site was Robert Lewandowski. Bundesliga Young player of the year was Marco Reus. Please do check and confirm, before you make an argument to suggest otherwise.

Something I have been pondering about... RVP has recently turned 29 and we paid (according to reports, correct me if i'm wrong) £24million for him, with a wage of £225k a week. As i said correct me if i'm wrong please.
But last season we where apparently interested in a then 27 nearly 28 year old Wesley Sneijder for about £25/£30million and roughly the same wages... but we apparently missed out on him due to these wage demands and the price tag for a player of his age.
This has got me thinking, where we ever in for him? and if so why didn't we pay this money for him? In my opinion he is/was a more needed signing than RVP.
Any thoughts?

RVP has premier league experience and should be in instant hit, the fee is actually nowhere near as much as Inter were demanding for Sneijder and he was holding the club to ransom even though he has no experience in the premier league and could have taken time to adapt.

Would love Witsel, but find it unlikely we will spend 25m or there abouts. 12m for Dembale seems more probable and he is terribly underrated.
Still think our midfield looks weak. We've a potent strike force, a crowd of top defenders and a string of wingers, but unless Petrucci or Tunnicliffe really excede there rate of development, our midfield looks old, average and injury prone. Witsel would really help make us a total unit. Of course RVP and Wayne can play midfield, but think we'll play 4-2-3-1. It's the two deeper midfielder that are the worry, the 3 more forward looking midfielders will be Wayne, Kagawa and Nani/Valencia, with Welbeck, Henriquez, Young etc fitting in neatly. With Henriquez arriving, I think Hernandez could raise us 10m or so towards Witsel.

Has fergie actually said this, if so anybody know who it could be. i would have thought one of baines or witsel.
In my opinion i would of thought we needed to look at two positions, LB & CM but from what fergie seems to have said we are only looking at one position and if im correct he has previously stated LB is a position he needs to look at.

Really?? SAF is not interested in Sneider! His name was pasted around last summer as a replacement for Scholes but since his form last season was patchy to say the least, he's been ruled out (plus the wage demands). It's going to be Witsel or Javi Martinez if SAF can hijack the deal last minute.

Can any of the Ed's shed some light on the CM situation, I believe we are in for another CM player, a few stories going about but not sure whether the 'real' focus is on Witsel / De Marcos / Strootman?
I personally hope for either Witsel or Strootman to complete our midfield only because Martinez seems to be out of our reach………. I am absolutely delighted with our attacking options, we have acquired the German and English league players of the year and also added Nick Powell who I personally think will be a gem!!
I would be more than happy with our current squad if Fletcher was fit but sadly I think he's got another season out (As good as it was to see him back on Tuesday night) which means Carrick will remain in that role……. I am not going to slate the lad as he does have good passing ability but he is slow and doesn't command his area as well as others!
Anyway, heres to another season and I firmly believe whatever happens Fergie will grab us that 20th.....

Maybe i'm thinking to much in to it but I think it will be a midfielder and I personally think its Axel Witsel. Man Utd have made an enquiry and the Ed's seem to think that the interest is high and maybe increasing. Not tiote mate that was the their forward. Name escapes me. Anyway no way we would pay that kind of money for him. Might as well add another 8 million and you can get some of the best midfielders out there

Rumours that Witsel is on his way to united not sure about the fee but its a very strong source. He will be a great addition to the team and the final piece. That unless Sir Alax buys a left back before transfer season closes.

On the midfield issue, what's everyone's opinion on Cleverley? I am one of the people who rate him highly and think he's got great potential, whereas others think he will never be the answer and will never be good enough. I just wanted to see what others thought of him as the deep lying playmaker? If it now looks like Rooney and RVP will play together up top. I've been impressed by Cleverley immensely playing in that deeper role at the Olympics, in pre-season and in the recent England friendly (albeit further forward). Before anyone starts I still think we need to sign a CM, I just wondering if perhaps Fergie is trying to mould him into this role eventually. He has great attributes for it, good energy, puts himself about, always trying to make himself available and always looking to be an outlet for the defence.
Thoughts welcome.

Class player with immense potential. Just needs an injury-free season.

I used to think Cleverly was a decent central midfielder that did the simple things well, would become a reliable player but not a special one. Have to say mroe I have seen of him more I am impressed. He does all the above but it is his awareness and speed of thought which is changing my view. Looks like he can play deep lying or further up field from his England debut. Could be a great team player, I am excited and hopeful him and Anderson can stay injury free and get a run together over the season as this is a partner ship that could be quite special, we saw glimpses of it the start of last season before the injuries came to both

Completely agree with Sydney! I also think it may be worth looking at him as more of a box-2-box midfielder due to is energy and attitude, whilst still retaining a lot of creative influence as well

Loads of potential, if he stays fit he will be a top CM imo. Played well for Wigan, great for us before his injury, great for team GB and good for England the other night. Don't see why that can't continue! I'd love to see him long term partnered with a player like Witsel, so he's left free to get on the ball, pickout teamates and set the tempo

If he was 19 or 20 I'd think he's be great. However at 23 he is average to good. If he was sold he'd be in the 10-15m area. Syd you over-rate him to the nth degree, could you in all sincerity see a top CL team coming in for him, if he was made available?

Negative people on here spreading rumours that van Persie deal off due to not agreeing terms is RUBBISH. There's no way fergie will let this deal slip over personal terms .. Also no way van Persie can go back to arsenal .. Expect deal to be confirmed tonorrow ..

More than likely Arsenal or Liverpool fans. Isn't there a press conference tomorrow? fully expect the announcement will be our new signings

Plus Man United and their website would not start doing interviews about rvp if they know he hasnt agreed personal terms, as he could disagree, and our entire club would be humiliated

I would imagine personal terms were sorted with RVP's agent before the deal was sorted with Arsenal.
