I don't work for utd and don't know anybody who works there apart from a few stewards.

Been at OT tonight to the club shop for a utd tie of all things! as i was walking out i was walking past the executive sweet following the north stand. In front of me out came John Alexander (club secretary) talking to someone, and all i heard was "well Martin said they are trying to push the price up for him, we can go another 3 for him but that's it"

Who's he talking about? after reading Sky sports website, maybe Sanchez, or am I putting two and two together and getting 5!

@Udinese have quoted Chelsea ‚Ǩ30m (£25m) So I can see him being priced out of a move to everyone. Sanchez is worth 15-20m but if I was willing to spend 25m then it would be on Pastore or Jovetic.

I believe that you're telling the truth and it seems nice of Gill. However, I don't think Gill would say that a transfer would take place this Jan, even if it were to happen. We know Fergie likes to keep his cards close to his chest. That's not to say we will definitely get someone this window though.

If it's true about a striker could it be podolski? May not be the most prolific, but could also be used as a left winger for the time being? And with us being linked to adler maybe SAF will bring in a fellow German?

A regular reader of this site I have never posted before as never had real info but yesterday an amazing coincidence happened. On sunday 16th i was just off high street kensington at around 11.30 am. As i was loading stuff out of the car. who do i see walking past but David Gill himself. I said to him please make sure United do well to which he replied "well we have a massive game today", we laughed and agreed it would be tough but should get a result. Just as he began walking away i asked "any signings in jan? he smiled and said unfortunately NOT. I sighed with disappointment and he looked me the eye and said "i assure you there will be new faces in the summer" he seemed really genuine. He carried on walking and i quickly shouted what about Qatar holdings takeover, he turned smiled and shrugged his shoulders and continued to walk down the road - make of that what you will but i felt it suggested it might be on the cards.
Just one more thing a lot of people may dislike him but he actually seemed really friendly and could be bothered to sacrifice 30secs of his time to respond to a united fan in the street.
Anyway to sum up - there is NO ONE coming in Jan FACT!

If I was reading this I wouldn't believe it either but for those of you that care about United I PROMISE it's true! Just watch no one will sign in jan & signings are gonna happen in the summer. His reaction the Qatar question signalled that he thought I'm not telling this guy anything but conspicuously didn't deny it.
Ed I'd love to know if you believe my chance meeting with Gill.

After hearing of Darren Bent about to join villa, this is a scenario I've thought out in my head, tell me what you think? Villa have no money so they must be selling there prized asset Ashley Young (im thinking to Liverpool), which gives them the money for Darren Bent (i also think Stephen Ireland will be part of this deal as there is no way Bent is worth 18m rising to 24m), this leaves Sunderland short a striker so we offer Michael Owen plus cash to Sunderland for Jordan Henderson, this then leaves us short a striker so KARIM BENZEMA to us as Real Madrid will then have money to buy Llorente! I know it sounds a bit far fetched but transfers are like houses being sold in a way, theres normally always some sort of chain in the market. This then gives us a Creative CM and a striker that will prove himself to be one of the worlds best one day!

@Liverpool are not trying to buy Young, they are trying to buy Downing much to Ed's disappointment. Also Villa have 16m left over from the Milner sale. Lets also not forget that Randy Learner is wealthier than the Glazers.

I don't have any inside knowledge, but regarding the striker signing (rumour), possibilities with Neymar, Saurez (as mentioned by ed.), Aguero, Jovetic (can play left also), Neymar, Lukaku, Chrisantus, Lulinha, Llorente.

Outside chances but unlikely because of age/value/difficulty, Forlan, Benzema (as mentioned by ed.), Torres, Fabiano, Rossi, Quagliarella, Vucinic, Bojan.

(sorry for any poor spellings)

If there is a striker signed (and I don't think there will be) it will probably be someone none of us has probably mentioned.

Hopefully it's a AM/F/W like Hamsik, Hazard, Sanchez (yawn), Jovetic as mentioned before.

Just had a thought on the striker, how about miroslav klose of bayern muchen, he is a finisher, would be cheapish. how old is he 32-33. one or two year deal or a loan deal.

Again rumours and speculation but on skysports.com it says Real Madrid are in for Tevez(With city just after signing Dzeko, and they have Balotelli, Jo, Adebayor), So they could do without. Could this pave the way for United to sign Benzema? ?

I am very sceptical.

The striker is going to be a complete surprise, In the last two years we have been linked with every top striker in the world and some dodgy ones too.

I personally can't see us in for somebody, but it's evident we do need a Van Nistlerroy (May be on his way back to Madrid) type player, someone who will guarentee us 25-30 + goals a season. Hernandez has the ability and potential but Fergie is blooding him far too slow in my book. (He should get a godd run of 5-6 games).

Personally I would have like us to go for Fabiano or Eto'o (I know he was part of the Ibra waste ivich deal), a couple of years ago as they are natural goal scorers.

Im stumped at who the striker could be, a month or so ago I would have said Benzema, now as the ED pointed out not so likely, maybe it's a sneaky Loan signing like Henrik Larsson.

I would personally not mind if we spent £16 mill on Suarez, I was impressed with him in the world cup.

@I thought about it last night and if my mate is right, could it be Lakuku? He may only be 18 but he already has the physical strength to cope with the Premiership. United can offer him and his younger brother what they want just like Ajax could. The only doubt in all of this is he doesn't want to move til the summer, I am sure Fergie wants a striker now, so I think it may not be Lakuku.

Suarez, Mori, Nilmar, Rossi or Benzema? Benzema will only become available if Jose brings in a replacement first.

Sydney! {ed's note - Madrid would need to sign two strikers to let him go, at the moment Benzema is their only fit real striker.}

@I have just heard from a mate of mine, he is not a United supporter and he does not know anyone in OT, however he does know bits and pieces about other clubs, well he has just told me that United are in for one player this month and its a striker. I hope to god he is wrong but he says its common knowledge amongst his peers that United are eying up another striker.

I don't know who and I don't know when, but if my mate is right then United are looking for ANOTHER striker. I have been racking my brain trying to think of who we could buy, I cannot think of anyone.

Any ideas Ed?

We have our four this season, Rooney, Berbatov, Hernandez & Owen.

Owen will be sold in the summer and Welbeck will be back in to fill his place so we will be back to four again.

Whats all this talk about another striker?
Sorry I missed out on the rumours today so I surely missed something? But all so far, the above was going tol be the United front four for this season and next?

Sydney! {ed's note - Macheda definitely looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford, unsurprisingly with his attitude, Richardson was sold for less. I think Welbeck will get his chance next season, but I really can't see Owen staying, he barely gets a game. Oh I did think of one other person that was linked in the summer - Rossi. You do have a buy back clause.}

@Oh yes I forgot about him, not sure he would come back though, he is trying to get a new five year deal at Villareal. Rogelio Funes Mori perhaps? Or Nilmar? If we sign a striker I kind of hope its Suarez, he's probably the best from this list.
